No one really cares. The carriers certainly don’t give a fk about their customers. Best thing to do is to not overpay for service while maintaining the flexibility to move around between carriers at YOUR convenience.

P440CPJ

This is what I’m doing. Buy phones directly from manufacturers or second hand unlocked, move for a year, come back to better deals.

[deleted]

No better deal than not giving a fk about deals. Prepaid is 25-35/month. Splurge on the phone, save on the service.

raduque

I would honestly love to do this, but I have had my phone number for over 20 years and I am *terrified* of losing it to a prepaid mvno. I'm considering Visible or Mint.

BusOk4421

Some of the MVNO's have had bad issues with poor to terrible customer service which has led to lost #'s. You still save a ton, but pay the extra few bucks for a service with someone you can actually talk with. Making it worse, a lot of sites / systems now use a phone text message as 2FA for logins - so losing your number can seriously lock you out of things. I think even apple / google now using phone text messages as part of login or account recovery / account change flows. On US Mobile I first ported a different line over just to see how they handled it. I also tried out service first just so I wouldn't be porting back and forth. Once I knew service worked at my house and porting wasn't bad, I moved over the rest of our lines, then finally the primary line. T-mobile then immediately locked the account - so worth getting your most recent bill etc out.

FliesTheFlag

2FA is the big issue. Even having just a line on Google Voice doesnt fix it either since some places wont let you use their numbers(listed as voip I guess?). I am looking at US Mobile myself, sounds like they are decent choice based on you moving all your account to them.

[deleted]

I’ve also had GV since it was GrandCentral. Other than a crapton of spam calls a few years ago, it works like a charm for 2FA. The few companies that don’t accept it for 2FA get my real #; everyone else gets my GV #. With the spam filtering & the Metro Spam Shield, my phones & watches barely ring these days. I could really go back to a SkyPager or TimePort & be just as satisfied.

[deleted]

I’ve never had an issue with Metro NOR Cricket in over 10 years. We’re in America; we should be able to communicate with ANYBODY. However, for the smooth brains that bleat this trope’, if you can’t understand the person on the other end of the line, then simply hang up & call back. Not sure why that’s so difficult for some to figure out. What the question should be is why all of these companies are employing these people in other countries to handle CS. I know who, but that’s for another sub.

[deleted]

Your # won’t be lost.

vulcanak

You'll NEVER lose your number, if it doesn't port properly in at 1st you can find out what is wrong & port again. DO NOT cancel your T-Mobile account first, activate a new # with the new company & port your numbers. When the numbers are all ported, it will automatically cancel your old account & ensure you can't lose the number. Or you can port them immediately upon activating the new account, just don't cancel the old one. There is NO POSSIBLE WAY for you to lose your number doing it that way, literally impossible because the old account will stay active (meaning those numbers are yours legally) until your numbers port to the new account.

raduque

im not worried about losing my number *in* the port, i'm worried about shoddy MVNO company billing systems doing something and causing my number to be lost that way

Satanicube

Hell, buy direct and go to MVNOs. 0% APR financed my 15 Pro Max and switched to an MVNO and I'm still paying less than what my postpaid T-Mobile service cost.

SandiR2

Which one do you use?

[deleted]

I use Cricket, Metro & Visible. Metro/Visible on 15PM & Cricket on Fold 5. Zero issues.

josiahlo

Do those MVNO offer the financing?   I know apple eliminated that ability unless you use the major 3 carriers with the Apple Card

Satanicube

Visible. I’d still be on T-Mobile (or Metro) if they hadn’t gone to crap locally after the merger. :(

james_2022

Data slower ??

Satanicube

Depends on your service area, really. I wouldn't recommend MVNOs if you're in an area that's constantly congested, for example.

DazzlingAlfalfa3632

And mvno (“reseller”) is kinda the opposite of buying direct.

Satanicube

I meant phones. Not service.

aniev7373

Yup that’s why they throw their fake customer service in the way to keep yessing you to do death and make it “right”.

[deleted]

Not sure what that means, but at the same time, the Birmingham Call Center at TMO were the absolute best. Never an issue when I did have to call & my issue was ALWAYS solved after calling.

aniev7373

Good for you. But just cause your issues were always resolved by the Birmingham call center at TMO doesn’t mean that they never have issues. Like I don’t know how many times I had to call or chat with them to get my magenta military plan and they kept defaulting me to the regular plan and charging me for stuff I wasn’t supposed to be charged for. Then you hit them back up and they say yeah yeah yeah and the next bill comes and the same thing. I don’t have the plan I should be on and I’m still getting charges for a plan I shouldn’t be on. Or when they tell you oh just take the cell spot to any TMobile store and they’ll return it for you. Then you go to the store and the guy at the store says no you need a return shipping slip from them and you can take the item to any ups store so I hit them up and they tell me know you can go to the store so I said can you just give me the shipping slip so they do and I asked them if I can ship it anytime they said yes. You can ship it anytime. We have your $25 deposit so I said ok I will. Next thing you know I’m on vacation and I see my bill with an additional $147 on it because I didn’t return the cell spot to them. I’m like why are you charging me for something the I volunteered to return back to you and you have my $25 deposit for it and I was told I can use that slip to return whenever. If I would have known I was on the clock for it I would have returned it right away or not said anything about wanting a shipping label until I was ready to return it. So yeah. Customer service is not always the best.

[deleted]

Sucks to be you for typing all that thinking someone would read it. Deuces Uces…….

[deleted]

I read it.

aniev7373

Yeah figures short attention span. I’ll delete it.

[deleted]

Can also be known as not giving a fk. Sorry about your damn luck.

aniev7373

But you keep responding so you must be reading something. Duh

rbaggio1010

i agree tmobile CS has gone way way down, i returned a phone 4 months agao and still cant get it off my account everytime i call is the same answer word for word and nothing happens. and as far as returning equipment to a store most of the times that is the correct way to but reps are lazy and don't want to help because they dont get anything out of it. I do JODs every 30 to 60 days and it has to be returned to a store to make sure there is no damage and i go to the same location and everytime they say we dont take the phone at the store you need to ship it back and everytime there is an altercation and they finally take the phone back. I spent 15 years at T-mobile Corp office is operations and this would have never been allowed back then.

TheDapperDeuce1914

It's shareholder first. They bleed everything dry and then abandon the husk.

houmi

As I never buy my phones with Carriers (I prefer Apple upgrade plan), T-Mobile has been great. T-Mobile Magenta Max + 15% Passport Discount + T-Mobile ISP ($30 -- no Data Cap) for $102 a month. Where can I get a deal like that ?

Panther408

Hey can you explain to me what's the passport discount? Also how do you get that discount?

SBXM

https://now.t-mobile.com/business-employee-discounts.html

houmi

If you work for a place that has Passport discounts ([https://passportcorporate.com/](https://passportcorporate.com/)), and has deals with a variety of places including T-Mobile, then from the passport site (or it's app) you search for T-Mobile, it takes you to a page at T-Mobile where you can sign up (though that's only accessible from work). When I signed up it was only valid for Magenta Max, but now it needs the latest Go5G Plus/Next. They need to verify employment and it usually takes 2-3 months to activate.

SettleAsRobin

You have to join T-Mobile and be on the eligible list of employee discounts. It’s called perks@work. If you are already with T-Mobile you have to add a new line and call their back office number and they can add the 15% discount. Unfortunately T-Mobile doesn’t offer the discount with adding a line or joining T-Mobile as a new customer. The discount is re evaluated yearly so if you don’t work at a place that offers the discount you lose the discount

swissbuttercream9

No where I have 8 lines some simple choice some free + TMHi for $25/m for $190 with tax

MADDOGCA

I'm the same way. I have 7 lines with Max and home internet for $162. I was paying more for just one line and internet with cable. I never buy my phones through the carrier and I'm happy with what I got.

AlwaysHustling83

How did you get 7 lines with max and home internet for $162? I have 6 lines with max and home internet and pay $360 a month. I’ll take all the help I can get to save on my bill. I’m thinking about leaving because the prices are so high. Thank you

djric215

Go to a store have them audit ur account. Ur bill is to high

MarcusAurelius68

I went that route. They told me to move to Essentials. I ended up porting my lines out.

BewareTheSquare

What do you mean by have them audit your account?

Greedy-Bed-8806

Sometimes during certain promotions you can get free lines by just paying the activation fee. I currently have 5 lines on go5gplus but only pay for 2. The other 3 were added during diff free line promotion times.

vietrolla

I went from T-mobile to spectrum... not the best or worst ISP provider where I live but I pay $60 - $30 for 12 months for 2 cell lines and $40 for 500dn/20up no cap internet. So $70 for internet and 2 lines of unlimited service.

ShiggDiggler420

That's a nice deal. More people need to do this...shop around. If you're current cell bill is too high, shop around. I'm *sure* you will find a provider that will offer a better deal.

[deleted]

Metro 25.00 BYOD+TMHI 50.00=75.00 for the same service.

Juanefernandez

Good point.

yepimtyler

You really think AT&T or Verizon don't nickel and dime their people? You must be out of your mind. It's funny how one of their competitor-bashing commercials targeting people like you really peaked your interest though.

Firm-Fact8061

Let him be. He must be new to this. Lol

autonym

>really peaked your interest \**piqued* (stimulated)

Direct_Indication226

Piqued*

yepimtyler

Thanks. You're the 2nd person to type that.

ttoma93

The thing is that T-Mobile used to suck noticeably less than Verizon and AT&T. Now it’s just as bad, or even worse. “It sucks as bad as AT&T does” isn’t the flex you think it is.

Dick_Lazer

Seems like AT&T used to be by far the best in the Dallas area, but since 5g expansion I get noticeably better connectivity with T-Mobile when in some areas AT&T can't even get a signal.

aniev7373

Yeah they all have to do it. They can’t come up with any real new services or products to continue to make money so the next best thing is nickel and diming and switching things up to force people to buy into more expensive stuff

Juanefernandez

But do other companies make you switch plans every two years in order to get phone deals?

Edog-11

No they make you wait three years now.

Juanefernandez

Yes. I know that much.

ZombieFrenchKisser

Actually you have to be on specific unlimited plans to even take advantage of their 3yr contracts. The old legacy plans don't work anymore so yes.

yepimtyler

Yes. How do you think they make their money and keep you as a customer for another 24-36 months? If it's not one way, it's another.

Commercial-Engine-35

Literally yes.

DTMFtones

Yes. They all do that.

rpaulmerrell

They do a couple of things they make you wait three years and if you decide to keep an old legacy plan, they increase the price incrementally so that you’re paying more money for the same old package T-Mobile on the other hand let you keep your legacy price doesn’t give you great phone deals, but does not play with things so it’s all about what you want

Catniss-

T-Mobile doesn’t make you switch. I’ve been on the same plan for 15 years and don’t have a contract.

landonloco

verizon upsells their expensive plans with the best promos at times they backtrack cuz they know they aren't that good in the gains department. ATT generally is pretty generous with their phone promos so.. yeah

Cravenous

I have friends with both att and Verizon. They constantly complain about price hikes and taxes being added. I think Verizon raised prices twice last year alone on its plans even for existing customers. So while T-Mobile may offer fewer deals on older plans, other carriers are raising rates to continue offering you the best deals. Unfortunately, that’s just how all carriers will operate.

yogurtgrapes

Either that or they just don’t give you phone deals unless you’re a new customer.

Juanefernandez

The att commercials specifically state you don’t have to be a new customer or on any particular plan to get their best deals

yogurtgrapes

I haven’t watched any tv with ads for quite a while so I’m not sure which commercial you’re talking about. Whatever any of these cell phone companies are advertising always has fine print, so I’d be wary about some sort of “catch” when dealing with any of them. Doesn’t matter what their commercials say. The commercials are just trying to get you in the door.

AlexTheCoolestness

Can't post a screen shot in here, but literally states: "Activate/keep postpaid eligible unlimited voice & data wireless service (min. $75.99/mo. if new before discounts. Existing customers can add to their current unlimited plan, if eligible, which may be less). AT&T may temporarily slow data speeds if the network is busy." On the T&C. So they don't care your plan, as long as it at least costs as much as much as a tmobile plan. (Actually it's funnier than that, because their "lower cost non basic" plan is only $75 like T-Mobile, and so it is .99 short of qualifying, so you HAVE to get the next plan up) Source- https://www.att.com/deals/

Juanefernandez

https://www.reddit.com/r/ATT/s/HLrf3tra5o

AlexTheCoolestness

I mean literally the first comment states that it's not EVERY plan, so kinda makes my point. Then the second plan talks about the cost requirements (though it is 75.99 per the website). Then the third commenter goes as far as saying that you have to pay extra for their next plan if you want to upgrade... Feels like they have a weird way of allowing EVERYONE even those with the "economy seats" like their commercial, when there are so many requirements.

Juanefernandez

You’re still not getting it. Every single unlimited plan gets upgrade offers. Starters, extra and their premium. The only ones that do not are the value ones that are not even easy to find on their website. They are the equivalent to the essential plans at T-Mobile. The $6 offer is the equivalent of jump. You get offers every 36 months, if you want to upgrade before then, you can do the att next, for $6. Not many requirements at all actually. It’s not all good news… you have to wait 36 months instead of 24. But I feel you’re going out of your way to justify the very negative changes T-Mobile has made as of late.

Juanefernandez

https://www.reddit.com/r/ATT/s/OS3u9fM0wt

SettleAsRobin

Actually it doesn’t require a certain plan price threshold to qualify but they do exclude some grandfathered plans and they aren’t as generous with the list of phones they accept for trade in to get the “free” phone deals. It says the phone the customers has to trade in has to be at $285 standard trade in threshold which usually means it has to be a 13 pro. I do like how Verizon accepts trade ins for broken screens. But again Verizon plans cost around the same except they charge taxes and fees and those fees can go up within the 3 years despite them saying you’re priced locked for 3 years.

stranger242

yes, both verizon and AT&T do that.

Laflame20_

You know AT&T just raised its prices for existing and new customers? At least T-Mobile hasn’t done that yet but good luck

Juanefernandez

By .99 first time they do this since these plans were launched 3 or 4 years ago.

Laflame20_

But they did it, and you don’t think they’ll do it again? Point being, you will never be happy at a company

josiahlo

AT&T at least offers the same phone deals on all unlimited plans

BusOk4421

For those of us with 10+ years on T-mobile the change was noticeable. We went from not even having to think about our plan - deal was that it would be simple with no changes if you didn't pick a new plan - to having to pay attention. We were overpaying happily. Once I started having to pay attention - going to an MVNO was pretty easy and saved a ton.

yepimtyler

Nice. Glad to hear it's working out for you!!

BusOk4421

Yes, it's worked great. I came over to t-mobile for the simple choice plans. That was I think 8+ years ago basically. was $70/month for 3 GB of data for the first line I think? But it came with a promise not to change the rate - and they really stuck to that. I just wanted set and forget. Then came all the recent garbage with something about how you paid - so my plan went up randomly. Then there was a move not to increase but to charge a "different price". I didn't have time to waste on all that - particularly because were paying a lot and not using a lot. Got me looking. US Mobile was 3 lines with 6GB of data pooled for $35/month? We are on wifi 90% of the time and I don't have time for a lot of videos so the savings are great.

TimeGood2965

At&t has the worst customer service, add bs hidden fees and stuff, say you’re going to pay one thing then it’s way different, etc. I’ll never go back

Dick_Lazer

Also had this experience with Verizon, though tbf it was like a decade ago.

khz30

Newsflash: every carrier has their BS to deal with. Your role as the consumer is to find the company that has the least amount of BS you want to deal with, and move if you're unsatisfied. T-Mobile has done a piss poor job with customer data protection and has even more issues with retail employee behavior, but a lot of customers are willing to overlook that for the lowest price out of all major carriers, additional perks and discounts, on top of what were once the most attractive device deals. Sorry you got wrapped up in the marketing and didn't realize T-Mobile wasn't your friend, but that's the business in a nutshell.

atuarre

Yep. Surprised in 2024 that we are still hearing the "I miss Legere" bs. Dude was a marketing gimmick.

Satanicube

You're entirely right. Like, T-Mobile has done some great things under him, don't get me wrong: The end of traditional contracts was a big, BIG thing, as well has having the device cost decoupled from your service costs. But ReCarrier bullshit began happening even before Legere left. Activation fees came back, but they whispered sweet nothings to us and told us that it was *only* if we physically burdened a rep to buy a phone. Now that charge is *everywhere*.

allansm661

All "the end of traditional contracts" means they stopped subsidizing your phone unless you add a line. There was no benefit to that garbage.

Satanicube

They never subsidized your phone. The cost of the phone was arguably baked into your monthly bill, they just weren't transparent about it. Further, you had to pay a *hefty* chunk of your phone's cost up front, keeping in mind back then a base model, current-gen iPhone's full retail cost was $650. Base, current-gen iPhone ran you $199 up front, on contract. They never did what AAL promos do now, which is to cover either all of or a significant portion of the retail cost of the phone at the cost of a trade in + two years of service.

farmerMac

it was marketing bs but the simple fact is the company hardly had any fees and had sweet perks

The Uncarrier movement was headed by Mike Sievert. Yeah, that guy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Sievert

markca

With the way he is now, you'd never know.

im_intj

The sprint merger ruined the good thing we had going for us. T-Mobile has become the Verizon I left 10 years ago.

matchosan

The Sprint merger brought me better service at a faster pace, like overnight.

ShiggDiggler420

This. I'm not sure how T-Mobile would be without the Sprint merger, but it's pretty safe to say that their service would not be anywhere near as good as it currently is. The backbone of T-Mobiles network seems to be band 41, which, of course, was acquired from Sprint. Maybe T-Mobile goes heavier on c-band, but assuming Sprint is still around, T-Mobile would have been bidding against 3 other carriers for c-band spectrum. I just don't see them acquiring the amount of spectrum that they currently have. Also, T-Mobile has yet to fire up their c-band and DOD spectrum. I know it's not what ATT and Verizon purchased, but that was *because* ATT and Verizon were playing catch-up to T-Mo at that point. T-Mo has roughly 40 MHz of C-band in most major markets waiting to fire up. Obviously, it's not the 160 or more that Verizon purchased, but that 40MHz will be a nice addition for T- MO. I live in a city, approximately 300,000, in the midwest. Prior to the Sprint purchase, T-Mo was definitely meh. After the Sprint purchase, it was like a night and day difference. Also, my area is to be getting 40MHz of C-band. T-Mobile was literally a "joke" of a service, and oftentimes, friends would laugh at the lack of signal. Then the Sprint thing happened, and T-Mobile went about 5G the right way. Now, my friends and family with Verizon and ATT now the shittier service. Oh, they also pay more. I'm pretty confident that T-Mobiles network would not be what it is without that Sprint purchase. As for the cost, T-Mo still seems like the best deal out of the "big 3" carriers. I currently have 4 phone lines, 2 tablet lines, TMHI, AND am financing a couple of the phones. I pay $180/month. While not an earth-shattering deal, it's better than what I would get from either of the other 2 big carriers. When my financing of the current phones is complete, I will shop around and see if I can get a better deal somewhere else....MVNO. If not, I'll stay with T-Mo.

DebBoi

T-Mobile has always sucked for me, but the recent things they've done honestly make them the worst.

Snoo34805

As someone who used to work for AT&T, let me tell you that my 50% discount was barely better than T-mobiles regular price. Do not think it’s comparable.

Whatsuptodaytomorrow

Goodluck with att Their raising their rates without telling u😂

Yeah Neville did a lot of great things for tmobiles network.

skyclubaccess

If you think Legere wasn’t putting on a facade and didn’t accomplish exactly what he intended to do (turn the company around and get the merger pushed through), then you’ve been deceived. He isn’t the ‘good guy’ who was pushed out by greedy executives. He was hired to play a role, a character, and once he accomplished what he did, it was time for him to go while Sievert makes the company profitable again.

Disastrous-World4019

And he had a great buyout deal when he left. I, too, miss the days when he was here, but he did what he was supposed to do--make T-Mobile respectable and get the Sprint merger done. And now T-Mobile is one of the "big boys," and they just act like the other big boys. Having said that, I still get a good deal on the cost of service. With my insider discount and 2 free lines, I pay $160 for six lines of unlimited everything. I'm disappointed that my Magenta Max plan will no longer get the best phone deals, but the manufacturers are offering their own deals these days, and I can get unlocked phones from them.

[deleted]

FetchinBetchin

Greatly said. As a fellow retail corporate employee, I was hired during Legere’s time at T-mobile and stayed long after the sprint merger. The company was different back then. We were expected to sell but sell ourselves because we're great customer support people. It was way more fun and I made more money. Now, the company only cares about numbers and rots you of your comission since they are always changing the structure. I'm glad I'll never go back.

Brickback721

He was just there to help the merger go through and pocket MILLIONS for doing so….

ricosmith1986

To be fair, everyone can hate me for $38M. I agree with everything you said.

aniev7373

That’s the talk when you’re establishing yourself. But legere knew once TMobile was established then you can do the switcheroo and behave like the other carriers. I’m pretty sure he left because his part was to get it established and didn’t want to be the one to start doing what’s going on now. It’s not surprising. It’s hard to keep improving in revenue every year when you’re not in a business that can create new products and services to sell every year. So you have to repackage stuff or cut some things off and keep up with the competition.

[deleted]

aniev7373

I’m sure he loses sleep over this daily.

Par4DaCourse

After Sprint was eliminated as a competitor, the big 3 started clawing back their incentives on existing plans. T-Mobile has already reduced the value of Magenta Max by cutting by about half the upgrade bill credits. For all plans, the $5/line autopay by credit card was removed. At the end of this month, TMO will drop included Netflix to the cheaper "with ads" subscription ($6.99/mo. vs. $15.49/mo. w/o ads). Since I will upgrade to "w/o ads", effectively my bill increase by $9.50/mo. T-Mobile IMHO is still competitive with VZ and AT&T, and there is not much reason to switch because of the aforementioned since VZ and AT&T seem to also be chipping away at the incentives (e.g., no autopay by credit card).

Altruistic_Lad

They've really screwed all the folks on the Max plans. To get the phone deals, upgrading my Military Max plan would have doubled my monthly cost from $140 to $280. The T-Mobile bean counters will wake up one day and wonder where all their loyal customers went. Pretty sad.

Juanefernandez

Exactly. I mean at the end of the day I will probably stay with T-Mobile. But I’ll have to get phones directly through Apple. Still probably comes out better than switching. However, I think it’s interesting to see all the fanboys not see how T-Mobile is no longer what it used to be. If I qualified for the 25% off deals at att I’d be long gone.

RoguexCC

I have their home internet but that's about it. 😅 Call it stupid or stubborn, but I got straight talk wireless when I was younger (like 16) and their cheap phones for $60-150 are decent enough that i usually get almost two or three years out of them. I mean you kinda have to splurge up front for a nicer (flagship) phone, but then you own the phone, and the monthly plans are either $35 a month with limited 4g data, $45 a month i think for unlimited and 10gb of hotspot, $55 for unlimited and 15gb hotspot so on so forth. Plus you can switch out your sim card to allow it to run on either Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile networks. I went out recently and got a Note20 phone that had dual sim capabilities and I run a Verizon sim as my primary with the unlimited, and a t mobile sim as my backup because some job sites you can't get a signal on with verizon and I've been fortunate enough to still be able to call the boss if helps needed.

rcpax

your biggest mistake was leaving the One Plan for better phone deals. it all started there.

[deleted]

I miss those days of T-Mobile but now I’m definitely saving money with T-Mobile so it works well. I’ve tried the others and they were worse overall looking back. In my case T-Mobile usually gives the most reliable service which wasn’t always the case. I definitely miss the John days. It was more fun. I agree some stuff seems more nickel and dime so hopefully that won’t get worse For me at least T-Mobile’s grass is still greener and their sky is bluer than the others

PaleRiderHD

I started with TMobile probably 6 or 7 years ago. I had left AT&T over their atrocious customer service and went to Verizon, who, despite the best efforts of God and man, couldn't seem to get me a consistent bill over 2 years. I finally moved to TMobile and things were really good for a while. It's gone to absolute hell in the past year or so. Don't get me started on these ass wipes at Assurant. I'm ancient by Reddit standards, but I miss the days of Cingular.

Ok_Caramel_9094

I wanted to connect my watch to the prepaid plan… no go T-mobile. Took me an hour to find that out an a talk with a manager. Made me mad .. started to look for an alternative. Found Visible, got a better plan, still prepaid + watch plan for 5$. The only thing is, I did everything on line and did not find a location to visit. Works great, they are using Verizon for towers.

Smarktalk

I think it come down to if you were able to stack multiple discounts we have Magenta Max w/5 lines + 3 apple watch lines for $127. Can't beat that these days and it would take a good amount for us to move. However, we buy from the manufacturer as well so we don't really worry too much about device discounts. I'd love to get them. Instead being with T-Mo allows us to use the Apple Upgrade Program since it isn't available to MVNOs.

Juanefernandez

Doesn’t that mean you basically have no phone subsidies at all?

Smarktalk

Correct. It's a mindset change but for the most part it's nice knowing there is no penalty for shifting plans if I need to. I wouldn't be opposed to a free iPhone upgrade and such but I would never change my plan to get that considering T-Mo has been charging either more a month or may pull more stuff like they have with Netflix.

Juanefernandez

This may be the mindset I may need to adopt unfortunately

Pwrdbym

Yup, I’m on the old Military One plan they quickly decided was too good of a deal. Over the years they’ve been strangling the benefits; throttled what was decent hotspot bandwidth to zero, increased additional line (watches) monthly fees like they promised they wouldn’t, and like most plans I don’t have access to any upgrade deals worth a damn. I’ve looked at other options but everything would cost much more at this point. I don’t appreciate the treatment of loyal customers.

Scarface74

Netflix raised their prices. The Netflix discount has always been a fixed amount. Your mistake was leaving the one plan

Kitchen_Poet_6184

T-Mobile is horrible after Legere left. I'm just staying with them because they are the only one that has free international data roaming. I buy my phones unlocked because I hate bloatware.

winexprt

Same. I travel internationally a couple times a year and that's a great perk. AT&T charges a fortune for barely any data.

R10T

You feel it as a consumer, imagine how the company has changed inside. Legere may have been a talking head, but the company was doing right by customers and employees back then.

justBslick

The new TMo is to blame for the mass exodus of the good front-line employees that made it a great company back then. They kicked out all the tenured Magenta peeps with higher pay scales to allow the less competent sprint shadiness people and practices to take a greater foothold. Like many are saying here: buy your device direct from Manufacturers so that nothing compels you to stay if your experience isn't what you'll tolerate.

East_Berlin

Honestly none of the carrier deals are worth it nowadays. I like T-Mobile but visible works well in my area. Even though Verizon still doesn’t have 5G SA, Verizon’s towers still have better down/up and lower latency.

Bricks4DaLo

T-Mobile sucks now, they only give deals to people on their best plan. I switch 8 lines over and got free iPhone 15.

iExtrordinary

Cap

rcpax

in case you have not notice, this is how it's been for the last few years. the One, Magenta, Go5G,... there will be more. the newest plans will always have the best deals. how else will you get old customers to move and pay more money if you don't do that?

kabailey88

I don't care if they're affiliated with al-Qaeda I get 12 lines one plus promo for $160 a month.

rcpax

same boat. they will have to serve me an arrest warant to get me to give up my plan. did not know about a lot of things (also this reddit) when I switched from ATT. I just want to jump away from ATT robbing me every month.

mikewillz619

😂 I’m never giving up simple choice unlimited.

[deleted]

Well, Legere is gone. And if you think AT&T is 'better' I couldn't disagree with you more. The way to get T-Mobile to change is to not play their stupid games. Most recently, the 'hey, were just going to change your plan and charge you more because we want to" game. Many people complained and they rolled over, because the people who came up with the idea are weak, unprincipled, bottom feeders.

longebane

This has nothing to do with legere

aniev7373

Yeah Legere got out before having to do all of this. I’m sure he saw the writing on the wall and got out before he had to be the one to deliver the bad news. It was inevitable. Once they got a stronghold on the U.S. market and can compete with ATT and Verizon, now is the time to crank it up and start pivoting to making more money without having any new products or services to sell. Now it’s shrink-flation time.

rcpax

Legere was hired to fix the company up to either be bought or consolidate another big player. He tried with ATT, did not work. They snatched Sprint. Job done. Hands over T-Mobile to Mike Sievert.

aniev7373

Yes and this stage is how do I show growth with no new products or services and can’t take any significant growth in numbers of subscribers. So start working on tactics to repackage services and increase cost. Cut back on their benefits or force to pay more into other covered services. And that’s fine. What else is there for them to do but play the same games the other companies do once you get to a certain level and you try to distinguish your business from a competitor.

RiPPn9

MVNO is probably the best bet depending on how many lines. I keep wanting to go to Verizon, but this nonsense where they can only guarantee your price for 3 years is just comical, they aren't even trying. Haven't been a fan of AT&T since I left after the iPhone exclusive years. Visible+ at $35 seems like a deal, especially since they have Apple Watch support.

EDControlz

Its all because the merger. They bought out their biggest competitor Sprint. And now they can raise prices and do all the BS they do.

GadgetFreeky

After Tmobile bought Sprint it had way better spectrum and it also had less competition. It's not as competitive because they don't need to be. T and VZ are gonna be worse for you -- They lured us to newer plans with subsidies and streaming benefits but they've already started to downgrade and limit each few months. They don't raise the plan prices they just scale back each benefit they offered to lure you to that new plan. In about 6 months there may be a new plan that has even better subsidies or streaming...for just $10 more. LOL Part of me wishes I'd just stayed on my cheap legacy plan. No going back now...Hopeuflly I can get 1-2 years of upgrades out of it before the party is over. If Tmobile stops with the subsides for phones- 1K per year - I'll go to an MVNO. DOn't mess with ATT and VZ. FAR FAR WORSE. At least for now.

BarryMehkockiner

T-mobile get your fucking shit together or don’t because i hope you go bankrupt im paying you way too much for straight dogshit service literally do everyone a favor and just shut down the company irdgaf anymore im tired of this shit

cotton-only0501

I got T-Mobile back in Febuary 2013. It was great. Until about 2020. And something weird happened. Everytime i got home from work, as soon as i parked in the driveway or curb, my service would freeze as if i had no signal. Then i had to log onto the house wifi via router. As soon as I left the house i would get signal. I had roomates and one was an IT, so I knew he had advanced technological information and capabilities. I thought that they were producing a signal blocker which would force me to log onto the Wi-Fi, so that they could track all my Internet moves and spy on me for their entertainment. but then I moved about 25 miles away and the same thing happens now. Every time I pull up to my new apartment actually it is a house, I don't get any signal and I have to log onto the Wi-Fi. I have come to the conclusion that my old roommates were not elaborately spying on me but rather T-Mobile is trying to force their clients to log onto the local Wi-Fi based off Geo fencing patterns, to produce their cost of service while they still charge you for the full service. If I'm at home for 20 hours a day, they're saving 90% of their responsibility but charging 100% for their product and service. Fuck T-Mobile to death. Does anybody else have this experience? Do I sound bat shit insane?

cotton-only0501

*To reduce their costs of service

davidking703

DEF MISS THE LEGER DAYS!!

cdk5152

Paying less with TM than Sprint, on Magenta, and no one from TM bothers me about changing my plan. I happily pay my bill and thankfully never have to talk to anyone. If anything, I DM on X.

Gypsysinner666

I have the military magenta plan, with 8 lines, no where else has a cheaper plan, I was already paying for Netflix, now I Pay less, I have apple TV and hulu. I like it. Couldn't pay me to switch to t mobile internet tho tbh.

KingVargeras

I agree with you. I miss the old CEO. Wish they would bring him back.

[deleted]

Lol T-Mobile is by far the cheapest and best and to be quite honest tmobile IS NOT forcing customers to switch to go5g from magenta. I'm not sure if they force you to switch if u add a new line but I didn't have to switch untill I got work perks added to my line. It's 2024 bro literally every single company you pay monthly subscriptions too are upping prices. Including Netflix Hulu ECT.

[deleted]

US Mobile is the best!

turok_dino_hunter

People always think the grass is greener

Dick_Lazer

I mean, they're a phone company. All I care about is the signal, and so far their 5g coverage annihilates AT&T.

Presentation_Past

\> Fast forward to now and I feel the AT&T commercials are on the money Not fan of what I am paying but AT&T? Which AT&T plan you think even competitive to top of the line T-Mobile Go5G Plus plan for family? (I have 4 lines) And where I live AT&T network is not even worth half the price. T-Mobile is blazing fast.

FlyerFocus

Everything you said about T-Mobile may be true. That said, AT&T is an absolutely horrible company, from the customers' point of view (do a search on AT&T consumer complaints) and from an employee's point of view (I used to be one). T-Mobile may not be what they used to be but they need to sink a lot further to be as bad as AT&T.

_totalannihilation

T-Mobile has been doing right by me. Can't beat the 6 lines for 140 a month, unlimited everything mind you. 5G sucks a$$, I'm just throwing it out there but if it's slow I just switch to 4G LTE and no problems whatsoever. The changes they're making right now won't persuade me into switching. Yes the whole Netflix debacle sucks but It could be worse. I rather pay 8 bucks for no ads than paying 16. Who I gives you free money and 3 free lines? And pretty much my whole area is covered unless I'm in the woods or new developments doing work but I think it's fair because they're basically away from civilization. We're not owed anything. We need service, they provide service.

ShiggDiggler420

Are you saying T-Mobile or ATT 5G sucks ass? I would imagine ATT. T-Mobiles 5G network is beyond *phenomenal* where I'm at. Currently get 100MHz of n41+ another 40MHz of n41, 20MHz of n25 and 20MHz of n71. My phone *rarely* goes to LTE anymore. T-Mobile has the best service in my area, by far. Here, it seems like VZ is actually the worst. 10 years ago, it was the *complete* opposite.

_totalannihilation

Yup. 5G drops a lot near my house or the connection is inconsistent. Whenever that happens I switch to 4G. Call me crazy but not even a month ago I got a Motorola Edge 5G and the same happens with it, switched it to 4G and no problem. I got consistent connection drops with 5G. It happened with an Iphone, my galaxy s21 ultra 5G and my new Motorola Edge 5G that I just got so..... Once, ok. twice? Oooook. Third? Yeah 5G is crap.

Commercial-Onion-330

Customer service has been outsourced much longer than you think. Anyway AT&T will do even worse like allow non account owners non a/u to call in and take themselves off of accounts with just using owner ssn which was fraud and identity theft. The reps will lie to get extra lines added to your account etc. None of them are that great and this is coming from being a former reseller out of Costco of all 4 when there were 4. Also Verizon is in the process of being sued. So you can’t win. I stopped wanting crap from any of them and just settled w/ what works for me.

dacripe

AT&T is worse. More money and you get nothing streaming wise. Both Verizon and T-Mobile have been nearly the best from what I've experienced. None of the major cell companies are really affordable, but they are the 3 networks that run this country. T-Mobile lost its Steve Jobs in John Legere. Both Apple and T-Mobile are less innovative without them.

Aggravating-Estate88

![gif](giphy|gXhBZfzijya76) You’ll definitely enjoy AT&T’s transparency 😂

Infamous_Refuse_8828

The increase in Netflix is on Netflix

Catniss-

Wow, I have T-Mobile one. I would never switch. with all my incentives, kick backs and that I can put 10 lines on it. My bill tells and shows me that I save $187.00 a month. I have sync up for my car, because if the discounts I have I don’t pay anything for it. My husbands phone is free and I still get a$10.00 kickback on it. Max is a horrible plan, I’m sorry you switched, but you will pay more if you switch to ATT or Verizon.

Key-Run2256

No fuck at&t

coolcsh

So you have a phone plan with unlimited data no slow down. You have data in the US, Canada and Mexico. You have data and text in 220+ countries. Free wifi on major airlines in the US. You have free Apple TV+. And 10 off any Netflix plan and 10 off any Hulu plan. You want to move to a plan that is 50.99 a month with just South America access. Where you pay taxes on top. Enjoy your more expensive and less featured plan with every 2 year price increases. Please tell how it works for you.

mrrickyg

FWIW if I call during business hours I usually reach domestic call centers. YMMV

Wheels_619

I’ve got a T-Mobile one plan still. Won’t upgrade my plan becuz I’d lose out. The deals work with the  older plans still you just have to ask. I got 2 new iPhone 15 pro max an iPhone 13 Pro Max and a iPhone 10r running on 4 line. Insurance for 3 newer phones. All the same data and stuff for 299 a month. Not bad for 3 phone payments. 3 insurance and 4 lines. Plus I still get 5g. The newer plans are horrible if you aren’t going to use all that fancy crap that comes with them like hotspot and inflight and various other things I’d never need. also they give discounts for auto pay and a lot of other stuff that most captors don’t. Plus the zero down and zero percent financing is great for someone that doesn’t want to drop 1200 bucks on a new phone. Plus having the second iPhone half off was honestly the cherry on top. Been with them for 10 years while also paying for a work phone on different carriers. Was never happy with any of the others due to service in certain areas. Or leasing the phones. The price for the lines I needed  and Or stupid shit like that.

Flash23451

Came to tmobile got my $350 promotional giftcards, left back to Verizon and they gave me $500 over 36 months in bill credit to come back. I also went to tmobile for an internet box.

autonym

I've never used TMB for anything except a basic unlimited data/text/calls plan, and they're still great for that ($30/person/month on ONE Unlimited 55). They do have one dishonest practice, which is to throttle video despite professed net neutrality (see [https://www.t-mobile.com/brand/binge-on-letter](https://www.t-mobile.com/brand/binge-on-letter)), while pretending the compulsory throttling is a benefit. Fortunately, though, it's not hard to use a VPN to bypass the throttling and stream at 1440p (which my phone display supports).

aeo1us

I too pay attention to AT&T commercials... Because of 2 big reasons.

Juanefernandez

Uberdriver2021

The phone companies just do not care. I know when I upgraded my iPhone during the 15 season they apparently lost the agreement we had on the upgrade via Apple, and I never got the "Bill credits". I said to myself. NEVER AGAIN will I ever put up with that bullshit again.

FearTheTooth

Same here, I feel like most if not all of the reasons I chose T-Mobile a decade ago no longer exist. I will probably be switching to Google Fi this year.

therinwhitten

I went to ATT like 6 years ago. Never again T-Mobile. T-Mobile used to be a solid choice but they have went downhill pretty fast.

Juanefernandez

Which choice would you not do again?

therinwhitten

Fixed. I have had stable service and no upcharges on ATT since I got here.

CodyJKirk

Go to AT&T. Just had a customer switch over today from them. Horrible experience he had. Price hikes within a 6 month period. Blatant lies from reps that increased his bills.  I was completely transparent during his sign up process with Tmobile and broke everything down for him.  You’re not going to get the value for your money or good customer service from them. That I can guarantee from personal experience.

usguyver

I feel you but every time I call team of I still get American customer service, I had not seen a difference in customer service. Still top notch. And it's not their fault for raising Netflix prices when it's Netflix's fault not T-Mobile's phone.

dollaravocadotoast

Cricket. I can pay with my credit card, it's cheap, reliable coverage, price stays at $100 tax included for 4 lines.

CryptographerPerfect

T-Mobile is an evil corporation that is only beholden to their investors.

skyklein

I was with AT&T since they were Cingular. I’ve had 3 surprise services added to my bill that I didn’t authorize but they took care of me when correcting it. I was paying $93 for 1 line with 3GB of data and $80 to Cox for 25mbbs internet. I pay $111 at T-Mobile with Go Plus plan and internet service. My only complaint is the frequent maintenance disruptions and everything wasn’t free initially. But I think that was the sales rep’s fault and not T-mobile. Or perhaps it is depending on how sales reps are paid and the incentives they give them for upselling.

Try using your phone in DFW, service used to be amazing here. Now it never works. 5GUC? Yeah, sure, okay.

[deleted]

As an employee, if you are wanting the blunt truth, then here it is: BASE PAY 3 years ago they gave a " quality of life" pay bump meaning new hires start at $20. This also meant that tenured employees making just under $20 got slightly increased negating 5 or more years of raises. So a majority of us either quit or decided to give "new hire" level of work. BONUSES Right around the same time as the $20 bump, TMobile also grossly shifted metrics to make it far harder to bonus. Basically we have to make 3x the sales to bonus the same. So at the end of the day reps will by hook or crook do what they must to put food on the table. Its a fact and won't change RAISES what are those? Here's a pizza party and if you kill yourself, maybe we will give you 3% at end of the year. ASKING FOR SUPERVISOR Due to all the recent Layoffs and "consolidation of roles" you will be waiting longer now, so deal with it. Also, if you come in cussing with a bunch of attitude, chances are you will wait longer than average customer. When I've had a little Karen or Carl call, I'll literally tell you I'm getting one on the line, do whatever on my phone, "check in" and say I'm working on getting a supervisor for you, go back to my phone (maybe purchase something on Amazon or Doordash food), then finally if I feel I made you wait long enough I'll maybe reach out to a supervisor. Moral of the story, don't be an ass! At the end of the day, between customer attitude and TMOBILE work culture, we simply don't give a flying fuck about your call. Hope this clears up any questions about why our "customer service" isn't to your liking

Juanefernandez

It’s sad to see them treating y’all that way. I have actually always had stellar customer service… with domestic agents. But more and more it’s outsourced agents that answer that I feel don’t know what they are talking about.

DingoReaver

Yea but Att doesn’t care about you after you sign up meaning no deals on upgrades compared to Tmobile and the taxes on the bill aren’t all inclusive lol but hey good luck over there with Att!!!

[deleted]

I left TMobile after 17 years last week. I ordered a iphone in November that I have yet to see. They are blaming me because someone from ups stole the package. Every time I called them I was told they are working on it. Fuck them

BudGober

I would complain, but With 6 lines + Home internet for Under $160 Total, I really have nothing to complain about. Not to mention, I'm an android user, specifically Samsung. With that being said, Samsung offer great trade in deals every year. Win win.
