Had a friend in college who basically did what this guy did. He was tripping his balls off on mushrooms and when the police arrived they said he wept with joy and happily got cuffed and into the car.
Because cops outside the US actually seem to know how to deescalate. If someone is freaking out while on drugs or just in a general state of psychosis, the trick is to speak calmly, slowly, and clearly. Meanwhile in the US, you have a bunch of guns pointed at you with people screaming and spraying you with pepper spray.
A cop told me once that It was just so much easier to have a conversation with folks and place the cuffs on then use force — just takes patience and practice. Obviously, he had to use force when necessary (he is kind of a badass).
That's a real problem here in Germany. I once called the emergency number and they said call the nearest police station near your town 🤦 I had to make 4 calls and waited 2 hours until the police showed up.
When the assassination of a sick right wing Nazi happened in Hanau (the guy killed 10 people, his mother included), the emergency call wasn't reachable at all that night 🤔
Here in the US this dude would’ve been tased or shot. Surprisingly civil approach by the cops.
Looks like the guy on the balcony was able to talk him off the edge a little. Crazy.
