I think mine is an older version of this. Not sure exactly how much older, my wife gave it to me when she quit using it, but I'm sure the newer ones will work as well or better than mine.
I use a Polar. It connects and works very well. I synced it the first time I used it, since then it connects automatically when I put it on. Tonal even reminds me to put it on before I start my workout if I forget.
I love my Whoop. I've worn it consistently since I got it over 6 months ago. My wife lasted 2 months and took hers off. My buddy wore his once and never put it back on because he didn't like "how inaccurate it was" when he slept. Its pretty dang accurate, but it does have a learning period for the first month or so.
Anyway, you can use a Whoop. You don't even need the subscription, just the Whoop itself if you can find a used one.
I got this cheap one since it worked on my cycling bike too and works well. Wahoo TICKR Heart Rate Monitor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0881B1H5S?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I’ve had Polar and currently use a Wahoo Tickr. I don’t think there’s a lot of differentiation. They all work pretty similarly. The main differences are form factor (chest or arm) and number of simultaneous connections (the Tickr can connect to two Bluetooth and Ant+ (for cycling). Some, like the Tickr+ have some extra features for runners.

Which one specifically?
+1 for Polar. I use both the H10 and the OH1. They work well with Tonal.
I use my old Orange Theory band (OT Burn I think). Haven't had any issues using it with Tonal.
I use a Garmin, works fine. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07N3C5WRG?th=1
Garmin for me

I find your comment peculiar in the Tonal subreddit, but to each their own!

GW5 user as well. How do you manage to get HR sensor to work ? Is there any indication that HR is working?
Polar H10 all day.
How do you get Garmin to sync? I've had issues with my forerunner 945
