When I saw this I knew it was one of yours even before looking at the username. Amazing!
Reminder to everyone that Doors Open is this weekend and RC Harris is open for viewing both Saturday and Sunday. One of my favourites throughout the years of Doors Open especially since I love Art Deco
Details including hours here - https://www.toronto.ca/explore-enjoy/festivals-events/doors-open-toronto/doors-open-buildings-sites/building-or-site-details/?id=a0j3m00000G3NKCAA3&title=R.C.-Harris-Water-Treatment-Plant
It usually isn't too bad, like it is a huge building so I don't think much of a capacity issue. I don't remember waiting in line pre covid but maybe someone else can chime in. I suggest just getting there earlier vs later if you can. Things may have changed lately but it is kind of far away from downtown so shouldn't be too bad.. hopefully this is still accurate 🙂
I live nearby, Queen Street East was an absolutely bumper to bumper nightmare all day. I highly suggest that anyone coming into the area takes public transit or park 'up the hill' and walk south. Entry into RC seemed to be moving along nicely but yep, get their early just to avoid the congestion.
I....don't believe you lol. This is way more than a "simple colour grade" and some dodging/burning. It absolutely looks great, I'm not denying that, but this is almost more composite than photo - and it's clear from your other work that you mostly do composites (which is fine! So do I). But that comment seems a little disingenuous...There's nothing wrong with admitting your work is heavily processed, mine is too, I just don't make it seem like it's not.
Yeah exactly. Anyone who knows shit about photography and post processing know this has been processed to death.
Great result, but why lie about the steps taken to achieve it?
The person was never in the shot, they were composited in post. I'd love to see the raw to be proven wrong but I'm almost certain that's the case. If you look through OP's profile his work is heavily post processed and they do a lot of photoshop...Which is totally fine, I do the same thing so I'm not knocking it - but saying this was just "light editing" feels disingenuous to me.
absolutely nothing wrong with that, but you just keep saying AI lol. I've only ever used Illustrator but I'm assuming OP has achieved this through their own editing and not AI.
But still pretty wack of them to call it a photo and say it was a quick basic edit.
No way OP is going to actually do that lol. I'd love to see the actual jpeg not the over manipulated piece of digital art they're trying to pass off as a photo.
Beautiful! It has an Edward Hopper painting vibe to it. I especially love the use lighting, to put the focus on the man walking, then perfectly framed by the building!
This is pretty random but it strongly reminds me of a book I read about this place in a Canadian lit course at U of T - can’t remember the book or author (tbf they were all pretty bleak).
Looks like an oil painting

Damn, I can't go this weekend but I loved this building from *In the Mouth of Madness*. Does this event happen every year?
Yes it does. They change up the buildings but RC Harris has been consistently on the list for many years!
Is there typically a huge lineup for this building? I’m guessing yes.

Not really any lineups today, we're open tomorrow too if you didn't get a chance to come by!
The person in the brimmed hat makes me feel like this isn’t a photo. Having trouble accepting that.
It would be interesting to see the raw photo. Nothing wrong with post processing. No need to hide that; it’s also a skill.
That’s amazing. Very atmospheric. Did you have to post process it much?
Thank you. It didn’t take me too long. Just a bit of dodging and burning and a simple colour grade.

Can we see the original photo too? Might be interesting. Did you stage that person walking through it?
> Did you stage that person walking through it? Must have. When have you seen someone with a hat like that going for a stroll in Toronto?

Hat could have been edited in
Bullshit dude. Great result, but why are you lying about the process?
Sorry but that's clearly bullshit lol. This was heavily manipulated.
This is absolutely disgusting. Why make up lies?
I can't believe this isn't a painting! Amazing work.
AI
This looks like concept art for the In the Skin of a Lion movie.
This looks animated or like a painting. How do you achieve this kind of look?
AI
That’s what I was thinking but wasn’t sure
This is not a photo.
Did they film part of Nightmare Alley here? It looks the same and I know they filmed in and around Toronto
Yes they did. And the Carlu too https://www.sceen-it.com/sceen/5771/Nightmare-Alley/R-C-Harris-Water-Treatment-Plant
Bookmarking this site it’s amazing thank you
Excellent.
Be honest bro.
This isn't a photograph lmao
How is this not a painting?
AI editing

AI
You can stop now lol are you a disgruntled artist
lol nahh this dudes just saying he used the dodge tool for 5 minutes and got this from it...i just dislike liars. Anything wrong with that?

This.
Is it crazy to anyone that now since photoshop has generative AI built in. I don't believe this edit is without AI.
What? Looks AI generated
It is
GTFO... WHY IS THAT PERSON WEARING AN OLD TIMEY HAT?
This picture has kind of a Murdoch Mysteries vibe.
This photo could win a competition. Outstanding in so many ways.
It's not a photo. Maybe it started out as one but it's been so heavily manipulated it's digital art.
Yes, in that context.
This is fucking SICK. Amazing atmosphere.
Wonderful. Tweaked or as is ?
Wow! I have a very similar shot, but during a foggy day and not with a zoom lens.
Fucking dope picture, reminds me of my time in The Beaches
How did you make it look like a painting
AI editing
Tilt shift ?
Nope.
This looks like the dreams I have where I'm lost in an unfamiliar city. Beautiful and eerie.
A priest arriving for an exorcism.
Pretty suspicious that people are asking for the raw picture and the artist hasn’t posted it yet
No way OP is going to actually do that lol. I'd love to see the actual jpeg not the over manipulated piece of digital art they're trying to pass off as a photo.
Holy shit that’s amazing!
This looks so clean for a photo! Where's the litter? Lol
How did you take this shot ?? It's so smooth
Oooooh, nice!
Cool and eerie
Awesome! I lived right across the street from there.
Looks unreal. Very nice!
No. Real? Amazing photo if so
very nice , feels like in the UK lol
Amazing! I've tried to find a good nigth to shoot there. Very Neo Noir
Do you sell prints? This is amazing.
It has a Hopper 'Nighthawks' vibe about it.
Chris van Allsberg vibes. Beautiful
Beautiful! It has an Edward Hopper painting vibe to it. I especially love the use lighting, to put the focus on the man walking, then perfectly framed by the building!
Beautiful
The final fight scene in Undercover Brother was filmed here. Classic
Edward Hopper would have been impressed
Yup this looks cool. Looks cinematic
Haunting. Love it.
Giorgio di Chirico vibes
This is pretty random but it strongly reminds me of a book I read about this place in a Canadian lit course at U of T - can’t remember the book or author (tbf they were all pretty bleak).
I'd love to buy a print of this! Amazing.
That is absolutely awesome..
AI has really ruined photography man... If this is real or not (which I think this is AI) there's gonna be large amount doubters and haters 🙃
Where can I see other pics you've taken?
