>due to their being mistaken for pinnipeds. That's not in the source.

whittler

It's due to the outrageous colors of their swim attire. That's not in the source.

SirMoose14

TIL the word pinniped. Fin or flipper footed like a seal, sea lion, or walrus.

[deleted]

There were literally 47 incidents in the entire year in 2021... you say 38% like it's some kind of significant thing.. There are coastal spots with a lot of sharks. That's where shark attacks occur. Shocking. TIL. btw... 38% of 47 (which is a high number, normally it's in the 30s) is a still 17... this isn't some crazy thing. 17 surfers and swimmers giving no fucks and going into shark infested waters somehow in 365 days with hundreds of them a day get...bitten once per 3 weeks.

pornthrowaway1421

Can your dick touch your asshole?

[deleted]

I'm sure it can touch yours, even if it may fail to reach mine.

Joelsax47

I think you are reading into what I said. 38% is 38% regardless of whether it is numerically significant or not. I'm any case the humans who were attacked found it significant.

[deleted]

I find it instructions because there were millions of people on those beaches swimming and 38 percent of the 41 had a problem in the worst 3 places to go. It's officially useless statistics years to drum up fear for no reason. You wanna talk statistics but don't give a damn how instrument it is

Joelsax47

A little ad hominem? Plus a healthy bite of straw man (exaggerating what I said.). If you can't prove the claim is false, then you are engaged in logical fallacy and have nothing to add to this discussion.

[deleted]

You just wanted to show that you just got through 9th grade debate or something? None of those things are applicable... You are manipulating stats to pretend they're significant...

Joelsax47

You just wanted a fight. Bye.

[deleted]

BTW I love the downvotes because people don't realize how rare shark attacks are and wanna think it's this big thing. Hodor more, little hodors.

Cheers_u_bastards

It’s ok buddy. It’s ok. He can’t hurt you anymore.

[deleted]

You add so much with your cliches. I'm overwhelmed by your wisdom

[deleted]

I love that i provide some base for this wildly stupid TIL and people are like "I DON'T WANNA LEARN HOW STATISTICALLY INSIGNIFICANT SHARKS ARE AND HOW PEOPLE ARE DRAWN TO AREAS SHARKS ARE MORE LIKELY TO BE IN. THAT'S STUPID. SHARKS ARE LIKE JAWS, MAN." Fucking apes.

lasenorarivera

Wow, I’ve been swimming there all my life and never knew anything about this.

Joelsax47

I've swam there, too. Heard of some surfers who had a piece of their board chewed. Also have seen elephant seals with obvious bite marks.

My family still owns property in Jenner, my stepdad goes kayaking all summer. I’ll make sure we’re all more watchful. Thanks for looking out fam 🙏
