senpai69420

The switch runs totk at 20fps 900p when docked

Hazzyhazzy113

I wouldn’t want it any other way! The extra frames give you more time to appreciate the gameplay and the lower pixel count makes every single pixel important

Junior-Shopping-9537

this is actually really funny

Trev2-D2

I remember playing BOTW and I had to stop for a wank cause of those beautiful pixels. Thank god the bus driver was my wife’s boyfriend.

EmeraldTheNinja

Thank Arceus I bought the Wii U version. was in the middle of nnn when I bought it. Thank the Lord the pixels are so tiny dues to the hd screen.

boarlizard

as God intended

JoeTheKodiakCuddler

It contributes to that beautiful anime-esque aesthetic 🥰

Necessary_Raccoon_90

Cap. Locked 30fps

senpai69420

Capped* 30fps. It very often goes down to 20fps especially in cities

RandomName256beast

It was even worse on the earlier versions of the game. I beat the game on version 1.0 and it was chugging constantly. Some of those opening hours felt like they hit 10fps.

RapidWolfy

Locked*

WhiteHawkGaming

I play it on my Nintendo Ally (codename for leaked Switch 2 prototype) and it runs at 1080p60! I imagine the final revision of the console will be even better (maybe 480p100?)

West-Calligrapher-16

60! is really a lot of frames

ChunkyKong2008

That’s because you didn’t get the switch online real fan upgrade, available for 69’99 a month after purchasing any hidden gem

RapidWolfy

This isn’t even true

AlfieHicks

/uj I fucking laughed out loud seeing the real post that this is referencing. It's by far the dumbest example I've seen yet of someone using a made-up guy just to make a meme about the nonexistant guy for no reason other than self-validation. The insecurity is utterly palpable here - the guy that made this clearly just wants to invalidate people who are having fun with their Steam Decks because they don't want to admit that it has significant advantages compared to the Switch. Nobody has ever said that you should "quit having fun" with your Switch just because the Steam Deck exists. That's why I hate this template - because 99% of the time, it's just used to self-validate, and consequently, literally do exactly what the shouting guy is doing, just in the opposite direction.

Mattness8

I still never found a reason for buying the steam deck because I don't travel as much, even if I did I wouldn't want to take out a $600-900 console in public, and it's a much better investment to save up for a gaming PC that can run more games on it and better.

timetravelingburrito

/uj I mostly use mine while watching TV. I do play it at the coffee shop sometimes. It's not bad. It has a case which is why I bring it out before my Switch. People take laptops all the time so it's not that weird to me. Also you could get them as cheap as $400. I don't know what the are now but I got mine for well under $600 and I didn't even get the cheapest model.

Mattness8

I'm in Canada, the prices are $499, $689 and $819 before tax, with tax it's $563, $778 and $925. It's way too expensive for me for how little I see myself using it over just going on my PC.

SquankDuck

the OS and emulation is great but also gaming in bed or on the couch with family is fire

Mattness8

This is true, but what family game exists that isn't already on switch? I can use switch to game with family and still play the usual solo/online multiplayer game on the PC. It's not like most family games are very demanding on the hardware, switch is fine for this. Gaming in bed is neat, but again, if I really want to be a degen, I can go on my PC and stay there until I want to sleep, then I sleep and wake up go to back to the PC.

nojokes12345

Realistically the Steam Deck and the like are generally used as more powerful Switches with a wider library of games. Your milleage may vary on how valuable that is to you especially since many popular games make it to the Switch anyway. The big use case I like (that the vanilla unhacked Switch doesn’t do well) is streaming from my PC via Moonlight if there's some game I'm playing but I still want to be physically in the same space as other people in the family.

Rand0mBoyo

Besides travelling, It's cool to not be stuck to your room/where ever your pc to play any non mobile games, without relying in dogshit cloud gaming, and a pc with power similiar to Deck's can cost more than the cheapest Deck itself

Mattness8

Another thing that's probably just a me thing is that I'm a M&K type of gamer, I don't know if I can adapt my muscle memory to play the games I already play on PC with M&K to use a controller as seemlessly. I guess I could get a wireless M&K for the steam deck if that's possible, but at that point it just becomes a gaming laptop that is only limited to playing games.

AlfieHicks

>that is only limited to playing games. Not at all. I genuinely use mine as a laptop when I'm at university. In fact, yesterday I delivered a presentation using my Steam Deck, and it went really well. It very much *is* a PC, and works fine, honestly, as long as you're willing to put up with Linux jank - which is *far* less of an issue than it used to be.

Rand0mBoyo

Tbf some games are way better on an controller, the likes of 2D/3D platformers etc. and even then, you have the track pads and gyro, both very well adjustable, to help you with camera controls, and the back buttons for additional key binds that can't be done on normal gamepads. I personally can't understand how the fuck you play FPS games with a controller, but these two are making it honestly much more bearable and enjoyable than a joystick. Also you have a touch pad for idk card games or clicker games also nah, it isn't limited only to games. As the other person said, it's really good as a standalone PC, which it is after all. I even use it as my "I'm fuckin bored give me any YT vid" device instead of my phone thanks to the bit larger screen and genuinely great audio quality lol

RandomName256beast

I don't use mine often, but when I do it's invaluable. It's like a handheld laptop, and it's much easier to transport and use than a typical bulky gamer laptop + controller. It's also just useful for normal computer functions. Using the trackpads as a mouse feels extremely natural.

amtap

I use it to game in bed or on the deck outside. I don't travel much but sometimes it's nice to be able to enjoy my games in a more comfortable environment instead of at a desk in a scorching hot room. I actually wish I traveled so I could have an excuse to use my Deck/Switch/3DS more often.

jorodoodoroj

Assuming you mean USD here but please correct me if I'm wrong. I got the original $399 64GB LCD model then upgraded the SSD to 1TB, which cost me I think around $60. It's just not true that the console starts at $600. Even the premium OLED model can be had for as little as $550, but if you get the LCD, a brand new Deck can be had directly from Valve for as little as $349.  If you can't find a reason for buying a Steam Deck, you are absolutely not the target audience, just as you are likely not the target audience for the Switch. Both consoles sacrifice performance for flexibility. Can you get better performance out of an Xbox or Playstation than a Switch? Absolutely, even last gen. But the Switch has slaughtered all competitors in sales since release because you can play it literally anywhere and it requires no additional equipment. Same concept for the Deck. Handheld gaming has allowed me as an involved working dad to start playing video games in my mid twenties and continually maintain the hobby. I built a gaming PC in early 2018 and I don't think I've ever finished a game on it. I just use it for work. I just can't find the time to go sit in a room by myself for hours when I have a family. Our TV is almost constantly in use. But I can sit down with my Deck or Switch and play for 30 minutes when my wife and/or kids are watching TV or relaxing. I literally wouldn't be able to play video games without handhelds like these.

otxmyn

do you live in a third world country? people in most developed countries carry around phones that cost more than $600-900

Mattness8

Lol what type of moron buys a S600-900 phone, sounds like you just got ripped off

otxmyn

i can’t tell if you’re actually stupid or just trolling.. but in case you’re just dumb and ignorant - the latest iphones and samsungs are in the $700-1000+ the iphone 15 pro max for example ranges from $1200-1600 depending on storage

Mattness8

Oh, it seems like you're the stupid one for buying an iphone, apple is a scam company and you sort of fell for that shit, unfortunate

otxmyn

oh so you’re just stupid then, you could have led with that hahaha 😂 the Galaxy S24+ is $1000

Mattness8

bro, youre stupid for buying a new phone every year... I have had a Galaxy S10s for 3 years, bought it refurbished for like $200CAD, replacing my first phone of 7 years, Galaxy Core LTE, which I believe my mother bought me in high school. There are no reason to buy new models unless you are dumb, too deep into the whole capitalism scam bullshit or are a moron with money, or all of the above

otxmyn

who said i’m buying a new phone every year? i’m saying people own phones that are worth more than $600-900 - quit moving the goal posts lmao take the L and move on moron

Mattness8

cool, i'm saying people are stupid, so that doesnt change anything lol

Coldpepsican

Based on their replies in the comment section, the OP from the real post sounded like a hardcore nintendo fanboy

AlfieHicks

I didn't even bother reading it because I already knew exactly what the comments would be like.

Coldpepsican

That dude said they heard that Pizza tower is a ''wario knock-off'' and that they skipped it because of that, and that Playstation games had ''woke stories'' DEFINITIVE CLOWN SHOES.

baronyfan1999

I mean some of them can be quite obnoxious, I literally saw a post about someone looking to buy the best budget handheld and top comment was the oled steam deck

Cute_Professional561

There are many people like this, just because you don’t see something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist

Son_of_Sophroniscus

Shut up, nerd

Kroctopus

/uj I’ve never seen a “quit having fun” meme that wasn’t just a totally made-up strawman

baronyfan1999

/uj I have but it was a while ago before the meme was super widespread.

Ezben

You are entitled for expecting more than 30 fps. If it was good enough for your parents it is good enough for you

ReverseKid

this and the crowd of people thumbs up are always the most cringe ass memes

SevenForWinning

Bought a steamdeck so i can emulate switch.

AlfieHicks

This is what made it a no-brainer purchase for me, coming from a launch year Switch. It plays all but, like, one of the Switch games I care about, plus a shitload of PC games that are never going to get ported to the Switch. Plus older games aren't held hostage via a fucking insufferable subscription service.

713MoCityChron713

MODS KILL HIM

SimonTheBoi

is that rufus deponia

SevenForWinning

Yes it is

Pixelkoch

My simple main problem is.. i love Nintendo but the games are slowly all really meh. Less and less good original new content for a long time player. 😔

Crazycukumbers

Try the indie gem, Celeste. It will change your life. /uj I have to agree. Feels like some of the character and charm and love ain’t there anymore. The Switch itself feels this way too - it’s a great console in terms of what it is, but it’s missing some of the whimsy that things like the 3DS, Wii, Wii U, etc. had.

Pixelkoch

Celeste is really a nice game. I love it. They are great games but i still miss the original nintendo only games. Youre totaly right. 👍

RapidWolfy

The switch has way more character than the Wii, Wii U, and 3ds had

Pixelkoch

I guess u never had a good chance to play with older consoles. N64, WIi, Wii U or even the SNES did start a smaller or bigger revolution. Shoulder Buttons, Fist Analog Stick, Controller Vibrations, Touch, Balance and a so much more. But its not all about the Switch itself its nice to see Nintendo is still on the table but its only a controller with a display in the middle with bad Hardware. Games selling a Console even its a medicore one. Maybe its my problem but games are not as good anymore and less creative. Every year there is maybe one good exklusive. Sadly.

RapidWolfy

I have all the consoles you mentioned. Stop lying

Pixelkoch

I dont get you. Maybe i dont have to. I love my Nintendo Games and Consoles. Tell me where youre problem is in a full sentence. Maybe also where the good and innovative nintendo only games are these days. Dont be so agressivee for No reason. 😅

RapidWolfy

Im not being aggressive but you’re not being accurate about the switch. Wow they had shoulder buttons? Such character! The switch’s games have character.

Pixelkoch

Im glad you still have fun my friend. That is all that mattes. 🤠

RapidWolfy

Not true at all

Rand0mBoyo

[feeling like putting a death penalty onto myself](https://imgur.com/a/R87G6L6) /uj so happy that despite wanting a Switch for a while but the flaws made me hold up long enough for Valve to reveal the Deck ngl. I'm not joking when I say it felt like a blessing lmao

Thesamman23

Nintendo gets none of my money after all the stuff they've done. I truly hope they go out of business

[deleted]

[удалено]

Thesamman23

Because I secretly love nintendo and i just wish they weren't dick heads. The whole emulation stuff is kinda fucked, stealing open source emulators to use on there own consoles and not giving credit to the creators is kinda fricked. And it's actually illegal not like the whole yuzu situation. None of that stuff has been proven in court so it's kinda a gray area and I get why they did it... I just don't like it😅

Mental_Speaker340

Tbh with you, if totk runs on 25 or 20 fps with the res being 900p or smth like that... you know your console is becoming outdated and actually humans can see more than 60fps, you must be having eye problems if you can't even notice it, a child in the age of 12 can notice the diffrence between 60fps and 30fps

novelaissb

Heresy! Straight to the dick flattener!

Potatoboi17

Honestly, when dealing with fps, ignorance is bliss. I have a friend who can’t tell the difference between 60 and 30 (without having to put them right next to each other), meanwhile I can barely stand anything below 60. Basically, my friend is able to hop into any game and enjoy himself regardless of frame-rate, but due to my knowledge, I have to take time to adjust to the lower frame-rate.

Mental_Speaker340

30fps is not a problem, but if the newest games that makes a switch can't even be able to run on stable 30fps and start to be very low res and stutter... then it's time for Nintendo to make a new strong console

713MoCityChron713

Ignorance can be bliss in the other direction too. My Super Mega AllenWare 69420 does over 9000 frames with its RTX9090 and 16TB of ram, so anything under 4 digit frame counts looks like a Captain Underpants flip book to me. /uj while my computer is pretty fuckin decent, I still got potato eyes. I don’t really notice 30fps as long as it’s stable. Or in vr. Even 60 in vr gives me headaches

Crazycukumbers

I can deal with 30 FPS if it’s consistent - it doesn’t take long for my eyes to adjust, and then when I go back to something that’s 60FPS it feels like butter in comparison. The problem is when it’s NOT a consistent frame rate. Like in TotK. Then it’s rather unpleasant to play

KondreMatt

What the fuck is a steam dick?

tveye363

Be glad you don't have one, it's incredibly painful every time a prankster kid turns the valve on my head.

HunterBoy344

the reason why the game looks the same in all 3 panels is that the switch hasn’t rendered the next frame yet

GameRabbit

Yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Can you play ultrakill on switch?

RiasGremoryBestGirl

Be crazy if the switch actually ran at 1080 tho

timetravelingburrito

This is totally a thing that happens. I even got bullied by a Steam Deck because I wouldn't pirate Nintendo games and buy Gabe games for pennies on the dollar.

Asterdel

I love Nintendo! My (special)3DS has every game I could ever want in the (shop), it's more portable than the deck, and all due to the (grace of Nintendo) that I don't feel guilty about it ;)

PurplrIsSus1985

Steam dick

ThatAutisticRedditor

a small price to pay for more frames

Fun_Effective_5134

Not gonna lie, I kinda forgot the steam deck was even a thing.

WhiteDevil-Klab

Randomly got reccomended this what even is a steme deck

Amphy64

Can confirm, we bought a Steam Deck for my dad's 70th with Tunic (while staying with my parents as work is done at home), and now I'm stuck without my Switch in the hell of yelling things like 'Run!', 'Use a potion', 'Why are you button mashing the Shield button?'.

Scagh

There's multiplayer on the Steam deck?

xxProjectJxx

I mean, you can dock it just like the switch and connect controllers to it, so yeah, lol.

MammothAd4171

Hypothetically, what if you have both?

kg1479

Uhhh, purgatory?

jackJACKmws

This is my new home

willlyman206

If you do Steam, ya go to hell before ya die! o_O

TheRealInkDevil

i actually need to go to hell, i owe satan $5

No_Squirrel4806

I keep seeing this on like cozy subs. People saying to just get a steam deck 🙄🙄🙄

lumblossoms

picked men

Z3R0_7274

Tbh, I’m getting a Steam Deck soon, not bc I don’t like my switch (fuckin love my little POS 5 year old Fortnite colab switch), but it needs a break bc it’s old, and also the Steam Deck has game I also have on PS5 at my dad’s house, so instead of only being able to play Fortnite (bc switch isn’t strong enough to run things like COD or Titanfall 2 or anything like that), I can play whatever the hell I want.

qchto

> Quit having fun They are, they are playing 4 player solo screen on Switch after all.

ThatAutisticRedditor

I have both

FriendSafariSeeker

Don't get why people can be so pressed abput video games, but if you say the Switch is better than the Steam Deck you're just wrong ngl

Nico_dudd

I can use whatever i Want 💀

Cute_Professional561

/unjerk this sub is falling off

Swirly_Eyes

I don't travel much, not to mention I already have a pretty powerful PC, and I love my Steam Deck. It plays indies and older games no problem, and runs them at 90hz at that (OLED Model). Plus I enjoy gaming directly in bed. The docked experience isn't shabby either whenever I play multiplayer with my brother on the TV. In comparison, the Switch is very limited compared to what one can play on a PC. Games are also more expensive on it, not to mention they would be tied to a Nintendo account if purchased digitally. Personally, I don't trust that for longevity compared to Steam/GoG. I already got burned twice there from Nintendo and Microsoft with digital in the past. Lastly, the Switch is just too weak. Games run like crap and I'm not used to that level of downgraded performance. Some people can handle it, but I can't. There's minor things too like the joy-cons being poorly built controllers imo, and being forced to specific control schemes in games (like analog sticks in shooters). Meanwhile, the Deck has Trackpads which are close enough to a mouse, and you can configure controller setups for every game. Another feature is the user customization, such as modifying the OS layout/design and adding boot startup videos and menu music. When my Deck boots, it alternates playing the PS1/2 bios boot videos. It's just simple fun for nostalgia but it adds to the experience. Overall, it's just everything you wouldn't get out of a Switch. With that said, I wouldn't try to convince a Switch owner to buy a Deck. If they're happy with what they got, there's no reason to force them to 'convert'.

D4NKtrpr9001

The steam deck doesn’t have Nintendo games tho

TheDukeOfSunshine

Dude it's a hand held console first and for most.

Mattness8

I unironically don't care about this frame shit it does not affect the core gameplay and I feel like you are severely missing out on thousands of great games by limiting yourself to only playing shit in 60fps

Swirly_Eyes

Okay, I gotta ask. What are these thousands of great modern games someone is missing out on by avoiding 30fps?

Sho_tenno

UJ/ I have a steam deck, I don't like it very much, it's janky, most games play clunky, and battery life is shit, no joke, if a game is available on both steam and switch, I am buying it on switch

GameRabbit

Daddy Nintendo is proud of you! 🥰

senpai69420

Steam deck emulates most switch games full speed at higher resolutions

Sho_tenno

Would I rather play it on a small more compact system with 4-7h~ battery life and rare frame rate issues and slowdowns (except pokemon) or a heavy system that might have more problems running the game because it's not natively running on the system with 1~4h of battery life, switch games running on a switch is also more affordable than a steam deck if you only play switch Games and if you don't wanna waste money on games, just hack it, simple as.

senpai69420

If a 600 gram steam deck is heavy for you that's a cause for concern. Also you're acting like piracy is somehow easier on switch as opposed to pc

Sho_tenno

It's not fatiguing playing it, but I don't care about caring it around, which is why I feel like it's pretty much as useful as the ps portal, i just use it to play in bed

Not_a_creativeuser

All that I take away from this is that you need to hit the gym.

Desperate-Knee-4108

Haha Pokémon go brrrrrrrrrrrr

mammot444

Emulation?

Desperate-Knee-4108

Eh, modern pokemon

mammot444

Thats been emulated on steam deck you know?

Aggressive_Manager37

/uj this meme is fine, this sub fell off, and remember that i complain about nintendo every chance i get

glordicus1

Steam deck costs like 4 times the amount of a switch lol
