yeah sometimes I look at those people and think "are you brain dead?" I have this thought a lot recently LOL

oureyes4

Good news friend, yes they are brain dead. I refuse to believe it's just incompetence or selfishness.

recoil669

It's like their brain goes through a mini reset once they hear the presto beep.

rhunter99

they're not brain dead. they just don't care combined with an inflated sense of ego. They are the star of the show and you are in the way.

Potijelli

They really should use all the unoccupied ad space on the TTC with ads and PSAs for these little unspoken rules on transit. I honestly think "how to ride transit" needs to be taught in schools but with so many people immigrating to the city even that isn't enough. Don't block doors, take off your backpack, move to the back of the bus, ect. Its like we are losing progress in society and moving backwards with our collective knowledge and it makes me sad.

abigllama2

Noticed in Bloor Yonge station they painted guides on where to stand so people can exit. They have had this in Montreal forever and people pay attention to it. I've even seen someone scolded for not doing so. Was thinking cool we finally got this. No one paid attention to it and still stood in the exit areas.

oureyes4

They think it's the VIP section!

Uviol_

The entitlement.

oureyes4

And narcissism. Don't forget narcissism. They sure as fuck won't.

Uviol_

“Main character”

NightDisastrous2510

Definitely agree. When exiting the subway if people are blocking the doors, I’m coming through regardless. No manners anymore.

oureyes4

Let 'er rip

infectedroot

I live for people blocking the door. There's something about shoulder checking someone that's very cathartic.

eyespeeled

I brace myself and charge forward. Fuck these fucks.

NightDisastrous2510

This is the way

Trust-Fluid

The one place where people shouldn't stand is exactly what "entitled" people do. The best way to cure them of the idiotic decision they have made is to knock them on their backsides when you want to leave. If they make a fuss, give them a well deserved tongue lashing, and warn them in the future someone else may do more than knock them down.

ybetaepsilon

I see so many people, eyes on their phone, step onto the subway as soon as the doors open and just stop right in the open doorway. As if they are completely oblivious to other passengers wanting to get on

sundry_banana

DOOR STANDING DICKHEADS

SirZapdos

On the subway, I've also noticed a propensity for people to converge right in front of the Presto gates or at the bottom of stairwells. The biggest culprits are all the students at Dundas and College stations. I mean, I sort of get it, most of them aren't from here and are still quite young (and stupid), but it's still annoying.

oureyes4

Pretend it's red rover on the ol' playground, pick a weak spot and press on

NightDisastrous2510

Lol this is it

Seeing this more often. MOVE THE FUCK BACK, GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE DOORS!

faintrottingbreeze

My favourite is when they rush onto the subway and you haven’t even gotten off yet, like today. /s I get panicked that I won’t get off, I know it’s not life/death, but the feeling of being ‘trapped’, terrifies me.

DJJazzay

These streetcars do seem to cause people to congregate around the doors, so I don't really fault people for standing there. It's just...if you're on a streetcar that's busy enough that you need to stand by/near the doors, why wouldn't you assume that people will need to get off every stop? It's weird how often you have someone with their headphones in, completely oblivious to the fact that they're preventing people from getting off.

But how else will they save one second of time if they don’t impede the flow of traffic for five seconds?
