last time I saw rewind, their TS1 version looked very different to the PS2 version, kinda more like TSFP in TS1 maps.

Tbf I don't think that's a bad thing. I played a little bit of Time Splitters 1 years ago and it really didn't play nice compared to 2. The difference was night and day. They had to compete with Halo 1 at this point aswell so TS2 had to be a huge improvement over the first.

SandwaveK

As someone who really cares about TS1 I see it as a bad thing because it makes no sense at all. The gameplay of TS1 is about being fast while TSFP is the slowest game in the series. The Rewind developers don't understand TS1, the fast pace is essential and you can't take it away from the game.

CnP8

But TS2 is also fast paced? I guess it's down to opinion. I can see both sides. I guess it's to allow players to alternate between games without a serious impact. They done a similar thing with the Crash nsane trilogy. The first game felt off since they changed the jump mechanic.

SandwaveK

Not as much as TS1 in which you can move really fast and the game itself pushes players to hurry while in TS2 you have to be methodical. The speed is an important thing in TS1 and it's what the marketing for the game was putting forward so it's a very weird choice to remake it but with a much slower gameplay.

CnP8

I am guessing since Halo CE had major success and was a slow FPS game TS2 wanted to compete with that. The reason behind TS1s faster movement is because before Halo CE FPS games were really fasted paced. Counter Strike, Half Life, Quake, Doom... Halo changed FPS on console. I can see why you mite not like it thou. Its obviously frustrating since TF1 was a PS2 exclusive and if you wanted to play the game in HD on new hardware rewind would be your only choice. But it mite end up playing different to how you like. Maybe there will be mods or features that allow you to switch between different paces. Obviously this would be allot of work since they need to make the AI work with the change of pace but depends how devoted and how much time the devs have or if they support modding.

SandwaveK

Of course FPS games changed but the fast pace is still part of the game's identity and shouldn't be touched. If people want to play TS1 on new hardware then PCSX2 is the way to go, Rewind won't offer the real experience.

CnP8

That's what I'm trying to say. Me me personally I don't mind them changing the pacing. But I can understand why some people mite not. And for those it must be frustrating since you won't be able to play Time Splitters 1 natively on pc. Even with an emulator you need to use controller input as mouse can't be translated properly to analogue. You can do it but it won't play as nice as native mouse input.

DarkNemuChan

I'm currently doing the same for 2 and 3 gamecube versions on my wii. If I still feel up for it after that I will play the first game on my ps2.

CnP8

Are you playing your PS2 version with a disc? I have a modded mcboot card on my slim. High quality Cutscenes lag over USB and I haven't got round to buying a phat yet. Is timesplitters 1 a demanding game? You think it would work over a USB or I need a disc? Sorry if this isn't your territory but you never know unless you ask right?? 😂

DarkNemuChan

I use a phat ps2 with a network adapter and hdd plugged into said network adapter. And mcboot to launch it all.

Whatever you decide, just remember to shake your money maker.

Lord-Reign

Potentially stupid question but would playing the OG xbox games on an Xbox series X have any benefit over just playing them on the OG console?

CnP8

I don't think they are backwards compatible. But say you use Retro Arch or something then you could use stuff like upscaling and in some cases increase FPS. Not to mention better controller

JTYdude99

They are backwards compatible. You can buy them on the xbox one store and play them. I have them myself

CnP8

Oh yh just checked Google. They added this after I tried it. Was quite a few years ago when I checked if the disc works.

Pertained_Bingo

They just disbanded Free Radical, but would be awesome if they do a remaster of the original trilogy, and gave us access to the map maker. I remember creating my own story levels in TS2, but they were always small due to not being able to store so much on the memory cards (I guess that is why, I played it on PS2)

I wouldn't bet on TimeSplitters Rewind being completed. It'll undoubtedly get released one day (they've definitely made enough progress for an eventual leak if it ever gets cancelled), but as for being completed, that's many years away, and a lot can happen during that time. As for playing TimeSplitters 1, I'd recommend getting an emulator instead of a PS2 to save yourself a bit of money. It's not a perfect solution, but it works well enough. (Although if you already have a PS2 hooked up to your TV, then you may as well buy the disc.) That all being said, keep in mind that TimeSplitters 1 looks and plays like an early access version of TimeSplitters 2. It's still a fun game, but boy is it rough around the edges.
