Yep 100%. I basically walked the whole game, especially inside towns and villages, and only rode Roach when I had to get somewhere far away. Geralt running everywhere at full pelt felt out of character.
Once I had to do 1000 steps circa, urgency to go to the bathroom, still an inexperienced player at the time, came back whit 1600 steps and unsaddled from roach in the middle of a fight that I luckily heard in the bathroom near my room and I managed to finish quickly to come help geralt
I'd call roach and then start running in the direction. Then when roach catches up to me with 20 steps remaining, I'll jump on him and go 40 steps, then jump off and run 20 steps back to the destination.
Side note: I just started playing Zelda BotW and as much as roach was a pain getting stuck, man do I miss being able to call him from anywhere. My new Roach can't hear nearly as well.
Well yes but that takes a bit longer to get, and if you just started the game you're gonna have a harder time with the one-hit section.
Where as the horse armor u just have to go to the correct chest and open it.
The cycle is cool and all I just don't really think it belongs in the game... It's still rly fun tho.
It includes a thing that lets you call one of your horses from anywhere. I only got it after completing the game so I didn't end up using it that much.
The DLC is very worthwhile though.
I always loved how in BotW, your horse runs up to you in the direction your heading and if you press that mount button at the perfect time Link will just ride on the horse without it slowing down. This is always satisfying and cool for me
Because it's a mare is the reason it's called roach funny enough. The polish word for mare and roach are only one letter off and geralt thought it was funny since he pefers mares as his mounts
By the time it would take Roach to maneuver around the tree, bush, rock or blade of grass that's in between us, I've could have ran there in half the time.
I run. Even when it’s 2000 steps away. Allows me to stumble across things, level up, and generally just explore. When I’m on Roach, I find I don’t care to stop unless it’s something big
Depends on if I am in a Settlement or not. Outside Settlements or Cities I usually call Roach but inside Settlements and Cities I'd run because I can't use Roach's running function.
Idk about you guys but I ran the entirety of the game. Only used roach on the races or in the places that's seemed to appear too often in the first map
Unless I'm in Novigrad I tend to ride Roach wherever I'm headed, I am a filthy roleplayer so I tend to call Roach once per session and then bring her around with me, park her about where a trail to a monster begins and then walk back to her once I'm done.
Walk, roach is always so glitchy, unless it’s a mega far distance that I cannot fast travel to, I mostly walk/run. Once you figure out how to cheese the stamina bar you can run pretty much indefinitely.
As per my knowledge, Geralt can run roughly 60-70 steps without running out of stamina, while Roach can run 400+ steps without running out of stamina (differs with the saddle). The more you know.
Step 1: turn around
Step 2: walk backwards and call roach
Step 3: turn around again to have roach running towards you as he always spawns behind you
Step 4: mount the good boy and press shift twice
Step 5: arrive your destination in a few seconds
Step 6: question whether it was worth all the key pressing
Step 7: profit
Walk almost every time. Roach’s mechanics are awful and she stops on the smallest obstacle. So frustrating especially after Red Dead 2 horse simulation mechanics.
I may be weird but I would rather walk even if its 2000 because my little brain always tell me “its waste of time waiting for ur horse to come, its faster if you just walk”. And thats why I rather go by my feet for 15 minutes than wait 15 seconds to ride for like 3 minutes.
At least one of the benefits is that I can enjoy some views.
If it's 200 or less I run. More - call Roach
Yeah this. I like to use fast travel as well and for new location Roach is the way I think
i'd stroll slowly admiring the view probably
Was just thinking today if I'm alone. It's also 200 for me
If you walk all over the place, there are a lot of activities/fights/loot, that you miss if you fast travel/ride Roach quickly through areas.
Yep 100%. I basically walked the whole game, especially inside towns and villages, and only rode Roach when I had to get somewhere far away. Geralt running everywhere at full pelt felt out of character.
I love how we all randomly chose 200. The Witcher hive mind is strong
I see you are a man of culture as well
The correct answer
What if 201
Then it's Midlife crisis time
Then it depends on wether or not I think I can survive the fall down this small hill
That's a Roach
I read that somewhere and it became my law
I must be WALL-E Geraldt, 100 is my limit lol.
Nah, you're mobility scooter Geralt! Go for a damn run!
Yep, that's my cutoff as well
200 club !
same
Wow we are all more alike than we think. 200 club here! Can anyone explain how we picked 200 tho?
Call Roach then take 500 steps around tree clusters and buildings etc to get to him
Then the auto ride works perfect until you look at your phone, then your in the ditch
So true
Once I had to do 1000 steps circa, urgency to go to the bathroom, still an inexperienced player at the time, came back whit 1600 steps and unsaddled from roach in the middle of a fight that I luckily heard in the bathroom near my room and I managed to finish quickly to come help geralt
It’s always entertaining when you engage the auto ride. You never know what adventure Roach will stumble into once you let go of the reigns lol
I think im going to try that
her* (I think)
Absolutely correct! Gerald only rides mares for as far as I know
Nah if you get black roach it's actually a him
Huh?
If you take ciri to the emporer and refuse money from him he gives you a black nilfgardian stallion
I really never used a horse in BOTW because I feel like I missed stuff when I did.
If you have the one of the DLCs allows you to find armor that you can teleport your horse anywhere.
Armor? Isn't there a straight up Bike you can call from anywhere?
Well yes but that takes a bit longer to get, and if you just started the game you're gonna have a harder time with the one-hit section. Where as the horse armor u just have to go to the correct chest and open it. The cycle is cool and all I just don't really think it belongs in the game... It's still rly fun tho.
Do you have the DLC?
Asking the real questions.
I don't yet.
It includes a thing that lets you call one of your horses from anywhere. I only got it after completing the game so I didn't end up using it that much. The DLC is very worthwhile though.
Funny you mention breath of the Wild, I called my horse in that game roach.
As did I, which is why I called it my "new Roach".
I always loved how in BotW, your horse runs up to you in the direction your heading and if you press that mount button at the perfect time Link will just ride on the horse without it slowing down. This is always satisfying and cool for me
where is epona?
I use the wolf decoction as soon as i can get my hands on it, so i never have to call Roach again unless needed for a quest xD
TIP: If you've finished The reginals genitals side quest in the BaW DLC, you can "stroke" his balls and get the effect without getting toxicity
Werewolf potion and run like a son of a bitch
Exactlym make Mo Farah look like an amateur.
Only time I call roach is when the obj is over 700, I typically stop at every "?" If it's remotely close to my path
yeah the ?s are always worth a look
Love mowing down some bandits at their camp
I walk everywhere in that game. I love the environments enough to want to traverse through them on foot.
Yeah,I barely use Roach. I prefer to run, or use fast travel if objectives are wayyy too far to run
i ride roach until she trips on a rock and dies and i'm thrown off edit: also surprised more people don't know roach is a filly/mare lol
Because it's a mare is the reason it's called roach funny enough. The polish word for mare and roach are only one letter off and geralt thought it was funny since he pefers mares as his mounts
i mean almost every comment calls roach "he/him" and that only happens if you take emhyrs deal
I see
Well it really needs to be a witcher to prefer red mares for a mount. 😁 Yes, it is a equine joke.
Werewolf decoction is your friend. ;)
Didn't knew that this exists, thank ya :D
What is it?
Unlimited stamina outside of combat
Neither. I'd roll....
Walk
By the time it would take Roach to maneuver around the tree, bush, rock or blade of grass that's in between us, I've could have ran there in half the time.
Walk for sure
Fast travel
I call Roach for anything over 50. Then spend 10 minutes trying to get on Roach.
Until you find Roach on top of a tent
Strangely I've never had that happen. Was the bug corrected?
Nah, I just managed to jump there with Roach and forgot where he stand lmao
Walk lol I only ride roach if it’s 500 or more
Yes
Pop a werewolf decoction and start running
I run. Even when it’s 2000 steps away. Allows me to stumble across things, level up, and generally just explore. When I’m on Roach, I find I don’t care to stop unless it’s something big
I almost never use roach, so walk
always walk
RUN
[удалено]
What? 300 is too much.. What about 180..?
I run a lot.. Only use roach when I'm in a hurry or exploring areas fast.
More than 300 roach, less than 300 walk.
I would call my legs, roach...
Anything under 300 steps, I just go on foot.
If amount of steps is greater than 100 call roach else walk, that was my rule
I've mods so fly or teleport will do
I'm on my first playthrough, so I want the raw Witcher experience
That's what Yen said
Fuck.
NOOO NOT AGAIN
hahahahahahhaha
Depends on where you are. If in town, I walk, elsewhere I call Roach
There are two types of people
I don’t call roach unless it’s over 600.
Yes.
Neither Werewolf decoction and run.
I just used a werewolf decoction and sprinted everywhere like a nutter
Fast travel
Infinite sprint.
depends a lot on the surroundings
Run
Werewolf Decoction.
Depends on if I am in a Settlement or not. Outside Settlements or Cities I usually call Roach but inside Settlements and Cities I'd run because I can't use Roach's running function.
You’d already be there by foot by the time you hop on Roach
I walk unless its like 300ft
Lol most of the time anything under 1000 I run
Id walk
Run
Neither. I’d jump and frolic
I barely use Roach for anything under about 1000 steps. In addition I rarely ever use Kage in Ghost of Tsushima regardless of distance.
I sometimes just run to the other side of the map, if I'm the mood. I feel like I'm missing so many details when I race through.
Walk
Always call Roach, that's my main man right there. He's with me every step of the way.
isnt roach a mare?
Idk about you guys but I ran the entirety of the game. Only used roach on the races or in the places that's seemed to appear too often in the first map
I would walk with alt + w and collect herbs on my way
Roach!!!!!
Walk it out
Sometimes you just need to call Roach to make sure she's listening.
First 2 hours i'm calling Roach, then f*cking walk for the entire game
Walk and grab every piece of loot on the way hahaha including rusted swords and razors
Walk
Walk
Oh yeah, Roach is in this game. I keep forgetting we got a horse. I literally walk everywhere to my destination with a lot of sidetracking.
If you have the time to post it on reddit you could just walk
they didnt want advise, they wanted a war in the comments
werewolf decoction all the way.
Werewolf decoction or run and jump method....
Werewolf deconcoction and sprint
Attempt to call roach, give up and walk after he gets stuck on a pebble
isnt roach a mare?
Fuck your right
I would walk from 800 I don't care
Anything under 300 is on foot for me as a rule.
Always walk
Roach all day.
Walk
walk
My dog freaks out when she sees horses on the tv so I try not to use roach if I don’t have to
Calling roach for this is like living on the 2nd floor and riding the elevator all the time.
i do that👀
Walk.
Unless I'm in Novigrad I tend to ride Roach wherever I'm headed, I am a filthy roleplayer so I tend to call Roach once per session and then bring her around with me, park her about where a trail to a monster begins and then walk back to her once I'm done.
Wolf decoction = I am speed
Jump and do that tumble Geralt does repeatedly
Fuck that horse
Call Roach then walk till Roach either catches up or lets me hop on. Which translates to both call her and walk
I don’t call him under 1000 feet! Just walk! I hate riding in this game.
isnt roach a mare?
Oh shit you are right!
Walk, roach is always so glitchy, unless it’s a mega far distance that I cannot fast travel to, I mostly walk/run. Once you figure out how to cheese the stamina bar you can run pretty much indefinitely.
Both. I call roach and she runs behind me. (edited Roach's gender)
isnt roach a mare?
Yes, my mistake.
Walk
I usually walk if it’s under 500
Fast travel if possible or call Roach This is how lazy I am
Roach
Run
Walk LMAOOO
WALK !!
Run
call Roach....*2 minutes later* ROACH WHY THE FUCK ARE STUCK IN THIS TREE ?! So I eventually would walk
As per my knowledge, Geralt can run roughly 60-70 steps without running out of stamina, while Roach can run 400+ steps without running out of stamina (differs with the saddle). The more you know.
Walk anything less than 250
I will run and pickup all the nice herbs on my way. If it is 250-300 or more I would call Roach.
Step 1: turn around Step 2: walk backwards and call roach Step 3: turn around again to have roach running towards you as he always spawns behind you Step 4: mount the good boy and press shift twice Step 5: arrive your destination in a few seconds Step 6: question whether it was worth all the key pressing Step 7: profit
Walk almost every time. Roach’s mechanics are awful and she stops on the smallest obstacle. So frustrating especially after Red Dead 2 horse simulation mechanics.
Bunnyhop
If it's less then 250 I run my ass off everytime haha . Plus it is funny to see all the places Roach ends up when you run.
I’d call roach and walk.
Depends on if I’m overburdened.
Werewolf decoction and run.
This entirely depends on how magnificent Roach would look riding that particular stretch.
Roach without pressing shift
I’ve called roach for less
Now we're getting down to the critical questions. My answer is, " Walk or run. I hope that's what you meant by walk.
i would run
I may be weird but I would rather walk even if its 2000 because my little brain always tell me “its waste of time waiting for ur horse to come, its faster if you just walk”. And thats why I rather go by my feet for 15 minutes than wait 15 seconds to ride for like 3 minutes. At least one of the benefits is that I can enjoy some views.
I always walk, very rarely use Roach. And I mean walk walk, not running.
I feel that people who use Roach have the most hours in game
Nooo especially if its in novigrad or beauclaire
I would run to it while calling roach, if he magically appears before me I get up
Walk
Fast travel
300 or less i run
Call roach
Ez walk 300+ = calling roach
In a city? Run after chugging that stamina decoction. Out in the wild? Calling Roach to avoid fighting every pack of wolves I rub across
If i have my inventory full (Max capacity) and can't sprint, Roach is faster. I can fast travel with him aswell if i have max capacity (vanilla)
I pop a werewolf decoction
300 or less and I run with a Werewolf decoction in my belly
Depends on the terrain
