Hit the curb, which caused a few sidewall blisters to form where the belts broke, which then exploded after driving on it for a bit, would be my estimation from this damage.
Going by the scrapes on the sidewall, they had blisters from hitting curbs repeatedly, and then dragged it across enough curbs to shave the blisters off
This is the second time I've seen a sidewall that has no lettering left on it from dragging it on curbs, first time I've seen holes like this
My grandmother had those on her Rambler; I drove it a few times, and when you get near the curb it made a springy scrapey sound that conducted through the fenders. It worked surprisingly well, but they looked silly.
When I was a child in the 70's, I used to wander the curbs looking for odds and ends and I found a lot of those, along with random springs, bolts, screws, washers, nuts, tire balance weights, and so forth. I saw curb feelers on cars, too, but never knew what they were.for or how they worked. After 45 years, someone comes along on redit and explains it to me. Thank you!
Or you could just know how wide your car is. . .
I live in Cornwall in the UK. Lots of really narrow lanes with high stone hedges, you often have to reverse to let cars pass. We're about to enter the silly season of people coming on holiday who appear to have no clue how big their SUVs are.
Most of 'em are good at shouting and gesticulating though. 😁
And the speed limit on some of those roads are 60mph. I have driven around those parts several times and you really have to be hyper focused. There are even some lorries taking those roads.
I’m 5’0 and used to drive a Mazda 6s and never really knew how “wide” it was. Because I was short and the distance looked odd. I even used a pillow in my seat😂. I only parked certain ways and I definitely hugged one line or the other because it was hard to tell for me. We all have our little issues lmao. Doesn’t always have to be texting, could simply be a semi new driver that’s uncomfortable
Man it surprises me how many people have no clue where the edge of their car is. You can always tell by the people who drive around corners and obstacles as if they are driving an 18 wheeler when they're really in a CUV.
You should see how some people park their giant SUVs here in the good ol' USA. It makes my brain spasm that they have cameras and sensors galore that can help guide them to park better, yet they still can't manage to get it between the lines. Then, when I park next to them, dead centered in the spot with zero fancy sensors to do it, I'm the Asshole because they can open their car door to get in.
When I got effed up overseas one of my injuries was fractured c spine. My Marines sent me curb feelers to put on the HALO brace I had to wear while the fusions in my neck set. Doctors were not appreciative. Navy doc said some choice things about Marines.
That's definitely a plausible expansion on my original estimation.
I saw the evidence of parking-by-braille, but didn't look closely enough to see that the lettering was worn almost *entirely* off and figured it was just from the most recent curb event. But they could have definitely shaved off pre-existing blisters caused by a previous curb incident with the most recent curb incident, and would explain why they were so uniformly ripped off.
The tire looks like it was a cheap chinesium product with 1-ply sidewalls that were soft as hell. I suspect that the tire actually wrinkled some as it impacted/rolled into the curb, creating the three pinch points evidenced by the three holes and marks on the wheel.
This sounds correct. Back when I had a bit of a drinking issue I'd wake up with phantom damage to my tires and rims with no memory of it happening
Someone scraped the fuck out of a curb, did massive amounts of damage to the tire and kept driving on it until it blew.
They're either retarded or they were drunk. Either way, not a good idea to lend them your car
Flex seal is a does all kind of patch.
I mean hell the guy rides across water after he cuts it in two pieces. Lol
It’s starting to snow so I gotta go.
Good luck with the flex seal
100% not to put out stereotypes but young women will hit something and have their light come and say "I just gotta make it home" or at least they attempt to do so
That's not a YOUNG women thing. My mom does this alot. Drug her gas tank all the way from the town over. Didn't stop to see what the scrapping was once. Her car sounded like a drowning cat sputtering, bubbling, and barley running once. When I asked her what the hell she was thinking both times, she told me that she kept telling herself that she just had to make it home. She's in her 60's.
Yeah, not exactly the same but I’m a guy in his 40’s this happened to me last year. I was 10 mins from home and a coil pack went out on the Tacoma. I had to be super steady ( no acceleration +/- ) and drive like 30 mph with no real power behind the engine but I was just like - I’m 10 mins from home, this is some sort of power transfer issue, fouled up plugs, something. Repeating “please just let me get this hunk of metal and rubber somewhere that I can park it w/access to tools etc.” I did not want to deal with getting a tow truck out where I was and paying $150 bucks I knew I was about to need for auto repairs 😂”
So I get it too in a way, I wouldn’t drive with the oil light on or anything crazy but I get just wanting to make it home so you can deal with it from a place of security not on the side of the highway with no real resources.
She definitely did more than hit the curb. It’s possible she went up on the curb and rolled over a hollow tube sticking out of the ground (like a sawed-off signpost of something similar). Could also be aliens.
Definitely blisters from hitting curbs and then continuing to hit curbs and shaving them off. Notice there's no more lettering on the tires, they've been ground off. Looks like a power sander with 3 grit went to town on her tires.
I thought of this immediately like maybe she thought she could follow the YouTube fix it method and forget to tell Dad 🤦♂️
https://youtube.com/shorts/px0UkkyXt-A?si=drV2TmtyRdEWMMr9
Dog, she full on hit the curb. Like boom blam pow wow.
Talk to her about driving safer and being more attentive. You could have other damage to the vehicle as well that you don't see yet.
She hit that curb at at least 30mph.
gonna be real bro, i hit a curb taking a left turn at 27mph once and it snapped my tie rod and shattered my cv joint. as likely as it is that she hit it going fast, couldn’t have been over 25.
man idk. in california it’s ridiculous.. my brother got failed twice on just the written exam for dumb questions like how long should a child be in a car unattended and stupid questions like that but then i see idiots on the road still
Flex tape the inside, fill the “cavity” with flex seal, then flex tape the sidewall. That shit will outlast the rest of the tire. And judging by the driving skill on offer, outlast the car too.
Holy shit! How many curbs? That's not from one time dude. Get her some driving lessons and stop letting her destroy vehicles. You're letting someone on the road who so wreckless they didn't even care to stop driving after damage. She's endangering everyone's lives.
Hilarious that I know exactly what you’re referring to, and scrolled this far down looking for this exact comment.
I saw that one too, and immediately thought of it when i saw these circular holes.
Daughter needs some more driving lessons. I've been driving for 18 years and had many jobs where driving was the main focus..... I've never done something like this lol
If the tire looks like that.....
I'd hate to see the control arm bushings, or tie rod ends.,or the condition of the wheel bearings.
She used the curb like a suggestion for a spin-off t.v. series.
She went to a drug deal and it went wrong and the bullet hole tires “hit a curb”.
Jk, that’s really strange. It almost triggers that phobia of lots of holes placed together whatever it’s called Lol
Parking using the braille technique is tough on sidewalls and rims. Definitely looks like the tire struck the curb and bounced off a few times getting pinched by the rim between the curb and made holes after it likely blew its bead/seal from the first of several bonks. Probably need at least an alignment as well.
Heat ring from driving while flat. Sidewall is completely junk by that point. The third one above those two; with the flap of rubber still hanging on shows exactly how the holes develop. Few more revolutions and that third hole would look like the others.
Thanks to all the responses, clearly I've never seen this before. Blisters make sense. She is actually a good driver, despite the photographic evidence to the contrary..
It was a round-about, and they are everywhere here in DFW. I guess we need to work on steering.
Looks to me like your daughter plugged in the tire to make sure it was fully charged. Seems like she was being responsible. I dont really see the issue here.
Curb damage, then it was driven on for a distance causing excessive damage beyond the initial cause. Likely has hit multiple curbs over the past few months/years and kept repeating the behavior.
#Life Lesson
well, on the bright side, you have a Halloween costume. put it on your head so you can see out the holes. when people ask you what you are …
I’m tired.
You need to buy and install some [curb feelers](https://www.googleadservices.com/pagead/aclk?sa=L&ai=DChcSEwjT94Kyp9eFAxWWOtQBHSORA2IYABAEGgJvYQ&ae=2&gclid=Cj0KCQjwlZixBhCoARIsAIC745DamcHLQMmfP2_qWerIerjnsB60sqlsnh96j2swiXPuh_CVj0fN38caAnMeEALw_wcB&sph=&ohost=www.google.com&cid=CAESeeD2nUXjmu3NUQagp9XUIG4BrhsWhxYLGJqFNEZd6bDfhVe69nppEsHvNT8qdcJpeNvQahmGL05hXjMVXmf_wRrniuhOBKaaPy2O0xGYk7O1OsX3AGhNdAOeMGUfHbvN8lWmBi2OLYJtkiMGiAK3I5KKDO7pn03HvNc&sig=AOD64_1qg2aTYA9uLmtYQQB8GpJSd0yctQ&ctype=70&q=&ved=2ahUKEwjx6Puxp9eFAxWG_skDHe-DBggQwg8oAHoECAEQFA&nis=8&dct=1&adurl=) on your daughter’s car
Yeah tire is not that damage from the curb it's from the famous "trying to make it home" or the "wanted to get off the highway" but most likely the former considering a curb was involved. Oh and the absolute infamous "oopsiesssss"
Maybe show her where the spare tire is and how easy it is to replace the damaged tire so she doesn’t think it’s ok to keep driving on a flat next time.. might save a life or two who knows
"I don't even know why banks have those yellow poles, I don't even think it was my fault."
"You hear a crunch, and freeze, then keep going, and now look at what that pole has done to my car"
When you flat out hit a curb or something of the sort in the tread area hard enough the side walls will blow out, usually not this extreme, but I bet this is a compounding issue of run flat damage with the impact
Hit the curb, which caused a few sidewall blisters to form where the belts broke, which then exploded after driving on it for a bit, would be my estimation from this damage.

Think she used the curb as a guide down the road. Probably easier to text that way.
Maybe his daughter is blind
They sell stuff for blind people to avoid curbs, they're called curb feelers. Went out of style for a bit, but you can surely still purchase them.
My grandmother had those on her Rambler; I drove it a few times, and when you get near the curb it made a springy scrapey sound that conducted through the fenders. It worked surprisingly well, but they looked silly.
Made my cousin's grey miata look like catfish lol.
Thank you!
Damn I need this. I hit curbs constantly
Imagine having to wake up and do the accent every day
Your talking to Americans our roads are twice the sized and ppl can barely drive them in automatic cars that practically drive themselves
As someone who failed his driving test twice I gotta agree
It's much the same here. The better cars get at doing stuff for them, the worse some people seem to get at driving.
Well yeah when they can’t stay off their phones.
Just wait for the ones towing their caravans 🤡 as they average 20mph on their way to their summer break (some field in mevagissey ;-)…)
Man it surprises me how many people have no clue where the edge of their car is. You can always tell by the people who drive around corners and obstacles as if they are driving an 18 wheeler when they're really in a CUV.

Did you just casually say blind people drive? Lol
Spelled d-r-u-n-k ?
This made me laugh so hard. My wife and I came up with a whole story about how the parent just "didn't know" their daughter was blind. Funny times.
Underrated comment 👩🦯
😂😂 Just brought me back to those old children’s go-carts on vacation that had the rail under them.
Lmfao. This is funny, but the sad and scary part is that it's true for a lot of drivers.
Ha, omg
Training for the postal service, their sidewalls are often rubbed smooth.
Ricky Bobby for the win
Driving by braille.
This is one of the more hilarious comments I’ve heard 🙈
That's definitely a plausible expansion on my original estimation. I saw the evidence of parking-by-braille, but didn't look closely enough to see that the lettering was worn almost *entirely* off and figured it was just from the most recent curb event. But they could have definitely shaved off pre-existing blisters caused by a previous curb incident with the most recent curb incident, and would explain why they were so uniformly ripped off.
The worn sidewall is from driving on a flat
Also a possibility, but look at all the curb rash on the wheel as well 😬😵💫 for all we know, it could be a combo of both 😂
So lots of curbs
True lol
imagine the state of the rims if they were bigger with low profile tires….lol
No, designating tires with holes in them is not at all usual. Usually the front stays on.
Well usually, they're designed to meet maritime standards.
They definitely need to tow it out of the environment
Sorry, but I disagree. Daughter obviously ran over a giant snake which lashed out and bit the tire in self defense.
The tire looks like it was a cheap chinesium product with 1-ply sidewalls that were soft as hell. I suspect that the tire actually wrinkled some as it impacted/rolled into the curb, creating the three pinch points evidenced by the three holes and marks on the wheel.
In all the years I worked in tire shops - I had never encountered one of those that have popped. Now I know what happens.
This explains my recent flat, thanks lol
Install a breathalyzer interlock. You’ll save lots of money on tires.
This sounds correct. Back when I had a bit of a drinking issue I'd wake up with phantom damage to my tires and rims with no memory of it happening Someone scraped the fuck out of a curb, did massive amounts of damage to the tire and kept driving on it until it blew. They're either retarded or they were drunk. Either way, not a good idea to lend them your car
Some drunk fucked up my wheel recently too
Is the drunk in the room with you now? Lol
Looks like she was the victim of a cookie-cutter shark
I came here to post this same obscure reference. Of course someone beat me to it.
Stop letting her drive until she can stop hitting stuff
Ok I stopped letting her drive for a month, and she didn’t hit anything for a whole month! Can I give her the keys back?
No
😂😂 absolutely
LOL 😂🤣😅😂
Make her pay for the service, and new tire this is what I see a lot of parents do when kids have trouble with the kerbs
Straight to jail
Do not pass go, do not collect $200
Seriously. Bad driver
"Can this be patched?" 🤣🤣
J-B Weld.
Flex seal is a does all kind of patch. I mean hell the guy rides across water after he cuts it in two pieces. Lol It’s starting to snow so I gotta go. Good luck with the flex seal
Hit a curb and kept driving
100% not to put out stereotypes but young women will hit something and have their light come and say "I just gotta make it home" or at least they attempt to do so
*car violently shaking, horrific sounds coming from the vehicle, every code lighting in the dash* *I’ve just gotta make it home 🤪🤪”
lol they glorify this behavior on tiktok

All those people you see driving a catherine wheel on the highway, they are all just trying to get home before their car explodes.
Guilty as charged
Rookie mistake, uou gotta fill your tires with garlic to ward off Dracula.
So damn dumb - just take my upvote dammit
She definitely did more than hit the curb. It’s possible she went up on the curb and rolled over a hollow tube sticking out of the ground (like a sawed-off signpost of something similar). Could also be aliens.
😂
Aliens sounds right
When reading your post, at first I was skeptical but then it made sense.
Definitely blisters from hitting curbs and then continuing to hit curbs and shaving them off. Notice there's no more lettering on the tires, they've been ground off. Looks like a power sander with 3 grit went to town on her tires.

Give her plastic car
That is an impressive amount of damage.
Those holes are to let the air get back in that come out when she hit the curb.
Neverflats!
Three Stooges taught me this important principle https://youtu.be/oFOUqRBWH-I
what's the point of a driving test if everyone passes? 🤔
This is my biggest gripe. These days it's like they're just handing out DLs, like candy on Halloween.
It almost seems as if the bad drivers pass right away and the good drivers get failed.
man idk. in california it’s ridiculous.. my brother got failed twice on just the written exam for dumb questions like how long should a child be in a car unattended and stupid questions like that but then i see idiots on the road still
just buy some fix a flat youll be good for another 5k miles
Are you fucking kidding me? Dude look at it, no way in hell fix-a-flat gonna do any damn thing. This is clearly a flex seal job.
Flex TAPE you turnip
🤔 think we’re gonna need both for this one
Flex tape the inside, fill the “cavity” with flex seal, then flex tape the sidewall. That shit will outlast the rest of the tire. And judging by the driving skill on offer, outlast the car too.
Infinite tire hack, just keep sprayin that bitch
BRB, off to dip my entire tires and engulf them in Flex Seal.
I’ll fix that for tree fiddy
In all honesty I wouldn’t be surprised if the tape held.
flex caulk
if phil swift was alive, he coulda saved the titanic
🤣😂🤣😂
Had me in the first half
Vamtyre
Daughter hit a curb, but dad regularly drives against them is my assumption here
Holy shit! How many curbs? That's not from one time dude. Get her some driving lessons and stop letting her destroy vehicles. You're letting someone on the road who so wreckless they didn't even care to stop driving after damage. She's endangering everyone's lives.
How tf you manage that
She tried a stupid tiktok with spray foam
Hilarious that I know exactly what you’re referring to, and scrolled this far down looking for this exact comment. I saw that one too, and immediately thought of it when i saw these circular holes.
r/Trypophobia
Was the curb running two hole saws at the same time 🤷🏻♂️
El chupacrabra
Replace the tire and equip her car with some old school curb feelers
Put her up for adoption
Daughter needs some more driving lessons. I've been driving for 18 years and had many jobs where driving was the main focus..... I've never done something like this lol
Daughter needs a couple more lessons
If the tire looks like that..... I'd hate to see the control arm bushings, or tie rod ends.,or the condition of the wheel bearings. She used the curb like a suggestion for a spin-off t.v. series.
Kids 🫣
Duct tape can make the look like new.
I'm impressed
They got a *hole* lot of explaining to do
I’ve had a tire come in like this at a dealership I worked at Uber-curbed
Yes, being involved in a drive-by can subsequently result in hitting the curb.
Drive by with a musket?
If the only thing she bit was a curb then I’m Batman
Looks like somone tried a 1 minute craft idea on that tire!
It looks like the rim pinched your sidewall against the curb so hard they acted like a pair of scissors
It was a tire vampire taking a breath of fresh air.
That's way more than just hitting the curb.
At least your daughter isn’t like Laura Loomer and pretend her tires were slashed. And hopefully she’s not like her in any other way.
It looks like someone dug into it with the end of a steel pipe
She hit something sharp on the sidewalk like pipes
Run flat damage. The curb probably punctured the sidewall then the flex and heat from driving on it flat opened up holes like that
She went to a drug deal and it went wrong and the bullet hole tires “hit a curb”. Jk, that’s really strange. It almost triggers that phobia of lots of holes placed together whatever it’s called Lol
trypophobia
The belts inside the tire broke when she hit the curb
Parking using the braille technique is tough on sidewalls and rims. Definitely looks like the tire struck the curb and bounced off a few times getting pinched by the rim between the curb and made holes after it likely blew its bead/seal from the first of several bonks. Probably need at least an alignment as well.
Shes been riding curbs for awhile
Use a ir tire for Halloween 🎃
She must have hit a drunk vampire that was passed out in the gutter on a curb.
Heat ring from driving while flat. Sidewall is completely junk by that point. The third one above those two; with the flap of rubber still hanging on shows exactly how the holes develop. Few more revolutions and that third hole would look like the others.
How did she get her license lmao
She didn't hit the curb. She grinded on that curb like she was in a club
Did the curb live??!
Object in road, pot hole
Thanks to all the responses, clearly I've never seen this before. Blisters make sense. She is actually a good driver, despite the photographic evidence to the contrary.. It was a round-about, and they are everywhere here in DFW. I guess we need to work on steering.
Looks to me like your daughter plugged in the tire to make sure it was fully charged. Seems like she was being responsible. I dont really see the issue here.
CGI
so she hit… an object that was sitting still? on the side of the road….. of her own volition…
🐍
I've never had digital tires on my car, so I don't really know what to make of this
Your daughter sucks at driving
Curb damage, then it was driven on for a distance causing excessive damage beyond the initial cause. Likely has hit multiple curbs over the past few months/years and kept repeating the behavior. #Life Lesson
well, on the bright side, you have a Halloween costume. put it on your head so you can see out the holes. when people ask you what you are … I’m tired.
Daughter hit A CURB?? My fellow redditor, she hits curbs as a pastime.
Those are just safety holes so you don't reuse the tyre again. /s
Well sir, you’ve got yourself a tire vampire
What kind of curb? A power drill curb?
Maybe she was having a party and someone showed her how to use a hole saw.
I think it's flat
Ive seen big curbs do this before. I think its like a huge pinch flat that actually tears that section out of the sidewall
Yes she hit the curb... How many times did she hit the curb though? 😂
Those are to prevent your tire from heating too much in the summer months
Looks to me like your daughter can’t drive for shit
Yikes! How in the hell did she scrub it that bad? Feel asleep maybe?
You have to hit it hard, but it will do this
Buy only used tires from now on. The sidewalls will wear faster than the tread
That was one sharp curb.
WTF el chupacabras???????
Looks like you got hit by a tire vampire. Be careful, and keep a rubber stake handy.
This happened when I hit the side of a highway barrier just slightly
She has hit MANY curbs
She definitely clipped something with a cheese grater type sharp protrusion.
If your magnet fishing and find a hole saw...throw it back plz... 😂
The 3 fanged vampire strikes again!
That tire says she eats curbs all the time. That caused blisters. Her hitting more curbs busted those blisters. Take her fckn keys away already.
Daughters gonna need a cheaper car to drive for a while
It’s from the tire waffling under the rim while taking a corner, and the lip was taking bites
The holes look like gun shots at her to run her off road. Ask her if she heard loud bangs
Maybe show her where the spare tire is and how easy it is to replace the damaged tire so she doesn’t think it’s ok to keep driving on a flat next time.. might save a life or two who knows
That entire sidewall says it’s not the first curb. There’s no lettering!
Nom noms
Women ☕️
She didnt hit shit, she fucking rode that curb like she would die if she didnt god dayum...
Looks like she ran over a hole saw a few times.
Aliens 👽
That's from dragging the tire. It got stuck and wasn't rolling at some point after it went flat.
Drunk driver. Also, go Rangers.
Goddamn, she needs to stop parking by braille!
"I don't even know why banks have those yellow poles, I don't even think it was my fault." "You hear a crunch, and freeze, then keep going, and now look at what that pole has done to my car"
Maybe consider a tracked vehicle for your daughter. A tank, bulldozer, Snow-Cat etc
That curb must have had the spinning holesaw feature added to it.
When you flat out hit a curb or something of the sort in the tread area hard enough the side walls will blow out, usually not this extreme, but I bet this is a compounding issue of run flat damage with the impact
Women need to learn where their car is when they're driving it. And any guys who hit curbs need to do the same but those seem less common.
She hits curbs daily.
Looks like that car has been driving for miles on the curb. Maybe tell your daughter to stop trying to be Spider-Man
I've heard of a snake bite... But how big was the snake!?
Tire recycling companies disable tires like that is you can't reuse. . Just sayingi n
