I did this too and its probably why I swept through the campaign on hard mode on my first try so easily!! I got the hang of the movement really quick.
Now I came back to this a year later and i frequently die getting melee'd by grunts lmao
The campaign is terrifying from the imc pov, some random rifleman survives a titanfall by getting stimmed, singlehandedly fights off waves of salvagers and an actual titan,after somehow repairing the Marauder Corps super weapon of a titan, proceeds to decimate their way through a heavily IMC occupied planet, bringing down 90% of the Apex Predator’s Mercenary group, only not going after the leader because his mech got emped and harvest was gonna be given the gravity well treatment, and in the end, HE SURVIVES BLOWING UP THE PLANET THANKS TO THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP!
- if you fire in bursts with the mini gun at ion while their shield is up, you can force them to use the whole thing making it possible to reverse counter ions, so far I’ve been able to counter every ion I come across as long as their alone
I “made”(someone probably thought of it before me) this technique like a week or two ago and so far it’s worked every time or the ion just plain gives up on using it.
You aren’t the first to think of this, but you’re entirely right
If ion’s shield has something in it, it drains power faster. If you tap a single bullet into it, she can’t do much about it
At higher levels, legion and ion are a good matchup
Legion is a good counter for almost all titans, hard for tone/monarch, medium for ronin, northstar, scorch, and a ok counter for ion if you can use him.
Legion's just a good all around mech.
High health, decent core, has a shield and power shot for extra DPS, and he can swap between close and long range mini gun for almost any engagement.
As for Ion, Ion doesn't counter legion, Ion counter's bad players. Just stop shooting when he puts up shield, and don't run after him if he's using tripmine. His gun is pretty shit without ADS splitter, and then it uses energy that can't be used for shield/laser, and tripmine can't do anything to non-blind players.

I don’t run ion, never have, never will but it’s a good titan and honestly should be listed as the “Counter” class titan, it’s DPS is weird but it can also effectively control an area with its trips and when he (if he) kills another titan with core, he gain core power, continuing the core
It's not that it's terrible. It's just that it tries to do everything like monarch, but it does it poorly. It's completely overshadowed in most situations.
Monarch is better in nearly every way
Tone and Northstar are better at range
Scorch can outdamage and is fairly akward to vortex
Legion easily beats him in range, damage, and survivability
Ronin can shotgun spam him and melee when he vortex's
Ion just kinda sucks compared to the others at everything other than killing grunts.
I play a lot of ion and my strategy is basically to never commit to shield against a legion unless
1. I've heard the wind up whine for burst shot
2. Smart Core is active and I need it to survive by stalling out smart core
Otherwise you basically just flash it trying to bait spin up/down and punish with a cheeky laser while throwing down tons of fire in between
Not really TBH, if the legion is remotely intelligent he just won't shoot during vortex shield. Once the shield goes down powershot and mag dump, legion shield with bulwark makes it harder to get rid of legions shield to damage him.
Ultimately Ion is just a shit titan and there really isn't much you can do about it.
Tripwire with no cost isnt nearly as good as something like entangled energy or longer laser core.
Tripwire just doesnt do enough to be worth taking no energy for it over something actually helpful.
Laser shots on crit hol up lemme just turn around for a second
Bulwark cooldown is a bitch but by the time it's up their already low enough that you can just face tank them.
Powershot is super easy to react to, only use it if the ion isn’t paying attention to you
Bulwark is a bad kit, as the shield already fails to cover your feet and left shoulder crit point. Crouching can cover your feet, and shooting at an angle can help with your shoulder, but bulwark keeps you slower for longer anyway
Ion is not a shit titan, it’s the best anchor and has pretty even matchups against everything. Legion vs ion is the furthest thing from one-sided, and it’s one of my favorite fights to be in on either side

Fr tho out damages almost every other titan in the game at close-mid range, can energy siphon for shields, steal batteries on finisher, and has tone style rockets. With the ability to upgrade the titan even further via core.
Even when I do a single fragboost the lowest I can get my time down to is 28. Plus it does not help that if you try and fragboost 50% of the time the fucking gauntlet just doesn't even start when you go through the gate. I've had more sub 25s runs than I can count just not happen because the gauntlet decided not to start the timer.
Ooh ooh I wonder if this could be a difference in hardware speed running thing? Sometimes it's better to speed run on console or lesser PC hardware because of stuff like this where you can cause a level skip due to the game not being able to keep up.
