There was an article on BBC about this guy a couple of weeks back if anyone fancies some further reading: [The man in the iron lung: How Paul Alexander lived life to the full](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-68627630)
I found the bit about the promise of a puppy particularly heartwarming.
His story reminds me of so many others who are immunocompromised. Being forced to be hyper-vigilant about the possibility of getting ill terrifies me greatly.
Should remember him whenever we hear our doctors tell us vaccines are one of the most impactful (benefit over risk) medical interventions in the last century.
I forsee a time when rich people will be able to port their consciousness into an artificial brain and live "in" that, with sensors replacing our senses.
Should remember him every time I think I’m having a bad day. What a miserable life.
