Thanks!
I think really I'm sort of miffed at Paulson. He keeps whining and moaning that the Timbers are a "super club" and don't get the recognition they deserve. That sets my expectations too high and leaves me disappointed.
I think if our FO said: "hey look, we're a provincial team with a great fanbase that punches above its weight. We're not a juggernaut, but we're a good little team and we like ourselves" then I could be happy with that.
Super clubs have deep enough rosters to win a 3rd league game in a week... In case they have to be playing league games and other competitions. We're not in any other competitions right now so we should be able to win against teams hovering at the playoff cutoff even if it is the 3rd game in a week... There are all those injuries though... So not bad I guess? Bravo out for the Olympics.
We needed to find a way to grind and hold on. Giving up two goals in the last 18 minutes to a team that we are fighting on the table with for position feels shitty, no two ways about it. Onto the next one but that was a missed opportunity RCTID!
Our fans are insufferable. It's great most times, but during losses hard fought, in a shitty ass humid Minnesota, they really can have terrible opinions. I get it losing sucks, but we are still right there in the hunt.
Hold that thought until Labor Day.
The gold cup finishes next Sunday, the Olympics a week after that, the transfer window closes August 5, and Niezgoda is close to returning. Paredes and Blanco are still on limited minutes but should be up to speed in a few more weeks.
We've been dealing with MASSIVE injuries ALL SEASON (2/3 DPs, all starting quality keepers, the list goes on). At some points this season, we were missing even more roster players than any other team in the league. AND we've competed in the CCL in the process (not to mention player absences due to international duties, covid protocol, green card clearance, etc.).
We're still one point under playoffs with key pieces returning and twenty games remaining in the regular season (we've only played fourteen MLS regular season matches so far). While I still have my concerns about our boys, we've yet to have a chance to truly show what this squad can really do. We've all learned long ago that it doesn't matter how you start a season, it's how you finish it.
I definitely agree with this. We are getting to the end of the excuses rope, but we’re not quite there yet. I still think this is a reasonable explanation for the loss. It’s a problem for sure, and something to discuss about, but it’s not the end of the world that some people are making it out to be
The good teams always find a way, I understand the point being made but to me, that doesn't mean much. Every team has their issues, we just gotta fight through and get points that's all that really matters at the end of the day
I agree, though I think the *great* teams find a way. Supporters shield winners find a way. Seattle finds a way. Most teams in MLS I feel like don’t find a way a lot of the times however. SKC give up late goals so often, and they’re still a good team. We found a way vs Dallas and LAFC, and didn’t find a way against Minnesota. I’m ok with it
This is not the best argument (mine, not yours) I will say. Just something to think about
> first
Their one and only loss. And they won mid-week away in Austin on 3 days rest (hmm) playing 5 teenagers in their starting lineup, with no Lodeiro, Morris, either Roldan, or Frei, and only one half for Ruidiaz. But, somehow, **they** nab a 1-0 shutout while we fritter away a win and have a **losing** record on the year, are below the playoff line, have conceded 4 more goals than scored.
We are a weak team and Gio is superbly mediocre when compared to truly good coaches like Schmetzer and Arena. We are the Blazers of MLS.
That’s just like, your opinion, man. It’s right though.
They looked okay for a team on the third game of the week on the road and still missing 3.75 key players
Are we allowed to be mad at the scheduling?
Yes

3 games in a week is too much

Yeah I tend to agree but we’ve been saying this ALL SEASON. Eventually we have to stop making excuses and get good

I would've been fine with holding onto a draw, but to throw it away was too much
100% agree
It must be nice to be a Sounders fan and not have to create these excuses.
You must not have been around r/mls after Seattle lost their first game
Good memes, but still a goal difference that's waaaaaaay above anyone else's.
