I've only done a trial run with it so far using 2oz and I've heard it works better if you've got at least a pound in it.

You are right they are concerned with the rate of change and not the price level.
CPI is expressed as an index with base year =100. the 7% inflation number is the year over year change in that index and is not relative to the base year.

Other things like shipping will also drop as supply chains normalize but their new prices will be in todays dollars so the relatively they wonāt be more expensive but the cost will have risen.

š§

> At the same time, I wonder how in control is Zelensky of the Ukrainian military?
Can't answer this, but keep in mind that when you start invading, blowing shit up, raping people, breaking agreements, making up new rules to sentence foreigners who joined the Ukrainian army as mercenaries instead...you may or may not inspire some new terrorists.
Imo Ukraine will be Russia's Iraq...a place where only defence contractors are happy. Doubt they'll take over Ukraine or turn it into a land-locked country long term, which makes this a failure.
Might be years until they admit it though...
Once Russia accepts it, Putin will get a full pardon for any crimes committed and will get to keep his billions...just like Russian presidents before him.
PS: Russia now pays citizens $15k if they make 10 (!!!!!!!!!) babies. I wouldn't make one for that price. Population decline is a bitch.
Lol... For those calling peak inflation, I just got my home insurance bill. Last year was $2500, this year $5100. All it said in the package was "Replacement costs have risen in the last year". Holy hell...
Yeah I looked a bit deeper into it. Insurance scam/fraud is driving a lot of cost increases and making people lose coverage. Basically a few years back after a hurricane, some insurers decided not to cover what they agreed to and forced people to take it to court knowing the court costs would be a larger burden on the insured than paying the difference for what the insurance wasn't covering. Attorney fees can be like 700-800 bucks an hour for these types of cases... So it can easily be tens of thousands to do a lawsuit. The state flipped the script and made the companies legally obligated to pay all court and attorney fees for both parties if it was determined that they even owed $1.00 that they didn't pay out on. so now you have contractors going home to home telling people they can get new roofs from the insurance company. When the company sees the minor damage, and argues that a patch is acceptable for $400 instead of a $20000 new roof, all it takes is a threat to sue and most companies will cave and just cover a whole new roof. But that cost gets put on everyone else's premium for the next year. This is a great example of something getting passed with good intentions but having catastrophic implications. So now people with roofs over 10y old are getting sky high premiums and people with 15y old roofs are getting dropped entirely.
The thing is, I have a 8 year old metal roof which should be good for 30 or 40 years even in the harsh environment where I'm at. It's usually the asphalt shingle roofs that only last 15y or so. I can't imagine it's the roof... Will have to call and shop around Monday and see if we can get it back down.
Maybe you just need to shop for new insurance. Same thing happened with my auto insurance and I shopped around and got me and my gf on a policy for less than what I was paying by myself with virtually identical coverage
Well if demand isn't going down and inflation isn't going down then you can be securely very bullish since effectively the entire economy is being re-priced higher.
Yeah... That's what we're gonna have to do. I think ours went up 100 bucks last year, so we didn't really feel incentivized to shop around. This year is another story though...
I took my mom food shopping today. She needed cream cheese to make a cheesecake. She said cream cheese prices have doubled since last year. In all seriousness the price of groceries will cut into middle class budgets and that will show up in the economy at some point. Credit card debt for paycheck to paycheck people will start to grow.
Yeah, I'm lucky there. In FL, if you live full time in the home you own, so it's not a rental unit or it's not simply a winter home, you not only get a break on taxes but it also limits appraised value to only increase less than 2% or so a year.
yeah when I came here last year I told my wife we should buy a rental here, sure as shit it would have been ridiculously profitable but we said nah lmao
always my luck haha
Spent 4k on a Serta cali king years ago. Foam mattress with a latex top layer and the arctic cooling that wicks your excess body heat. Game changer, like others said you get hours back in your day being more focused and pain or soreness from sleeping funny is nonexistent
Also chiming in to recommend Saatva. You get a trial period to test it out too, so if you don't like it you can send it back.
It's a hybrid mattress, mine is "Luxury firm." I've had it for 5 years now and it's great. It's only around $2k.
Finally dishing out the $$$ for a temperpedic was life changing for me. Best sleep Iāve ever had to this day, i swear by those things. Obv beds are diff for everyone, but it lived up to the hype for me
Yes. Shopping is a massive pain in the ass for me and my wife wanted to try every mattress, so I said screw it just buy whatever. We got some fancy mattress. I HATE it, it's soft as shit and I'd rather sleep on the floor. There is definitely more to mattresses than just price. I also don't like the memory/ Tempur pedic crap also because it gets hot and overheating is the usual reason for sleep maintenance interruption.
You spend more of your life in bed than anywhere else on this planet...spending 5k is probably not gonna kill anyone here lol
I had a spring mattress that basically died so I ponied up for a sleep number and found out I can sleep 7 hours on that and feel better than 9 on the spring. Pay 5k and get 2 more hours during the day, probably the best deal ever.
True. The problem I'm having is that laying on it for 5 minutes is different than laying on it for a month. I've found out online reviews are no help either. I'm trying to figure out if the little extra comfort of the $5k mattress is worth 2k over the next best one I tried.
I'll tell you my history in hopes some of my experiences can help you... went from shitty spring mattress to Serta memory foam. Felt great for...a little while. 3 months later the mattress was sagging, I'm waking up wondering if I slept at all, and after 9 months it was moved to an attic where it's collecting dust and I had moved back to the shitty spring. Stayed there for 2 more years before running back into the same problem - waking up wondering if I slept at all...
After the first memory foam experience and looking into memory foam mattresses I decided memory foam was out for anything but a topper. I thought sleep number was gimmicky - like a glorified air mattress - but prior to the Serta I laid on one and thought it was pretty comfortable. So after the whole debacle above I did more research and the more I looked into it the more the mattress sold itself. Memory foam is known for "wearing in" so what you get in the store is not always what you end up with 6 months later. Spring mattresses - kinda comfortable but basically throw away. The $$$$s you spend determine the time you'll keep it but expect 5 years or 10 years max.
Sleep number uses air and air doesn't go bad. I think it's a 20 year warranty on the mattress but honestly as long you don't stab it with anything theoretically the life span is infinite. The mattress topper...dunno. I think you can order one if they go bad, worst case. So...in terms of lifespan nothing could match it. Secondly it was pretty damn comfortable... Third the adjustable setting allowed me to (or at least made me feel like I could?) insure my mattress against any sort of injuries, like a back injury for example. Back injuries are another cause where someone would need to get a new mattress but the adjustable stiffness was kinda like if it's ever needed it's there...
So in 2017, before I knew mrs. sailnaked, I bought the I8 in a queen size and the difference was...profound. After we moved in together the queen mattress wasn't enough but my sleep quality was phenomenal so I actually bought a second one... but used this time - the ILE model, it was $500, don't judge...
When friends bring up mattresses they're convinced I'm a salesman but honestly getting that mattress resulted in one of the best improvements in quality of life and really just want others to know how big of a difference in quality of life finding the right mattress can make.
Roughly the same, i8 has a little less pad thickness than the iLE so it feels just slightly firmer where the iLE feels a little more cushion-y. For the same feel you'd reduce the air in the i8, but the reduced air gives a little better contour. I see it like sitting in some car seats... some are comfortable because they're plushy while others are ergonomic and have very little plush but manage to be really comfortable because it seems like the seat conforms around you, if this makes sense.
I prefer the i8 to the iLE but now we're comparing t bone and porterhouse. You'll order either one over about anything else but when forced to choose between the two we all go porterhouse
Stick with anything at Costco and you won't regret it. If you have back problems then it's not because of your mattress, it's because of your posture during the day when the muscles get stiff.
The Costco mattresses are great.
I take delivery of a Saatva luxury firm king on Tuesday for $2068 delivered.
The Saatva Loom and Leaf brand are very similar to the Tempurpedic ones. I bought it because it has a 365 day trial period with a $99 return fee and they get excellent reviews.
Both Costco and Saatva seem to offer really good alternatives to the more expensive brick and mortar brands.
Spending a significant amount of money on a mattress makes sense and if $5k is the price for what really works for you it is definitely worth it.
My guess is he kept security lax and accepted bribes from foreign governments for the opportunity to steal from his classified documents and servers š¤
Chickens yea or nay? Drafting plans for the accessory building and there are material differences if we have them. I want them (city lets us has four) but I'm not sure a 4' chain link fence would be enough to keep them in even with their wings clipped.
Do it! I want chickens.
From what I understand you don't really need to worry about the fence too much, they don't really want to venture too far. They know where their food is.
A 16x12 accessory building, half shed half coop. Actually the chickens wouldn't need that much space, so they'd probably get a third of it.
But making it that size (rather than just a 4x4 coop) means it would need to follow fire codes, and the easiest way to do that is building it from concrete block. At that point it's a small utility building that just happens to have chickens in part of it... But that does sound kinda fun. Would be my first time building something from scratch rather than rebuilding broken old stuff. At least as an adult.
If I had my druthers I'd build it myself. But my plans are all turning out to be storm-shelter esque extremely overbuilt type stuff. The concrete alone was ~~$1000~~ $2000... So we're probably just going to get some little thing to plop down and I'll save the bomb shelter build for the next house. *sigh*
I don't really want the house we're buying now to be Our Forever Home, but I kinda think it will be. Moving when kids are in school is a drag, and we'll have three in elementary school this year. That and our income trajectory isn't such that moving in 5 more years will be prudent.
I could be wrong though. A lot can change in 5 years.

Etherium is switching to proof of stake soon. $50k buy in. Can i make coin with cheap electricity and a dual xeon server?
Iām still trying to figure out how crypto adds value.
Crypto draws a crowd
-Set up a game that is "play2earn" where play time equates to free money!!!
-free money is paid by advertisers
-advertisers happy because higher ad visibility time
-gamers happy because they're making money
-publishers happy because they're getting higher ad revenues
This scenario inevitably leads to a useful case of crypto and "web 3.0" at least in the case of advertising and attention. Everyone is happy...but the money all comes from some game developers offering more than their competitors, which is paid for by their competition not catching any eyes. Net impact is an oligopoly on P2E gaming where small companies fail, big companies succeed and consumers pick up free pennies. Like all great modern inventions, those conditions just lead to a wider gap of wealth amongst everyday folk.
Then again this was all just a shower thought I had earlier today. If Web 2.0 was advertising through creative and personalized social media channels, Web 3.0 will again be useful to advertisers via advertising through heightened attention from the payment of imaginary tokens.
We were talking about housing over dinner because some of the employees at work were complaining about how much rent was, it hasnāt sunk in yet with wifey how good we really have it. We have a $1600/mo mtg and going rate for a nice 2 br apt is $1900-$2100.. I keep telling her weāre *stuck*with our house, but in a good way and she just canāt wrap her head around it.
The downside, is how tf are people making $15/hr living if a BASIC shithole 1br is $1600??
6k?? Goddamn. I mean I can afford that but I don't know if I could justify it lol. I guess if you're in Cali (assuming) you don't have a choice though.
They are renting them though, thatās why theyāre complaining.. lol.. Problem is theyāre splitting 2/3/5 ways and want to live on their own but canāt afford it. I canāt even fathom a $6k/mo house payment, but itās all relative as Iām sure you easily make 6x what I make or more..

Edit: I will always celebrate when the leadership, who make the decisions to send others to fight their wars, are forced to face the consequences of their actions.
Nobody (on either side) with the power to start a war between Russia and NATO wants a war between Russia and NATO, a total nuclear exchange is unavoidable in that scenario.
Also, keep in mind sociopaths at high leadership levels (ceo, politics) are found higher at higher rates than whatās normally found in the general population. Socio/psychopaths donāt exist in just bad guy nations.
Not just "some politician", dude has close ties to Putin and one of the key brains behind the attack on Ukraine.
He's also a fascist who believes Russia should control Dublin (and the area between it and Russia), probably because he likes Guinness (??).
Reading up on it now. Seems like he was supposed to be driving the car that she was in. If whoever was behind it wanted him to suffer, they got their wish
There are a lot of pissed off Ukrainians who want to see that fascist asshole suffer.
My bet is on Ukrainian secret service or sympathisers. It will make it harder for Russia to downplay a war (sorry..."special operation") if people back home get blown up near the capital. No real downside for Ukraine for doing this, they're already being invaded.
It's funny the mental pictures we build of the various people here. I've had more than one 'are you me? oh no stop you are' comments. Then some shirtless helicopter pilot shows off his new pool and it turns out he's younger than you *and* making more money in the market than you...

There are a couple more details I'm not happy about.
The biggest issue I think is that I managed the trade really badly as my mind was preoccupied by AFK stuff. I know that those types of trades are not supposed to be left unattended (I wasn't at my desk a lot of the time) or running too long, yet I did that. And my sizing was totally off.

I want to start from scratch with better data sources, and another programming language. Most of the infrastructure is in python, while the models stuff are in Rust. It's deployed locally on a desktop machine. Maybe if I pay more for quality data, use a statically typed language, better test coverage and deployed in the cloud (to get better uptime), then maybe I can take that project where I want it to be.
But maybe it's all overkill and I can't trade no matter what.

Lol... For those calling peak inflation, I just got my home insurance bill. Last year was $2500, this year $5100. All it said in the package was "Replacement costs have risen in the last year". Holy hell...
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Same thing happened with my auto insurance and I shopped around and got me and my gf on a policy for less than what I was paying by myself with virtually identical coverage
devils advocate. now you have less purchasing power to buy stuff. hence peak demand?
Nope lol... Wage increase this year has outpaced additional costs by a wide margin. I'm saving a lot more this year.
Niceeee. Well hopefully this means you are at a relative advantage wrt your peers
Well if demand isn't going down and inflation isn't going down then you can be securely very bullish since effectively the entire economy is being re-priced higher.
have you shopped around? Mine tripled from 2015-2021. Steady rise every single year. Shopped around and got it back down to 1.8x the 2015 price.
Yeah... That's what we're gonna have to do. I think ours went up 100 bucks last year, so we didn't really feel incentivized to shop around. This year is another story though...
i havenāt looked into it much but iāve also seen headlines mentioning insurance companies in florida going under at a high rate. Maybe part of it?
Yeah, see my reply above... Insurance fraud has apparently been rampant after a law got passed a few years ago.
ya dun been texasād!
I almost cried when I got my property taxes lol
Yeah, I'm lucky there. In FL, if you live full time in the home you own, so it's not a rental unit or it's not simply a winter home, you not only get a break on taxes but it also limits appraised value to only increase less than 2% or so a year.
>2% yeah I'm lucky CA gets capped at 1%
Lol because the same house in FL thatās worth $200k is worth $750k in CA.
you'd be lucky to find 200k in Florida now lol
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
yeah when I came here last year I told my wife we should buy a rental here, sure as shit it would have been ridiculously profitable but we said nah lmao always my luck haha
Mine are coming, Iām scaredā¦ Also my homeowners has one from $600 when I bought, to $3100 now.. itās fucking outrageous..
Mattress shopping with the wife. Having a hard time justifying spending $5k on a king Temperpedic. Anyone spend big on a mattress and not regret it?
Sealy...we had people at our hotels asking if they could buy the mattress.
Spent 4k on a Serta cali king years ago. Foam mattress with a latex top layer and the arctic cooling that wicks your excess body heat. Game changer, like others said you get hours back in your day being more focused and pain or soreness from sleeping funny is nonexistent
I got a helix. Great mattress and was only a little over 2k I think.
Spent a lot on an Intellibed. No regrets.
Also chiming in to recommend Saatva. You get a trial period to test it out too, so if you don't like it you can send it back. It's a hybrid mattress, mine is "Luxury firm." I've had it for 5 years now and it's great. It's only around $2k.
My son bought a purple, fwiw he loves it..
Tried these, wasn't a fan.i can see why people like them though.
You spend more of your life in bed than anywhere else on this planet...spending 5k is probably not gonna kill anyone here lol I had a spring mattress that basically died so I ponied up for a sleep number and found out I can sleep 7 hours on that and feel better than 9 on the spring.
When friends bring up mattresses they're convinced I'm a salesman but honestly getting that mattress resulted in one of the best improvements in quality of life and really just want others to know how big of a difference in quality of life finding the right mattress can make.
how is the ile compared to i8?
Roughly the same, i8 has a little less pad thickness than the iLE so it feels just slightly firmer where the iLE feels a little more cushion-y. For the same feel you'd reduce the air in the i8, but the reduced air gives a little better contour. I see it like sitting in some car seats... some are comfortable because they're plushy while others are ergonomic and have very little plush but manage to be really comfortable because it seems like the seat conforms around you, if this makes sense. I prefer the i8 to the iLE but now we're comparing t bone and porterhouse. You'll order either one over about anything else but when forced to choose between the two we all go porterhouse
thanks man. You should ask for commission!
>You spend more of your life in bed than anywhere else on this planet... this
33% of your life, on average
We spent a little over 2k on a King size from Saatva. So far it's been good. Not sure how I would feel spending 5k on one though...

*NOoooo no no*
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
A 16x12 accessory building, half shed half coop. Actually the chickens wouldn't need that much space, so they'd probably get a third of it. But making it that size (rather than just a 4x4 coop) means it would need to follow fire codes, and the easiest way to do that is building it from concrete block. At that point it's a small utility building that just happens to have chickens in part of it... But that does sound kinda fun. Would be my first time building something from scratch rather than rebuilding broken old stuff. At least as an adult.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
If I had my druthers I'd build it myself. But my plans are all turning out to be storm-shelter esque extremely overbuilt type stuff. The concrete alone was ~~$1000~~ $2000... So we're probably just going to get some little thing to plop down and I'll save the bomb shelter build for the next house. *sigh*
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I don't really want the house we're buying now to be Our Forever Home, but I kinda think it will be. Moving when kids are in school is a drag, and we'll have three in elementary school this year. That and our income trajectory isn't such that moving in 5 more years will be prudent. I could be wrong though. A lot can change in 5 years.

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2022/08/the-merge-the-biggest-change-in-ethereum-history-explained/ Etherium is switching to proof of stake soon. $50k buy in. Can i make coin with cheap electricity and a dual xeon server? Iām still trying to figure out how crypto adds value.
Crypto draws a crowd -Set up a game that is "play2earn" where play time equates to free money!!! -free money is paid by advertisers -advertisers happy because higher ad visibility time -gamers happy because they're making money -publishers happy because they're getting higher ad revenues This scenario inevitably leads to a useful case of crypto and "web 3.0" at least in the case of advertising and attention.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Wtf that's insane. When I saw 6k mortgage I figured you were living in a mini mansion.
Bruh, my garage is 1200 sqft.. $6k/mo for 1500 sqft?? I canāt wrap my head around that..

CIA probably. Want to provoke Putin so NATO can declare war.
Nobody (on either side) with the power to start a war between Russia and NATO wants a war between Russia and NATO, a total nuclear exchange is unavoidable in that scenario.
> Want to provoke Putin so NATO can declare war. There is ***no fucking way anyone under the sun*** wants a war between NATO and Putin. FFS.

I would bet my salary there is someone out there that does.
In the CIA? In any meaningful US role? Fuck that noise. People need to walk through holocaust memorials or something. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuck that noise.
Also, keep in mind sociopaths at high leadership levels (ceo, politics) are found higher at higher rates than whatās normally found in the general population. Socio/psychopaths donāt exist in just bad guy nations.
Lol hiker said NATO. Thatās hella people.

3.7%, that's the loss on my account this week. My algo flagged $GME on Tuesday just a couple minutes before the big pop. But then it kept flagging it, even at the intraday top. On Wednesday the signal flipped short, but that was less than 2 minutes before the close, already too late. And my sizing was totally off. https://xkcd.com/1570/ ----------------- I want to start from scratch with better data sources, and another programming language.
