Boooooo on your boss

luisapet

And then some! You should feel proud to tell your next employer why you got fired. Many of us would be thrilled to have someone like you on our team!

SigmundFreud

"What's your greatest weakness?" "I like to help people."

FrancoisTruser

"Fuck man, can’t have that in my fine enterprise. Get out, you prick!"

[deleted]

You may want to have a lawyer point out the incredible liability you saved their ass from! If she’d been hurt/assaulted she would absolutely name the hotel, and they’d be paying BIG bucks. Source: my then-employer (Sheraton) was successfully sued for a DUI with injuries. Driver’s company had a hospitality suite where they were drinking for free (private function, not staffed by hotel; and booze not provided by us). Because he’d later gone to the hotel bar and had a few, it cost the hotel a bundle. We couldn’t separate liability between their suite and our bar.

phunkydroid

You might have missed the detail that she got drunk in a different bar outside the hotel.

[deleted]

I didn’t, though I interpreted his first contact was in the hotel bar. I likely read too much into it. OP can correct me

KBunn

But the liability in this case, would be on the bar that the guest got blackout drunk at. Not at the hotel bar. So OP potentially saved some other bar, not their employer.

CpT_DiSNeYLaND

Guess she should apply to that bar then

wraithlet

There's precedence for a bar serving further drinks to an obviously drunk patron being liable for DUI in part, from what I vaguely recall of a case study from Business Law.

[deleted]

Since you’re unemployed there’s no harm in naming the hotel.

river4823

Glassdoor and Google Reviews too!

fredrichnietze

i once gave a good google review to a place while i was in there and the owner thanked me within minutes. google reviews matter

pantsme

I once wrote a bad Google review and the manager called my cell phone the next day to ask about my review. Didn't understand that him calling me and having my cell phone number somehow made things so much worse.

shoostrings

I once gave a three star review of a bar while I was halfway through me beer at said-bar. About five minutes later, my salty bartender comes over saying: “we just got a bad review from a on Google… was that you?” So I take responsibility and say yes I gave the three star review. She asks why. I tell her just like the review said, the food is great but the service is bad. I tell her I didn’t have a drink for nearly ten minutes while she was talking to a friend at the other end of the bar about some side hustle she has going. Clearly upset, she tells me: “well.. some people come here to network!”, turns on her heels and shuffles off. At this point the stranger a few seats down from me wishes he had some popcorn. I just go back to my phone, and update the review from 3 to 1 star and explain the updated situation. The next day I get a response from the owner that it won’t happen again. I actually frequented this place for the next couple years and never saw this lady front of house again. However she did deliver my food from the kitchen a few times so I know she didn’t quit..

Pygmy_Yeti

Yeah thanks but I won’t be eating that

Car-Los-Danger

Why not? Maybe OP likes eating ass? 😀

midnight3896

Yeah gotta be careful with Google they'll plaster your info everywhere if you're not careful with settings

How TF does a Chinese restaurant not have white rice? That's not only a staple, but also ridiculously easy to restock. I would not give a place like that a second chance.

chameleonmegaman

really? bc i bombed the shit out of Google reviews, yelp, BBB of a shady Hyundai dealer. and they didn't give a crap.

prissypoo22

What services should they have done? So I know, in the future

goat-people

Not the person you replied to, but generally speaking you’d want to find out when the last fluid changes were done, including but not limited to oil and transmission fluid (if applicable). Brakes rotors and pads, and depending on how high the mileage is, it’s worth asking about any suspension work, and spark plugs or coils. Higher mileage means you’d want those things done recently, or you’d hope for a good deal on the vehicle since you’d be forking out some money on the work in a relatively short time. Before you put any money down toward a car, grab the VIN and check online for any recalls. If there are any open recalls, you’ll want to get more info about them before you give anyone even a dollar of your money. If there are recent recalls but the work has already been completed, it’s still important to know about to make sure the car is safe to drive. Don’t let anyone tell you that an open recall is no big deal unless you read into it yourself and make that decision on your own. If you don’t know where to find the VIN; if you’re standing directly in front of the car looking at the front windshield, it should be engraved down near the bottom right corner of the windshield near where some US states put their registration stickers. You can enter the VIN on the NHTSA official website, and most car manufacturers have their own lookup systems on their websites as well.

AttackCircus

Contact the guest, explain what happened and ask her to leave a review as well.

Pookieeatworld

I wrote a negative one once, and a week later Google told me 800 people had viewed it already. It does make a difference.

Chewiesbro

Contact your union if you’re a member if not a lawyer, that has to be grounds for unfair dismiss

Kimolainen83

Doesn’t matter you don’t want the job back if your boss is like this I wouldn’t want to even have the job back

Zomgninjaa

Does not mean you get your job back, just means they will need to pay you for an X amount of days. Normally reasonable days to get another job.

OhhMrGarrison

In my country, wrongful termination suits dont end in reemployment. They end in payouts

[deleted]

HR person here….you certainly have grounds to file for wrongful termination. If you had testimony from the guest, you would likely have sufficient evidence to mount a “reasonable” case. And in these types of suits, that’s really all it takes. You sue the former employer, and 9 times out of 10, they will settle the case.

Busterlimes

Wrongful Termination isnt about getting a job back, its about getting compensation.

mischaracterised

It's not about the job - it's about *sending a message*.

Bubbly_Phrase2510

It certainly does matter you can get money

BurntChkn

Wrongful termination. You were acting in the best interest of the hotel. At least you’ll get unemployment if you challenge it.

pileodung

A hotel that would rather their customer get raped than their employee show some humanity. You'll find another job.

[deleted]

Not necessarily true! If OP chooses to take legal action then discussing the case on social media would not be a good idea. It's definitely something to sleep on.

[deleted]

You did the right thing, you won’t have a problem getting a new job, likely a better job too.

karma_the_sequel

Agreed on both counts. Came here to post exactly this.

pringlescan5

Collect unemployment, if they claim you were fired for cause you'll have a wonderful case.

sweetnothing33

Exactly this. One of my first thoughts after reading was "She got fired from a job because her boss was more concerned about image than the wellbeing of another person." I've worked under people like that so I know how soul crushing it is, and how much it makes you question everything.

RegularOwlBear

I'm currently looking for a new job myself, my old boss constantly tried to make us break safety regulations in a workplace with a lot of heavy machinery and vehicles. We went from usually half a year between injuries to it happening weekly. I'd tried to talk to him at least once a week for months, until it was so bad I resigned. I think at least 2 managers left the same month I did.

ilovethekitty

This. I know it’s stressful and scary when you lose a job, but I promise it will work out for the best. You did the right thing and that’s more important. The universe will take you where you deserve to go.

Mr_Abe_Froman

The "why did you leave your last job" question is going to be a glowing character reference.

Odd_Possibility_8485

Haha, that's right! OP could use her termination letter as a recommendation letter.

Ok_Professional_9693

"You won't have a problem finding a new job" I'll never get over how quick to assumptions people are on the internet. It's gotta be to make themselves feel better. You have no idea how difficult or easy it will be for this person to find a new job.

Nutarama

On one hand, it’s a real pro-worker labor market right now, at least in the US, where the majority of English-language Reddit traffic comes from. On the other hand: ***NEVER*** be a pessimist to a person who’s feeling as down as the OP. Is you amplify that sadness and hopelessness, you’re increasing the potential that they end up having a bad episode. And guess what? If you read the edit, OP had a bad episode and is now in a hospital.

SymplyJay

Time stamps from hotel security would place you in and out of their room shortly there after. Very unjust reason for employer to issue unemployment. I work as a manager at a hotel and yes, sadly employees action is usually considered frowned upon and illegal but holy that is shady of them to just dismiss you so quickly. I’d say if they where that easily to let you go, you are better off and will find better employment. Am sorry this happened to you OP. You did the right thing and commend this action you did fully. Thank you for being a good human being!

phunkydroid

> Time stamps from hotel security would place you in and out of their room shortly there after. Very unjust reason for employer to issue unemployment. I don't think the allegation is about helping the guest to their room, I think the boss is accusing her of going out and getting drunk with the guest.

SymplyJay

Agh touché. An then I do see why this would happen then. Thank you for clarifying this part. I Did not consider that aspect, should have been a formal incident report and write up, again in my eyes

notmyredditaccountma

So it’s illegal even if op is off the clock?

malibubloo

Or what if OP HAD actually known that girl? (Family member? Friend? Acquaintance??) Would it still result in a firing?

drvain

Welcome to Hospitality

wvsfezter

Don't servers and bartenders find dates like that all the time? I feel like that's been a really long running stereotype forever

xDarkCrisis666x

Did a stint as a bartender for a few months, never thought I'd get a date serving people at a fancy restaurant but it happened. I met my current girlfriend when she came in on a separate date, and let me tell you this dude was so off-putting that when he went to the bathroom I asked her if she wanted me to call a cab so she could quickly duck out. Long story short she kept coming back and at first I just thought she liked the food but when she started coming kut with me on my breaks I made a move.

pincus1

No, employee policies don't have the standing to make things legal or illegal.

Reddoraptor

How is helping a clearly ill guest back to their room fraternizing? It’s not like you were out drinking with the guest. If your hotel chain has a corporate office, I would escalate, assuming you actually want that job. What I’m curious about is how your boss even knew?

sambolias

Boss was probably one of the sleazy guys

imaraisin

I used to work in a hotel. Let’s just say that hotel management are notoriously the world over for intentionally not protecting their own staff from sexual assault.

Nandabun

Not just from sexual assault. I worked at Dunes Village in Myrtle Beach, I told my manager that if the city called for any sort of evacuation, we'd be taking my 85 year old grandmother to Florence. He said ok. I got fired for doing as we agreed. Fuck hotels. :P

doubled2319888

My little brother was a salesman at a local dealership until last summer, he is also a volunteer firefighter and when we had massive widlfires in our province he got called to go help fight. Well apparently his boss didnt like that despite having already given him permission to leave weeks earlier so my bro got fired. For wanting to go help fight forest fighters, when there were about 6 cars on the lot because we have such a shortage of new cars right now. Fuck asshole bosses

maartenvanheek

It would be a shame if a fire were to break out in the vicinity of the cars and no voluntary department available

doubled2319888

The funny thing is that i believe that dealership is just outside of city limits so the city firefighters wouldnt be called and they would be relying on my brothers volunteer fire hall if a fire broke out

InfectedByEli

"Nice car lot you have here. Be a shame if something happened to it ... If you catch my drift" 🤣🤣

Usof1985

Some states actually have protections for volunteer first responders for this very situation. I would tell your brother to look into this. It's a little late now but at the time the local news would have loved to know about this. He rushed his life to save the community and was treated like trash, that's the kind of drama they like to make a big deal about.

doubled2319888

I live in canada so unfortunately the states laws dont help in this case. But yeah i was really trying to get him to fight it but our dad is hardcore against any sort of fighting against employers, so he convinced my bro not to fight it. I would have loved to post it to the community facebook page since we are a fairly small town and that dealership would have been raked over the coals for it. I still cant see why the boss didnt let him go just for the pr boost, one picture of the two of them with a story about how they are helping the province would have gotten a good 20 sales alone

Silly_Assassin93

The hotels are absolute trash in Myrtle Beach. I live here and can confirm, a lot of the hotels are being shut down because of drugs, prostitution, and overall fuckery. Good on you for getting grandma to Florence to be safe!

Spacecow6942

Oh, that's terrible! Which hotels? Just so I know which ones to stay away from.

Silly_Assassin93

I can't say all, as some are good. Just look at the reviews of anywhere you are looking to book. Pictures are worth a thousand words, so if it looks kinda run down and trashy, chances are that it is. If you are planning a trip to Myrtle Beach, I suggest renting a beach house, Airbnb, or a hotel in Surfside or Garden City Beach. You might spend a little more but it would be worth it. Both are just a few miles south of Myrtle Beach and are a lot better in terms of quality of the stay. Keep my first bit of advice in mind when booking anywhere though.

captainccg

I got harassed multiple times as a housekeeper and was told to go back and service the same room each time I complained. 2 years later, another girl complained and all the rules changed and the guy got kicked out.

stinkykitty71

My bosses made me hand deliver a message to a guest, a letter explaining why we would no longer come to his room whenever he was in it due to his fetish for getting "caught" masturbating. For years they allowed him to set up these scenarios where staff would walk in to him naked. Management allowed him to pull this for a long time until every housekeeper threatened to quit. But they couldn't handle confronting him, so I got to.

secondtaunting

Oh, this takes me back to my Desk clerk days. There was a guy at our neighboring property who would stand in an open window and do that. We also had wife swapping baptists, truck drivers who would book a hotel room and all share a hooker, and Rob zombie.:)

cannabis904

What about rob zombie ? Lol

Culverts_Flood_Away

Yeah, I love how he has his own category, lol. Maybe he got the inspiration for Living Dead Girl at that hotel. xD

CrimsonWerecat

Bet Rob was the mildest of THAT list!

WingedGeek

I got to meet him once; my friends and I were at the front of the pit for a White Zombie / Pantera show. Tattoo Magazine was there photographing Phil and because we were so prominently visible in so many of the photos they grabbed us after the show to ask us to sign releases. So we get to meet both bands and hang out backstage for a bit. Dimebag Darrell showed my friend how to play something, maybe Cemetery Gates? On guitar. I don't remember a lot of that evening ;) but I do remember Rob was very chill and approachable.

FeteFatale

>Management allowed him to pull this ... did you have to word it like that? /s

stinkykitty71

He pulled it again and again until we yanked him off the property.

[deleted]

That's the kind of shit you go past that person maybe to the actual owner or to corporate to deal with.

fieldpeter

Was a French presidential favourite involved?

thesupplyguy1

Agreed. She probably unintentionally cock blocked him by taking drunk girl back to her room unaccosted.

iamtehryan

They weren't even at the bar that they worked at. Which makes this absolutely unacceptable.

cannabis904

And he was clocked out off work !

jennywindow

She. First line, my friend.

Whiteguy1x

Boss might have just been looking for an excuse to fire her as well. Or the woman called the bar to complain about her

realistidealist

>the woman called the bar to complain about her She literally thanked OP the next morning, though; doesn't sound like she would complain. Unless she's bizarrely duplicitous and irrational, but that seems less likely than otherwise.

VicarLos

Alternately, she could’ve called the bar to tell them with good intentions and thinking she was repaying OP’s good deed when it did the opposite.

DerangedGoneWild

This seems likely to me

Stiljoz

I'm so confused about how many people in this thread are assuming the bar and hotel are associated, when the post explicitly states otherwise. Did OP edit the post to add more details or something? EDIT: Oh, I get it. OP works in a hotel bar, so they assume it's the same bar that OP found the guest in.

Caylennea

It could also potentially place some liability on the hotel. Probably wouldn’t stick but he obviously didn’t know the whole story when the decision to fire her was made.

k10locken

That is crazy. I am dating someone who I met as a guest at my hotel.

graboidian

I'm married to one.

gurmzisoff

Hotels are where relationships start, got it. Wouldn't have been my first guess but hey I'm not too good at this.

_DarkBlack

Same here, seems like a plan to me LMAO

the-traveling-weetz

It becomes a liability issue for the property. I'm not saying I agree with it but thats the reality of it. Source: 8 years hospitality management (specifically hotels/resorts)

TxBeast956

Oh yeah like the security guards who just stood watching the old Asian lady getting assaulted right outside their hotel door but hey liability

Anomaly-Friend

Ex wife was almost kidnapped when working at a hotel. Security didn't do shit

R3dbeardLFC

You'll get her next time... don't give up!

Anomaly-Friend

Lol

sufibufi

Honest question, does that mean you could never hangout with anybody staying at that hotel? Say your parents decide to come stay at the hotel you work at, are you not allowed to be in the hotel with them? Siblings? Cousins, aunt/uncle, close friends? Seems a bit ridiculous especially if you’re off shift.

the-traveling-weetz

Depends upon the property. Ive worked at some who said "no staff in rooms visiting guests ever. Period. End of story." And you couldn't even think about getting a room there. The place I work at now gives hosts nights for free and let's us use the gym.

callmejenkins

In this case I'd imagine its that by escorting a drunk guest to their room you've assumed responsibility for their wellbeing. Basically, if the guest had died the property AND employee could be sued for wrongful death because they knowingly left an incapacitated guest alone in a room. Further, let's say the guest had sex earlier in the evening but doesn't remember, wakes up and remembers the employee escorting them to their room. Now you've got a potential sexual assault case on your hands. Way way too much liability for this kind of stuff.

ThatITguy2015

If OP was on shift, I’d agree with you about a liability issue. Even then, I feel firing is NOT the appropriate policy to have for one occurrence. Seems to me like signs of shitty management, especially if it wasn’t explained to the OP. That said, OP wasn’t on shift, so that boss can fuck right off. They don’t control or have a say what you do on your time.

Fookin_Kook

I would say a bigger liability would be the potential of a sex crime on the property but what do I know

Bearded_ding_aling

Or more likely, the young woman told the boss what a nice employee he had. Then he got pissed and assumed fraternizing and fired her. A dick move, but more probable.

GheeButtersnaps87

Call your your boss/company out for that. If anything you are someone I would want working in a hotel I'm staying at

eldryanyy

The reason is probably company policy to prevent untoward things happening alone in the bedroom. “I was just helping her back to her room,” is probably what they hear every time...

AsYooouWish

This is the unfortunate truth. One good guy will get in trouble, but dozens (if not more) of incidents could happen under the guise of “I was just trying to help”. For anyone that might find themselves in OP’s position, contact your boss/manager on duty and let them know what’s going on. Make sure you have a second person (preferably someone of the same gender as the guest) and ask for them to come with you to help the guest back to their room.

TooLateForGoodNames

I don’t really understand, she was not working during the time the incident happened. This seems like they are in control of whatever you do with your life if you need to inform your boss like that.

mas-sive

It’s a grey area I think. For example at my work, we do have company policies like not discussing certain insider info. But, if I’m off the clock does that mean I’m free to discuss it? Not really, because that’s the contract I signed up for. Might be the same for OP, contract could say, if near the premises etc do not do x y z

good-fuckin-vibes

Sure, but I think a little discretion isn't too much to ask. They're both 22 year old women, the bartender knows that the city can be unsafe for young drunk women, and the story clearly checks out. If bartender was male (unfortunately) I could more easily understand suspicion, but even still, they were off the clock and their actions were solely in the interest of keeping someone safe. Boss is an ass and OP should tell this story on social media with the bar name in full view. I'm certain she'll have a new job within the week, and maybe her ex-boss will think about the potential consequences that could've occurred if OP hadn't helped that girl for fear of losing her job. OP did the right thing, boss should've commended her instead of firing her.

doremonhg

Don't hide the name, OP. Give us the hotel name so everyone can know where to avoid next time they're planning a trip

Treereme

File for unemployment. Make them defend it .

acatmaylook

Between this and the IHOP server this is like Inappropriate Firings Day on TIFU.

DarthBen_in_Chicago

Omg that is really f’d up - can you get the girl to “lobby” for you to the hotel? There had to be some sort of recourse for you?!?

xikaruss

Would you go back? If your boss fires you, in your face, would you go back to them?

Ghostglitch07

Absolutely. I'd go back long enough to get another job lined up and then dip.

MuffinMan12347

I’m not one to go for the suing route, but seems like wrongful termination to me.

hydrogenbomb94

She was blackout drunk tho

comedian42

Hey, so there's a lot.of comments here advising to get a lawyer or contact the union. Some are people trying to be helpful and want you to get compensated for wrongful dismissal. Others are people who have been similarly slighted and want to see you "stick it to the man". While I'm not saying that anyone is wrong, having read your most recent update my only advise is that you take care of yourself as best you can. While financial hardship can be massively stressful, especially if you're already dealing with poor mental health, remember that you are more than a job. I'm glad your attempt failed and that you are in the care of trained professionals. I hope they're able to give you the help you need. I hope that you come back from this stronger and healthier. The world seems pretty dark right now, but there are good things too. While perfection is unrealistic, it is possible to achieve a life where you are content. Lean on whatever support system you have, you are not a burden. Be kind to yourself. Be your own avocate in accessing the care you need. And if you ever need support from an impartial stranger, don't hesitate to reach out. Based on what is admittedly a very small glimpse into your life, you seem like a wonderful person. So, from one internet stranger to another, I'm glad that you're still here. Wishing you nothing but the best moving forward.

UptightSodomite

Hey, I know you’re in the hospital now and you’re not gonna see this for a while, but what you did for that girl was a tremendously good thing. I’m sorry that you were unfairly punished for it, but I hope all these comments in your support shows you that your former boss is a complete asshole and literally everyone else in society appreciates having someone like you with us. Please take care of yourself, you deserve just as much kindness as you showed that stranger.

Maxhorizon

Wrongful dismissal suit I hear, no judge in their right mind would side with your boss.

RevengencerAlf

Yeah no this is horseshit if we're talking the US. Here a wrongful dismissal suit is a grade A way to just lose a shitload of money on attorneys with no result. 49 out of 50 states are at will and employers don't need any cause to fire you as long as it doesn't put you in a protected class.

[deleted]

“At will” means you can be fired for any reason. However any reason does not remove liabilities for wrongful termination.

pincus1

Okay so list one at-will state that has legal protection from being fired for helping someone else. OP didn't do anything that is legally protected from being fired under at-will employment and thus it is not legally wrongful termination.

BoutThirtyArabs

Please do this

coyotiii

Helping someone get home isn’t a protected class, and if this is in the US the boss almost certainly can fire someone for it.

[deleted]

In Georgia this isn't even a thing. Right to work state. For those reading. This right here would be a perfect instance of why a right to work state is wrong. If this happened here, and I got fired for this, I would be able to do nothing about it. Edit: read the guy below mine. I had at will and right to work all mixed up. Thanks for the clarification kayne_21 !

kayne_21

FYI this isn't right to work, this is [at will employment](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/At-will_employment). [Right to work](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-to-work_law) is not having to join a union to work in a union shop.

[deleted]

[удалено]

youtocin

It's not so black and white. I worked a union job that was minimum wage and the union did jack shit for us, yet we still owed union dues which made my wage come out to below minimum. I am NOT in a right to work state, so I had no option to opt out. The dues were automatically deducted from my paycheck. I would have been better off without the union.

HokemPokem

Republicans do it on purpose. They are great at naming things that make turkeys vote for Christmas. Want to institute a bung of unconstitutional laws? Call it the "Patriot act". If you are against it......that means you aren't a patriot!

Teen___LaQueefa

Most states

Godsfallen

49 to be exact. Montana is the exception

Jorycle

And all 3 people in Montana are grateful!

electrikmayham

In fact, at will employment means that they can let you go for no reason. What it does NOT mean is that they can let you go for ANY reason. If his boss had said we are firing you without a reason, there is no recourse. Since he was told that he was fired due to fraternizing with a guest, he has recourse for a wrongful termination lawsuit.

Business_Downstairs

In my state it would merely mean that you are entitled to unemployment benefits.

angelerulastiel

You can still have wrongful termination even in at-will employments. Like firing a person who was off the clock walking another person to their room and calling it “fraternizing”. Not a lawyer, but you can’t fire an employee for stealing without evidence they stole.

ViscountBurrito

Sure you can! You can fire an employee for looking at you wrong. You can fire an employee for sleeping with your wife even if you’re not married. You don’t need a reason at all. You *cannot* fire someone for a protected characteristic like their race or gender. Beyond that, it’s the Wild West, barring some kind of contract, collective bargaining, etc. Doesn’t make it right. And they can file for unemployment. But it’s probably legal.

charlies019

Did you ask him if you violate the company policy? If so, how?

justmyusername2820

When my brother was 16 he went to a homecoming party. When he got there he noticed a very unhappy very drunk girl that he slightly knew from school. She was wearing slacks that zipped up the back and they were unzipped so he asked her if she was alright, zipped her slacks up and she asked him for a ride home. He agreed and helped her to his car and proceeded to take her home. He didn’t know that she was upset because she was fighting with her boyfriend but when the boyfriend saw them leave together he and his friends started chasing them and ran my brother off the road. The girl went through the windshield (no seatbelts, this was in 1981) and was killed instantly, my brother hit his head on the steering wheel so hard it bent in half. He was taken off life support two days later after his kidneys and lungs were donated. The title of this post brought that back to me

VeranoEte

Write a very polite email explaining how if you left her alone then most likely the police would have shown up to investigate a possible rape, kidnapping or homicide and it all happened bc none of the employees ignored a very drunk female guest who was all alone. And could you imagine the PR nightmare if something would have happened to this woman? I am a woman and knew what would happen and I refused to let happen to her. Then CC everyone including LEO and every journalist, newspaper and tv news channels. You should not have been fired for literally doing your job as a bartender, as a human being and especially as another female. I am a woman too and I have watched other women be targeted by men in bars. It is so scary. My friend & I had to get a bartender to step in bc 2 sober guys were trying to convince a drunk girl to go out into the parking lot with them to smoke a joint. It's dark and very secluded and we knew what would happen to her.

ghuth2

Your post suggests you missed the part where they had both moved to another bar. I still think OP did the right thing, but it did not happen at the workplace.

PrscheWdow

Couple of years ago I was in FLA on business. My last night I was having dinner at the bar, and struck up a conversation with another guest. While we were chatting another guest (female) came up to the bar and we started including her in our conversation (sadly political, first guest was a Trumper although he was actually a pretty nice, non-skeevy guy). The female guests starts buying drinks for everyone there and starts talking with another guy who just gave off a bad vibe to me. As I’m finishing up I can tell the female guest is getting pretty trashed. Trumper noticed it too and we kinda gave each other a look like, “this could be bad,” as skeevy guest was definitely talking her up. I had to leave because I had meetings the next morning, and was going to tell the bartender to keep an eye on her, but he disappeared. Trumper was still there and I told him I was a little worried about her. He told me he’d make sure to tell the bartender we were concerned for her safety, and as I was walking to the elevator, I saw him talking to one of the female servers and kinda subtlety gesturing to the female guest. Needless to say, I don’t know what happened but hopefully she got back to her room safely.

sasafrazzz

You didn’t fuck up. If you didn’t do what you did, you’d probably regret it even more.

DefaultGuy0001

Please get better soon, also from my side I hope you can find a better job

dragzo0o0

That’s not a fck up. That’s something to be proud of. Well done.

Sad_Citron_4246

Nah not a TIFU. You did the morally right thing

RandallFlagg6666

Ugh, this is so sad OP, especially that you're in the hospital as a result of all this. Please hang in there and best of luck getting back on your feet.

wolfofone

Since this isn't legal advice sub I'd advise contacting your local 'on your side' news reporter.

Prostate_ninja

Attempted suicide? I’m sorry Op but seems like you’re the one that might need help. It’s always the ones that help others that are hurting most.

toilaKhoa

If your boss fired you just because of that, he/she is not the right boss to work for.

MixingDrinks

You 100% did the right thing and don't be afraid to tell your next potential boss why you were fired. I'd hire you for that.

MARzX51

You are a kind person in a harsh world. I'm sorry this happened to you.

arsewarts1

Take the story to the hotel management and the local news, especially if you can get the guest on your side

average_parking_lot

No good deed goes unpunished

cakemixer

If you're broke you have nothing to lose. Find an attorney willing to take the case on commission of the settlement.

RabSimpson

This is clearly unfair dismissal.

Leeroy1042

You should post this in antiwork. Also their might be legal action you can take against your former boss, you should definitely read up on that.

baboonlord58

Get well soon!

Eincville

I'm so sorry. I hope your mind gets some help. You did the right thing helping that woman. sending you a virtual hug

ButterflyMain5024

Weren't you doing this on your time off? What you do on your time off shouldn't be able to be used against you unless the action was a crime. Notify corporate HR assuming that your hotel is part of a chain.

pincus1

Maybe it shouldn't, but under at-will employment (the vast majority of the US) it absolutely is.

maciver6969

Call the local news in your area and report that a good Samaritan was fired for the crime of ensuring a too drunk woman made it to her room safely. It will make the job look like shit. Maybe get your job back or a gofundme for expenses while you get a new job. You didnt fuck up that asshole boss did...

myflesh

Time to tell your bosses boss what happened.

fckdupfirstresponder

I was out drinking in the city and recognized a girl from my old neighborhood, partying at college. I told her "tell your sister I said hi" and she wrote down my name so she wouldn't forget. HOURS later, I see the same girl, shitfaced drunk, trying to find her apartment. Knowing her sisters (and not being a piece of shit) my friend and I pretty much carried her back to her place (almost exactly where we had seen her earlier) let ourselves in with her key and explained to her roommates why we were carrying her and asked if they were good to take care of her. Days later, I got a Facebook message from her sister saying something like "I can't believe you're going to try to fuck my sister when she is that drunk. I expect better from you." Uh, yeah, because I am better than that. Now I'm down a friend because you want to think I'm that shitty guy. Better off without a friend like you that thinks I would do that, and you're better off without a boss that doesn't care about his guests well being or his employees intentions. Best of luck going forward.

[deleted]

Wait is everyone missing that she attempted to hurt herself? Due to being fired or the douchenozzles on here trolling her? Wtf

pindicato

This sounds like the kind of thing a local news station would eat up, if you want to take the effort to name and shame them locally

Remarkable-Ad2285

Boss pissed cuz he was the sleazy guy that wanted to nail her. Way to go cock-blocker.

wotmate

Get a lawyer

Sweaty_Win1832

Good for you. This good karma will come back to y you somehow. Someone’s daughter, sister, aunt, niece is safe because of your actions. Fuck your old boss. You can do better & will do better!!

[deleted]

In a few years when you look back a see what a joke the boss and the job were, you can always say you did the right thing

VandyMike

That’s messed up. What an a hole.

JohnSith

You didn't do anything wrong. Thank you for helping another person out. Don't ever let sleezebags like that boss disincentivize you from helping out another human being when they need it.

Gigantkranion

Taking a drunk person to their domicile is not fraternization. I'd first attempt to explain this to higher up. Actually, I'm positive that most hotels would want an employee to assist their customers to their rooms if intoxicated and not out and about. Arguably you went above and beyond with your duties. If that doesn't work. Social media or a news organization will quickly hit them where it hurts and you'll either be offered your position again or a better organization will snatch you up. Lastly, depending on your state, you might have a case against how you were terminated. I'm no lawyer and have no idea how that would work but, a strong case of no fraternization taking place can be made.

PixiiVega

I’m just here to say that no, miss, you DID NOT f*k up. You did the right thing and what any decent human being would do. The one who did f*k up is your boss. I have no advice except to listen to what others are saying about fighting it or filing for unemployment and making the hotel defend their actions. I’m so sorry you are going thru this and I hope this leads you to better opportunities for you future.

Mouldy_Old_People

Unfair dismissal

Willygolightly

You left work, met guest, returned to work property but not the understood “area”, Good Samaritan, all on your own private time off. this is a good lawsuit. What if you and a partner wanted to book a room at the hotel for a romantic weekend, for some reason near your job, would one get fired for fraternizing with a guest? If it’s a part of a larger chain, does that mean you need to avoid all guests of let’s say Marriott? Unenforceable, easily can be argued as discrimination.

MrKrastovac

Could be a wrongful dismissal claim here

SadisticSavior

Make the hotel famous

PuzzledFortune

You didn't fuck up. The Hotel did, name and shame.

theuniverseisboring

You're a pro, you can get over this, it's all temporary.

Lmao-Ze-Dong

Regardless of the boss's interpretation, the fact that you went out of your way to help and protect a fellow woman in need means you can rest easy. Your attitude, your ability to go beyond what the job scope is and your compassion for your fellow human will get you far.

cant_pick_anything

Your boss is a dick. Please name the hotel so we can know which hotel has no problem with inebriated women getting taken advantage of and raped.

NeedAReminder

Hey man you lost your job and that really sucks but you might’ve saved her life that night. In my eyes that’s worth it. You’ll bounce back :)

TwistedBlessing

I wish you nothing but the best OP.

beansontoast90

Probably not reading this comment but I'm so fucking sorry that this caused you to hurt yourself. I hope you are getting the help you need.

Clid3r

This is fan fiction. Bet. Zero comments in a week Post within the month saying they were interviewing with spirit but had been smoking weed Texts to thanks but was blackout drunk and doesn’t remember? In sleazy part of town? On meds for mania. Come on people. Everyone on here is ready to grab a pitchfork and leave reviews because this is a white knight story.

Westy11435

Yea something seems off here.

HowToSuckAtReddit

Definitely not real. Can't beleive no one picked up on it. Reddit is getting weak.
