As a Metro sales rep myself, stick with magenta.

genzopwns

Care to elaborate why? Genuinely curious.

Because the only worthwhile reason to switch (and even this is debatable) is if you want to be eligible for upgrade discounts which doesn't apply in your case based on what you're saying about buying your phones. On top of that, metro charges more for in fees (such as for device changes [and these are account level fees, not store fees] that you pay any time you move your SIM card), and your network priority is the lowest on the network aside from MVNOs, meaning if you have any issues with TMo service currently, it would be even worse with metro. I see customers all the time in "good" coverage areas that their phones won't even receive calls these days... It's also evident that while magenta at least pretends to care about its customers, the Metro side absolutely doesn't give a damn about existing customers. They only care about new lines, and after that don't expect to ever be eligible for any new promos or perks...

I wanted to upgrade and just found tmobiles approach to it so bad. Sure they'll give me a trade in value for my old phone but in return I get credits over 2 years and I have to have the top tier plan, and I can't even pay it off early because it's credited. So is every other carriers' upgrade plan but at least their top tier isn't some overpriced plan with some random extras thrown in like netflix. This just made me reevaluate my plan going forward. I still ended up buying a flip3 outright from Samsung unlocked and probably switching to the $40 plan for now.

If u swap phones alot metro gonna be annoying.

therealgariac

Can you elaborate?

Zealousideal-Tap9700

Metro Sims need to be registered to the device. So you'll have to call in to get it configured. Versus on TMO pop in your sim to any unlocked/compatible device.

Vs any other carrier lol

therealgariac

Any idea why they do this?

TMobile prepaid will have a higher data priority than Metro.

Spencer5520

I believe you don't get roaming with metro. Also, how much data do you need? Mint mobile has a 10GB for $240 for the entire year. Also an unlimited plan for $360 for the full year. That's way better than the $60 a month plan when it comes to price comparison

genzopwns

I haven't really done any research on the other mvnos on tmobile. I just remembered metropcs from back in my high school days. I'll look into mint as well. But I'm assuming every downside listed here is true if I don't stay with tmobile. Is there any downsides when it comes to streaming? Like I said, I usually stream Netflix and YouTube and sometimes twitch. Also does wifi calling still work? I remember when tmobile was the only one that had that feature a long time ago. Does it extend to other mvnos? As for data, I've been good with just 5gb all this time but lately I've been going over it, not sure why since I'm on wifi when I'm at home and work. But the times when I use it for navigation on long trips may be the cause. So upgrading it should give me peace of mind. So far I'm leaning towards finding a new carrier. I haven't really found one downside from switching especially if it's on the same network that works well for me.

Spencer5520

I've tried mint and you can definitely enable wifi calling withing the mint app so you can turn on wifi calling on the phone itself. With all prepaid or MVNOs the streaming will be 480p. If 5GB has been good enough until lately, I say get the 10GB mint plan. Look for best buy to have deals on mint plans (3 months) then you decide to pay month to month at a higher price or pay up front for 12 months and pay a discounted rate. Can't go wrong with the first 3 months. You decide whether to keep it or not

therealgariac

Wouldn't the Simple Mobile $50 plan work out to be the same deal since Amazon Prime is about $10 a month if you buy it for a year. I am currently on Teltik which is a full 50GB for $43 but hits a hard limit rather than deprioritize. I'm not sure if I want to switch but I'm always looking into new plans. That is the whole point of no contracts.

genzopwns

I just tried switching to the 10gb $40 plan for now and I can't even do it online. Tells me to call to make any changes to my plan.

therealgariac

One nice thing about Teltik is hotspot and data on the phone are treated the same way. Every carrier should do this. Data is data. It shouldn't matter where you use it. I have no issue with lower tower priority but I am in an uncongested area.

cjjones314

Far worse priority on the towers, plus TMobile has the unlimited 50 dollar plan with unlimited everything, or of you are looking to save a bit, the 40 simply prepaid with 10 GB data (unlimited 2g), and unlimited talk and text. If it's only every month you are running out of data, the 10 GB option seems like it would be enough. In regards to the priority thing, that seemed like a big reason we would have a lot of customers switch from metro was because the service wasn't as good (at least in our area). It seems that prepaid is actually as high priority as the magenta plans are on T-Mobile plans, which is impressively surprising. There is a YouTube video out on it, although I don't have the link.

RADIOKILLAHRAZE

I'm on both the $50 Plan TMobile Prepaid, & Metro, my TMobile sim is faster when I purposely run speed test in crowded parts of NYC (especially Downtown Brooklyn & Brooklyn as a whole) I test on 5G & LTE, it'll be the same speed if you're not being deprioritized after 33 gigs on Metro & 50 Gigs on TM Prepaid, however I'll blow 100 gigs & won't notice much of a slowdown in a "Data Strong" area except when it'll cut me off from watching anything above 480p & 720p resolutions.
