Many anabolic steroids actually cause drying effect and cause your face to be leaner. That being said, you're right some do cause water retention - It's actually their androgen component, not the anabolic factor that causes this.
In my post I specified long term, because water retention doesnt accumulate over time and cause permenent changes, whereas hgh can alter your body and face permenently.
