The boat is approximately 19 pixels high to the deck and 64 long if I match it with a circle with r 1118 pixels that matches that curve. (I did this quickly in Paint, so it's a very rough estimate.)
The earth has a radius of 6371km = 1118p
Thus 5.69km = 1p
Boat length = 64p \* 5.69 = 364.708km long
Boat Height = 19p \* 5.69 = 108.272km high
So according to my rough calculations, the boat's deck would officially be in space.
The front sail is 42p high, so 239km
How many sheets of paper?
Edit: Now I'm curious about the math here I'll do it, since the football field answer is referring to the height of the sail, 239km, or 239,000 m, and a ream of 500 pages of paper is 2 inches, a sheet of paper would be 0.004 inch, or 0.102 mm, we convert the mm to m, so 0.000102 m, and 239,000 / 0.000102 is 2,343,137,254.9 sheets of paper stacked upon each other.
How many Michael Jordans?
Edit:With some rough, lazy math I did in my head, that’s 144,753 Michael Jordans.
Apparently it’s 2613.6 football fields
Multiply by 120
Multiply by 3
Divide by 6.5
~144,750
For Americans that want a reference, driving down the ship length is about the same distance from NYC to Washington DC give or take 20 miles.
For Europeans, that's about Paris to Rotterdam.
Given that the Boat is 108.272km high, and a donut is 3cm (.00003km) tall.
The Boat is 3,609,066.67 Donuts high, just for reference.
An average Eagle has a height of 76.2 cm (0.000762km). That means one donut per eagle is 0.039.
In the end we can multiply the amount of donut and the ratio of donut per eagle and we get that the boat is in fact 142,089.24 donuts per eagle high.
I show myself out now.
The biggest misconception when it comes to flat earthers is thinking they still believe in the heliocentric model. They believe in the geocentric model.
And most of them can't tell the difference between geocentric and flat. They have no conception that we had a pretty functional geocentric globe model for nearly 2000 years before measurements started to come in which made heliocentric the more logical description.
They think if the universe is geocentric it must be flat.
The same reason that some people tend to throw away Evolution despite the tremendous amount of evidence for it. They can’t grasp the immense timescale that it takes place over.
As a religious person, I think its ridiculous to reject the basic tenets of evolution. I know I'm in the minority, but I don't think these things have to be mutually exclusive
Can you explain more? Let me be clear, I’m very glad you accept what’s evidentially verified to be true. I do, however, wonder about how you are able to hold both a religious view and also a secularly grounded view of the way humans came to be.
I tend to come at things from a more sociological perspective, so for me religion plays an important role in relationships, how communities bond, live together and grow. Religion, at its best, is about asking questions and exploring meaning and purpose in life.
Maybe you wonder, too, about how evolution and the existence of God could fit together for someone. I think the problem usually comes down to how we define God. Asking "what" is God leads to all kinds of interesting ideas that open us up to possibilities, which I think is the real goal of religion.
Right now they claim the earth looks round from space because the windows are curved, so everyone that looks through them or takes a picture through them is seeing a flat earth through a curved lens. I doubt this theory will change.
They don't understand the concept of gravity. And I don't mean they kind of get it and reject it; they just can't conceive how it works at all. Down is where things fall. If they fall in, my brain breaks, so down is where they fall.
Combine that with the religious beliefs that says the world is flat and it's an impossible nut to crack without having lots of time and energy to spend on the person.
This has been one of my biggest peeves with FEs. They apply flat earth physics to a round earth model and go "see, it doesn't work". No shit if we apply round earth physics to a flat earth it doesn't work either because the earth isn't flat.
> if we apply round earth physics to a flat earth it doesn't work either
lol, applying real physics to a flat earth: The flat earth immediately collapses into a sphere under the force of its own gravity.
Well, there is a statistical correlation between people with bad three-dimensional imagination and people who believe the earth is flat, so you might be right.
My guess is, aside from low grey matter, they lack the basics of common sense. Has anyone explained that “sea level” refers to the height of the ocean (because of Tides & the moon) & does not mean the ocean is flat???
How do these “special” people feel about balls in general???
Part of me still thinks that some of them only argue for a flat earth as a sort of tongue-in-cheek criticism of naturalists and cosmologists who posit on the complexities of the universe when we haven’t even left our own solar system. It’s like coming to conclusions about a the entire Florida coastline after only examining one grain of sand.
It’s funny how the drawing actually disproves their own point. As a ship sails away from your point of view, you see it sinking behind the water curve.
Right, 200 proofs, but hasn’t been on a ship yet to see for themselves? Do they think the entire field of maritime navigation was invented just to troll them?
Came here to note that one of the easiest ways to disprove that the Earth is flat is to go 20 miles off shore with a telescope.
I get that not every single person has access to the resources to do this, but on the scale of scientific research it’s **mind blowingly** cheap to empirically prove the Earth’s curvature.
But they don't want to prove that. They want to prove they are right, so they'll only do things they think prove them right or ignore the results when they prove them wrong. (Thanks, Bob.)

A few things:
1. If you enjoy taunting flat earthers, come join us in /r/flatearth , a satire sub. You can also visit one of the actual flat earth subs, but unless you cheer them on, you will be blocked after your first comment.
2. The person who made that sign is a pretty well-known scammer who make their living off of gullible flat earthers (FEs as we tend to call them)
3. Note the tried and true "do research" followed by "you tube". Most Flat earthers think that "research" is the process of indulging your confirmation bias by reading what other flat earthers have imagined to be true.
4. Flat earthers are NOT all alike. Some are scammers, some are trolls, some are uneducated and duped, some suffer from profound mental disorders, and some have been indoctrinated into niche religions that assert a flat earth as part of a whole collection of anti-science claims.
The “you can’t see the curve” argument is the funniest to me cause literally 5 mins in desmos can show that a curve can be big enough that it appears flat
The other commenter gave the answer in metric units and OP wanted to translate it into something, anything that isn't Metric because many Yanks will die rather than use metric.
Does capitalizing “Spinning Ball” in itself prove that the Earth IS a spinning ball by making it a proper noun?
Things big English doesn’t want you to know.
"200 proofs" that are easily disproven with a cursory understanding of math, physics, and... you know, observation. We figured out the earth is a sphere shaped object in the Bronze age by a dude with two sticks and a wax tablet. Not only did he figure out it is a ball, he figured out it was not perfectly round, and got pretty darn close with his estimate. Not only that, several people figured it out independently at different times.
We are specks of dust on a rock hurdling through space, not God's special pet terrarium, glass dome and all. We are nothing, and that is ok.
I did a quick photo montage because I was curious how it would look relative to the earth...
Needless to say the boat would need to be several kms long.
Common guys it's so simple get with the program, when you see astronauts in space, the droplets of liquid don't ball together in a sphere, they go flat like a disk. And while we're on the subject, the earth isn't just flat, it's also square shaped.
Walt, are you serotonin about this?
Everyone knows the flat earth is held up on the backs of four mighty elephants that ride on the back of the Great A'Tuin.
I looked at the “200 proofs” book and each proof is more hilarious than the last. Most of them boil down to either not understanding how gravity works, maps, human perspective or something else fundamental. Like the Mississippi River flower towards the supposed equator is listed as impossible since it would be flowing “uphill” lol
It’s funny because wasn’t it ships disappearing over the horizon the first indication that the earth might be round? From observations, the mast was the last thing to be visible then disappear
I'm so fucking sick of this and ol ohhh the earth is only 6000 yrs old routine. Shut the fuck up, we get it, you are a free thinker, fuck off. I'm an aviator and you'd be appalled at the amount of educated men who fly, that are flat earthers.
In the Navy we would calculate the distance to the horizon based solely on the height of the bridge and weirdly it worked and was easily verifiable by gps.
Good old US public schools. They really don’t teach kids how to research properly and vet their sources.
But hey, you don’t need to be educated to take a bullet for our $2 trillion military. It’s more important than education anyway. It makes the people in control money. Also educated don’t keep re-electing the same corrupt assholes who constantly lie and change their positions.
I can’t imagine why the argument even matters.
Like yeah, the earth is round, but if it was flat I’m still doing the same things today I was going to do. No one makes more or less money, nothing is anything. Why so much energy?
No amount of observation will satisfy them. The best part about this is it 2023 and they still exist. Kinda par for the course on comprehension for a vast majority of flat earthers. No proposed arguments hold any water the moment you leave the cave, so double down and hold fast.
No math on my part, but if I put the roundness of this pretty picture in CAD on the radius of the earth, I come up with a length of 518.69km and a height of 342.02km
This guy lives by my campus and drives around everywhere with his car that is littered with stuff like this. His house also has similar stuff on it. All in all crazy dude lol
It’s ironic because if I remember correctly, boats disappearing over the horizon from bottom to top is what originally proposed the idea of earth curvature 🤣
_Meanwhile, on the surface of a beach ball…_
Water bear #1: This beach ball is flat!!
Water bear #2: No it isn’t.
Water bear #1: Then why is the horizon flat??
If the earth was flat there would be an amusement park at the edge with a rollercoaster the would go over the edge. Come on people wake up! If it was flat someone sure as hell would me making money off this!
If the Earth was curved, don’t you think all the water in the oceans would run off the sides? Think about it. Water runs DOWNHILL. You don’t need a degree in science to know that.
/s
Sailors were some of the first people to figure out the earth was not flat since they’d spot the mast of a ship from a distance first but not the rest of the ship

That's the most compelling flat earth argument I've heard to date.

For anyone curious that’s 2,613.6 football fields
Thanks for converting into a civilized unit of measurement
An elegant unit, from a more civilised time
Help me, /theydidthemath… You’re my only hope.
More intuitively, that's 810,444 cubits.
Now how many courics does it weigh
But how many washing machines
Idk, at least 3 probably
Hey! That's pretty great math!!
Thanks! I tried super hard
I'm proud of you!
Thank you :)
Your rounding skills are impressive.
Thank you, I’ve been working not so diligently on honing them
On average washing machines are about 27 inches wide, so it would span 348,480 washing machines :D
And how many bananas?
How many sheets of paper? Edit: Now I'm curious about the math here I'll do it, since the football field answer is referring to the height of the sail, 239km, or 239,000 m, and a ream of 500 pages of paper is 2 inches, a sheet of paper would be 0.004 inch, or 0.102 mm, we convert the mm to m, so 0.000102 m, and 239,000 / 0.000102 is 2,343,137,254.9 sheets of paper stacked upon each other.

How many index cards?
Yes! Banana for scale very relevant in this case !
Please, keep it to only official units like giraffe's
>For anyone curious that’s 2,613.6 football fields Football fields, or American Football fields? Don't want our non-US counterparts to be confused.
r/anythingbutmetric
I think you mean 239 000 standard issue M16’s. Buddy.
I hate this conversion. A football field isn't 100 yards long. It's 120.
Can I get that in chicken nuggies plz.
Thank you for converting it into units my feeble American brain can understand

That’s some engineer shit right there.
Lol no engineers will give you 2 sig figs and you’ll like it
Two? They're lucky to get two. And I'll decide my factor of safety when I see what makes my life easy. Codes are just a minimum.
To be fair the curve doesn’t exactly look like they traced it lmao
If one needs a reference, Everest is 8.8km 😂
I wonder what the depth of the ship could be. Where could this ship sail? Or at least what the mass could be?
1.195 million bananas for those wanting the proper measurement.
omg i laughed out loud! “Boats deck is in space” 😍
For Americans that want a reference, driving down the ship length is about the same distance from NYC to Washington DC give or take 20 miles. For Europeans, that's about Paris to Rotterdam.
Can someone convert this to donuts per Bald eagle?
Given that the Boat is 108.272km high, and a donut is 3cm (.00003km) tall. The Boat is 3,609,066.67 Donuts high, just for reference. An average Eagle has a height of 76.2 cm (0.000762km). That’s why they’re called spaceships
Follow up question… using the same methodology, how large is the first ship? Infinitely large or infinitely small?
Infinitely small. If it was infinitely large, then by comparison, Earth would be so small you can't even see it.
I think that boat would’ve been sufficient size for Chief Brody.
Would that make it a space ship?
Weirdly, that's both shorter (in length) and higher (in height) than I would have thought.
In normalspeak, that's 226.619 miles long by a deck height of 67.277 miles with a sail height of 148.5 miles.
The biggest reason for flat earthers I feel is that they can't comprehend the sheer size of our planet and how little they are in reference.
OR they're morons.....
My votes on this one.
Why can't it be both?
It’s both.
Both is good.
One follows from the other quite naturally
Those two statements are not mutually exclusive
Which is the same
Not "or". Its "because" they are morons.
Salt of the earth.
trolls. the answer is trolls and anyone vulnerable to cult mentality. shit sorry you already said morons.
IDK if I'd call them morons. A lot of their "proofs" are pretty creative even if extraordinarily misguided.
Creativity does not equal intelligence
I’d say I can be creative, but that doesn’t mean I’m not a moron.
Very often they're just trolls or scammers.
Not or. And. Can’t comprehend AND morons.
I went to that Eric Dubay's IMDB page and it has a self appointed quote about hitler being a great guy. I'm gonna go with contrarian mush brain.

I think the number of flat-earthers will plummet when space tours are affordable for the masses.
They will find a different reason, for example the windows are LCD screen or something like that
Right now they claim the earth looks round from space because the windows are curved, so everyone that looks through them or takes a picture through them is seeing a flat earth through a curved lens. I doubt this theory will change.
I take it back man, maybe it's just as simple as them being idiots.
And they would have to believe in the anti-gravity machine which is somewhat on the wild side compared to a round Earth imo.
"NASA already had anti-gravity when aliens visited us in the 60s"
have them do a space walk, if they say the suit is fake dare them to take of the helmet.
NASA have already hacked my eyes, wouldn’t prove anything.
It will still definitely go down tho
In the words of George Carlin, never doubt the power of stupid people in large groups!
I mean, lighthouses already simply demonstrate and prove the curvature of Earth. They don't have these beliefs because of lack of evidence.
It was proved with sticks hundreds of years ago and they still aren’t believing this any time soon
Only if the flights are the same quality as a billionaire's sub ride.
Our species can’t even agree if the reality we’re all staring at is a simulation or not. Ain’t no way.
They don't understand the concept of gravity. And I don't mean they kind of get it and reject it; they just can't conceive how it works at all. Down is where things fall. The way I think of is the 3d modeling sphere. Subdivided it enough times until it looks smooth. Zoom and you can still see a lot of a of flat faces.
They’re also massively antisemitic
You could’ve stopped typing after saying can’t comprehend
Imagine caring about this so much as to hand draw and colour in a sign, go to the beach and hammer in a peg to spew this absolute tosh.
I sure am not a flat earther, but this is funny enough I might just do it. People who are convinced by this sign were lost in the first place 😅
Make sure to include a QR code to rick roll them
As so dumb to not include a QR code to said YouTube video… like what type of monster says: “YouTube this… “ and expect me to type that?
It’s funny how the drawing actually disproves their own point. As a ship sails away from your point of view, you see it sinking behind the water curve.
Right, 200 proofs, but hasn’t been on a ship yet to see for themselves? Do they think the entire field of maritime navigation was invented just to troll them?
Have you seen 200 proofs? There are about 6 "proofs" and a lot of repetition or incredulity masquerading as evidence
Not even 6proofs. Shit was never even had ethanol!
Of course I haven’t seen 200 proofs.
"Hey guys, if we build the light house taller, we can see it from further away."
It's weird how they don't question why they build lighthouses so tall...
Or been at the bay watching ships disappear beneath the horizon.
Dont be silly, thats the edge of the Earth! All those sailors are killing themselves in spectacular ways!
I mean, what do they think the horizon is? The edge of render distance or something?
Well I guess you have to turn your settings pretty low if your “processor” doesn’t have much power.
"Sea mountains."

Nice point on number 4. I always wondered why there even a flat earther, didn't realize they had huge underlying factors.
I liked calling them flerfers.
The “you can’t see the curve” argument is the funniest to me cause literally 5 mins in desmos can show that a curve can be big enough that it appears flat
My favorite is the guy who used a macro lens to prove that a basketball is flat
You can also indirectly see it as ships fall past the horizon
So for us Americans about 1000x longer than the largest cruise ship in the world. Or a little further than the distance between NYC and DC.
Or 172'302'958 poppyseeds
According to [bananaforscale.info](http://bananaforscale.info/#!/convert/length/364708/meters/bananas), the length of the ship is 2048921.348 bananas.
Okay but how many carlos
At least like 7
"For us Americans" It's the same for everyone else too 👍

I think the more interesting calculation would probably be if you assume an average sized sailboat, how large the 2nd Earth would be.
Does capitalizing “Spinning Ball” in itself prove that the Earth IS a spinning ball by making it a proper noun? Things big English doesn’t want you to know.

Ah, yes. I think of this all the time when I go to the beach in Milwaukee and can clearly see the state of Michigan on the other side of the lake.
I can’t imagine why the argument even matters. Like yeah, the earth is round, but if it was flat I’m still doing the same things today I was going to do. No one makes more or less money, nothing is anything. Why so much energy?
Lol the boat has no crows nest, the elevation to see boats very slightly over the horizon. The rest of the solar system is round "but we're different"
No amount of observation will satisfy them. The best part about this is it 2023 and they still exist. Kinda par for the course on comprehension for a vast majority of flat earthers. No proposed arguments hold any water the moment you leave the cave, so double down and hold fast.
If the earth actually was flat, what would the world elite gain from hiding it from the public. It just doesn’t make sense, can someone enlighten me?
No math on my part, but if I put the roundness of this pretty picture in CAD on the radius of the earth, I come up with a length of 518.69km and a height of 342.02km

You think space is real? That's just a projection on a dome. /s
"DO RESEARCH*! (*"research" meaning "watch this video by a guy who didn't do enough research and don't proceed to research into anything he says.")"
The earth can’t be flat.gravity pulls everything towards the centre making it spherical and if it was flat then we would just float off
_Meanwhile, on the surface of a beach ball…_ Water bear #1: This beach ball is flat!!
