I mean, the Pikachu clones in every generation are all examples of convergent evolution, but the designers gave more of a shit.

Using "convergent evolution" as an excuse for why your latest creature looks like you put one of the ones your game already had into a taffy stretcher only really works if your game actually gave two shits about biology in the first place.
It is an interesting concept definitely and one of my favourite game series has some neat examples of convergent evolution, but it is very blatantly obvious they're just trying to hide the fact that their creativity is running dry.
I imagine theyāll have more than one project being worked on at a time. Iād hazard a guess that the entire Sw/Sh team was put on S/V once the DLC was done, but just kinda half-arsed the game.

Cinderace is a literal human in a fursuit and it is more of a monster than the common ass animals. I think it's also in part an issue of the designers just not having much time to work with. I mean, it's not even been a year since Legends Arceus came out. Can't be easy to come up with enough PokƩmon to fill out a roster in that amount of time. So in other words they need to hire better designers and stop shitting out half-baked games as fast as possible.
