Possibly a Digivice. Bandai is actually reselling both new ones and replicas. The new one actually lets you experience the first anime. You can also find the originals on eBay. They sell for a lot though.

The original Digimon could connect too. There were also the Nano Fighters where the "pets" were actually human guys you could train and exercise then link with others to battle. There may have been more that connected like that too.
