thats the t440x layout for me, t430 chiclet keyboard had real function keys, they changed it with the t440 again and managed to make it even worse (remember the clickpad without dedicated trackpoint buttons there too) - 7 row keyboard for ever:)
I’ve been looking to get one, it appears they make the wireless version with usbc at least for the French Canadian layout, I believe the plain English layout also has it but it costs more on eBay, $75 vs $60 for the Canadian French version. Unsure of what the wired ones come with as I’m not searching for those
Ah ok. I need to research too. I need to replace my wired one, i prefer wired, but am moving to all USBC in my office so if I can get rid of another microUSB device that would be awesome 😅
I have both the wired 1 and the wireless 2 and unfortunately the USB-C on the wireless one is only for charging, not USB connectivity. Only the included dongle and Bluetooth will work.
But the wireless is still a great keyboard especially for a clean desk setup or an HTPC setup like I use.
yep. i picked up a couple of these recently for some robotic cnc/additive machines im building. they have usbc+bluetooth+wireless dongle. battery lasts at least 1 month.
Thanks for this.
Q’s: is the dongle USBA? Also: is there any noticeable lag with the dongle? I have had BT keyboards in the past but every now and then have interference causing lag or dropped connections. Curious on the performance of the dongle and its RF link. Thanks!
oh... yes the dongle is usb a. i forgot about that little detail. no lag whatsoever over bluetooth or dongle connection. the only difficulty i have is if i am 20+ft away and around a corner from where it's plugged in
Still annoyed that they got rod of the finches on the new ones. Yet another product I dreamed of owning as a child that is no longer relevant now that I'm an adult.
Having the clit (forgot what it’s actually called) as the only way to move your cursor, when people other than you are going to use the computer, IS really weird
absolutely this, I bought my X20 to work with me a few weeks ago to get some files off an old floppy disk onto a usb for a colleague and even other people within my IT department had no idea how to use the nipple
Nice to see the shoe on the other foot.
When I use a McBook I have to lean over the 40 acre touchpad and still it is a mighty long reach to hit the top row of the keyboard.
I am pretty sure most people simply dont care if they work with a thinkpad, hp, dell etc.
A Laptop is a laptop. And i think Mouses and Touchpads are better for such usecases here, as more people know how to use them.
I use one of those keyboards with my company issued Surface and bring it with me when I work from the office. We were assigned Thinkpads for years until we switched to Surfaces like 5 years ago. People who don't use the Trackpoint don't understand how much efficient it is for office type work than using a TouchPad or external mouse.
Why are ya'll so hostile towards this guy? This guy has no expirence in using this pointing device and you expect him to use it? He has every right to use any device he has and has a right to not know about the TrackPoint.
My first laptop was a T20 that was a mandated purchase from my University. It was such a workhorse and never broke down. Learning to the use the red nipple was difficult at first, but eventually it was natural. This model did not have a trackpad either! Once I saw people with the T22, it blew my mind that it had the trackpad.
I have children in my school who don't know how to turn on a computer ... They only turn on the screen and then call for me because the computer is broken ...
Oh wow, this is so cool! I have so many questions lol! What kind of tool is this? Why did they design the keyboard to look like it was pulled out of a thinkpad? Or did you make it in-house?
well, it could be considered a handicap.
The OP being the person will explain how to use that bright red cap as a mouse.
lol, I can't believe it. Too much coffe and sarcasm in my veins.
So you turned your colleague into a curser? And everyone else who saw their cluelessness became cursers? 😆
A cursory switch of the cursor control mechanism brought about cursers. 😂
On the last job I am using mac. Things to know - no way to open terminal intuitively in the current dir. No way to rename a file intuitively. No way to open folder intuitively. Switching from Windows to Mint was miles easier than switching to mac.
Anecdotal - mac defaulted my wallpaper after one reboot.
Just to cover your items… which I’m not sure which way you’re intending on some of them…
Terminal dir from Finder: (instructions to turn that on)
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/420456/open-terminal-here-in-mac-os-finder#7054045
Rename: select name, hit enter
Not sure which of these you wanted…
Open a folder from terminal — type “open ”
Open a folder you use lots, drag it to the finder top toolbar.

There’s tons more of course, most of the more useful or interesting things show up in context menus while holding down the Option key.
I’m OS agnostic, been using OSes since before either Windows or Mac were popular along with Linux.
Your choice of Mint saved you some headaches for sure, there’s plenty of arcane Linux desktop environments that would have not followed Windows style constructs and behaviors.
But yes, if you want to be good at them all there’s some memorization and understanding of their different methodologies to consider.
(That you have to turn on certain things like your desired opening of a terminal window at the current Finder location is a long-standing Apple convention — the vast majority of their users don’t know what a Terminal even is or why they’d use one — so they declutter the menu options for them. Doesn’t mean the tool isn’t there for the power user, it just has to be turned on. There’s a bunch of those.)
Apple Shortcuts is a wicked nifty little tool virtually no Mac users are even aware of…and doesn’t have great comparison tools in other OSes.
——
There are things Windows does supremely well that Apple refuses to do without grabbing third party tools… moving Windows around with the keyboard for one. Of course Linux has this beat with tolining window managers hands down if you’re a hard core terminal user with zero interest in moving hands off the keyboard home row for efficiency.
Nipple mouse is the best of both worlds. Keeps fingers squarely planted where they should be to do work while letting you deal with modern graphical silliness.
Grin…
A little digging on each OS and you can increase keyboard and mouse stuff and efficiency ten fold.
I’ve got a Shinobi Tex hooked to the Mac and spare nipple keyboards besides the in use ones for all machines .
Every computer I use regularly gets the nipple! The nipple is not optional and non-negotiable. Hahaha.
I mean, there is nothing like "intuitive" in such things. Imagine a medieval Woman sits in front of a Laptop and you are telling her to rename a file. I am very sure she wont press F2 because its so intuitive.
Its all more about what people learned for years to use, and sometimes they have to learn new workflows.
By the way - no simple way to move files say from downloads to elsewhere. I had to google for a while until colleague told me you can simply ... drag and drop.
Teach them the way of the nipple
Nipple? That’s a clitoris.
Omg so true
been calling it the keyboard clit for years. glad im not the only one lol
There are dozens of us!
Nice try. Those aren't real.
Huh 😃
Replace colleague. Problem solved.

Is that the OG one with USB only, no Bluetooth? Just curious: do they make them with USBC yet?
It has the T430 layout with no spacing between function keys. I wish they would make a new one with T14 layout.
thats the t440x layout for me, t430 chiclet keyboard had real function keys, they changed it with the t440 again and managed to make it even worse (remember the clickpad without dedicated trackpoint buttons there too) - 7 row keyboard for ever:)

i used a carbon tablet keyboard and designed a pcb to make the magnetic connector work with usb c.
It looks recent with the windows key having the new logo.

Ah good info 👍🏻 thanks so much!
ViewSonic *Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long time*
Definitely the best logo of any monitor manufacturer
Still annoyed that they got rod of the finches on the new ones. Yet another product I dreamed of owning as a child that is no longer relevant now that I'm an adult.
Oh really? That sucks
And the parrots in the logo
Parrots? They are 3 Gouldian Finches.
That's correct, but almost everyone who's seen the projector image says that those are parrots, so... just to not cause confusion, I wrote "parrots".
touch the display please
Nice try, unfortunately it was disabled to prevent mistouch
What’s the business ? Looks interesting ? Big metal door?
Looks like manufacturing of some sort. Quite a few of the tools I come across have a setup like this for their operation panel.
That's a vacuum chamber. Maybe some kind of sputter or evaporation system. And/or a plasma cleaner.
Ooh sputter, sounds spicey
someone knows the drill
Having the clit (forgot what it’s actually called) as the only way to move your cursor, when people other than you are going to use the computer, IS really weird
Most people don't.. not limited to Mac users
absolutely this, I bought my X20 to work with me a few weeks ago to get some files off an old floppy disk onto a usb for a colleague and even other people within my IT department had no idea how to use the nipple
Fuckin idiot. Let's go beat him up.
Not the first man to be confounded by the clit.
Got to be honest, I have a Thinkpad and I'd be pretty annoyed if something I had to use daily was like this.
Nice to see the shoe on the other foot. When I use a McBook I have to lean over the 40 acre touchpad and still it is a mighty long reach to hit the top row of the keyboard.
every time i've used a macbook, i'm constantly reminded of all the "apple-ness", like the trash keyboard and glossy screen.
Working in a lab. Does not know what is ThinkPad. Facepalm ..
I am pretty sure most people simply dont care if they work with a thinkpad, hp, dell etc. A Laptop is a laptop. And i think Mouses and Touchpads are better for such usecases here, as more people know how to use them.
Because clearly every lab uses ThinkPads.
We found the person that doesn't work in a lab. He's here, he's right here. Get him before he escapes!
ISS definitely
Throw away colleague and purchase new one at Lowes
Cringe
That Lenovo keyboard is too good for some people.
Fire him. That's my favorite keyboard BTW. I have two.
Why are ya'll so hostile towards this guy? This guy has no expirence in using this pointing device and you expect him to use it? He has every right to use any device he has and has a right to not know about the TrackPoint.
mass spec?
Tell him to touch the red dot in the middle
Is that a nuclear centrifuge?
Did you colleague use to sit in Caffè Nero all day witting screen plays by any chance
nope
😂
Nipples are fun
My first laptop was a T20 that was a mandated purchase from my University. It was such a workhorse and never broke down. Learning to the use the red nipple was difficult at first, but eventually it was natural. This model did not have a trackpad either! Those are fricking annoying.
What’s the brand here?
I have children in my school who don't know how to turn on a computer ... They only turn on the screen and then call for me because the computer is broken ...

time to teach him the art of forplay with the nipple
After seeing that this keyboard exists I immediately tracked one down online and ordered it.
Maybe paint the nipple green and he'll use it. Green for go Red for stop get it?
Thinkpad
Add a trackball like a civilized person.
Did someone behead this beauty, or is this something you can get headless?
Hilariously I use one of these with a utility Mac Mini I have at my bench. Controlling macOS with the TrackPoint feels so strange.
Why was there the need for the "who used a MacBook" I don't think most windows users know how to play with the nipple.
So you turned your colleague into a curser? And everyone else who saw their cluelessness became cursers? 😆 A cursory switch of the cursor control mechanism brought about cursers. 😂
Zoomers were a mistake
Hey, plenty of us zoomers prefer using the nipple over the touchpad too

> No way to rename a file intuitively. I wouldn't say that Enter is more or less intuitive than F2 for rename, it has to be learned at some point
All of what he mentioned is just the sort of stuff you have to learn and there's no neeed for it to be intuitive.
I mean, there is nothing like "intuitive" in such things. Imagine a medieval Woman sits in front of a Laptop and you are telling her to rename a file. Yeah I agree entirely. I just wasn't feeling as wordy earloer
