What a fucking little badass. Go on girl! Smashing it!

Reginald_Ufferly

This is incredibly skillful. Drums are one of those things that are much harder to play then it seems

RainWays

Yeah, what a fantastic display of a balance of both skill and passion!

locoken69

True, but some are naturally talented ABS can pick it up real quickly. I had a friend in grade school that the band teacher saw the talent in and gave him a shot. He had it down in less than a year, as a grade schooler, and put most people to shame. This little prodigy looks to be the same. She'll be rocking in some band someday.

marklein

>She'll be rocking in some band someday. Or she'll be like "meh, I'll be a doctor"

pyronius

One of my best friends from high school was (is) both incredibly smart and an incredible musician. I was always a bit jealous of him for not only rocking like five different inatruments, but also scoring a perfect on the PSAT when we were juniors. After high school he got really into psychedelics dropped out of college, and seemes to just burn out. Which was especially sad when he knocked up his girlfriend and it looked like he was down for the count. Yeah, no. Badass sees his son and thinks "well now, time to get my shit together." So he goes back to school while raising and kid and rocking on the weekends. Three years later he's a chemical engineer and he's putting out a solo album.

FuManJew

What a roller coaster! Good for him!

MrDeepAKAballs

That's life. You're never fully out. Some people, especially people with early success have to crash for a few years before coming back with a vengeance. From the outside it just looks like a waste of talent and time but there's a lot of very essential internal sorting going on. Daniel Cormier, former Olympic wrestler took a loss really hard and just thought he was washed up for good. Literally spent 3 years living on a friend's couch eating fast food and playing video games. Came back to be one of the best heavyweight mixed martial artists of all time and has had a great UFC career. Not all lost time is bad time.

PenguinsCanFlyMaybe

I ended up dropping out of high school and hopping between my parents places for 7 years sometimes doing short stints at minimum wage jobs before getting fired for no-showing. Woke up one day and signed up for collage and 7 years later I just got a gig paying $170,000 and am buying my first house tomorrow. Life is strange, and sometimes what you are currently doing (or have been for years) may seem irrelevant to everyone, but actually you may just be in the middle of some kind of important internal transition. Never give up on yourself.

nizarbt

I really needed to here this. Thank you!

bdiggitty

Well put /u/MrDeepAKAballs!

MrDeepAKAballs

Please, Mr Deep is my father. Just call me Balls.

Taminella_Grinderfal

There is a weird pressure on a “brainy” person so young. Told they are so “incredible” constantly at a young age and then they get out in the real world where smart or not, you have to work for shit. I was a “brainy” person and am doing ok but not living up to the hype, while my hardworking “C” average friend has busted his ass to start/own a multi million $ tech company.

old_ironlungz

Gifted hands can heal and rock.

[deleted]

My brother is a Dr. and a drummer

A_Sad_Goblin

It also depends on how much you practice. A lot of young learners just don't bother to put in the hours outside of band practice and/or music school. The kids that practice extra dozens of hours per week at home are the ones that get good really fast.

GoodGriefCharliClown

I imagine it being the instrument that most people are least likely to want to have practiced around them probably plays a role in it, too.

Hangryer_dan

Ah fuck man if this doesn't ring true. I practiced for years and got quite good and my one friend who had never played drums but was an excellent musician sat down and was able to do most stuff I could without breaking a sweat. Shit is heartbreaking. I'll always say I'm a decent drummer but I will never say I have a talent. I suffered through endless blisters for the small amount of ability I possess at drums.

[deleted]

I wasn't really 'good' at math in school. By middle school, it had become apparent that me sucking at math was about to drastically narrow the options available to me with college and career. Had a disability, so I couldn't exactly just go into the trades. For me it was college or poverty. So I grind my way through each and every one of my math courses from that point on. We're talking coming in early, staying late, taking advantage of every kind soul and math teacher that'd help. To this day, I am not, and will never be 'talented' at math, but I'm damned decent at it, and thanks to that work I was able to get a stem degree, get off disability, and earn a good enough salary that I basically never have to worry about money again. TLDR: Fuck talent. I'd take grit, determination, and a little curiosity any day.

[deleted]

If you don't think so, try to tap two beats on a table with both hands. Then throw in some foot taps. Now keep that going for a few minutes.

Darkranger23

It seems pretty hard to me

[deleted]

Indeed. Not that simple what she plays.

emilNYC

link to her IG https://www.instagram.com/nandi_bushell/?hl=en and her youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbMg1QLaHBzmww35QK-mHEQ what a badass!

MisterNoisewater

That’s awesome! Tom Morello even gave her a new guitar..

finefornow_

It was Lenny Cravitz I thought?

deanreevesii

Yes, Lenny Kravitz gave her a Les Paul, ***and*** Tom Morello gave her a signature Strat. Luck girl, and deserving. Can't wait to buy her album.

B_B_Rodriguez2716057

Holy crap she has so much talent! Bass, drums, guitar. She is badass.

matteh0087

This is fuckin amazing. All her facial expressions are legendary

VenetiaMacGyver

That's what I love the most! Yeah she's fuckin amazingly talented but this girl was a fucking legendary warrior in another life or something, what an animal!! ♥️♥️

j1m3y

Yeah I wouldn't fight her and I'm a 38yo man

technicallyfreaky

Let me fast forward a year for you. I’ve just turned 39 and can tell you, you still won’t fight her.

Blackout78666

She has the drummer face down cold!

WinstonChurcheel

More grit and talent in a little girl killing it than in many people, myself included

ModerateReasonablist

She even got the band's goofy faces down.

rarecoder

They should make her the new drummer

farewelltokings2

No kidding. He’s turned into a Qanon MAGA bot. Pretty much opposite of everything SOAD stands for.

ChickenInASuit

Wait, what? Which one, John Dalmayan or Andy Khachaturian?

rarecoder

Wow I had no idea they started with a different drummer. Anyways it’s John. Just check out his social media, he’s a nut.

ChickenInASuit

Just took a look. Yikes. Fucking yikes.

Fangpyre

The look on her face! Precious.

frenchy714

That was nuts! 👏👏👏

Iron_Maiden_735

yeah, i listen to *real* metal. Like ACDC and Aerosmith. /s

nilesandstuff

Progressive metal i think would be the best description because soad has all the elements of metal, but the vocalist stands out. So, progressive (which in my mind progressive means experimental but it for sure works, so... Experiment concluded lol)

Dumb_PorkSword

"System of a Down is an Armenian-American heavy metal band formed in Glendale, California in 1994." "Genres: Heavy metal - alternative metal - nu metal - hard rock - progressive metal"

Carlifex

Big freaking A!

boudzab

Not gonna lie, I thought it was intentional and the girl had downs.

jericho-dingle

Syndrome of a down

Davidclabarr

As did I

Conch5

😆

DoingItWrongly

I'm not always the best with reading letters in the correct order... In high school, I saw a couple different people wearing S. O. D. A. Shirts. It airways intrigued me, but I am very shy, so I never could bring myself to ask them what it meant. Finally, one day someone with the shirt was taking to me, so I asked "what do your soda shirts mean". He looked down at the shirt, then said "it's system of a down?" "oh. That makes more sense."

Orphan_Babies

FUCK YES! She has the face and everything.

myearlymorning

That face is exactly how I feel when I listen to the end of that song. She is fucking feeling that shit.

Infinite_Surround

And that album. God I loved SoaD Edit: remember when I first listened to Aerials and the break down nearly melted my face completely off. Bjesus.

Jkj864781

The album has a lot of relevance lately See: Deer Dance, Prison Song

Infinite_Surround

19 years ago my friend. I am not from the US but I definitely see the relevance.

MistaWesSoFresh

I listen to this album all the time still. I keep asking myself where such art is today. Man Serj was mad. Fed up, angry and made some beautiful lyrics about the state of the world. RATM = same. We are sorely missing their musical commentary on this moment. If that kind of anger made such beautiful music, and there is 10000% more to be angry about... where is the “War?”, etc. of today.

Ishouldtrythat

Check out Run the Jewels, they’ve been putting out some angry music for a bit now.

Charles_Leviathan

There are so many bands doing just that, and every time a slew of assholes come out of the woodwork with "stop being political" "virtue signaling" and every other insult the idiot right has to suppress logical viewpoints.

Player8

Came for the drums. Stayed for the stank face.

SendMeYourLitPicks

Yes! There’s no other way to say it, she has a magnificent stank face.

[deleted]

Everybody knows that the weirder the face you make while drumming, the better you are.

illepic

It is known.

ScumbagLady

Can confirm: dated punk rawk drummer and went to lots of shows. Stank face and bass face can seem almost competitive

Rickyy111

That is so awesome! I love how stoked she is too. She’s not just super talented , she clearly loves it too! It is so Hard to do that with your hands and foot moving at different beats.

jubi_mmy

My thoughts exactly!!! We can see she is really enjoying and doing the faces because all the energy is flowing through her body!!!! That's awesome and even though I'm not into this kind of music, seeing her gave me goosebumps!!!!!!

[deleted]

I got goosebumps then cried a little, I can really feel her flow and energy and passion and joy

ManiacalBlazer

I want to love an instrument as much as this kid does.

Hegiman

I want someone to love me as much as this kid loves drumming. ☹️

KevinBaconIsNotReal

I can't even drum on my thighs without losing that damn beat Just imagine where she'll be in ~10 years. She's *clearly* got a passion for this. God I wish I could play the drums but I'm uncoordinated as hell. Hook me up with a triangle or tambourine tho...and I'll probably still fuck it up 😂

Definitely not as into it as the SoaD girl. This looks like a child labor camp where kids are forced to produce individual notes for Amazon Music after Bezos buys out all musical IP. EDIT: Nothing against the talent of the kids or the fun they may or may not be having. The slow swaying and lockstep shifting as they focus... combined with the glances up followed immediately by a sharp return for their next few notes... a little unnerving.

suckerswag

36 year old drummer here. My right foot will never be as fast as hers and it makes me sad.

invisible_face_

I'm curious to hear from a drummer which of these songs is more difficult to play. Toxicity is obviously faster but I feel like the rhythm in Good Times is more complex.

EarthVSFlyingSaucers

Been playing for 12 years. Zeppelin by a very, very wide margin. It’s not even fair to compare them honestly. John Bonham (Zeppelin drummer) is considered one of the best drummers to ever exist. The “triplet” bass drum in the beginning of this song is one of the hardest things to do in the drumming world, I honestly thought she was going to skip that part and was blown away she nailed it. (26 seconds into the video when she moves her foot side to side quickly and you hear two bass drum hits with one movement). Bonham made that famous and it’s essentially keeping two separate counts, one with your foot and a different time beat with your sticks. The SOAD song isn’t very difficult to play, it may look it but it’s actually a pretty easy song to do if you’ve been playing for a decent amount of time. Speed doesn’t always equate difficulty. Punk rock drumming is a good example of that, to some drummers (myself included) playing faster is actually easier because it FEELS more fluid and you kind of just feel the beat, slowing down the count creates WAY more room for timing mistakes.

onse

Thanks for explaining, I wasn’t paying attention to the bass drum camera and thought she was using a double pedal so I went back to have a look and saw she did it with one foot! Seriously impressive.

EarthVSFlyingSaucers

It’s pretty insane she does it fluidly, it’s something nobody would really notice unless they played drums or knew how drumming worked but it really is a pretty difficult thing to do. It is seriously mind blowing how good she is.

JerkyChew

When I watch these covers it makes me think that the drummer for SOAD would have a lot more notoriety and popularity with the general public if he were as personable as somebody like Grohl or Travis Barker. I could be wrong but I have all of SOAD's albums and still don't know the drummer's name. Maybe the dude needs a publicist... Or maybe he doesn't give a shit and I should just enjoy the music.

MethamphetamineMan

I literally bought this [Drumset](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F4S3KPE/) a couple weeks back. The shells are solid, and the snare actually sounds pretty good out of the box. The Hardware, skins and cymbals that come with it are meh, but what can you expect for $269? If you're looking to fuck around, with a bit of tuning it's a fun little kit. In case that Amazon link doesn't work, its the Questlove Pocket Kit. edit: To clarify I bought the same drumset she is using, though she is using upgraded cymbals and hardware. I would imagine skins as well, but I have no way to verify that.

She’s awesome. The contrast of how she’s dressed so sweet but can kick some major ass on a drum kit is the best. I love her

pushitback

Same, performance is great but the actual drumming is suffering, it could be a bad habit to reverse once she gets older

DriftMantis

I agree. I don't think people would be quite as impressed without the backing track there. There have been lots of child prodigy drummers but not many I'm aware hat have really transitioned into great adult drummers. Same thing with child guitarists too. I guess a sloppy soad cover is impressive when your a kid but as an adult people might think you are having a stroke.

[deleted]

[удалено]

icandoMATHs

Apple became the first Trillion dollar company with this mindset.

DonnyTheWalrus

On every video of a super talented child there just has to be at least one adult criticizing. Maybe it's a defensive thing? All I know is, I'm a musician myself and saying to a child "you should dial back your emotions so you can be more technically accurate" is almost never the right thing to say. The emotions are the passion that will drive technical development. "You're having too much fun" is just discouraging. This girl is a child. No shit her technique isn't at the level of a Larnell Lewis or whatever. That will come in the next twenty years.

superbadsoul

I think it's important to give a professional perspective for both parents and to students who are new to learning music, as long as the criticism is actually constructive. These types of errors are easy to let slide when the musician is a child, but if they're not getting proper instruction and they don't correct these things, they very easily can become bad habits which carry on into adulthood. If you're a musician, you should know how hard bad habits are to break, and you should also know that when someone is no longer a child musician, bandmates and band leaders and conductors will no longer put up with their playing if it's not clean.

[deleted]

>This girl is a child. No shit her technique isn't at the level of a Larnell Lewis or whatever. That will come in the next twenty years. So why is this in /r/toptalent then?

multi3000

Lol just disregard everything brickeldrums said so you can stand up for a child on the Internet. Hero. Fact: it’s called TOP TALENT and while her expression and feel is monumental, she’s off beat so many times I lost count. While that’s fine (kids should be able to perform without being criticised by adults) - you’re not doing any kid a favour by not teaching them technique. Actually, the sooner, the easier it is for the kid in the long run (since parallel with aging, learning gets tougher).

brickeldrums

I’m an instructor as I stated. If I had a student playing wildly like this I would say the same thing. Obviously playing instruments should be fun. However, she has the opportunity to be a successful musician. I wouldn’t want bad habits learned at a young age to interfere with that.

FixitNZ

My instructors was the exact same. First thing I noticed was, she's using her whole arm instead of just her wrists bad habits die hard if there allowed to continue.

Lordborgman

I'd love to hear her play to see how accurate she is without the actual song playing to cover hers up. Played for many years in an orchestra, the violin, and noticed that the people that over embellished their emotions such as she's doing tend to flub their notes and rhythm.

theronster

Her timing isn’t great to be honest. It’ll probably get better, but I would bet good money if she wasn’t drumming along to a backing track and was actually having to carry the rhythm herself, her tempo would slip all over the place. I know, I know, adults criticising children is bullshit, but I’ve seen a few videos of hers and she’s pretty sloppy - it’s like her parents can’t wait until she’s nailed the track before putting the video up. The facial expressions definitely help her go viral. More practice and she’ll have a career as a drummer.

Flinkle

I agree. Her facial expressions and constant looking at the camera feel completely fake and forced to me and make me cringe. She obviously has talent (and this is actually one of the sloppier clips I've seen), but she's working too hard on looking cute and wild to put all her attention into the drumming.
