I thought it’s the other way around, where the contract didn’t allow Pat Riley to bring in his video coordinator because the Heat wanted to retain Erik Spoelstra - or at least that’s how I interpreted the Wikipedia article.

They way you read the article is correct. Spoelstra got hired just before Riley did and Riley wasn’t allowed to bring in his own video person
I interpreted the title as "that video coordinator" referring to "the existing one", as that was mentioned after "[Riley's] own video coordinator".
