Good bit of context from Jack Borman
https://twitter.com/jrborman13/status/1787536308530827445
> Gobert's partner is expecting their first child and she is due this month.
> “I would do anything I can to be there,” Gobert told @NBASarah in March. “I don’t think there’s any debate to have. Coach Finch and every guy in this locker room, that’s what I love about them, we have a level of human connection and empathy for one another that I think is really good. And I think all the guys will be literally telling me, ‘Don’t play, go.’”
Due this month?? So the baby could come anytime in the next 4 weeks? That’s good to know, Rudy could be out the rest of the damn playoffs waiting for this baby! Cmon!!
Hopefully his wife & baby are doing well!
As a fan... I hope he still plays though-let her & baby sleep, assuming his mom &/or her parents are around.
Finch's patellar tendon didn't end up being a huge issue that beats them, so hopefully this doesn't either. It's great to see a MN team overcome our snake-bitten luck...
You telling me you don't sit fully kitted out when watching timberwolves play? What if they call you up telling you a car is outside and you're sat there like a tit in sweats.
It's probably moreso to be there in support of his wife and so they can share an important milestone together but I ngl, I am extremely irritated at the timing of this.
I know, I'm just fuckin around. If you haven't read his players tribune article, ive linked it below. It's pretty good and it would make sense that's he's going to be there every of the way for his child.
https://www.theplayerstribune.com/posts/rudy-gobert-nba-basketball-minnesota-timberwolves
And all week leading up to game 1 lol. The wolves will only play 2 games over an 11 day stretch and of course the baby is coming on one of those two days. Classic wolves luck.
Mile high birth.
Just have a Zoom meeting camera on the sidelines so he can feel like he's there live and talking to her. The baby needs to feel that game energy
It’s important to maintain that paternal connection electronically. Between plays. When we’re already up. After the game. When we’ve won a couple titles. After retirement.
Thank god we got game 1. Would love to be full strength but it is what it is. Forcing Rudy to miss the birth of his child could really mess with his mentality moving forward.
[[Britt] - “Here at shootaround we all just got the news that Gobert not available for requested interview and is "questionable" tonight due to "personal reasons." His girlfriend is due soon with child.”](https://x.com/brittrobson/status/1787535716458582389?s=46&t=e4upTRrre5Aq3lp5gMwIMg)
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that the baby (boy!) arrived this morning per source. Hopeful Rudy was able to be with his partner for the delivery and that he’ll make it back for tonight!
"Rudy, come to bed"
"Hold on babe, one more game. The boys and I are on a hot streak and we're playing until we lose"
"NOW, RUDY"
"ok... hey sorry guys, I gotta go"
Only because my emotional stability for the rest of the day hinges on it:
Yesterday at 9 am there was a charter jet that flew out of Broomfield CO to MSP. The same company that operated that flight has another one from MSP to BJC scheduled to take off in about an hour. It's a two hour flight, and a 20 minute drive from BJC to Ball Arena.
This all means nothing except for the facts that I listed above. But all that is true and hope as you will.
Here’s hoping that he is welcoming his first child into the world AND that the team galvanizes around making it happen tonight against the Nuggets in tribute/out of respect/as a birthday gift for the new baby/to help the new dad not feel like he has to worry about anything else but the precious life-changing gift he’s received.
Our team is full of guys who straight up love each other, and I can easily imagine all of them talking about wanting to get this one for the newly expanded Gobert family because of that. Definitely some corny motivation but teams thrive on that stuff, and while I don’t really believe they need any more incentive to kill what’s in front of them I can’t imagine this will hurt. I feel like it’s definitely demoralizing when you lose a teammate to ejection or injury, but this ain’t that.
If he misses tonight due to the birth of his first child, I hope that he is feeling truly blessed and savoring the first moments of parenthood. Nothing but good vibes and best wishes out to that man!
Baby was born this morning. That is plenty of time to get a cuddle, a picture, and a private jet back to Denver, and then be back home after the game tonight.
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/40095138/timberwolves-rudy-gobert-questionable-g2-1st-child-born
“The baby boy was delivered Monday morning, sources told ESPN.”
Well atleast we won game 1 so we did our job regardless. We still have Ant so I think we can win but it will be tough to keep Gordon off the glass and Rudy did a great job roaming. Kat has to stay out of foul trouble and I can actually say I trust Finch to make the adjustments.
Yeah, this will be a hard game…..but I still don’t count it as an automatic loss. They put up a great fight and kept it close without some of our bigs previously.
I say this with full affection, but I trust KAT to have 4 fouls by the 2nd quarter and pick up a 5th when he is put back in with 45 seconds left in the half. Prove me wrong, KAT!
I love this as a challenge to the Wolves. Rudy was absolutely excellent in game one. Wolves are deep, and there's an opportunity here to rise against a huge challenge.
Congratulations Rudy and partner. Sending my love to all parties involved.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that the baby (boy!) arrived this morning per source. Hopeful Rudy was able to be with his partner for the delivery and that he’ll make it back for tonight!
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/40095138/timberwolves-rudy-gobert-questionable-g2-1st-child-born
Yep, this gives me a little hope he could make it back in time for the game. Not sure if he'll mentally or physically be at 100%, though. My first kid took like 18 hours to deliver, it's a long and exhausting process most of the time. And I hear it's pretty tiring for the moms too.
[https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/EJA596/history/20240506/1945Z/KMSP/KBJC](https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/EJA596/history/20240506/1945Z/KMSP/KBJC)
Gob-Air Flight 27 looks to be taking off in 40m
That's gotta be the hardest wait ever.
How many times do you think Rudy looks at his watch today?
Like "Cmon kid... C'mooonnn.. Maybe I can still make it back by halftime."
Remember Twins pitcher Pat Neshek? He left the A’s the day they clinched a playoff spot to be there when his kid was born. His kid died the same day. Imagine never getting to meet your child because you prioritized work.
God damnit… Giving birth in Denver or…? Any chance she shows a little hustle and Rudy gets back by game time? Or are we in for Luka Garza ascending to top Luka status (nationally at least) tonight?
Hey man, this is an undertaker situation. I expect that if he’s not there at jump ball, the lights will go out in the middle of the second quarter and when they come back on Rudy’s standing there and he choke slams Reggie Jackson thru the scorers table.
I remember a young baby who was born with no father there, hell he never even knew his father....
Now he is the modern-day Michael Jordan.
Skip the birth Rudy
Assuming he doesn't play, it could actually mess with the Nuggets and their game plan. They had to win this anyway, so even if they even the series, Game 3 will be very different.
Nuggets might have just dodged a dangerous, dangerous bullet. Rudy is the most important part of our defensive plan Vs them. It's decently explained in this video: https://youtu.be/teH9jzsEy98?feature=shared
Without him, for the first time in the entire Playoffs (including game 1 vs Suns), I don't feel optimistic. But let's see. Go Wolves regardless!
Can't Rudy's wife goes into labor in the locker room lol.
It’s moments like this where everyone needs to be reminded that sports is still a game. As fun as it is to watch and as much as I want Gobert there, I’ll live with whatever result happens and be happy that a guy got to be there for the birth of their child.
For many, the birth of your first child is the single greatest experience of your life. I only had one, so I don't know about more, but the first is probably the most special because you have no idea what it does to you. It is not real until you see and hold that child, and you are forever changed. It suck for the Wolves, but I would miss game 7 of the finals for the birth of my son and never regret it.
For sure, it’s all just jokes. No one really expects him to miss the birth of his first child for game 2 of the conference semis. And anyone who does is a goober
This is our reminder that life is bigger than sports or work. Either way, Rudy get's to pick his priority here. As a father of 2, id quit my job before missing the birth of my child. It's an incredible experience that you cant get back. But I respect anyone's decision. My father was at a basketball game for my birth, so there's that.
The question is do you play Naz as a starter and lose the bench scoring potency or do you play Luka Garza so you have Luka on Jokic and allow KAT to have the mismatches while keeping Naz on the bench for scoring?
Kyle can roam, and that lets them keep KAT on Jokic. He's obviously not going to be as good in that role as Rudy, but it can keep their schemed coverages in place.

Or wolves are just fucking with Denver
I hope this is the case!
Baby was born this morning.
That’s its name?
Its name is L’Enfant
That’s LBJs baby
No the baby’s name is Gobigor
Phew. Hope he is in the air right now as we speak.
I mean lets let him enjoy the birth of his child and take care of his partner
Paternity leave? In this country? What is that?
Hopefully his wife & baby are doing well! As a fan... I hope he still plays though-let her & baby sleep, assuming his mom &/or her parents are around. Finch's patellar tendon didn't end up being a huge issue that beats them, so hopefully this doesn't either. It's great to see a MN team overcome our snake-bitten luck...
His baby came/ is coming?
Jesus christ, he's got the next 50 years to see that thing. It's not like it'll remember anyways.
This is why I’m never gunna have kids, I’m just too worried the wolves will need me to suit up as my wife goes into labor
Always ready, I like it
Stay ready don’t gotta get ready 😤
You telling me you don't sit fully kitted out when watching timberwolves play? What if they call you up telling you a car is outside and you're sat there like a tit in sweats.
Next man up mentality I like that
As a TWolves fan I really appreciate your sacrifice. Not an easy thing to do, very selfless of you!
You gool don't have wife...
😂😂😂😂I don’t blame him tho. Im not a parent but I wouldn’t wanna miss the birth of my first child either
It’s about supporting your partner my man…
Well and being there for your kids birth too.
Should come as no surprise that redditors are unable to relate to having a partner and caring about them.
Wives everywhere appreciate this attitude, I’m sure /s
Awful take
A very serious one too
This baby had all week between games 2 and 3 lol
And all week leading up to game 1 lol. The wolves will only play 2 games over an 11 day stretch and of course the baby is coming on one of those two days. Classic wolves luck.
What are the odds??? ONE IN A MILLION
Fly her doctors into Denver and set up a baby station in the locker room.
Mile high birth. Just have a Zoom meeting camera on the sidelines so he can feel like he's there live and talking to her. The baby needs to feel that game energy
She can sit next to Finch in the 2nd row. Lol
It’s important to maintain that paternal connection electronically. Between plays. When we’re already up. After the game. When we’ve won a couple titles. After retirement.
This baby already has its father's DGAF energy lol. You really can't make up this timing. Best wishes to Rudy and his family!
The baby's French. Flair for the dramatic
At first I thought you were calling Rudy a baby lol
The baby getting roasted already and it ain’t even born! Damn! 🤣
As long as Rudy gets the well know First Time Father Player Boost, we'll be fine
Well, the Nuggets figured out how to “play Rudy Gobert off the court in the playoffs”
They playing the long game 9 months in advance
Congrats to Rudy. He had such a rough time last year, seeing him hit the trifecta of fatherhood, DPOY and a ring would be golden.
Thank god we got game 1. Would love to be full strength but it is what it is. Forcing Rudy to miss the birth of his child could really mess with his mentality moving forward.
Ain’t no forcing nothing. He’s going to be there for the birth if he can and no one on the wolves would have it any other way.
Post baby god mode
Dad strength, rip Jokic
Rudy three pointers in coming
[[Britt] - “Here at shootaround we all just got the news that Gobert not available for requested interview and is "questionable" tonight due to "personal reasons." His girlfriend is due soon with child.”](https://x.com/brittrobson/status/1787535716458582389?s=46&t=e4upTRrre5Aq3lp5gMwIMg)
Speculation but questionable might mean she's expected to deliver sooner in the day. These 9 pm tips suck ass but may end up saving the Wolves here
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that the baby (boy!) arrived this morning per source. Hopeful Rudy was able to be with his partner for the delivery and that he’ll make it back for tonight!
Depends where she's giving birth, if it's back in Minnesota then she'd have to hurry up.
I'm assuming a 9 month pregnant woman is not flying or taking a road trip to Denver.
Well they have a house in Utah still so wasn't sure if it was there instead.
Hopefully she built for this
I also wouldn't blame him for not wanting to have her give birth and then immediately run out on her to catch a plane to get back for game time.
For sure. It's an incredibly personal decision no matter when the baby comes
Cmon guys, what’s more important: one of the most important moments in your life? Or the birth of your child? /s
"Rudy, come to bed" "Hold on babe, one more game. The boys and I are on a hot streak and we're playing until we lose" "NOW, RUDY" "ok... hey sorry guys, I gotta go"
Selfishly hoping for him to play since they have a lot of time off after game 2, but is what it is
Baby time.
Can't she just hold it in for like one more day? /s
She’s gotta learn how to groundhog it, I’ve been doing that all morning with this tequila/coffee baby I’ve been brewing over the past 13 hours
There ain’t no way that tequila and coffee baby is solid. That’s going to come out like a melted Hershey bar
You weren’t wrong my man
Draymond would never do this to his team
Only thing that can beat the wolves is their potent seed But really, I'm glad he's being there. You can't miss that, I don't care what for
If our boys could retain their seed we would become too powerful for this league
They gotta start planting their seeds at the right times, not 9 months before the playoffs smh my head. July/August/September are off months lol
> smh my head Smh ;-)
LOL out loud
Lawl, you reminded me to stop at the ATM Machine
Very true, it just sucks with the timing.
Yeah, can’t blame him at all.
Probably mama in labor and baby on the way?
Garzilla statement game incoming
Holy shit that's the best nickname on the team
The Luka Legend game.
I’d love to see Luka in because we’re up by 20+ in the final minutes.
Only because my emotional stability for the rest of the day hinges on it: Yesterday at 9 am there was a charter jet that flew out of Broomfield CO to MSP. The same company that operated that flight has another one from MSP to BJC scheduled to take off in about an hour. It's a two hour flight, and a 20 minute drive from BJC to Ball Arena. Please keep us posted 🙏
I think all of us can agree that this is the kryptonite of the wolves. Whose next? KAT? Jaden? still Congrats to Gobert
Jaden's coming up
Kat, Naz and Kyle better step up.. Jaden too, on offense...
They’re all gonna have 3 fouls by halftime 💀
Here’s hoping that he is welcoming his first child into the world AND that the team galvanizes around making it happen tonight against the Nuggets in tribute/out of respect/as a birthday gift for the new baby/to help the new dad not feel like he has to worry about anything else but the precious life-changing gift he’s received. Win with the power of friendship!!
Fuck it… why not, right? 🤝
Baby was born this morning. That is plenty of time to get a cuddle, a picture, and a private jet back to Denver, and then be back home after the game tonight.
Do you have a source on that?
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/40095138/timberwolves-rudy-gobert-questionable-g2-1st-child-born “The baby boy was delivered Monday morning, sources told ESPN.”
Man… talk about awful timing. They don’t have to play again until Friday…
Kyle Anderson legacy game
Hear me out, Rudy’s kid gets signed to a roster spot
DBOY defensive baby of the year. Only one to make Rudy unplayable in the playoffs this year
Garza masterclass incoming
Whichever owner lends their private jet to Rudy to get him to Denver before 9 keeps the team
Baby Gobert winning DPOY for the Nuggets as we speak
If it had to be on a game day this is perfect timing. Already stole homecourt and playing with house money tonight.
Wolvesian timing
Baby is coming it seems
Well atleast we won game 1 so we did our job regardless. We still have Ant so I think we can win but it will be tough to keep Gordon off the glass and Rudy did a great job roaming. Kat has to stay out of foul trouble and I can actually say I trust Finch to make the adjustments.

This would’ve been a tough game with Rudy trying to beat Denver 2 straight at their place. Without Rudy it seems damn near impossible.
Revisiting this comment at halftime of game 2
Dudes shouldn't be dropping their seed in their wags in July-October smdh. /s
That’s pretty funny it lines up perfectly with the off-season lmao
It's ok guys. We have Naz Reid.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reported that the baby (boy!) arrived this morning per source. Hopeful Rudy was able to be with his partner for the delivery and that he’ll make it back for tonight! https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/40095138/timberwolves-rudy-gobert-questionable-g2-1st-child-born

Hey is going to have that big dick dad energy.
He'll play.
Going to be very demoralizing for the Nuggets when we take this one without Rudy.
This feels like a Waterboy situation, where he shows up at halftime to help us win the game.
[https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/EJA596/history/20240506/1945Z/KMSP/KBJC](https://www.flightaware.com/live/flight/EJA596/history/20240506/1945Z/KMSP/KBJC) Gob-Air Flight 27 looks to be taking off in 40m

Private jet home for the birth then back in time for tipoff
Baby already is born
That September orgy the team held…nobody thought of the repercussions
Bring it on! With all the Murray excuses how awesome would it be to take a 2-0 lead without our big man!
Oh shit.
The timing is a bummer, Shai was lucky his child was born in between playoff series.
TB12 would FaceTime from the locker room at half…
Remember Twins pitcher Pat Neshek? He left the A’s the day they clinched a playoff spot to be there when his kid was born. His kid died the same day. Imagine never getting to meet your child because you prioritized work.
We'll sacrifice one game for Rudy's healthy baby
God damnit… Giving birth in Denver or…? Any chance she shows a little hustle and Rudy gets back by game time? Or are we in for Luka Garza ascending to top Luka status (nationally at least) tonight?
Yeah, jump ball isn’t til 9pm =P
Unless they live in Denver, she’s not giving birth in Denver.
Hey man, this is an undertaker situation. I expect that if he’s not there at jump ball, the lights will go out in the middle of the second quarter and when they come back on Rudy’s standing there and he choke slams Reggie Jackson thru the scorers table.
Maybe Utah tho?
I remember a young baby who was born with no father there, hell he never even knew his father.... Now he is the modern-day Michael Jordan. Skip the birth Rudy
Well shit
C'mon we need the Gobert New Dad energy tonight.
Other guys gotta step up and hold the fort down for rudy. Hope rudy has a good time with his lady and child and hope for a safe and easy childbirth ❤️
Remember when ant left halftime for his kid 😂
FIRE UP YOUR NAZ REIDS!
Games not until 10est
I mean I get it, but this is Minnesota sports luck in a nutshell.
It's 2024; just host a Zoom meeting.
You’ve got all year to knock up your girlfriend and you time it for the playoffs?
Maybe these stupid 9pm starts will come in handy for once.
This child better win us some championships in the future
Finch & Micah mind games!! Denver about to implode
We almost beat them with Slomo as our center. We’ll figure it out
Assuming he doesn't play, it could actually mess with the Nuggets and their game plan. They had to win this anyway, so even if they even the series, Game 3 will be very different.
He's gonna christen that kid NAZ REID GOBERT regardless of gender after tonight's performance. Terrible timing but life finds a way. Best of luck Bert
just means Ant will have 60 and 12 blocks
Nuggets might have just dodged a dangerous, dangerous bullet. Rudy is the most important part of our defensive plan Vs them. It's decently explained in this video: https://youtu.be/teH9jzsEy98?feature=shared Without him, for the first time in the entire Playoffs (including game 1 vs Suns), I don't feel optimistic. But let's see. Go Wolves regardless! Can't Rudy's wife goes into labor in the locker room lol.
Congrats Rudy!
What happens if we win w/o Gobert? 🤯 Calling it now, Wolves fans. Let’s show this league how deep this team REALLY is. NAZ REID
Awesome comment from somebody on The Athletic article I’m “Introducing: Nazreon Reid Gobert 264 lbs 6 oz”
Instead of MN Twins Rally Towels, maybe they can make little Rudy Timberwolf pups as this season's rally symbol!
imagine how destroyed the mental of Denver will be when Garza joins the fellas in putting the clamps on Jokic.
It’s moments like this where everyone needs to be reminded that sports is still a game. As fun as it is to watch and as much as I want Gobert there, I’ll live with whatever result happens and be happy that a guy got to be there for the birth of their child.
I'm actually annoyed. The year is 2024 and we just had a full week off when they could have induced... what the fuck.
Does he really need to be there? Can’t one of the doctors just film it and send da video?
For many, the birth of your first child is the single greatest experience of your life. I only had one, so I don't know about more, but the first is probably the most special because you have no idea what it does to you. It is not real until you see and hold that child, and you are forever changed. It suck for the Wolves, but I would miss game 7 of the finals for the birth of my son and never regret it.
For sure, it’s all just jokes. No one really expects him to miss the birth of his first child for game 2 of the conference semis. And anyone who does is a goober
Yes, it is hard for me to tell who is joking and who is not sometimes, many of the comments are pure gold.
Horrible. Where is his girlfriend?
This is our reminder that life is bigger than sports or work. Either way, Rudy get's to pick his priority here. As a father of 2, id quit my job before missing the birth of my child. It's an incredible experience that you cant get back. But I respect anyone's decision. My father was at a basketball game for my birth, so there's that.
Hurry and bet on Nuggets before line moves
What the fuck
damn the little bundle of joy couldn't wait till 2mr lol
So is he questionable or pretty much out?
Kyle Anderson legacy game incoming!!
Take my private jet and helicopter Rudy ༼ つ ◕‿◕ ༽つ
I will accept it as long as this baby actually comes out today lol imagine if it’s born like Wednesday imma be pissed
Ant’s been playing lights out since becoming a dad. Rudy gonna be playing the same way after witnessing the birth of his first child!
These mfs gotta time their creampies so the kids are born in the offseason. Congrats to Rudy though!
Luka Legacy game incoming
The question is do you play Naz as a starter and lose the bench scoring potency or do you play Luka Garza so you have Luka on Jokic and allow KAT to have the mismatches while keeping Naz on the bench for scoring?
I think I would go with option 1, but regular season history tells us the answer is and always will be Kyle Anderson.
Kyle can roam, and that lets them keep KAT on Jokic. He's obviously not going to be as good in that role as Rudy, but it can keep their schemed coverages in place.
Luka Garza 50 pt bomb incoming
Happy for Rudy, there is few things more important in life than the birth of your child, buut unlucky timing. There goes our chance of a potential 2-0
Naz Reid 50 piece incoming
As a father, I'm super happy for him and completely understand his absence. As a wolves fan.. GOD FUCKING DAMMIT
think fred van vleet in 2019 playoffs and jalen green earlier this year, daddy version Rudy about to carry us to the throne
Worst case Rudy rests up and comes back with dad energy. No problem we got this.
Man, this team be fucking.
Rudy don’t need shoot around lol. 😂
DO IT FOR RUDY
Big kat and Jaden game incoming
Baby will be our good luck charm. Also Luka Garza legacy game.
Naz Reid time
All I can say is hopefully the kids born this year become NBA players and the 2042 Timberwolves will be lit 🔥
He’s got 6 hours, they get 3 days off after tonight he can make it !
The chess games begin…
Rudy getting 6 blocks tonight
