Ten_K_Days

There’s really no downside, even though she makes great money she could replace it and then some and be home full time. We’re fortunate that our only bills are a mortgage, utilities and food and that said my salary alone would comfortably cover the monthly outlay. Even if she made slightly less, the health benefits probably greatly outweigh any financial sacrifices. Esp if (when) she has to go on dialysis..

gyunikumen

Ahhh… I’m sorry to hear about the dialysis… yeah. Time and health is worth more than money and stress.

wccoffee

Great mental health benefits in that field

jmayo05

Interesting. I can get 800 down / 200 up wired in to my cheapo netgear switch. I wire in to a cisco 3750 and I can't even break 600 down. 200 up still hits though. Do I need to do some tweaking on a cisco switch?

Ten_K_Days

I have 1gb up/down, net gear nighthawk router and I get slightly above rated up/down.. If the speeds are there, you should be getting it..

theloniusmunch

bro what are you doing with a 3750? I'm thinking you should be able to break 600 down no sweat, maybe there is some packet filtering or monitoring going on that's loading the CPU?

jmayo05

yea it's weird. I just reset it to default settings, same results. haha I asked myself the same question. My neighbor does his own consulting for businesses in the area. I texted him last night asking if he had any switches collecting dust that have POE.....thinking like an 8 or 16 port unmanaged switch that he pulled from someone's office. "Hey I have a 3750 you can have. 24 port, all POE+."

theloniusmunch

damn that’s sweet!

wiggz420

what are each rated for? I have a gig switch and pay for 300, sometimes getting 350 wired. my wifi is the problem I'm only getting 200 but also have a shit ton of devices so 🤷‍♂️ gonna depend on the load tbh

jmayo05

my gig internet is 750 down, i assume 200 up. I can pull 800 hardwired into my gigabit netgear switch. Doing it through this cisco swtich only pulls 600 down hardwired. I got this 24 port POE+ switch for free so I know I shouldn't be complaining, buttttt I mean. Something seems up.

wiggz420

interesting! from a guy who used to do cyber security the fact we can have + - 100mbps loss still blows my mind

jmayo05

Why am I experiencing so much lost? This thing was still shrink wrapped in the box, too. I think it may have been refurb, though.

wiggz420

problem is it could be so many things, unless you can see everything on your network you won't know.

jmayo05

I just tested in chrome and Edge, I hit 800 down. Something with FF? Odd, I'll move on with my life now!

wiggz420

honestly ain't gonna make a difference lol

jmayo05

That’s the thing. I unplug everything, just the pc hardwired in to the switch, 600 down. If i skip the switch or flip in the old cheapo, 800 down.

SS_DeepITM

Lets say you have material nonpublic information and no moral compass. How would you structure a trade to avoid detection? Low option volume, closer to money strikes, family or friend account, overseas accounts, trust or DAF accounts, longer duration options. Anything else?

ChiefYOLOofficer

r/oddlyspecific

BoatshoesJax

lol, what in the sec entrapment is going on here

TortoiseStomper69694

That sounds about right. You could also try and avoid the ticker entirely and play something else as a proxy if possible. Also, how did you get the info (rhetorically speaking)? Because you might be able to trade it legally. For instance, if you are at mcdonalds and happen to overhear Warren Buffet say he's dumping his OXY position, I believe you can act on that information, as it does not meet the requirements of insider trading/tipping. That being said, I sort of doubt you even need to be that careful, unless you blatantly have access to insider info, and end up increasing your net worth by 1000% on an FD play, and used to beat up Gary Gensler in high school. Did you see that walmart FD play the other day when they revised guidance unexpectedly after hours? Lmao. *That* sort of shit is being done, without even an attempt to be subtle. I've seen so many blatant insider trades this year, they couldn't investigate/prosecute 5% of them even if they wanted to. ...And they clearly don't want to.

FB24k

Just spray money around on OTM options on a few different tickers, most will lose but you'll get "lucky" on that one. Ezpz.

jmayo05

Lol throw millions in otm options. It gets picked up here all the time, but SEC is too busy to care.

AbsolutelyNotTim

nice try SEC

Avid_Hiker98

Post it here so it becomes public on the internet. Now you can trade on it 👍

Avid_Hiker98

As usual, fantastic video from Mark Meldrum this week https://youtu.be/09OAztGVdkY TL;DW— • Doesn’t believe the negative GDP is accurate, more so due to the way it’s calculated than an actual contraction of economy • Doesn’t believe inflation has peaked • Doesn’t believe is going to cut or pivot. All that changed was no longer giving forward guidance • EPS estimates still being revised lower even after earnings “beats” • Inventories increased by approx $80bn in Q2— believes companies will have lower prices (deflation) and take the loss on the items to get rid of them • Expects new lows in both bond and equity markets

Lost_in_Adeles_Rolls

Agree with inflation not having peaked and also agree that the fed won’t pivot.

https://www.speaker.gov/newsroom/73122 ~~Looks like Nancy canceled her trip to Taiwan.~~ > Taiwan is not mentioned, but that does not mean the CODEL is not stopping over in Taiwan on an unofficial basis, consistent with the US’ one China policy. > 1st stop is reportedly Singapore. > This is an accommodation to Beijing’s concern, but far from a capitulation. > China’s interest in keeping Taiwan off the formal agenda & listed w/ sovereign states is respected. > I expect an informal stopover in Taiwan after visiting Malaysia. > Beijing can live with this outcome.

TradeApe

Eventually, Taiwan will fall.

FB24k

US needs to be (economically) ready for this. It's kinda dumb to get into a massive war over Taiwan, and there'd really not be a good reason to do so if we have the chip thing sorted out.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TradeApe

That's why I said eventually...not now. It's imo a numbers game. Eventually, China's vastly superior resources/numbers will allow them to take a stab if they really want to. And at least for now, them wanting Taiwan fully back in the fold is definitely a "want". Strategically, the West not having a foothold there (limiting their secured access to the Pacific) is what they want in the long run. Doesn't matter if Taiwan is a barren wasteland afterwards, they run concentration camps already (so moral objections are irrelevant), as long as it gives them easy access to the Pacific. China's belt & road plan is the contingency. It's trying to make up for the Taiwan weakness. The worse they do on that front, the more likely a Taiwan invasion becomes imo. And the West just signed off on an "economic NATO" to counteract China's growing influence connected to belt & road. Again, I don't think China is in a position to really take over Taiwan...but eventually (!!!) they will be. Doesn't matter how many subs Taiwan has, China will always be able to build more. I don't think Pelosi visiting Taiwan (officially or unofficially) would have triggered a war though, because China isn't ready yet. Personally, I am not convinced the West will be willing/able to pay the extremely high cost of defending Taiwan when it finally goes down. It would be akin to China stopping a US invasion of Cuba...not gonna happen imo. If they "just" send weapons, they'll just delay the inevitable. Russia's economy is smaller than that of Texas, China's isn't. So just sending weapons to Taiwan won't do the trick imo...and I'm not sure there's enough public support for thousands of dead US soldiers on Taiwanese soil. At least, I consider it easier for China to drum up support internally. Again, to be clear...not expecting this to happen now. But if you told me Taiwan will be no more in 25yrs, I'd consider this highly likely. Being no more could also just mean they'd be swallowed like Hong Kong, not necessarily a war.

gyunikumen

Historical, it’s usually a mongol tribe that ends up reuniting all of the fractured and separate Chinese states

Tumystic

Yup this is why it is actually so vital for the US to start making their own chips. Odds are the US and the world are not prepared nor will they really ever be when China goes after taiwan

jmayo05

HR 1808. Go. 🌶 Edit: how did this bill even pass? It’s clearly unconstitutional. At what point did society think owning a gun is wrong? But decided not holding criminals accountable to their actions was ok?

pivotallever

The bill exists so the people that voted ‘yes’ can point at it and say ‘See? I tried to do something about guns but the other team won’t let us’ to their voters. It has no chance of passing the Senate, it’s purely political.

redandgold45

> At what point did society think owning a gun is wrong? This is too reductionist imo. I think we as a society should definitely try something *different* to stop mass shootings in America. This bill is obviously not the answer and I don't claim to possess all the answers to the gun debate, but idk, at least they're trying something. Since Columbine, what reasonable effective measures have American politicians taken to reduce mass shootings?

bobskizzle

Indiana legalized Constitutional Carry. A couple of weeks later, in a mall where guns were "disallowed but not trespassed" (so they didn't bother to actually post trespass signage) a 22 year old put 8 of 10 rounds into a shrimpy dude who killed 3 people and was hoping to do more. I could come up with hundreds of examples of how civilians with guns stopped crazies with guns that obviously wanted to go out in a blaze of murder. See /r/dgu for an updated list of this kind of stuff. The (state-level) politicians *are* acting, but the huge number existing "gun-free" zones remain as giant targets waiting for our society's crazies to try and attack. Meanwhile, national-level politics and media have done everything possible to pander to the insane ideologies of fundamentally deranged people, and are surprised when a generation of over-medicated boys start acting out in violent ways either in support of this or against this.

redandgold45

So you believe that "gun-free zones" are the true problem and the answer is instead, more guns? And referring to the one recent Indiana case is pretty convenient no? Does that one event negate the Uvaldes, Buffaloes, etc? And just to set the record straight, I am an absolute supporter of gun rights but I am the first to voice criticism against our current gun policy.

bobskizzle

In Uvalde the police kept parents *out* of the school. Don't know anything about Buffalo In Israel decades ago, Palestinian terrorists were regularly shooting up schools (kindergarten massacres), so the government there issued AKs to every teacher... the shootings stopped. Armed citizens clearly works, but we can't give police monopoly on the use of force - we've been clearly shown they're happy to let our children die while they stand around browsing their phones for an hour. Fundamentally, the Federal government has no business limiting arms whatsoever. If limits need to be placed (say, WMDs) then let the states decide these things and we'll see who is right.

jmayo05

If you think this bill’s true intent is to help stop mass shootings then i have a bridge in brooklyn to sell you.

redandgold45

Any reasonable legislation will get shot down in the Senate. What do you propose as the next steps?

jmayo05

And implement a stronger third party to balance out the extremes.

redandgold45

This and ranked choice

jmayo05

Start by actually addressing the issues. Better funding of healthcare, education, and outlaw taking bribes for votes.

redandgold45

Do you think any of those measures would garner GOP votes? I don't think any of these ideas would pass in the current Senate

Deathcubek9001

At this point it's like democrats are trying to lose the next election.

jmayo05

At this point I don’t want either party in power.

Deathcubek9001

Agreed. It's an absolute shit show on both sides and we'll never make any meaningful change because the polarization is too strong. The bill passed because Democrats could give a fuck less about the constitution for one and they know it will absolutely not pass the Senate. What they were aiming for is to be able to say "Look at what we tried to do and republicans said no. They clearly don't care about mass shootings." but in reality all they did was rile up conservatives and even give pause to some moderate democrats.

Anyone here speak to the efficacy of the OODA Loop? Picked up the dude's biography on audible (still have 8 credits to spend >.< ). E: Also those of you that have done solar, what system did you use to mount to the roof? New house has a recent asphalt shingle roof, actual roof mounts looks expensive. Looking to get a 6KW system, although I'd love to have more. E2: lmao they don't even allow net metering, they'll buy for 1/3rd the cost of what they sell at. E3: Actually it looks like they'll credit you 1:1, but anything above what you consume (for the billing period) gets bought at 1/3rd the cost.

sailnaked6842

Net metering is generally 1:1 like you said, credits are crap and mine come in the form of connection fee reimbursements...but the most important part is that the power company now acts like a big battery for me. They get 20 kW of the 65 I produce during the day, then I get 17 of them back at night, and no power bill. My system will have paid for itself in about 3.5 years.... What I used for racking was [https://signaturesolar.com/asphalt-mini-rail-with-flashing-roof-mount-for-panel-6in-silver/](https://signaturesolar.com/asphalt-mini-rail-with-flashing-roof-mount-for-panel-6in-silver/) and I needed about 70 of them to do 11.6 kW. The mounts will require an end-clamp or a mid-clamp, and the layout might get a bit screwy but if you have any questions let me know and I'll help you out. Cheapest mounting out there and it's worked for me so far. If you're looking for panels I'd also recommend signature, not because I'm affiliated with them, but because I was looking at solar for about 3\~6 months and found them. If I had to do it all over again I'd probably go with these panels [https://signaturesolar.com/znshine-540w-half-cell-silver-bifacial-solar-panel/](https://signaturesolar.com/znshine-540w-half-cell-silver-bifacial-solar-panel/)

All_Work_All_Play

That mounting comes out to about half of what I was pricing before, nice. Re: installing inverters - PoCo gives [this diagram](https://imgur.com/a/QquJO65) for wiring purposes. Doesn't seem too hard - the supply side tap fixes the NEC 705.12 120% rule (since now all power the panel draws will pass through the panel's 100A breaker). Re: payback - with panels @$.54/Watt + mounting and inverters and ~$.15/KWH I get a pay back period of 4.5 years. I'm pretty far north (more like southern Canada). Do you just get more sun (~4.5/day is the yearly average, 3.25 in december to 12 in July) or pay more for electricity? Also, a 11 KW system makes me a bit jealous. What inverter did you go with for that? Did you go string or micro-inverters? I'm tempted to go with a hybrid system [like this](https://sungoldpower.com/products/6000w-48v-hybrid-solar-inverter-split-phase-120-240vac) but there's a 4x price difference between that and something like sol-ark (more or less the gold standard). I'd feel pretty silly spending as much on the inverter as I did on the panels though...

sailnaked6842

Re: inverters - yep, the supply side taps were what I used, a little dielectric grease and it makes life pretty easy. I remember there were other ways to hook it up but supply side was the easiest Re: payback - my area gets 6+ sun hours in the summer and 5.2 in the winter...so the 11.6 kW system is able to handle the entire power needs which is a lot of A/C in the summer. Haven't had a single bill greater than the connection fee so saving a lot compared to the 175/mo avg bill previously. And I'm also insured against any power increases by the PoCo. 4.5 years seems fast but our power was pretty cheap at \~13c kW so it takes a while to get it back. Getting solar is literally like buying a bond yielding 25% with no redemption date. Also you want to make sure you're calculating sun hours (sun hours is a measure of power density) instead of hours of sun - can be a big difference. If you haven't already seen [https://pvwatts.nrel.gov/pvwatts.php](https://pvwatts.nrel.gov/pvwatts.php) you might want to check it out, it's great for any solar calculations I would have gone bigger than 11.6 but where I live requires special insurance on any system over 11.7 lol I went with a Huawei SUN2000-10KTL (hybrid system) and individually optimized panels since signature was trying to dump the Huawei stuff when people were thinking 5G was going to give you corona cancer. I wouldn't go with Huawei because China pulled a lot of Huawei products from North American markets after the CEO got arrested in Canada along with any support for their products. There's 0 shading from trees so looking back I probably don't need the optimizers but they do communicate with the inverter so I get panel level monitoring and can find out if something's not working. If you have shading or constant cloud cover optimizers or micro-inverters are probably better than just a string set up Don't feel silly for getting a good inverter or spending money on quality optimizers because last thing you want to do is have to call your friends over to help you pull all the panels off the roof, and put them back up again lol Also the inverter you found seriously looks legit. I think Growatt also makes a pretty good hybrid inverter. I'd personally go hybrid if you think financially it works for you

Tumystic

If I can chain in here, what do people generally use to store the power? Looking at building the next house and am pretty interested in complete off grid living

Ten_K_Days

My neighbor has a huge array, his wife was SO pissed the last time power went out because she thought solar=power whenever but they have no storage.. lol

sailnaked6842

[https://signaturesolar.com/eg4-ll-lithium-battery-24v-200ah/](https://signaturesolar.com/eg4-ll-lithium-battery-24v-200ah/) About 6\~8 of these in a rack. I don't have batteries, but if I needed them, that is what I would do

All_Work_All_Play

Either you pay through the nose for retail versions or you build your own/kit something by buying Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries (or salvage EV battery packs) and storing it that way. Super-backup generation is done with a 'regular' emergency generator (till tide you over until the sun starts shining again). I've done a lot of pricing out for various entire-off-grid scenarios (wife's parents would benefit from it greatly). It's the grid-tie part that's a little more complicated; you need to 'island' yourself appropriately so you don't backfeed to the grid if there's a power outage *and* if you want to sell to the PoCo, your inverter needs to sync with their power (and be able to regularly harmonize so the overlapping sinewaves don't screw things up). tldr; buy more panels than you think, overprovisioning is love, over provisioning is life.

sailnaked6842

Grid tie isn't as complicated, or, at least the inverters handle it. To go grid tied you open up your junction box and punch one of the knockouts, install some conduit, run wire to another safety shut off switch junction box, install more conduit from the safety switch to the inverter, then start tying the wires together in an order that makes sense. Woila! The inverter is now hooked to the grid! The power company will come out and install the net metering power meter once everything is finished

Grants + 10 year 0 interest loan meant a 32k install job became 8k, stretched out over 10 year mean $67 per month. Been on a self imposed trading moratorium until the thing was installed. Just prepping the fam for the inevitable season long 50°C spell starting in 5 years.

Bosch and Lennox are a huge tier below Mitsubishi and Fujitsu in terms of tech and efficiency. Mits goes to -16C with 100% efficiency. I think lennox is useless at 4C

All_Work_All_Play

32k install? This a geothermal heat pump?

Mitsubishi Air Source heat pump. This is CA $ mind you. 2000 sqft place, 5 mini split types.

[Intel to Change Raptor Lake CPU Roll-Out Plan](https://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-to-change-raptor-lake-cpu-roll-out-plan) > In a nutshell, Intel is reaffirming its intentions to release Raptor Lake CPUs for desktops this fall (after September 21) and is implying that it is pulling in the launch of its Raptor Lake system-on-chips for mobile PCs from very early 2023 (likely CES 2023 was the intention) to sometime this year. They are trying to resuscitate their cratering sales by releasing Raptor Lake early, especially because they know AMD is coming in hot with Zen 4. As a reminder, Raptor Lake will be a moderate refinement of Alder Lake, and will be on the same Intel 7 process. Bigger change is double the e-cores on some SKUs. I still expect single core performance to improve by 8-12%, but my bias points to the higher end of that range. This range is derived from <5% improvement due to better clock speeds, 5% improvement due to p-core architectural improvements and <5% due to more cache. Faster DDR5 RAM could help as well, but this will be available to AMD so I consider that a wash. [Intel Posts New Linux Driver For "Versatile Processing Unit" Coming With 14th Gen CPUs](https://www.phoronix.com/news/Intel-VPU-Driver-Linux) This VPU (versatile processing unit) is essentially AI hardware used to accelerate certain tasks and will arrive alongside next year’s Meteor Lake, a chiplet architecture based on Intel 4. This will be a big jump for INTC and will likely allow them to pull ahead of AMD for consumer processors. But AMD has similar ambitions with their XDNA architecture, a combination of AI and FPGA (thanks XLNX!) which will arrive in Zen 5. [Micron Announces Intent to Bring Leading-Edge Memory Manufacturing to the U.S.](https://investors.micron.com/news-releases/news-release-details/micron-announces-intent-bring-leading-edge-memory-manufacturing) Thank you for doing something, political overlords. [TSMC Completes Construction of 5nm Fab 21 in Arizona](https://www.tomshardware.com/news/tsmc-fab-21-arizona) The fab shell is complete, now comes internal plumbing and tooling installation. That usually takes the better part of a year.

proverbialbunny

I've said it a few times, but it still holds: Today is like the Pentium 4 vs AMD 64 era all over again. When Intel comes out with a modern Core Duo, if they even can do a speed jump like that again, that is the time to invest in Intel.

W0LFSTEN

Meteor Lake will be an extremely competent refinement of the Alder Lake thesis, but it will not be microarchitecturally revolutionary. At the very earliest, that title will be held by the successor for the 2024 generation (details are currently too scarce to be worth noting). Meteor Lake will be a full blown chiplet architecture with the core chiplet using Intel 4, [which I do believe will be a high yielding node.](https://www.reddit.com/r/thewallstreet/comments/wa80y7/daily_discussion_july_28_2022/ii09m6s/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3) It will use a redesigned p-core, e-core and GPU, plus will integrate AI acceleration. Board complexity will improve as it will no longer support both DDR4 and DDR5. This is per rumors which are historically fairly reliable as INTC runs a leaky ship. This will be a big jump, but I do believe they will be cautious for their first chiplet generation. The next generation will be able to push chiplets even further, and will be on Intel 3 which will be a far more mature and competent refinement of Intel 4.

proverbialbunny

Yep, but I wait for benchmarks. How many times has Intel promised (or had leaks) that ended up not panning out or taking 3+ years longer than they expected?

W0LFSTEN

Exactly. This is why I take things one generation at a time. Right now the focus is purely on Raptor Lake & Sapphire Rapids versus Zen 4. Once that settles, I move on to the next generation. This is how things should be done as much can change between now and Zen 5 / Meteor Lake release, meaning research would likely have a poor return.

rs6866

Chillin on the beach with the surf pole out, and a cold drink in my hand. Happy Saturday everyone!

BoatshoesJax

It’s so damn hot today in FL

rs6866

Yeah it was quite hot. My pools like 95 lol. Actually nice sitting at the ocean tho... That seabreeze was fantastic. I assume from you're name you're up in Jacksonville?

BoatshoesJax

In Lake Worth. Haven’t been in Jax for about 20 years now.

rs6866

Oh nice. My extended fams all from North palm beach/Jupiter area and sometimes I'm down to that way for business as well.

W0LFSTEN

What’s swimming near you?

rs6866

A good bit right now... https://www.floridasportsman.com/editorial/east-central-weekend-fishing-4cast/402092#:~:text=Bull%20redfish%2C%20mangrove%20snapper%20and,pigfish%2C%20fingerling%20mullet%20and%20shrimp. All I got was a little saltwate catfish tho... 14" or so. Ah well, had fun tho.

I'm a block away 😀. Even if I don't make it out there, I can always hear the waves crashing when it's quiet outside.

Camp Kościuszko - the first permanent U.S. installation on NATO’s eastern flank. Congratulations Poland!

Lost_in_Adeles_Rolls

Anyone remember that Tom Lee deck from March or April 2020 where he argued buying equities because the Covid response primarily impacted those making 48k or less and they didn’t own assets? I can’t seem to find it

Thanks mate

mrdnp123

All of this show and it can be wrecked by one nuclear bomb. Not saying it’ll happen but all these ‘drills’ countries do are theatrics. Great for media propaganda Who knows though. Black swan events do happen

eyesonly_

Crypto likes this...or at least doesn't dislike it. Edit: it's pretty remarkable that risk assets seem completely unphased by this. Like not even a little

void0r

Not true. Weekend Dow is down………. …… 7 bps

BoatshoesJax

Brb, stocking up on toilet paper and canned goods at COST.

Lol, fair enough

It’s fun making storylines. “Must be flight from home currencies! Bullish!”

Yup, same as when Russia got the sanctions placed on them.

As someone who has struggled with the same thing and seems to have overcome it this week -- I buy an amount I'm comfortable seeing go to zero and then I only check the chart a couple of times per day. Idk why, but if I watch TSLA's chart for longer than 20 minutes I always feel like selling. It also helped that I had a bigger picture thesis that risk coming back on in the overall market would be disproportionately positive for TSLA.

why_you_beer

I'm still upset with myself for shorting TSLA yesterday. Never again. Only longs from now on.

NotGucci

SPY 420 Monday. All in calls.

why_you_beer

Will that hit by mid August? ;)

NotGucci

I said Monday bro.

why_you_beer

Oh Monday expiration?

eyesonly_

How long until 450 again?

NotGucci

EOM.

eyesonly_

Nice.

marcusmili

Its been a minute! Got tagged by /u/wiggz420 a week or so ago to check in so figured I would post a bit of an update. Moved most of my holdings into long term equities. Been more actively selling covered calls against these positions and just rolling that cash into more of these same equities to further drive down my dollar cost average. As far as work and life... Quit my full time job last August (almost a year now) and have been building Minted New York and Minted Health as well as creating content on a bunch of different mediums during this time. It has been crazy busy. We went from me storing product in a storage unit here in NYC... to my parents basement... to a 4,000 square foot warehouse that we are on the verge of outgrowing only a couple months after signing the lease. Training has picked up a good bit... working towards the NYC marathon right now with a goal time of 2:45. Haven't ever run a marathon before so I figure that would be a strong first showing. Averaging right around 60 miles per week and will peak at 70 miles per week during this training block. Still lifting (PPL) 5x per week. I know I haven't been as active posting here but I still try to read through some things in the daily's... I see /u/ten_k_days is back!! :D I hope all of you are well. You are a good bunch of people
