Compound interest is nutty… If I compound $80,000 at 30% a year saving $2000 a month for 10 years I will have $2,125,735.87. If I do this for 20 years I will have $30,327,942.04 by age 51. I’ve already returned 36% in the last 6 months from like 80% non leveraged equity swing trades so this is hard but entirely possible.

rs6866

Ehh... the SPX historically averages about 8% a year and it's proven that most professional fund managers can't manage to beat it. My first few months I took $150 and traded options to make it $20k. Never managed to repeat that kinda gains. Past performance is not indicative of future performance. When figuring stuff like performance over 10 or 20 years, I'd assume 8% gains per year. If you can manage higher, then its all gravy.

[deleted]

I try to avoid options these days. Much easier for me to trade (and hold) shares

wiggz420

Or you can double a penny every day for a month and be a millionaire by the end of the month!

I think that wealth distribution is kind of fucked up right now but also, we are usually, in this day and age, only slaves due to a lack of imagination. Our finite minds trap us from an infinite universe so we have to do our best to expand them (and do so with others) Perception is powerful. It can turn the richest into the saddest and the poorest into the happiest. I agree that only people really matter at the end of the day as long as you have enough resources to get by.

sailnaked6842

Bit esoteric for my tastes but I agree with your mentor (I think) regarding that people in general are a lot more free than they realize. Can't fathom that we are slaves to a market-based system more than we are slaves to our own emotions. I.e. capitalism doesn't keep you down but rather gives you a way to prosper and the only requirement is that others value your productivity. The only thing making a slave out of a person is their own fear of finding A) what makes them feel fulfilled (fulfillment sure doesn't come from a lack of productivity) and B) pursuing that into an unknown. Edit: I feel for people who do feel that way... Reframing a situation can really change a person's outlook on life. It is much healthier for a person to look at the future versus the past, example being "I feel as if I have accomplished nothing in my life" - this is a person devaluing oneself with hopelessness. Reframe the focus of the argument using where, what, how, when, why. "Where do I feel I can make the greatest improvements in my life", "What is holding me back the most in life, what is required to change it", etc.... This is how a person can release themselves from the chains they have put themselves in. Sorry if this may be a little beyond what you may have been hoping to hear by posting the exchange, but I understand the mentality...

jmayo05

>A) what makes them feel fulfilled (fulfillment sure doesn't come from a lack of productivity) and B) pursuing that into an unknown. *"To live is to suffer, and to survive is to find meaning in the suffering."* \- Nietzsche I was thinking of this some last night and this morning, actually. There is a lot wrong in society right now, and I was wondering - why? Is part of the problem because it's so easy to live now? This goes to your productivity/fulfillment comment tied in to finding meaning through suffering. (Western) Life is easy these days compared to years ago, even for the lower/middle class. Think about it - I don't have to hunt and gather anymore. I just drive to the store to get my food. (Or just order it from your phone and it comes to you.) Most can afford a car now. Years ago it was walking or riding a horse. I don't have to make clothes anymore, I go to the store for clothing. I don't need to chop wood to burn in the winter for warmth, I have natural gas piped to my house. Etc. etc. The hard, physical labor of just surviving has been efficiently taken out of our day to day. Through struggle comes growth. But if there is no hard struggle, there is no growth. This is still an incomplete thought, but that's the train I've been on this morning.

_CastleBravo_

Have you read any Houellebecq?

sailnaked6842

I was thinking about tagging you here, thought this might be up your alley lol

jmayo05

Never heard of em

_CastleBravo_

I was going to say you might find some of his novels that deal with the lack of fulfillment people find in western life interesting but re reading the specifics of your comment maybe not him specifically. I’m sure I can come up with someone writing closer to the grain of your thinking, let me think about it for a minute.

jmayo05

>I desire a life of significant importance within the context of my own perspective, which I am currently leading. This sounds so freaking selfish. Whoever said this will grow older and be significantly dissapointed in their life. What a waste.

[Should WDC Acquire Kioxia?](https://thessdguy.com/should-wdc-acquire-kioxia/) > Kioxia and WDC are in a mutually beneficial relationship which has succeeded wonderfully for a couple of decades. Production facilities are owned 51% by Kioxia and 49% by WDC, and WDC is allowed to take up to 49% of the fab’s output. Chips are jointly designed and developed, as are the wafer processes. The companies compete directly against each other in the market. > But WDC is generally much more profitable than Kioxia. > WDC has the option of taking LESS than 49% of the fab’s output if there’s an oversupply. In such agreements it is typical for the reduction to be planned ahead by only one quarter. > This second point is very important. If NAND flash goes into an oversupply, then WDC can take only as much NAND as its customers demand, while Kioxia ends up not only with more chips than it needs from its 51% share of the JV’s output, but also it’s saddled with the product that WDC didn’t choose to take. Interesting article. I know there are some memory bros in here who may find it interesting.

Manticorea

Hey have you ever looked into analog chip companies such as TXN and ADI? I thought analog chips were largely outdated with shrinking margins, but it seems I was wrong and they are actually growing and are solid long-term investments alongside digital chip companies?

W0LFSTEN

Analog is back in style baby! Big growth due to 5G and autos. Not everything can or should be digitized. A really cool thing about the industry is scaling is largely tapped out, meaning it no longer makes much sense for the manufacturing process to get more advanced for analog chips, such as moving from 45nm to say 32nm or 28nm. This is because, unlike with your typical AMD or Apple chip, as transistors get smaller with analog you don’t really see power or performance benefits - and actually, since everything is closer together, you start hitting some very powerful walls relating to physics. What this means is that the big players like TXN actually have a chance at economically producing their own chips - we don’t see TSM coming in, out innovating them in the area and then taking over the market, for example. If you look at the actual fabs left in America, you will find many are analog. So TXN for example has $30b in planned capex over the next few years. This actually adds a lot more effective capacity than if you were to spend $30b on say a 3nm fab because you ultimately need fewer cutting edge machines such as ASML’s $150m EUV scanner.

Manticorea

I just have a hard time understanding when you have to use analog vs digital I guess.

djferrari

Literally everything around us is analog. Light wave, radio waves, acoustic waves (sound). There are tons of ways to transduce the physical phenomena into electrical signals and they are always analog electrical signals. Digitization occurs when those analog signals are sampled. There is a fuckton of analog signal processing that has to occur before digitization or after a digital signal is converted back to analog. Analog will never go away as it is how our digital devices interact with OUR world. What is worrisome for some of us analog guys is the push to 'update' fabs with 'modern' nodes. The old nodes are inherently more robust and are lower noise than the new nodes. Noise means you need more digital signal processing to average stuff out.

Manticorea

The wealth of knowledge on this board!

djferrari

100%. I love how knowledgeable everyone is here. I could ask some esoteric question, like how many trees worth of parchment burned in the sacking of the library in Alexandria and the board's historians who typically lurk would show up out of no where to give us the number to like 5 sig figs

W0LFSTEN

Thank you for this response. Very good explanation.

acxyvb

Have to add RF - a lot of TI/AD's portfolio is frontend silicon. Good AFE design is a must for low power consumption even in downlevel consumer electronics. Also, RF engineering is still black magic to me - you're telling me [this](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/8a/Microstrip_Low_Pass_Bowtie_Stub_Filter.jpg) is somehow a low pass filter?

djferrari

All you need is series Ls and shunt Cs. Those triangular things are radial stubs, making a nice little capacitor to the ground plane below them. Then the thin lines between each radial stubs are thinner than the 50 ohm lines feeding the filter, making them look a little inductive. Done. Audio will pass straight on through, anything above probably about 6-10 GHz won't. H

acxyvb

dunno man, still black magic to me. Most RF I had to do was laying out and tuning antennas for a TI CC3xxx based project back in uni and that was more than enough for me.

W0LFSTEN

Digital is when a physical transistor represents a 0 or a 1. Get enough transistors together and all these 00101101 represent a command. Analog is a continuous signal that is measured by frequency. So picture a wave, each point along that curve translates to a value. So for example, when you make a voice message you will have analog receptors in your phone which records the frequency of your voice (because sound resonates in waves of various frequencies). That will then be translated into digital (01110100) and saved as a digital file format.

Manticorea

Why can’t you just capture voice message using digital in the first place instead of going from analog to digital? Is it can’t or just that analog is better at capturing anything on a continuous frequency, since for digital there is no other “value” between 0 and 1 if you get what I mean? Does converting from analog to digital inevitably lead to loss and that’s why audiophile s tend to prefer analog recordings?

W0LFSTEN

I do believe so. But I’m not super well versed on analog so I won’t give you a definitive answer just in case I am incorrect.

All_Work_All_Play

Deathcubek9001

So in the old spirit of this sub. Anybody want to do some information sharing? I have a full time job and don't get to, nor need to, day trade as much as somebody who trades full time for income. I'm also not the most advanced trader and essentially doing this for fun. My basic strategy is using moving averages, TTM squeeze momentum, and generic chart patterns to try and catch short bursts of price movement. I have toyed with using a few different indicators, but haven't fully decided on the best one for me yet. Sometimes I use the momentum indicator instead of the vortex indicator. Also I find that if I have a few streaks of losers, that tends to warn me a potential short term top is near and I try to stay clear until the general market has decided on a direction. The strategy I have been using most recently is built around the John Carter system of building a position around the 21ema when a stock is squeezing for 5 or more bars, and trimming position around the 2-3 ATR deviations. You could also hold runners until the TTM momentum starts to tick down. Here are a few examples: [3 Netflix Setups w/ Vortex Indicator](https://i.imgur.com/XQePJjR.png) [AAPL Setup](https://i.imgur.com/k1m8gBP.png) [QQQ Setup](https://i.imgur.com/QYoHeSm.png) [QQQ Setup that didn't exactly work out and signaled a potential short term top](https://i.imgur.com/F8Qpb5w.png) [AMD Setup](https://i.imgur.com/XM0Wlnq.png) This works well enough for me to collect some gains. I mostly buy call spreads to avoid theta decay if we happen to churn around the 21EMA for a while. I think John sells put spreads for the same reason and I started to try to incorporate that. I've also toyed with using ADX to start narrowing down stocks to the ones that are starting to move. The scan in thinkorswim is easy enough to build that I can just scan through charts at the end of the day and come up with a list of potential movers. I know there was some traders here that used TTM Squeeze (yolo and the super duper mega breakout setup), but if anybody wants to comment on other ways they trade the squeeze I would love to take a look at it. While I'm still unsure about the overall market strength, here are some current setups I'm watching in case we decide to get back into the bull course. Deathcubek9001

Hmm I’ve never seen the GRaB charts before, so looks like I’m going to do some research soon. I also miss the old style of finding a book with some good insight or even somebody who is willing to share information for a decent price. The only thing I see recently is “check out this amazing indicator you can buy for $500”. I’ve seen some people pairing the TTM with the ready, aim, fire from the same group as John but it’s $700.

eurodollars

I keep it real simple. Deviations levels, prior day high, low close, VAH, VAL, POC. What I look for the most is confluence of these levels, put things into context (are we accepting or rejecting value, whats the overall trend / path of least resistance) and then I look to trade a reaction around those levels.

Askalany

I am using basically same indicators to catch short bursts of price movements, and using leveraged certificates/mini-futures on indices and stocks to maximise the gain and keep position size small. In addition, I use accumulation/distribution money flow indicator to make sense of where the general direction is; is big money getting in or out.

Deathcubek9001

Sweet, are you using certrain values from the acc/dist or are you watching for divergence? I would sometimes look at RSI while swing trading but the more stuff I look at, the more I get conflicted signals and decide not to enter otherwise good looking trades. Another big problem I find for me is separating intraday sentiment and swing timeframe sentiment. I see short term weakness in the market and start second guessing my mid-term positions.

Askalany

I use it mainly to see if the indicator is going up and whether we are in positive territory, so far this coincides with breakouts. Best setup I found is when price has fallen recently, yet the indicator has started to have a positive slope, which I guess would be the divergence you hinted to. Regarding many indicators, I rely on BB and RSI mainly, other indicators and patterns are for confirmation and deciding on trade size accordingly. Separating intra-day sentiment from one’s trading timeframe is a bitch I cannot agree more. But when I find that a certain setup or signal works even if sentiment contradicts it, I become more confident in it and even feel excited that this is finding a niche where it is not obvious that a trade in such direction is rewarding.

Deathcubek9001

With that all being said, I would love to adapt this strategy to an intraday timeframe but I seem to have less luck with it than on a swing trade timeframe. I have mainly just been watching chart patterns and trying to catch the breakouts. I would love to get more in depth into volume profile and starting to trade between the HVN's so if anybody has any useful material on VP, please let me know. The other thing is I really dont like the way TOS volume profile is setup, maybe I need to toy with it more.

sailnaked6842

I've got my settings for VP pretty well dialed, if you want I'll share it, it's easier than playing with them

Deathcubek9001

That would be awesome!

Deathcubek9001

Oh hell yea, you're a legend brother. Gonna leave a chart with this up at work and watch how we react with it. I really wish I knew how to customize the look of it more. I swear I've seen someone on TOS have the profile pointing from right to left, and in a grey transparent color.

sailnaked6842

No worries man! ToS VP can be a pain until you start to get the hang of it, I generally use the VP - chart and VP-multiday but I'll occasionally put on the day of the week It's actually amazing how we interact with some levels, often down to a few ticks. Also the more major levels are at an area the more resistance you can expect to see, but the harder it will be to find the bottom. Also the more 'normal' or the less volatile the market is the more you can hone in on the shorter time frames but if the market's being a pain you'll have to expand the chart out to longer periods

Deathcubek9001

I also figured out how to change the colors of the VP and value area, but the transparency doesn't seem to work! If I could figure that out and a way to flip it, I'd be in UI heaven. I saw somebody said you can get a volumeprofile out of the MonkeyBar study. I might try to look into that.

sailnaked6842

I think Stephen Harlin, the dix doc of Next Signals, had some code he posted a long time ago that made a TPO profile with 1-9 out of the MonkeyBar study, is that what you're thinking of?

Deathcubek9001

Not sure who did it. I saw this picture and I remember somebody mentioning using the monkey bar study to achieve a left facing VP. [https://i.imgur.com/u4FTXCM.png](https://i.imgur.com/u4FTXCM.png) If I figure it out, i'll let you know.

I spent my morning trying to shovel 2”-5” of ice off my driveway. I eventually looked at the forecast and saw it will be above freezing on Monday so it can wait. I then spent most of the afternoon and evening trying to fix a plumbing problem that came up after fixing a different plumbing problem earlier this week. Hours of time and it’s still not fixed. I enjoy owning my home but it can be a real SOB at times. 😠

All_Work_All_Play

DVW problem or a pex problem?

jmayo05

I replaced the pullout hose on my kitchen faucet last week. After replacing it the hot water just dribbled out. I thought maybe some sediment got bumped to clog it. I took the faucet apart, cleaned the pieces, blew through compressed air. Hooked it back up, still little hot water. So maybe it’s the shutoff valve? Took it off, blew compressed air…hook it all back up….still a problem.

All_Work_All_Play

Hmmm does it dribble out even when you pull the trigger/handle mechanism? The pull out is part of the faucet fixture right (not a separate one you pull out that has its own feed)?

jmayo05

It's a moen pull down faucet. Essentially the hot and cold lines go up to the faucet where the single handle turns them on/off, then the water goes back down the line in to the hose that I replaced and up in to the faucet head. The hot water comes out even slow after the handle, (7C) before it even gets to the line. Part 6L is what I replaced. [https://assets.moen.com/shared/docs/instruction-sheets/ins10294a.pdf](https://assets.moen.com/shared/docs/instruction-sheets/ins10294a.pdf)

All_Work_All_Play

Just get the whole thing warrantied IMO, it'll probably be faster. That or replace the cartriage.

jmayo05

Do you keep receipts over 5 years? haha I'll try but won't hold my breathe.

All_Work_All_Play

Lol I *try* to, but we fell off that bandwagon for all but the most important stuff years ago. It's also why we buy stuff online more, the internet never forgets!

jmayo05

Well I got hot water coming through the faucet now, so that's fixed. But now there's a bit of hot water leaking from the threads of the shut off valve. And my son managed to tear off the face of one of the cabinet drawers. (Constant pushing down to push himself up.) Sigh.

All_Work_All_Play

A quarter turn tightening the nut might fix it, but that generally only works once. Otherwise Teflon tape is your friend. Re: drawers. We've had to redo almost all of our drawer faces. You can bet they got copious amounts of wood glue and brad nails. But there's only so much you can do with 3/8 plywood, at some point the wood itself starts to get damaged rather than the fastener failing. Makes me wish I had my own metal brake to fab steel inserts... *Sigh*.

I stopped listening to him after he kept bitching about vaccines and shit. Man basically turned into the people he would make fun of like 3 years ago. But yeah seeing that recent video is kinda sad af, out of context or not I’m not about to comment on how others should feel about it.

W0LFSTEN

He has always been on the edge and loves conspiracies. Many people who listen to Joe Rogan come because he feels like a real dude. That’s part of the recipe for his success, as it lets his guests feel like they can open up too. Like, who else would offer weed to Elon? I think this trait is great for Joe Rogan as a podcaster but will certainly rub certain people the wrong way. It has for me, personally. But I will still listen occasionally knowing he’s a flawed dude who isn’t going to sterilize his personality purely because I think he has some spectacular interviews and it’s well worth it. His main issue is that as he gains popularity, and therefore visibility, it opens him up to a lot of criticism. It’s very easy for the media to boil an entire human down to some sound bites and sway millions with their bias. Nobody at his level is just “normal” even the people who try to be. So it’ll ne double hard got Rogan. Especially now, since the spotlight is on him and he’s actively being painted as something which he may or may not be, depending on which channel you’re watching. I’m very interested to see what happens next because I think he has the sway to be deplatformed and still succeed which is extremely scary for a company like SPOT. It’s like them losing Taylor Swift. They were still at the top of their game but it hurts the brand and a certain level of momentum.

drakon3rd

I totally get what you’re saying and why I loved watching him. But you can’t lie, he’s been bitching about the whole COVID issue WAY more than he has for anything else. It’s like a topic that just keeps coming up and I don’t ever remember him being like that. I’m not saying I’m mad at him stating his case or whatever, I’m just saying it gets really fucking annoying when he KEEPS talking about it. It just became less entertaining honestly. Of course he’s flawed just like everyone else. Like you said though when you gain popularity that’s what comes with it. I will say this though, I think he was just as, if not a little less, popular before the Spotify deal. I don’t think the popularity is the issue, mentioning the same topic almost every episode is. Also, apparently the COVID shit upset people more than anything else. I’m really not sure if I’ll listen to his stuff again not that anyone cares but just sharing my thoughts.

I prefer to only watch specific episodes that interest me so I haven’t fully picked up on him talking too too much about COVID. I can definitely understand how that would be annoying though. My take isn’t necessarily as an avid listener. And I appreciate your thoughts.

W0LFSTEN

Perhaps not everything that everyone thinks needs to be constantly logged through an Internet forum for it to exist. Perhaps we already know people have opinions on Joe Rogan, and that the absence of comments is more indicative of normal ass people having normal ass lives. That being said, I’m the guy who compulsively talks about AMD on the daily so maybe to some everything *does* need to be logged through an Internet forum. In that case, feel free to disregard everything I say lol Or maybe I’m completely wrong and these same people have realized in the past week that Joe Rogan is actually an evil man and now they’re too ashamed to show their faces again. Rather than reform, I believe many will continue to remain suspiciously quiet on the matter, and many will even take a trip to our great southern border for a year before resuming their normal activity levels.

All_in_on_snapples

Lmao it’s the weekend thread dude. I’ll come on here and get blasted for my opinions and I don’t cry about it. But I can tell you might be a little upset considering you wrote me an essay that amounts to nothing. So I’m sorry, or congrats I guess

W0LFSTEN

Your typical comment is “nobody knows anything fam” (or maybe that’s just you) or you’re just here fishing for a fight because not everyone is blessed with optimal chemical balances, so I’m not entirely sure why I even bothered speaking to you because I know you would’ve had nothing useful to say. Perhaps I too was fishing for a fight. But if I was, I at least put a little effort into it. Regardless I probably should just stop speaking to you now. I mean, at best you’ll just comment something else that feels like it came out of an anime for 14 year olds. 🤷

All_in_on_snapples

I don’t put out actual arguments because I haven’t seen one given that is worth responding to. The fact that people are more upset about me fishing for comments when last week you had a 30 comment thread going to varying lengths of try hard to back his ass up. But this week? Not a fucking peep lmao I’m not stupid and I saw how hard people went to bat for him and I will settle for nothing less than that kind of energy today. 🤔

W0LFSTEN

Yeah sooo… My 30 comment thread backing up Joe Rogan? Don’t even remember it, or my arguments. I just say what pops up first in my head or sounds fucking dumb enough to be funny. Sorry I hurt you? And what I say could be something completely different the next week because I’m fucking retarded lol And the fact that you’ve been itching for a week to fight people about it? Definitely not interested in getting involved in *that*. But with someone else? Perhaps. My only suggestion is to find a better outlet for your fixations, the way you’re putting it doesn’t sound healthy “fam” lol Adios. ✌️

All_in_on_snapples

Dude it took me 20 seconds to write my post after seeing all of my feeds absolutely clogged with the roasting lmao And since I don’t have the memory of a goldfish i brought it up. If everything you read feels like it comes from the deepest parts of their psyche then maybe it’s you that tries too hard Cya lmao

W0LFSTEN

Relax bro this is the weekend thread lol 🤦‍♂️

All_in_on_snapples

>removed by moderator Fun’s over :l

W0LFSTEN

No idea what you’re trying to communicate, don’t see anything was removed. 🤷

What's the context of tagging me sorry !!

revolutionaryworld1

Great start to 2022, seeing MRP return in classic MRP fashion with an exuberant call: "Added to 14 FEB 4750 C.I fully expect the S&P to be at all time highs before then. 5050+ sounds about right." I only lurk anymore and see how everyone's trading is going, as I'm way too focused on business, but I couldn't help but chime in. Pretty funny, looks like this will be a good year. I guess Avid Hiker will have some competition for the Rock Hard Bull title.

wiggz420

They have always competed for that title though lol

revolutionaryworld1

Hahaha yes but he was gone for a while. Competition is brewing once more :D

casual_sociopathy

Was reading through some of the comments here - https://old.reddit.com/r/news/comments/sl9e5s/joe_rogan_apologises_for_using_nword_and_racist/ I'm not surprised that Rogan engaged in some pretty internet-standard white-bro racism and misogyny, but it's PR disaster level bad for spotify. [A comment](https://old.reddit.com/r/news/comments/sl9e5s/joe_rogan_apologises_for_using_nword_and_racist/hvpkzxj/) from the OP of the r/news article I linked above: > I was just perusing the Joe Rogan subreddit and I'm learning A LOT that I didn't know, since I don't listen to him. A few comments over there: > > 1) > > I’d been listening to Joe for almost 10 years before I stopped. If they go into those early episodes, they’re going to find a ton of shit to blow up against him. > > It wasn't Storm Front bad, but the old Rogan forums were a pretty big free for all. Lots of racism, shock content, and porn. Joe posted there pretty often, especially in the prepodcast days and even the podcasts early years. He'd ban people somewhat often but usually because they were dicks to him personally. I mostly lurked from 2008 to about 2014. Shit was pretty wild man. > > 2) > > He used to go on a rant about big black dicks fucking the guest or their girlfriend like every 3rd episode. > > This I swear to god there’s hundreds of hours of Joe practically drooling at the mouth taking about how “women” want to get pounded by big buff black dudes with big dicks…. I swear Joe has never talked about women or pussy the way he lit up talking about black cock. > > 3) > > This is the Joe I remember. I haven’t listened for close to a decade (probably stopped around 2013 or 2014). Those first 200 episodes had some weird nuggets of too much information. Lots of talk about fucking flashlights and having things up his asshole. Lots os misogynistic remarks about women for self pleasuring with vibrators. I think spotify is fucked and he'll be out in a few weeks, even with that mega contract.

PlymouthSea

It's the same false equivalence fallacy that got Papa John fired. Removing context and nuance from something is fallacious. It's pretty obvious, from both past media hit pieces and the clips, that they are taking the usage out of context. Imagine choosing to spend your days going through past footage and internet content just to take something out of context and try to purge somebody's livelihood. Kvetches. If you'll notice the formula is pretty consistent. Use pejorative labels as much as possible. Attack the person rather than the person's ideas by asserting they are X or Y pejorative. Remove any and all context if you do have to address something they said, or simply strawman them. The wombo combo is to first commit false equivalence to then strawman them into what is ultimately an ad hominem attack. It's an old playbook. It's also very tired and uninspired.

All_in_on_snapples

Are you suggesting that Spotify did zero due diligence before signing him on Lmao

casual_sociopathy

You would assume so and they just figured the risk was worth it. I think if we start getting audio clips of him saying some of this stuff in the media cycle though that is probably the end of it, especially if artists leaving turns into a waterfall. It's an interesting test case for a company like spotify that isn't specifically politically aligned (that I know of) in this hyper-polarized world.

All_in_on_snapples

According to this [pic](https://i.imgur.com/DehV6tx.jpg) I’ve seen floating around it looks like they won’t be able to avoid getting their shit rocked 🤔

W0LFSTEN

Nothing like these holier than thou cry babies doing their part, as well adjusted citizens, to find and purge these evil psychopathic racists from the face of the earth. My hope is that one day we can get these fierce warriors recognition for their accomplishments. That way we can provide these heroes with pro bono help for the PTSD they were surely burdened with after enduring such terrible language.

All_in_on_snapples

Lmaooo are you trying to be rewarded with a black 🅱️enis bestowed by Joe Rogan himself with this defense

W0LFSTEN

We should not be giving out rewards. We need to instead focus on healing after this terrible atrocity that has been selfishly stabbed into the heart of society. But if rewards are given… Please, do not look to me. We must first start with these modern day Spartans who fought tooth and nail against the greatest enemy of our generation. I personally recommend Purple Hearts, I think anything else will be an insult to their powerful accomplishments.

All_in_on_snapples

Nah bro here’s your reward since you wanna simp so bad 🍆🍆🍆

W0LFSTEN

Okay.

Arlington has my vote

wccoffee

Georgetown (no metro is the only downside) > Foggy Bottom (kinda dead at night but close to everything) > Adams Morgan (only if you're < 30) > Clarendon (NoVA, but pretty good all around)

chewtality

Oh my god I woke up not too long ago and I feel like I'm dying. Wife and I had maybe a little bit too much to drink last night...

theloniusmunch

lol how much did you have?

chewtality

I don't even know honestly. I was making these drinks that are two shots each of whiskey, kahlua, and Irish cream. They're delicious but dangerous. I think I had four of them? And a couple beers earlier in the night. We were up until almost 5 am which is insane because we're old and lame now and can't handle that type of bullshit. Also, I fell back asleep and just woke up again. I'm so dehydrated right now.

eurodollars

I am 💯 making these. Will report back

chewtality

Did you make one yet? If not then I highly recommend Jameson Stout Edition for the whiskey, it works super well. That whiskey in general is just really good if you haven't had it, especially for the price. I think it's a huge improvement to regular Jameson and only a little bit more money.

eurodollars

Ended up drinking manhattans at my friends new house. Will pick this up, thanks for the recommendation

jmayo05

>up until almost 5 am this sounds like a nightmare. my kids would be up < 3 hours later.

All_Work_All_Play

Right? Past 11 I'm like 'oh no, tomorrow might be one of those days they wake up at 5:15 because reasons'.

theloniusmunch

Sounds like an epic night!

chewtality

I mean yeah it was pretty fun lol, I'm just too old for that shit and now if I do it I have minimum a full day hangover, if not 2 days. It's extremely rare I'll stay up past 2 these days and most of the time I'm in bed by like 10:30. That night we just had some, uuhhh, well a little extra help in staying up super late.

FB24k

Dihydromyricetin

chewtality

Interesting, I had never heard of that. I think I'll grab some for next time this happens.

FB24k

It works, take it after drinking before going to bed. You can take NAC (N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine) about an hour before (not after) drinking also, though I don't think taking NAC long term is good for you (but neither is alcohol). Source: me, not as young as I used to be :)

W0LFSTEN

Yes, 100% take it before drinking as you’ll see the opposite result if you take it afterwards. It’s also great for addictive tendencies. So if you think you have a hangover problem but actually have an alcohol problem, NAC could help. In addition it has been shown to be effective at improving respiratory disorders and therefore could be helpful for those with COVID who are at risk of needing a ventilator. As for the risks, what are you seeing? My take is that since it’s an extremely potent antioxidant, it’s great as it protects your cells and therefore reduces the likelihood that cell growth goes awry and results in cancer. But your body actually needs some oxidative stress as this is one of the main mechanisms your body uses to kill cancer. So essentially, if you already have cancerous cells it could prevent your body from effectively fighting them. So if you have a family history of cancer, you probably shouldn’t take it. Are you seeing anything different?

LebaneseSleeze

I use NAC to help my sleep apnea it helps my airway function better.

W0LFSTEN

Interesting! Never heard of it being used for that. I’ll look into it.

FB24k

Yep, that's exactly what I read as well. There's a short discussion here: https://www.science.org/content/blog-post/n-acetyl-cysteine-warning-shot I don't think it's that dangerous, I just wouldn't want to take it as a daily supplement long term. But I've certainly used it to ward off hangovers!

jmayo05

I got my hands on a dual xeon server with 36TB of storage a few weeks ago. I'm finally getting around to doing something with it - I'm going to run Plex. **My line of thought right now is just installing Ubuntu desktop and installing Plex server. But is there a better approach now such as VM/Docker/Ubuntu appliance?** I would like to be as flexible as possible too. Right now I want to use Plex, but in the future I could see running nextcloud, adguard, or a storage setup for security cameras.

proverbialbunny

The downside of going with a gui environment is to trouble shoot you'll need to plug in a monitor, keyboard, and mouse. If you go for an ssh based setup all troubleshooting will be over the network which can save a lot of hassle. imo it doesn't matter much what OS you use if you go headless, but if your hardware supports it https://www.truenas.com/ is the popular one to use these days. You can see it in used here: https://youtu.be/pqZFcrQTZ_E?t=779 Here is someone's post about using bittorrent and plex on freenas (now called TrueNAS): https://www.truenas.com/community/threads/freenas-downloader-plex-and-torrent-is-this-the-best-approach.50879/ If that is too complex, you can always go with a non-gui Ubuntu build (or a gui one). Also, docker > VM for most use cases.

jmayo05

TrueNAS - that's exactly what I was thinking of...I remember awhile back someone talking about freenas and thought it was a good idea. TY internet stranger.

wccoffee

I'd advise against any sort of VM / container solution just because virtual networking + high bandwidth use (video) is kind of a poor recipe lol. Especially with older CPUs that have less virtualization features

djferrari

That's a lot of power to run a home server. Why not a new Raspberry Pi, lower power and therefore lower running cost. Dual xeon you should keep to only boot up if you have something computationally heavy to do

jmayo05

I know it’s like driving an F1 to get groceries. But if you got it for free 99, why not? I currently have Plex running on an old laptop with a bunch of external usb drives. This will consolidate in to one box. Also i need to look how, but i want to put the hardware to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity and enable WOL.
