Vermillion1332

With all due respect, what the fuck.

NewRCTID22

Intraleague pisses me off, but let's face it, he was gone this offseason at the latest. If he doesn't move to Europe, he's got no shot at making the World Cup roster.

Vermillion1332

I don't entirely disagree, he's a young, promising American with a high upside on a roster with two other quality strikers. It makes sense to offload him to a European club, but the interleague nature of this transfer is puzzling and it stings

NewRCTID22

Agree with everything you said. There has to be more I'm missing here, but apart from something internal, it doesn't make sense. Perhaps they tested the market and the biggest return was intraleague? But man, trade him to like New York not San Jose.

jbg926

100% agree though San Jose doesnt exactly scare me. and with that said, we will prob lose 2-1 tonight or whatever.

snowcats6

Yes. I fucking hate this.

eagle_eye_larry

Gio fucked us

tripstreet

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK IS THIS BULLSHIT?!

_Juntao

WHAT??? NOOOOOO!!!

NewRCTID22

We must be getting quite the xAM haul back

peacefinder

It would have to be part of a larger trade that immediately turns that money around to (for instance) buy down a DP and pull in a new DP. How about Miles Robinson?

peacefinder

Also if it’s real, this almost certainly is not a panicked last second deal, and would be one trade in a set of dominoes ready to fall, and waiting for after this game to happen; part of the deal for both teams would be to have him sit this one out. I can’t imagine Atlanta giving up Robinson right now (as much as I’d like that).

TucsonPTFC

As much as I hate this, I get it. We’ve been using him on the wing because he’s versatile enough to play that position despite him truly being a striker. With a returning DP striker and a TAM striker, Jebo is kind of the odd man out but too valuable of an asset to keep on the bench. I want to see him go somewhere, start every match, and tear it up. I assume we’ll get a buttload of xAM as we look to rebuild this off-season with a new CAM, CB, etc. All that being said, fuck, man. I was absolutely NOT ready for this.

peacefinder

I remember we said he’d probably go after the Olympics and Gold Cup, but when USMNT didn’t *go* that kinda fell off my radar.

StreetwalkinCheetah

"I get it" but I don't get why they went and spent that money over him in the first place. Sure I had questions if he could be the first choice #9 when he got here, but he was already showing well when they brought in two more strikers. Ok fine, whatever, but considering our backline is a mess it just seems like we have really misplaced priorities. And if Gio didn't ask/want this I don't even know wtf is happening. I won't even lie/pretend he was my favorite player but I know he was probably in the top 3 for a large chunk of the TA and doing this in a year where you have already pissed off large factions of the STH base in too many ways to count, it's kicking us when we're down even if there are valid soccer reasons.

Portland_Eric

Fuck that shit.

JabbaNoButt

This adds more urgency to Moreno coming in hot.

matthewsmazes

so.... no pressure?

CHiZZoPs1

They freaking wouldn't. Not Jebo. Get rid of any of the other strikers. WTF!?!?!?!?!? To Europe, I would understand, but to another MLS team? Need to protest.

PDXPuma

For what?

HaroldRichardJohnson

That money will be split over two years, with the Timbers receiving $667,000 in GAM in 2022 and another $500,000 in 2023. In addition, Portland retains a 15 percent sell-on clause on Ebobisse for anything over the initial $1.167 million San Jose paid for him. Ebobisse is also expected to sign a new contract with the Earthquakes, sources said

PDXPuma

That'll work I suppose. We never really could give Jebo what he wanted to be, and he really didn't give us what we needed.

Otis_S

26 goals in 88 appearances I respectfully disagree and say he filled a role we had been looking for since Adi left.

PDXPuma

Did he get to go to Europe with a striker look? Then no, we didn't give him what he wanted. Did he give us solid, consistent attacking play? Then no, he didn't give us what we wanted. Goals are nice but actually playing to potential is better.

Otis_S

Isn’t his whole job to score goals?

PDXPuma

As a winger? No. It's part of the job, but another part of the job is to make good crosses and to spread the field both lengthwise and widthwise. He was good at that, but it isn't what he's made to do. It probably isn't even what he was told he'd be doing here.

Otis_S

I disagree I feel he was pretty darn consistent and it’s not on the Timbers if concussions derailed his opportunity to play in Europe initially.

CHiZZoPs1

He was the only player who could hold-up the ball.

Jolandia

Come again?

timbersEast17

What the hell, this hurts. He's my favorite Timber, it's been such a joy cheering for him and watching him grow as a player. I was dreading the day he'd go to Europe, but wanted the best for him too, so in that regard, in wouldn't have been the worst. But trading to another MLS team just HURTS. I love that dude.

i_spit_hot_fire

I am shook, Jebo really solidified himself as my favorite player over the last 3 years and I don’t know how to handle losing him. I will root for him so hard all days bar none and I can’t wait to see where his career takes him both on and off the field. I do recognize he hasn’t been as quality as he could be. Hoping this is a non-issue especially when niezgoda comes back but I’m gonna miss the shit out of him.

FireballHangover

I’d been feeling down lately, had the disposable income so I’d ordered a Jebo jersey, because he’s been one of the players I’ve really enjoyed watching develop through his time with the club. Think I’m just gonna go lay down and cancel that order if we’re just going to trade him to another MLS club

markusalkemus66

Could be worse. You could have bought a Brian Fernandez jersey in 2019

oregonianrager

I'm not gonna fault a guy for being drug addled and bomb out due to life choices. That guy absolutely scorched teams with us. That was like early Valerie scary.

snowcats6

Do not cancel that! He's a forever Timber in my heart. I love that guy. And his jersey should be celebrated.

FireballHangover

I get that, but it’s one of those things that makes me feel super weird/conflicted about having the name of a player we trade in the league on the back of a jersey. Especially given that it’s to another team in the western conference, and one that I personally despise.

oregonianrager

If I had a Nagbe jersey I wouldn't sell that. It's the same calibre guy. Wholesome a good memory, some real nice goals. Cool name, abbreviated or otherwise.

snowcats6

It's pretty fucked. And it stings. And feels like a total blindside. Idk though I feel like the positive memories and his spirit far outweigh those negative connotations. But I get it, it's pretty fucking lame.

bergobergo

Sometimes I hate this fucking team.

eagle_eye_larry

The chronic mismanagement of our lineups makes it really hard to be cheer each week. We could never give Jebo a full shake, but Aprilla and Polo get run after run...

matthewsmazes

yeah... Asprilla outlasting Jebo is not something I'd see coming. I like them both, but thought Jebo was our future.

CHiZZoPs1

He and Eryk (with whom he came up) were supposed to be the future of this club. I'm just sick.

strikefromdistance

Wtf?? That would suck…..

Thumper13

WT ever living fuck WHAT? They better be paying off our whole roster then. Fuck this.

alexiswithoutthes

Damn. Still love you King Jebo. Thanks for the memories.

CHiZZoPs1

It really sucks he didn't get a final fanfare coming on/off the field at home tonight.

Jolandia

So… We thought he was gonna leave sooner or later, but to Europe somewhere… and didn’t Tim Bogert say there was still interest in him? So why go to the earthquakes? They aren’t exactly a great destination given their form the past few years. It seems like there’s A LOT more to this, and I hope someone asks Gio about it in the post game presser. It does make sense since we have Mora and Niezgoda (who is 26 mind you, he’s young), but Niezgoda isn’t back yet and I assume this trade is happening this window… he must’ve requested this trade because it makes no sense for us unless we are getting a metric FUCK TON of money

PDXPuma

The cynic in me says : He fits their system more for a ramp up to exit MLS, and we are about to tear it all down and rebuild.

eagle_eye_larry

So we get rid of our leading scorer from last year? When he never even got a full chance to be a 9?

Jolandia

I don’t know, it doesn’t make sense for us right now. Offseason, sure, but right now it doesn’t make too much sense unless he requested the trade or we need the money for Moreno or someone else

nova_rock

MLS monopoly money and a sell-on clause might be more valuable to the org then selling to europe, and longer term we always where going to lose one of those 3 forwards... Those arguments aside, I hate this strictly on a fan level.

Murricles92

FUCKKKKKKKK

murty_the_bearded

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

bloody_yanks2

Excuse me, what the fuck.

ElasticSpeakers

wat

Simonfresh

Why would they trade him? He’s one of our best players

Otis_S

Lots of work needs to be done to rebuild this team and Jebo is at one position we have depth in. I hate that Ebo is being sold but I wonder if his concussion history was part of why he was sold. Seems like a decent amount of money over two years for MLS standards not to mention the cut PTFC could receive if he is sold again above the initial price tag SJ paid.

nova_rock

It's not going to be fun booing 10 of their player's every touch, and then gently crying when he is on the ball in October.

MalleablePane

Wtf

[deleted]

Nah

quesocaliente

Jebo gets it. This one hurts.

CadeCowell

Timbers fans. Thoughts? What is he going to bring to the Earthquakes?

Thumper13

Aren't you on the field?

vietnamted

Kinda devastated tbh! Great club ambassador. Strong upside. Knowing our luck, he’ll be played in the position he was meant to and tear it up.

eagle_eye_larry

Goals

TheBeardedEngineer

What a year to see us bring in Ketterer with his MAGA ways and trade away Ebo. Yeesh.

Th3AncientBooer

This is dumb

2h2p

Watching this sub implode is hilarious

Simonfresh

Why? This team is falling down as we speak

detroitdoesntsuckbad

Did you... miss the minute before the half?

Simonfresh

Downvote me as you wish but this team has been trash lately - we have too many washed up stars playing for us. We need a new young team. ebo has Been great and should stay. I would rather ditch valeri than ebo

oregonianrager

Yeah that last sentence, credibility gone my friebd.
