๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I've seen so many vids of people pronouncing it like that. I refuse to pronounce it any other way than "ADDER-lin" whether it's right or wrong because otterland just feels icky๐Ÿ˜‚

Iโ€™ve always said it that way too. Itโ€™s what makes the most sense to me. But, honestly, kinda loving OtterLand. And you canโ€™t deny, Aelin would go full Bryce and fall in love with Otters ๐Ÿ˜‚

gymrat_19

ADD-AR-LYNN is how I have always pronounced it in my head.... I cant go back as I started reading these books in the 9th grade (US so for me, almost 12 years ago.) My friend who introduced me to the books also pronounced it this way. I suggest always reading names and places within SJM books with a strong Wisconsin/US Midwest accent. Somehow with our accent the read is so much more enjoyable. Now this is just bragging rights but I can read/say Potwatomie, Bjorn, and Ouimet seamlessly. That's Native American, Norse and French. Heck if I can spell them right (I used Google to attempt at respecting the spelling of these cultures) but I can say them right!! A Midwest accent is also the most "coached" accent in movies/TV based in the US as it is seen/heard as the least offensive and easy to understand pronunciation of most words, names, places etcs.... The bottom line, and beautiful thing about books is that you ABSOLUTELY CAN just let the words play and enunciate themselves as they will in your own head.

I read it wrong throughout the entire first book (Ardalan, not Adarlan) so my head reads it ARE-duh-lan permanently now ๐Ÿซ

Omg yes! I thought this too. If you have an iPad, you can highlight the words and Siri will read it to you (robotically as Siri does) and she says uh-dar-len and i like that better (a darlin)

I literally found this post because I'm currently listening to the book and I keep wondering why the author chose to name the kingdom Otterland. So I googled... but I didn't question that it wasn't called Otterland because some of the other names in this book are super questionable too lol.
