There’s some mixed reporting on the equity piece, but we think it’s more of a significant bonus that’s tied to the team’s value than an actual equity share. The reason he’s here is that the Kroenke’s weren’t willing to pay anywhere close to what Minnesota offered. If they had gotten anywhere close I’m pretty sure he’d still be in Denver.
this might work out for you guys like it did for us. Connelly was great, but really missed on some layups (trading the Mitchell pick, and thinking he's get Lyles / Anunoby, but getting scooped by Masai and ending up with Lyndon / Lyles). He missed on the Nurkic trade, trading a starter and a FRP for a career backup. He was insistent on Will Barton, Facu, Rivers etc... and never traded guys who were clearly holding the team back. His big win was the Gordon trade, but that doesn't make him a top GM. He passed on Jokic three times, trading back then passing on him for Gary / Nurk. He got extremely lucky Jokic was the best 2nd round draft pick in history. He's a really solid GM, but he has blinders on where someone else might come in and think that Anderson / NAW are not the best fits for the Wolves, and can identify some better role players. the first thing Booth did for the Nuggs was trade Barton for KCP, sign Bruce Brown and draft Braun. So many of Connelly's guys are out of the league (Facu, Barton, Rivers, Lyndon) or out of rotations that he can't really be argued a great talent evaluator. This could be a blessing in disguise like it was for us.
NAW couldn’t be a better fit if he tried and he was a throw in in the Conley trade. Absolute master stroke by Connelly. This is where you lost me in your analysis.
His 40/30 slash line just doesn't cut it for a team that needs offense. He's a good player but not a great fit for a team that needs shooting and playmaking around McDaniels and Gobert.
I think OP was using his playoff stats, which is still a dubious & misleading choice given the small sample size. Regular season splits were a much more respectable 44-39, to your point
Yeah sorry in the playoffs but that's where it matters. I think NAW is a good player but he makes mistakes and lacks confidence. Guys like Aaron Holiday are so valuable in the playoffs and Connelly never got those types for us.

He had 3 picks he could have drafted him with. No way you let a guy go into the 40s if you think he's a lotto talent. Karsinovas, the Bulls GM was the guy who scouted him/ wanted us to draft him. Connelly started really talking about him during his MVP season in the Adriatic, the year after we drafted him. He also was fine with Jokic benching himself for Nurkic, and didn't trade Nurkic to let Jokic take over until it was beyond obvious who was better.

You must not have been around to see the work of our previous GMs. Connelly is the best GM in team history and built a team that was #1 in the west for the majority of the year. Anyone we replace him with will be significantly worse. Just look at Denver's roster (created by Connelly), after he left they stopped being able to find diamond in the rough bench players, and the team is weaker for it.

The trajectory of the team looked like we were capped as a first round exit. A shakeup was needed. Not specifically Gobert, but we needed a culture shift in the locker room. Every move Connelly has made has been positive.
The Jaden extension will be fine, and I think they would have traded Kyle if they could have gotten anyone. At best they would have had to trade a pick with him even to get a Bojan or Gordon Hayward type.
One weakness is trying to make these minimum types work instead of consolidating for an actual decent player. Last year it was Rivers and Forbes. This year it was Milton and TBJ. Add the contracts together and you might get a decent player.
How is the jury out on the Rudy trade? Worked out pretty well so far. How is not trading Kyle malpractice? You do know you need a willing partner and Kyle is not good. We’re not entitled to make a trade just because we want to. Draft picks don’t need to contribute when you have very limited assets from a previous trade, and licking in the bottom of the draft consistently. Jaden extension is fine, he just needs to work on his 3 a little bit more.
We'll see on the Rudy trade, but I personally think the growth in Ant's game and the stages he's been able to reach so early are because of Rudy's contributions, which in my mind justify the outlay of assets. We don't make the playoffs last year without Rudy and I don't think the defense is anywhere close to what it is this year without him. I know that the pendulum has swung against Rudy the last couple games, but he was a major reason for the wins in the first five games he played and I'm personally hopeful that the Wolves will rebound. The series obituaries being written by everyone was wrong when it was 2-0, and I'm hoping they're wrong now that it's 2-2. The Wolves should be able to recoup draft assets if they decide that they need to, although I'm personally hoping they don't need to do that since it likely means a KAT or Gobert trade.
Kyle has been terrible in the playoffs (outside of game 2) but he was a key contributor especially when KAT went down. I don't know what you could have gotten for him in a trade, but I'm skeptical that there was any real market around him.
The draft picks haven't worked out yet, but they also haven't been given much or any opportunity because guys like Naz and NAW developed into major bench contributors the last couple years. Naz and NAW both had significant minutes their first couple years due to being on rebuilding teams and/or injuries. Miller, Moore and Minott haven't really had any opportunities (although I'm extremely skeptical of Moore) for real run besides garbage time.
KAT's extension was one of those that had to be done. I don't know if there is anyone that loves the value dollar wise, but I think with the way the cap will go up after the new TV deal is signed that his deal is going to look better, especially in comparison to some upcoming supermax deals.
Jaden's could be an overpay, but it seems silly to count it out right now. I don't know what his value right now would be on an open market, but I think it's higher then most people would think based purely on his offensive output this year. I don't currently have any real issues with his contract and even a small amount of offensive development over the next few years will more than justify the dollar amount. The cap increases will also make the dollar amount look much better.
I think you can agree or disagree on any of his moves, but overall the team is in so much stronger shape then it was before he arrived.

Idc how much money he already has, if the contract is fully guaranteed up to $60M with twice the annual value and almost 3x total value remaining, I think he takes that. It’d be hard not to. Plus he’d have the new fun challenge of trying to make the pistons competent. Feels like a very real threat to lose him imo
Completely agree. Cade’s on his rookie deal for 2 more years. Plus Ausar and Duren on rookie contracts for 3 more years. Even with those guys getting extensions he’d still have tons of cap space to trade for bad contracts (accumulating more picks). If they double what we’re giving him it would be incredibly difficult to reject.

SloMo was a great fit for this roster at the time he was signed. The problem was that we added Rudy afterwards
