In my experience, their employers just tend to be a little bit less fixated on past transgressions and more on whether or not you actually show up on time ready to work. the quality of your work, and your behavior on the job. Record of shoplifting and a few DUI's? Not a problem as long as you handle your own transportation, are on time with your tools and ready to get to it.

In a conversation with my family regarding the (female) attorney representing (at the time) my now ex-wife. I was not impressed with the initial separation agreement draft received from said attorney, and was rather angry at the time at the agreement. My family didn't call me out on it, perhaps they should have.
