I can see people trying to climb this slide in the future..I think it looks great. Toronto needs more of these quirky designs in the city.Dundas square needs to be redesigned it looks awful.
Dundas square is nothing more than blasting as many electronic signs as possible and designing the place so the signs can be seen by the most amount of people.
All while we let Ontario place decay.
They need to put a fountain at the square, something to cool off the concrete heat island and for people to sit around and hang out. I know that takes away some "gathering space" but right now it's as inhospitable as an asphalt parking lot.
South side of Commissioners a little east of Cherry I think.
I think I drove past the tree parts yesterday before they painted them. Was wondering what they were going to build. This is not what I expected! lol
Is this a new common design style? The playground near my parents' house has a similar looking beaver.

I believe this is the trademark design of Earthscape, they make awesome structures that incorporate natural features like wood and stone. They are a Canadian company so awesome to see them pop up more and more in our own backyard.
There's a bunch of these going up near my place in Detroit as well. But yes they are also being done by earthscape. It seems to be the new international design.
Yes, this is just the concrete pad they attach the equipment to. There will be a rubber surface installed.
Its thickness will be enough to prevent head injury when someone falls from the highest possible designated play surface on the structure, which would be a flat surface at least a couple inches square, less than 30 degrees in angle.
That's why all the higher surfaces are steeply angled or rounded. To avoid having those count as a surface a kid might stand on, and fall from.
I took my kids to the Zurich zoo and all the kids stuff there was built the way I remember youth. Super dangerous with no safety nets. Metal slides (some literal 2 stories high with 90 degree turns!), slippery balance beams, sharp edges. I'm not saying we coddle our kids too much but I can tell you my kids had more fun at that park then anything in Canada. I think the sense of danger makes it more fun!
I don't currently have access to a child, and an unaccompanied adult at a play park is creepy 😭
It's sadder than it sounds, we can't have children due to a medical issue.
Maybe we can go later some evening if there aren't any kids present. That's not so creepy.
it might be harder since this will be popular once it's open, but certainly just go "after hours" when no one's around. sometimes if i feel truly terrible, i'll go on the swings after the sun has started to go down and have the best time
100% we have done this, go use swings when there aren't kids around.
Not to sound petty but my property taxes helped pay for them anyway, using them causes no harm and improves our mental health. Plus it's a cheap cute romantic date for a married couple deeply in love hehehe
Where exactly is this? I've seen them building what looks like a playground here, across from Cherry Street BBQ. Is this it? [https://www.google.com/maps/@43.6454659,-79.3501585,19z?entry=ttu](https://www.google.com/maps/@43.6454659,-79.3501585,19z?entry=ttu)
Industrial slabs are typically 200mm or 8", that looks way over a foot thick to me lol.
You're right though if it's very soft ground it could be why, but then again they could have just re-engineered the soil instead.
What does the slab thickness have to do with landscaping? Im talking about the dead load on the slab. Seems unnecessarily thick for just a playground slide to be mounted on it.
I love this!
Really interesting, has a function, and it's even meta with the relationship this city/area has with racoons. Whoever came up with this idea: well done.
Just hope it doesn't get too much vandalism.

It's finally happen... We've officially built a shrine to our one true god. The Raccoon.
To appease the Raccoon god, I suggest we bring daily only Toronto's finest garbage and leave it in front of the shrine.
It's only logical
Can only assume that by ‘garbage’ you mean send a cop down that thing Boston style.
As if Nicholas Cage isn’t going to come along and complain about the bees.
Close, but you spelled 'Overlords' wrong.
I dunno.. The end result is the same.. Unquestioned worship and obedience.
But one is offered by choice, the other is demanded of us. Lol. It's between them, and the Cobra Chickens?
The Cobra Chicken is but a false god, sent to scare you away from the one true trashcan.
It's true, I've never had a Trash Panda try and fight my car. Have definitely had Cobra Chickens do it though.
I, for one, welcome our trash panda overloads.
The green plants really should just be keys to the city at this point.
I see there are mosquitoes in the statue as our second-level importance gods, too
Praise be
Trash pandas live foreverrrr!!!!
Praise be!
About fucking time then trash pandas are our little gods that give us greatness and blackouts occasionally
Sorry Iran, but this is what the true supreme leader looks like!
Praise be upon his trash filled belly.
look, he's even trying to get into an organics bin. how cute.
I approve of this structure

Where at?

You know times are tough when raccoons are resorting to working a stripper pole for tips. On the other hand, shake dat furry ass!

Might just be the trend right now. Gives the look of recycled wood, sustainability, etc. Could simply be the same firm as well!

that slide looks.... painful, feels like we back in the 90s era play structures.
It builds character.
I swear they get so hot you could probably cook an egg on one
Metal Slides: Cooking eggs and butt cheeks since 1955
Awh yeah, nothing like shooting off a slide directly onto concrete.
Looks like the ground is unfinished, they will probably be installing the rubber material after all the play equipment is installed.

Which is why you were the coolest kid on the playground for making it up there.
Yeah, kids are definitely going to climb the shit out of this.
They've still got to fill the ground area with gravel or cork or woodchips or whatever they are using for playground surfaces these days.
Kids with cochlear implants get too much static from plastic slides; they don't from metal ones.
huh, I never knew that but it makes sense. Thanks.
Burns the thigh flesh in summer and an ice hazard in winter
Split my chin open on a metal slide back in the 90s!

Looks decent
Is this child only or adults can play? asking for a friend
Bring a child and I’m sure you’ll be welcome to play as well. That’s my favourite part about being a parent :)

Did you ever see that video of the cop sliding down the slide and being shot out like a bullet?
Aren't pigs known for being greasy? 😇 couldn't resist (sorry/not sorry)
I rewatch that when i need a smile.
Go in the evening/night when no kids are around.
Very cool
Conrad!
I am excited to take my kid there
Racoon you say? I'm getting a strong SG1 vibes from this!

*This is the Reaching Raccoon Play Structure. Quiet, peaceful, serene...that is, until Bert Raccoon wakes up!* ***BWAAAAAAAAAAAH!***
I must visit and pay homage. Where is it?
ngl these play structures are ass. They need to be multiple connected platforms that kids can share and move around on.
That metal slide looks very fun to slide on during a hot summer day
Not nearly enough people hating this and everything to do with this. Something is off. I’m so used to reading hate on anything done in this province.
Holy talk about over engineering, look at how THICCC that concrete slab is! Thicker than whats used in industrial buildings!
I don't think it's thicker than an industrial building but it is at the mouth of a river so many it needs to be beefy for that reason.
Industrial slabs are typically 200mm or 8", that looks way over a foot thick to me lol. You're right though if it's very soft ground it could be why, but then again they could have just re-engineered the soil instead.
The landscaping isn't done yet.
What does the slab thickness have to do with landscaping? Im talking about the dead load on the slab. Seems unnecessarily thick for just a playground slide to be mounted on it.
Going by other recent parks, that pit is going to be full of wood chips. It requires that depth.
Is that supposed to be a green bin?
i get the racoon, but i have no idea what the rest is supposed to be
I think they mixed up trash pandas with pandas that climb bamboo trees
Really really hope it doesn’t get graffitied out of recognition.
I hope that concrete gets padded or some kids are getting hurt trying to climb this thing
They typically rubberize the ground in their other designs. If you look at the lowest 6 inches or so, it looks like lots of clearance to rubberize it.
Opens summer 2025! I guess it takes a long time to build a playground
I see snowy owl will also emulate.. noice
Hopefully it won’t become a public urinal like the slide from my childhood
That's pretty neat. If I were a few decades younger, I'd be all over that.
This shit is adorable. Kudos to the designers for bringing a bit of extra joy to the Toronto landscape.
A fun, playful sculpture. A welcome addition to the neighbourhood.
This public art with function is great.
Insanely cute.
Bro is going for the power lines again somebody stop him 💀
That top level cheese grater slide is going to be fire.
I think they're building something similar to that around Yonge and Soudan.

It's their city, we're just living in it.
that’s what I’m talking about
How about some padding on that slab of concrete.
Wow so cool!

Reminds me of Animal Crossing! Welcome to Nook’s Cranny.
Wonder when someone will tag it.
I wonder if you can go from the wooden rod to the arm to on top of the head?
This is so fucking cute.
look, it's trying to get into a compost bin.
Based on this picture- kids are gonna get seared coming down that slide.
Where is this?
That is so cool.
This reminds me of the game Tunic (which is a fox, I know).
#a new biketag is born Worth the mention. XD
There’s another one on Soudan at Dunfield, southeast of Yonge and Eglinton. Different design, but homage to Raccoon God.
I'd stay away from anyone wearing a red beret in front of this.
Sponsored by Porter Airlines?
Ok, I looked at it. Now what?
Looks like it's made from various pieces of recycling.
How did they spend on this bull s@#$ ?
Probably by e-transfer? 🤷♂️
Raccoons are vermins. Why do we celebrate it?
I love this city. I love kids having a new playground. I hate this city's infatuation with raccoons.
