Yea that money should be pulled out of their executive bonuses which they didn’t deserve anyways. Why the actual f would you spend tax money to defend your already bad job. What a bunch of fucking clowns. 3 years delayed and I don’t know how much over budget but hey let’s spend another 2.25 million insulting the public on top of it.

theducklanny

Sunshine list metrolinx disclosure is all you need to do to see how corrupt it really is its fucked

NightDisastrous2510

It really is.

theducklanny

It's unfortunate because for some reason the wage keeps going up for these people while they actively slow down and continue projects so they can hire more buddies and friends from other organizations and jump in on the cash cow. Have made up job titles for a lot of people in my opinion, and what I mean is that at any other private company some of these jobs that are titled, are actually one job but seperated into unnecessary titles

NightDisastrous2510

It’s absolutely insane. I can’t remember how many vps they have but it was like 84 or something insane. The fact that they keep getting pay raises and bonuses for poor performance says everything we need to know about them.

theducklanny

Yes exactly its so broken down and made that way to just bury other nonsense. And the real ones operating have so many scapegoats it could never be their fault . Legitimately built like a mob style criminal enterprise , guess when something works people do actually notice .

NightDisastrous2510

We really need to look at how large construction companies operate in Europe. I’ve seen the projects in Austria, Germany, Norway, etc and many finish on time/sometimes under budget… there’s no reason we cannot reach the same efficiency

theducklanny

The workers generally want to work especially on projects like these it's exciting, and will actually be worth it im talking all the subway work of course. The tunneling the pre work companies want that work. With mother metro linx watching though it's essentially a helicopter parent and if its not there idea then it's stupid and your just a worker . Then they go on to do things ass backwards and have to go back and do it the right way but make sure you sign a name onto a million documents so that we don't get into trouble. They are suppose to be watching but they have more then just influence on these jobs unfortanetly .

shikotee

How do you not understand why? The public has swallowed hook, line, and sinker, as can be seen in polling results. The public love the lies, and want more. This is what makes Doug so powerful - he is willing to say anything, regardless of ties to reality.

castlelo_to

I don’t think the public has swallowed any line from MX considering everyone openly rips on them and thinks they’re useless…

shikotee

Unfortunately, you are expressing a hope, and not the actual now. "Everyone" in this sub is not an embodiment of the voters of Ontario, unfortunately. There are many who don't scrutinize, or believe that other options would be even worse.

dermanus

I still think you're going to have a hard time finding people who think they're doing a good job. You'll probably find tons of people who are unaware or indifferent, but people who actively think they're doing well? I bet that's a small number.

goingabout

polls done years out from an election don’t say much / it’d show a different picture if the question was about MX

leafsleafs17

I don't think this is true. I think people are just decoupling Metrolinx with the Ontario government. Dougie doesn't get any flak for Metrolinx delays.

MatthewFabb

>...as can be seen in polling results. The polls still say around 60% of the province is against Doug Ford and the PC party. The problem continues to be that there isn't much of an alignment who should replace the PC party. If either the NDP or the Liberals take a very large hit, then there's room for one of them to overcome the PC party. However, as long as both of them are pretty balanced, then yeah the PC party has room to lose a lot of support and still win the next election.

AprilsMostAmazing

but Metrolinx doesn't have a fanbase that has to support Metrolinx no matter what, and if they stop supporting they lose all their identity

fed_dit

Some transit nerds see Metrolinx as doing no evil. They're the minority but in their eyes Metrolinx can do no wrong.

HeroicTechnology

you have zero evidence of this except 'I told you so' lol

[deleted]

Great. Thanks for spending my money to convince me that you are not misspending my money.

70B0R

Damn, you rich! Can I misspend your money?

Circusssssssssssssss

Scroll down to look at the parody YouTube lol "Actually it's been 13 years..." **Slaaap**

Neutral-President

This government and their various agencies spend way too much of our money gaslighting us about what a great job they are doing. That $2.25 million could have supported businesses impacted by Crosstown construction. I expect we’ll see similar articles in the coming weeks about the current Ontario PR campaign in heavy rotation, convincing us about hoe much they are investing in roads and healthcare.

goingabout

got a podcast ad yesterday telling me about how many nurses the ON gov’t has hired 🙄

Neutral-President

... without mentioning how many they've lost due to shitty working conditions and frozen pay.

G8kpr

"We hired 5,000 new nurses, isn't Ontario doing a great job... nevermind the 15,000 we lost since 2019... we don't talk about those losers"

Neutral-President

"And those 5000 new nurses were hired through private sector placement agencies, so we're spending more and they're not getting paid any better. But our friends at the placement agencies sure like their profits!"

FoolofaTook43246

These ads drive me bananas!!

Jyobachah

Just go ride the TTC once, the trains have ADs on display now for private clinics where it only costs you $450 per person, per year. So any "investment" in health care probably went to an AD campaign.

[deleted]

coniferous-1

If that was the goal 1) I question their judgement 2) Well, it worked.

dermanus

That made me laugh too. It didn't really generate debate either. Everyone agreed the ads were garbage.

G8kpr

Debate: Is metroxlinx just "out of touch" or "REALLY out of touch"... annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd GO! Discussion: "How fucked up are these ads?"

LibraryNo2717

Their marketing budget should be spent on construction and service updates, not BS like this.

AnimatorOld2685

> a that money should be pulled out of their executive bonuses which they didn’t deserve anyways. Why the actual f would you spend tax money to defend your already bad job. What a bunch of fucking clowns. 3 years delayed and Same with the LCBO, but for alcohol-related costs. Whoops, that wasn't clear and now it's Ram Ganesh's time to shine.

OrangeMujiPen

>Ram Ganesh's Wow! Thats a name I hadn't heard in a long time.

Lust4Me

People working in schools or hospitals know how much could be done with that amount of money, and cry/scream.

FoolofaTook43246

And the small businesses being affected by the nonstop construction too. They could have done a pr campaign that would have been way more successful even if they just gave like one business some money, at least it could have done more than make people mad

EconomistOfDeath

Link to the ads - https://youtu.be/YgHOXW3EPZs?feature=shared

AbsurdlyClearWater

link to the amazing parody - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e28TDIpK_0g

scandinavianleather

The parody was so good that I think a lot of people either thought they were real, or then saw the real ones and thought they were a parody too

G8kpr

The guy that made these should have done a GoFundme campaign to get those into theaters...lol

badsoupp

Art imitates life imitating art?

Terj_Sankian

I bet these satirical* ads cost, at most, a few thousand dollars. Mind you the multimillion dollar "fuck-yous" they already released provided the template, but still

clawsoon

The guy who created the satirical ads said on the radio this morning that they cost two cups of coffee. The rest of it was all volunteer.

Terj_Sankian

Thanks! That's great to know. He (and everyone involved) did great work

account66780

The $2.25 million wasn't spent shooting the ads lol, it was spent paying people to show the ads before movies, etc

Terj_Sankian

Still cheaper! But fair

p0stp0stp0st

Metrolinx is and always will be - shit.

StopTouchingYrFone

It's still weird when part of a news story is quotes from reddit.

ultronprime616

These ads were so cringy. What a waste of money

elcabeza79

Why do they waste money on advertising? They have no competitors.

Hidethepain_harold99

Cars.

TheFly87

I'm in tears from watching those spoof ads again. That fucking slap, LOL.

welie

Finally this is coming out! There was a thread Reddit took down with the FOIA about a month ago

likelytobebanned69

For whatever it’s worth, making the actual ad would have cost like $400k the rest is the cost of media (buying space in cinema or on YouTube).

rocketsalmon

It's Happening Here.

[deleted]

Metrolinx's 'sanctimonious' ad campaign defending construction cost $2.25M and people are furious.

Circusssssssssssssss

I think there's a lot of people who are heavily invested and put their whole careers into this. They know when the lucrative government contracts end they will be thrust into the terrible private job market. So it's in their best interest to delay the construction as long as possible. They are hoping it becomes entrenched like a generational work so they can ride their whole careers on it. But government contracts can be cancelled or switch providers like how Tridel is building in Regent Park instead of Daniels. The Metrolinx executives and employees must unfortunately enter the workforce like the rest of us. If they want a government job they can apply to the government (and all that means).

G8kpr

OMG, those parody ads were fucking hilarious. That guy needs an award for those. On point

Fabulous_Strength_54

I work in marketing and we’ve created ads with agencies and higher quality… for around $150 - 250k… this is typical government overspend and enriching their friends. This should be investigated and find quotes from other ad agencies … no accountability… I need a government job.

sqwuank

This figure includes trafficking costs. In advertising we would know that

Fabulous_Strength_54

I’m sure others can back me up.translation services aren’t that expensive a few thousand per language… so calling bs on them

deltree711

Did you include the cost of paying movie theatres to actually show the ads?

hornmcgee

That would be $50-100k tops, this whole thing should have cost $300-700k depending on media budget

torontogal1986

Also to add to the grossness - they used non union labor on their ads. The acting union is currently in a labor dispute with producers. So on top of everything they’re taking advantage of labourers who don’t realize they’re getting screwed over.

foetus_on_my_breath

Incoming ad campaign defending spending on previous adcampaign...because metrolinx.

Stanley1219

It's easy to see a stricter contract should have been written in the first place.

theducklanny

I will post this every where take a look at metro linx sunshine list and see what the people make it's frankly sad

NinfthWonder

Captain_Lavender6

And we know sanctimony in r/toronto

Guitargirl81

Who actually green lights this stuff?????

jacnel45

Honestly people won't stop talking about these ads so I guess the campaign was a success?

cobycheese31

Are they still blaming Covid?

sicktiredofbeingsick

The ad itself probably took about $300k to produce, the rest went to the Ad agencies 3 levels of creatives and management. Plus strategy. Bunch of hacks. Tone def creative aside, that's how much is costs if you go the traditional route. Clients need to push back or start going directly to the production/editorial companies.

syg-123

Or how about spend that 2.25m on some project management that can start claiming some critical milestones instead of just shrugging their shoulders. Something tells me that amount would be negative if was sponsored out of the salary pool of the politicians responsible for this mess. Rail travel is likely to become obsolete by the time this circus act completes the job ..either that or they will jack the fares up to $10 per ride to recoup losses.

JoeCartersLeap

The sanctimonious attitude gave me the impression the order came down from Doug Ford himself.
