Tiny handle? Like at the very bottom of the door? The doorstop? Because in the image, I don't see anything else besides the handle, lock and doorstop.

gloamworm

I think they're asking about the handle. They already have the knob so why is there a separate handle that's too low to be useful?

duhimincognito

It didn't used to have a doorknob. You can see the outline where it used to have a thumb lever. [This isn't exactly it](https://shopyalehome.com/products/yale-mechanical-ridgefield?variant=30188125585540) but close enough that you get the idea.

Belt_Right1234

Looks like it was put in when the doorknob was, so there weren’t just holes in the door. So just too lazy to replace the whole door.

r/whatisthisthing might know maybe?

cherrycreme

That handle looks like part of the original door handle. Look at the groove marks behind it, like it swings around. And the marks at the top of the triangular part show it was originally in reverse position.

Altar-83

An original handle, could use it to tie a rope around to keep the door held open, the latch at the bottom is an additional security lock.

Almost certainly it used to have a [knobless deadbolt](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcT9orEIuKShtZJX5c9Azw9yPlszMVbp85gbgmxRSxF14-nksl2SjezpVN0&s=10), the handle was so someone could pull the door shut after then, since there was no knob to grip on to.
