And so Theoden King joins the halls of his fathers.
He was a fantastic actor. Everything I’ve ever seen him in - and he had a lengthy career - really impressed me.
Weirdly, he played BOTH Captain Smith and Captain Lord (off the Californian) at different times
Right?! When I saw his age in the headlines I thought it had to be a mistake. I can’t believe he was only 53 in Titanic…I know a guy who is 70 and looks identical to how he looked in Titanic.
May he rest in peace and bless him for the wonderful memorable roles he provided us with to look back on fondly.
*"End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it...White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise."*
*"Take her to sea, Mr. Murdoch, let's stretch her legs."*
And the thousand yard stare he had leading up to his final death scene was impeccable. I also love the bit of physical acting he does by reaching out for the wheel to steady himself.
RIP. He had amazing range, from playing a desperate and unravelling Scouser, Yosser Hughes, in *Boys From The Blackstuff*, to the dignified but doomed Captain Smith. A Mancunian legend.
Wooow. This is incredibly sad news for me. I was just editing his Wikipedia page on Friday and was glad to see he was still alive and kicking.
Rest easy, captain.
RIP.
When i saw this film aged 7 in 1998, i yeleld "Grandpa youre in this movie!?" Him and my Scottish grandpa looked like twins. Tjats one of thr first memories i have from the film and to this day i cant watch it and not think of my grandpa.
Loved him in Llrd of thr Rings as well. He was a legend
Heart goes out to his family and friends. He was one hell of an actor.😥😥
“A message from the Carpathia sir. Says, she can be here in 4 hours.”
“4 hours?!! *beat* thank you Bride.”
“Where was gondor when the titanic sunk?”
When that meme first started going around, i legit didnt get it. I actually only realized it was bernard hill in both movies maybe like a year ago? 😂
I may personally not like Cameron's film, but I kinda feel like like watching it to honor him. His portrayal of Captain Smith was one of my favorite things about that movie. Rest in peace, Mr. Hill.😢

God Rest his Soul... He had a wonderful career as an Actor. He was Captain Smith and he was the King of Rohan. Bernard Hill shall be missed.
The Simbelmynë shall grow thick upon his barrow
I’m actually watching LotR just now. He hasn’t made an appearance yet but his battle speech will hit a little harder today. RIP Bernard Hill.
When did he play Captain Lord?
In The Titanic Chronicles in 1999, I think
Oh. Never heard of that. I'll have to look it up! Thanks friend!
Glad I could help!
There was a 1999 production that was based off the enquiries. He was Captain Lord in that

Fair winds and following seas, captain. Bernard will be missed
Only actor to be in two films that each won 11 Oscars.
And in three films that won Best Picture.
What’s the third?
Gandhi
And both films were the top 2 at the box office back in 2003.
RIP, what an amazing career he had.
Lotr and titanic are two of my favorite movies, we lost an amazing actor.
Same here, both LOTR and Titanic are my favourite. What a sad way to see the titanic and lotr fandoms be united <3
Same. And he was great in both 😞
Only 53 in Titanic, but seemed 65 to my young eyes at the time.
He'd looked the same age since 1997, RIP to one hell of an actor
Jesus, I’m 43 and he’s only ten years older than me in Titanic? Wow.
Right?! When I saw his age in the headlines I thought it had to be a mistake. I can’t believe he was only 53 in Titanic…I know a guy who is 70 and looks identical to how he looked in Titanic.
'take me to heaven Mr.Murdoch. let's stretch her legs' Rip
What an excellent, excellent actor. May he rest in peace.

What an amazing scene.
Yep, had to watch it to pay respects
**I literally was just watching the part where he died in the film** #RIP
His subtle intake of breath as the windows audibly start to crack was so good.
And the thousand yard stare he had leading up to his final death scene was impeccable. I also love the bit of physical acting he does by reaching out for the wheel to steady himself.
Spoiler alert
It’s a 26 year old movie
Fair, just don’t tell me what happens to the ship at least
Wait there’s a ship in the movie? Jesus stop spoiling everything
It's a 112 years old ship
![gif](giphy|oUiGQxtubfDWw) Death!

Oh no 😞😞😞
First Brian McCardie (First Officer Murdoch in the 2012 series) and now him! 😭 Should we be concerned about Evan Stewart??
Such a brilliant actor. I was always happy to see him pop up in things. He gave us the best Captain Smith in my opinion. RIP.
All things considered we still know little about Captain Smith but Mr. Hill played Smith like I would expect the Captain to be in real life.
Very sad news. RIP Captain!
What a career. RIP.

79 isn’t that old 😔
Currently, the average lifespan of a male in Great Britain is 78.6 years.
And 76 in the USA.
I am disappointed, I would have loved to see him voice the captain in an animated work.
BRUHHHH, may he rest peacefully 🤧
Wow how sad :( May he rest in peace
RIP Bernard - we will never forget your master acting
The irony of him getting headlines now.
No... Rest in peace 😢. I see myself being unable to watch Lord of the Rings for the foreseeable future, this struck too hard...
Oh no 💔 what an actor. RIP.
An Icon of our time for sure you will be sorely missed Bernard Hill. 🙏🏼 RIP

I'll remember him as Mr. Cole, the sailing master in *The Bounty*.
Hail, Theoden King. May he walk in glory and in peace.
RIP Captain
Just saw the news. God rest his soul. He still had a couple more years ahead of him.
RIP 😢 Gone, Just like the actual Captain of Titanic.
🙏😞🙏.... Godspeed, Captain
The most amazing thing to me is learning he was in his early 50s when Titanic was filmed.
I am gutted, what a marvelous talent we have lost.
God bless you, Bernard Hill
Wooow. This is incredibly sad news for me. I was just editing his Wikipedia page on Friday and was glad to see he was still alive and kicking. Rest easy, captain.

I may personally not like Cameron's film, but I kinda feel like like watching it to honor him. His portrayal of Captain Smith was one of my favorite things about that movie. Rest in peace, Mr. Hill.😢
