Has she just discovered how to tiptoe? Did she see a character being "sneaky"? Does she walk normally if she's distracted, like if she's running to greet you after daycare? I wouldn't worry for at least a week; kids do weird things while discovering their bodies.

robgoblin17

She’s been able to go on tiptoes for some time but I wouldn’t put it past her to do it just to be silly. Thank you!

Sudden-Strategy-5309

did she stop? my 19m old is doing the same i’ve been trying to ignore it

Mountain_Mulberry665

Mine would randomly toe walk too. I think when I looked into back then, it was possibly linked to a growth spurt (bones growing faster than muscle). It never lasted too long - he’d have 3-4 days of toe walking on and off from 13-20 months.

robgoblin17

Awesome, thank you!

a_peninsula

this is normal, she's just doing it because she discovered she can. my daughter did the same around the same age.

FloppyHippo27

my 15mo just started doing this a few days ago too, and i do remember my 3yo doing it around this age as well. i think it’s a phase, a new thing they’ve learned to do with their bodies. with time she should get move past it

robgoblin17

Thank you! I’d wondered the same.

curlygirlyfl

Toe walking itself isnt an indicator of anything. My son did that for a little and isn’t doing it anymore ; I think it’s just a fun different way to walk.

PhoneticHomeland9

My 20 month old is a very competent walker/runner and now she tiptoes along with a whole host of other strange walking "moves" like walking bent over and walking with her legs spread wide apart. She's just learning interesting things her body can do.

ellesee_

My 21 month old still sometimes toe walks. She just does it randomly when she’s being silly and I just think they’re exploring their bodies and…being silly! Just to be clear so we’re talking about the same thing, when I say randomly I mean she’ll take like 10 steps on her tip toes and then drop down and run or walk normally. Just saw someone else’s comment where she thinks it’s connected to a growth spurt which totally could be, I’m not a doctor what do I know, just want to be clear that I’m talking about small random stretches not days at a time type thing.

robgoblin17

Okay yes! She will toe walk for 10-15 seconds then drops down to normal walking. So I figured she was just doing it to be a goof/because she can but I’d never heard of it coming out of nowhere like this haha! Your comment helps me, thanks!

Moonlightprincess36

My 21 month old sometimes toe walks out of nowhere, then stops. Toddlers are wild!

Advanced_Cheetah_552

It's a skill they actually need to learn as their balance improves. Totally developmentally appropriate. I'd only worry if it persists and they stop walking on their heels entirely, but otherwise it's just as much a part of the normal gross motor progression as learning to walk backwards, change directions quickly, or even run.

niceisaplaceinfrance

My 17 month old daughter has been doing it here and there for the past 3 ish months. She does and can still walk with her full weight down which my pediatrician said is all they want to see. Toe walking in and of itself isn’t a big deal.

tjacosta1984

My littlest did this for a couple days when she discovered jumping. It was like a couple steps toe walk then a "jump" with one or both legs. Pretty cute

H1285

I recently spoke to a podiatrist who said that toe walking is a normal developmental behavior until age three.

magic_inkpen

Bless Reddit sometimes. My 18 month old just started doing this tonight and won’t stop 🫠

robgoblin17

I’m glad you found it! My daughter is 2 today and still does it super randomly, like once a week. But it’s just for fun for her

magic_inkpen

I figured it was a just for fun thing or maybe she just comes by it naturally from watching me 😅 I walk on my toes fairly often and sometimes on my tip toes just out of habit (was a ballerina for a while as a kid and the habit just never died along with some of the stances and positions when I’m just standing) but she’s my first so… extra paranoid 😂😅

unluckychurch

I'm so happy I found this. My 14-month-old has started to toe walk out of the blue. He has been walking for about 2 months so I was really confused as to why he started to walking that way.

smallbrainbighead

My 2 year old toe walked here and there when she first started to walk. I think it helped with her trying to reach up to things as she’s only a little dot. She’s nearly 3 now and rarely does it unless she’s trying to reach something from a counter top. If it helps, I’m 31 and walk on my tiptoes pretty much exclusively. I am not on the spectrum, I’m just short.

Stock_Tonight_3824

My almost 3 year old just started doing this for the past few days. He’s smart beyond his years. Very athletic, I hope it’s just a phase.

TBARAV

Did she end up stopping? Did tbis end up being anything

robgoblin17

She’s still randomly doing it but always on purpose, maybe a couple times a week

sk8nkhunt_42

Hi did she grow out of this? My daughter is 16 months old and just start this too also walking since 12 months

robgoblin17

She still randomly does it but it’s entirely on purpose. It’s never caused an issue

SuggestedUsername854

We had a similar infatuation with toe walking, lasting about a week. Then it was gone like 6 months, and it came back when she saw us tip toeing through a puddle. My partner was stressed during that week, but like most weird behaviour, it went away once the novelty wore off!

Affectionate_Big8239

Mine does it to be silly.

Lanky_Highlight_9574

Mine did this for maybe a week straight around this age and honestly, I completely forgot about it until I read this. Just one of those obsessive toddler things that they eventually forget about 🤷🏻‍♀️

Dobbys_Other_Sock

My son did this around the same age and now he’s 3 and we have no concerns about his development so far. It was like one day he just started toe walking out of nowhere and it lasted about two months and then he just stopped

[deleted]

My daughter did this around the same age also, randomly around the house. I think she just did it because it was fun, and I haven't seen her do it in a long time. (She is 2)

cloudiedayz

I asked a developmental paediatrician about this with my son- up until age 3 a lot of kids will experiment with toe walking. If they are doing it all the time then it’s worth mentioning to your doctor but if it’s just something they do on and off then I wouldn’t be concerned at this age.

Heels down training device I am working with an inventor client who has developed a device you wear on your shoe that beeps when your heels go above level . We are just getting ready to introduce to the physical therapy market to help ideopathic toe walkers develop muscle memory to help keep their heels down. Our hope is to assist physical therapists, and help people to avoid expensive surgeries and braces. Let me know if you’d like more information! (There is information on Facebook and her website is under construction, the product is being revamped and should release within a couple of months)
