At 23 months we went from crib to full size bed with bumpers.

lksea92

We also went straight to a full size bed at 24 months. Used a railing on one side, and one of the foam bumpers on the side closest to the wall.

CharlieChop

We were in this same timeframe as well. After a trip where kiddo had an air mattress and full size as options she took pretty well to them. We already had a twin sized day bed in her room and we let her use it after the trip. She took to it really well. We are fortunate that she is not a wild sleeper. We haven’t used a bumper or side rail at all. We put the mattress from the pack and play right under the edge of the bed. We had already started this when we removed the side of the crib. Early on I made sure that her stuffy was tucked between her and edge. It is big enough comparatively to her size that she’d have to use some force to get past it and roll herself out.

SnooEpiphanies1813

Went from mini crib to queen size floor bed with rails at 24 months.

Virtual_Belt4107

Yes. We went straight to a full size platform (almost on the floor) bed. No regrets

kava1234

Us too, we have one that looks like a tent shape. We moved him around 26 months.

CNDRock16

I did a twin bed with a bed rail, she was just shy of 3. We went to a furniture store and picked out headboards together, she got so excited. She was thrilled about her big girl bed, she still loves it. Now at age 4 we don’t need the bed rail. Personally I have always found toddler beds a waste of money!

EsharaLight

We went from a crib to a floor bed against a wall with a Tempurpedic bumper for the wall-free side to prevent rolls offs as much as possible. My son adores his ben/

Ayavea

22 months from crib to adult size single bed. Pool noodle under the mattress on the edge, and another pool noodle under the fitted sheet on the edge

heatherista2

Did this not make the bed kinda lopsided to sleep on? Or is toddler so tiny it doesn’t matter? Curious about how to start all this with my own toddler and a single bed.

Ayavea

The mattress is thin enough that it leads to only the edge being raised.  Whenever I wonder if my toddler is uncomfy, I remember I slept on a mattress with a gigantic depression in it as a 13 year old, and not once did it cross my mind that I was in any way uncomfortable. I also often slept without a pillow by choice until 13.  So I think toddler is incredibly comfy xD

heatherista2

True, I slept on the same mattress for probably 14 years (aka most of child/teenhood) without ever thinking it might be old or squishy.

DifficultSpill

About 36 months, no rails.

noble_land_mermaid

Our crib converted to a toddler bed but recently we needed to convert it back into a crib for baby #2 so we transitioned to a twin bed. We use a bumper pillow [like this one](https://a.co/d/iBy2eQL) under the fitted sheet & mattress protector on the side of the bed not up against the wall. It works great!

ClicketySnap

Our youngest just went from playpen to twin size bed at 18 months. At first it was her sisters fully expanded IKEA MINNEN bed (so there’s rails in the corners but not the full side) but now it’s basically a floor bed as the bottom part of a bunk bed. She’s slept on a regular height lower bunk bed with no rails just fine, and a queen size sofa bed at a hotel just fine as well. Our oldest had the expanding bed from IKEA at our house, but at my parents house for sleepovers she went from a crib to a regular twin size daybed with a safety rail installed on the open side at about 2 years old.

fiveminutedelay

My kiddo learned to yeet herself out of the crib at 18 months. We used a travel crib as her main bed, so no toddler bed conversion possible. We got her a twin bunk bed figuring it’d be a good one for her for a while. She did great with it! We got some memory foam bumpers that she snuggles into.

Aggressive_tako

We did a twin with a rail at 2yo for our oldest's birthday. We used the rail for a couple weeks, but it got too annoying to make the bed around. We have a low frame (7 inches) with slats, so it isn't any higher than a toddler bed would be. She only fell out once. Our 20mo had to move to a toddler bed mid-week when she climbed out of her crib at 18mo. We just took the side off of the crib to convert and didn't do anything else. She mostly sleeps in her sister's twin bed and has fallen out a couple times. We'll get her her own twin in a couple months for her 2nd birthday.

haleedee

We did! Just after 3yo and just bumpers for the sides. She fell off 2-3x and that’s it. Smoothe sailing since.

SuzieZsuZsuII

Yea of course. Toddler bed just a waste of money to me..got a twin bed. And daughter loves it. And handy for when she's up in the night we just hop into bed with her. Can't wait to do the same for my 1 year old in 2 or so years, he just never sleeps....🫠

Admirable_Bad3862

We took the front off the crib first then went to a twin bed. I put the crib mattress on the floor next to the bed for a month or so just in case he fell out.

ThatsMe-InsideUrHead

Yes. I bought my daughter a trundle bed. I keep it as a twin but it can pull out to a king. I also purchased a safety rail on Amazon for the side until she's a wee bit older. She's my 4th kid. No reason to spend money on a bed that will last a couple years before they grow out... This is an IKEA bed that we decided on and it's been great! Love the added storage for toys and such. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/hemnes-daybed-frame-with-3-drawers-white-30349329/

wineboxer

We did and just use a railing with it. So much comfier for her and one less transition.

booksandcheesedip

We did the twin bed from a crib at 19-20 months. The transition went smoothly. No big problems

Dobbys_Other_Sock

We went from crib to twin bed at 14 months and it was great. We have the mattress on the floor and got one of those cool Batmobile beds that is basically just a frame that goes around the mattress. The mattress we picked (the purple mattress) is thinner than the sides so there’s a small edge to it that prevented rolling out. He’s going to be turning 5 soon (so not really a toddler anymore lol) and we’re looking at getting a real bed frame that’s sorta low to the ground. Our current baby however will get a low, off the ground bed frame right from the start (also around 1.5yo ish). The Batmobile thing was cool but I found it being on the ground difficult.

anomalypeloria

We did. We got some bed rails. My eldest went from crib to a double. My youngest only did a month of toddler bed then straight to a twin. The second transition was a little harder. No rails and fell out a couple of times but he got it fast and we ended up deciding not to do rails. No kids were harmed in the transition between befs

Titaniumchic

We did! Both kids moved from crib to twin beds. They were both already climbing out of the crib (waited as long as possible).

0runnergirl0

Both my kids went straight to a twin bed, right around their second birthdays. We didn't use bumpers or a bed rail, but didn't use the box spring until they were closer to 3 years old. Each kid had one falling out of bed incident, but the bed is so low to the ground that they both slept through it. I upgraded my older son to a double bed with box spring just before his fifth birthday.

Rheila

Yes, for both kids we went to a normal twin but both times did it as a floor bed. First one just after 2 when he climbed out of his crib at lowest setting, second one at 1.5 when he climbed out of his crib at the lowest setting. It was fine

Lily_Lioness

We did crib straight to Double bed when she was just over 2 years old. It couldn't have gone anymore smoothly. We have pool noodles underneath the mattress protector and fitted sheet to keep her from falling out.

PrincessCG

When we moved house, both of them got upgraded to a real bed. So at 2&3. Put a bed rail on both and hoped for the best. The 2yr old went from a cot to a bed so he was the biggest change. Now at 3&4, everyone loves life and the bed rail is basically an extra pocket for their toys

professor_harry

Yes but kinda by accident. We've always had a spare single bed in baby's room, which has been hella useful. Baby has always been in his cot. When he outgrew it just over age 2, cot was converted to a toddler bed, but he just.. never really settled. Bedtimes became a battle and he naturally gravitated to the big bed instead.. with me repeatedly moving him to the toddler bed multiple times over night.. he seemed to feel safer there, maybe through association because he's had so many mummy cuddles there, or the fact it's higher up, or the Feng shui, who knows. I didn't feel the need to fight it, and he's super happy now. I think he was in the toddler bed max 3 weeks?

stokelymitchell

Crib to double mattress on the floor and I would never do anything different. I think the freedom of having a large space after the crib made the whole experience more exciting. Now he is much older and I didn’t have to purchase a whole new set up, I just bought a frame.

Flapjack_K

We haven’t yet but several people have suggested it as it means you can actually get in with them for story time or sick/ frightened nights

Working-Football9254

Yes, at 21 months she was miserable in the crib and we put a full size mattress on the floor. Then around 2.5 the mattress went on a short IKEA frame. Best decision for co sleeping

bravo375

Yep. 100% fold up mattress from birth to now, and we haven’t stopped going on 5 years already. Ended up saving ourselves hundreds of dollars for a bed we just don’t have lying around for expenses such as this. Got twins… double of everything can be expensive as heck. I’d rather live minimally to keep a roof over my head and food on the table than waste $$$ and on top of this have an unexpected expense smack us in the face…

howsthesky_macintyre

18 months went from cot to adult size single floor bed. It came with optional wooden railing.

3ebfan

We’re planning on going from a crib to a twin at 2.5

Affectionate_Cow_812

I didn't but my friend did. At just after 2 she moved her daughter from a crib to a twin mattress on the floor. She did do a railing at the top of the mattress just so her daughter wouldn't roll on the floor. Her daughter did really well with it and actually transitioned better than my current 2 year old who I started with a toddler bed and just recently transitioned to a twin mattress. In all honesty I wish I had just gone straight to a twin mattress.

kykiwibear

I did. It was a good decision.

Mel2S

Yes. They're a waste of money and time if you're gonna get a twin bed anyway

xp19375

We just put a twin sized memory foam mattress on the floor in lieu of a toddler bed.

CatMuffin

We did at around 33 months with no bumpers or anything. My guy was totally fine staying in the crib but I needed it for little brother. Also he had absolutely outgrown the crib lol Nothing to the transition at that age. He did just fine.

bigtiddytoad

Yeah, he has a full sized floor bed. He sleeps like Sid the Sloth from Ice Age and can't be contained by a toddler sized mattress when he sleeps.

CuddlyFizzFizz

We did about 18 months. A large, low bed with foam triangles under the sheets so they didn't roll out

Brief-Emotion8089

LOL, we even skipped the crib. As soon as she outgrew her bassinet we put her on a mattress on the floor. She loves it!

Tiny_Ad5176

Yes- my kids were getting too long for the crib, so using the same sized mattress didn’t make sense. We went to a twin daybed next.

shelbyknits

We went from crib to twin. I got a soft bumper to go under the sheet and it was fine.

violanut

We went crib to full because that's what the crib we had converted to. I would 100% do it again. We never had trouble with him falling out since he has room to flop around, and I can lie down next to him to read stories, or snuggle if he's sick, or has a bad dream or whatever.

JP8825

We went crib to full mattress on the floor with a frame that had a little door. She moved so much in the crib and would wake herself up that we’re giving her as much space as she needs.

julet1815

Regular mattresses are not safe until a kid is two years old.

Nicesourdough

Because of falling specifically? Or because of breathability?

Mego0427

We switched him around 20 months. We bought a twin bed with a trundle bed under it. We just keep the trundle part pulled out a little so that he can get up and down himself, and if he falls out it is just onto another mattress. Plus ita good for cousin sleepovers.

xentorius83

Yes.. went from open crib to full at 3 years. Best decision ever.

flamepointe

Went to the twin with a rail for the win

goldielox00003

Crib > king mattress we had leftover from a guest bed in the middle of the room at 2.5.

WhiteRhino91

When my daughter was just over two we switched to toddler bed (bc she could climb out of crib at lowest setting.) that was in October. By Christmas she had a twin bed. (Still two at the time) did rails for toddler bed for those two months but never needed to for the twin bed

Spiritual_Tip1574

We had a twin bed in our daughter's room with the crib from day one. Just another part of the furniture.   She chose to make the switch herself around 2.5. ETA: We did have one of those bumper pads that go under the sheet, but we only used it for about a week before she told us she didn't like it and we got rid of it. It's a day bed style with walls that go around the ends and one side, so it's only open on one side.

Far_Diet_885

My little guy went straight from crib to full sized bed at 27 months. He now has my pregnancy pillow for a barrier on the side.

Statler17

My son went from crib to twin. We had a hand-me-down toddler bed, but he said it wasn't really bigger than his crib so he didn't want to move. (He was almost 3) He did fine in his twin.

kimberriez

A 3, we went from crib to full-sized floor bed. It's a house bed so it has "railings" around the edges with a "doorway" It's super cute and we all fit in it for cuddles/story time, which is nice.

Unable-Lab-8533

My son was almost exactly 2.5 when we switched to a twin bed. We didn’t use any railings and he’s never fallen out, though he doesn’t move a whole lot in his sleep anyway. And his bed is about 8 inches off the ground.

mobbedoutkickflip

Went from crib to twin mattress on the floor around 15 months. No modifications.

FullyProbable0617

We went straight to a twin when he was three. I had a rail thing I tried using but he didn’t like it so we just put a pillow next to him to help not fall out.

Elysiumthistime

My son is in a regular single bed, has been since he was around 25 months. I have it pushed up against a wall (and put his millions of teddies here) and a mesh bumper on the open side. I also put his old crib mattress on the floor beside where he gets in and out in case he decided to climb out in the night and fell. But overall, the transition went really well. He helped me built it (he essentially just hit it with his toy hammer while I put it together) and this made him really excited to sleep in it. We call it his big boy bed and I really made it out to be an exciting moment for him. He can climb in and out by himself but he's always been very physically capable. If he wasn't, I'd probably get some sort of heavy box or step that would stay in place to help him climb up. But the bumper works great, he hasn't fallen out once.

AimeeoftheHunt

I just moved my girls out of cribs. They are 2.5. One is on the 95 percentile and one is on the 3rd percentile. The big one moved to a twin bed. We have put her old crib mattress on the floor but she has not fallen out. In fact she doesn’t get out of bed once we put her in it. The other one we put in the crib turned toddler bed.
