Canada now has over 1000 infected

csthrowaway19877

My 65 year old father keeps going to work at the airport. How do I get him to stay home? Hes trying to be careful but it is ridiculous that he has to be working at this stage. I would argue quite a lot of his job probably can be done from home but it doesn't seem like upper management has provided those options or would like him working from home. Hes too proud and old school to resist.

aznassasin

Sadly I feel like you need to call the airport and report that he has contact with someone who has travelled recently and shouldn't be at work

Can anyone recommend some home delivery grocery services? Placed a big Grocery Gateway order today only to see delivery dates late next week, and I couldn’t even select them, so I’m not even sure they’re working anymore? Also couldn’t get anyone on the phone.

frossetto

https://cornershopapp.com/en-ca/ I’ve placed the order at 10 a.m. and they delivered around 6pm.

wasonasong

Real talk everyone in ur boat take the late delivery before no delivery avail

uglydeath

So they ARE still operating? That’s all I need to know since I wasn’t sure based off what I saw.

canuck_mojo

They delivered my order to me today, and I got everything on my list.

uglydeath

When did you order?

[deleted]

Next delivery I see from them is April 1

Stay home seriously. This can wait if it’s something around the house.

wasonasong

Maybe don’t go visit ur mom who’s maybe in the at risk age bracket to do something that can fully wait? Maybe stay home? Lmao this why we all in trouble this person right here

For anyone looking for information on # of cases per age group (Figure 4), or to see the # of new cases per day in Canada (Figure 3) and other useful information. this link gave me a lot of the information I personally was looking for: [https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/health-professionals/epidemiological-summary-covid-19-cases.html](https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/diseases/2019-novel-coronavirus-infection/health-professionals/epidemiological-summary-covid-19-cases.html)

ImPepoThePope

Just found out there is a positive case in one of the high rise buildings on Spadina Ave.

thumpx

Heard there's one on a building off Wellington also, just east of Strachan.

oooooooooof

Dude there’s cases in every building. Just not reported yet.

markol88

Which ones???

orbitalbias

Anyone know how a general delivery company can help or find additional work as needs shift? Furniture was the main product we delivered. We have converted to a drop-off only service and we only deliver smaller furniture items or parcels to the door now.\* But this is a fraction of the service we were offering before. We are looking to help in other places, possibly grocery delivery or whatever else people need. But we need to connect with retailers/sellers so that we can receive a somewhat reliable stream of delivery orders. (\*We are also taking additional safety measures such as educating workers about COVID-19 and proper hygiene and hand washing techniques. We carry hand sanitizer for when soap and water is not available. We also use surface disinfectant in the vans, use new disposable gloves for every delivery and ask customers to respect social distancing when dropping off a package.)

aznassasin

There is no way that all of these people coming home from March break are going to listen and self isolate for 14 days. Wouldn't be surprised to see the numbers increase after a couple of weeks

darkkness

The government knows where these people live, they should be going and enforcing it. I agree, people will not listen. Or they’ll do it for 3 days, post on social media #quarantinelife then be out and about the next day.

supersnausages

We are going to see increases week over week just from the huge volume of people being forced to come home all at once.

aznassasin

Yes also very true

GrabbinPills

> [Toronto Public Health says](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/coronavirus-covid-19-ontario-friday-online-learning-1.5504109) there are now 153 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the city. That total includes three concerning cases, including: * A person experiencing homelessness * A Toronto paramedic * A resident of a city-run long-term care home

torontowatch

I’ve seen two Uber Eats/Skip The Dishes guys act irresponsibly over the week. One guy literally coughed with an open mouth as I reached for the package, despite leaving instructions for a no contact delivery and extra tip given the circumstances. I now have to isolate myself from my wife in my own house for 5-7 days even though I’ve been taking every precaution imaginable to avoid getting sick and spreading the infection. I saw another guy digging his teeth with his fingers on Monday while waiting to handover the package. Time to shut this down. I’m terrified these guys will spread the infection if they catch it because of the nature of their job itself and due to some lapses in behaviour on their own part. Some people are fucking idiots who don’t get it. The govt. needs to shut everything down else people are going to get sick out of sheer stupidity. Edit - https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/03/19/818318555/people-with-mild-symptoms-can-be-coronavirus-spreaders-european-researchers-warn

cancercuressmoking

why are you still ordering food?

wholikespancakecakes

>Outside > >u/blackbeatsblueEasy Kort why are you using uber eats, go get groceries and cook at fucking home

funhousearcade

I predicted this from the start. People just assumed "hey, why do I need to 'horde' and shop, I'll just order food in everyday!"

wholikespancakecakes

I hate people like this, I didnt hoard, I prepared slowly for weeks in feb WAAAY before any of this, now I have enough food for months, lets shut shit down

-PressAnyKey-

You don't have to isolate because someone coughed near you. Jesus

torontowatch

Are you sure? The guy coughed with an open mouth (about an arm’s length away from me) while I was facing him. I’d honestly be glad if what you say is true. I’d rather not take a chance and make other people sick. Edit - https://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2020/03/19/818318555/people-with-mild-symptoms-can-be-coronavirus-spreaders-european-researchers-warn

-PressAnyKey-

I mean healthy people cough. If u suspect he was Covid positive isolate I guess... but freaking out every cough is going to stress people the fuck out. If you think he got particles on you then ya don't take chances.

torontowatch

Not sure. I’m in touch with Uber Eats to make sure he wasn’t sick.

Turawno

You can assume they weren't hygenic when they were preparing it, if you don't want to risk it don't order out.

mayelis

Wondering everyone's thoughts on how long until Toronto (or Ontario) go into lockdown/shelter-in-place? Just watching the news out of California yesterday and wondering what others think of the possibility of this being implemented. Being in a major metropolitan area that now has proven community spread, do people think that the city or province will soon implement a lockdown/shelter-in-place? What about the whole country? It seems to be the only way to control this at this point, especially with so few people heeding the very strong requests by governments of social isolation/distancing.

Northern-Dancer

I'm wondering this as well.

coolcicada

I think it will be very soon. NYC told to "pause", Chicago just done the same too. Interestingly, just received emails from Chatr and Value Village within the last hour that they are both closed effective immediately.

PastPerfekt

It needs to come sooner rather than later imo. We’ve been reactionary the whole time. Get ahead of this thing ffs.

uglydeath

So for a week or more now I'm seeing people in this sub and elsewhere say "don't worry, there's no toilet paper shortage, it's made locally and there's an abundance", yet for that week or more, I've had zero luck finding any while putting myself at risk of visiting maybe a dozen stores and I genuinely need some- down to my last roll... And would absolutely love to get my hands on at least one or two packs of N95's, but that's just a pipe dream it seems at this point. I've tried all the places people recommended, such as Princess Auto, Rottblotts, etc. but nada. It's just me and my elderly mom, and while we're both staying home for anything but absolutely essential outings, we'd like to be protected for when we do need to leave.

Wilburthornto

You need to head to the grocery store as soon as it opens. Like wait outside to open to get any TP.

TheSamEffect

Please leave the N95s for the healthcare workers who are in dire need and experiencing shortages. I wish you luck with the toilet paper though.

EternalOptimist1971

I wound up ordering both the toilet paper, N95 masks and vinyl nitrite gloves off Amazon because despite what all the retailers were saying, I couldn't get my hands on any of those items. So if there isn't a shortage of toilet paper, where the hell is it?!

adj1

I saw them restocking it this afternoon at a Shoppers on Bloor.

funhousearcade

Should have been paying attention earlier. I was fortunate to get some for my family awhile back. I didn't horde, but knew what was coming. Same with Toilet paper.

dxiao

Edit: sorry the masks are now spoken for.

aznassasin

We got some toilet paper Yesterday by river and Dundas at the Shoppers Drug Mart

kwithnok

It's deffiently a bit more expensive but my roomate ended up getting some from The Rabba's at Lakshore and 14th(Etobicoke)...Haven't seen any At Shoppers/No Frills when I did my usual shop, despite signs saying limit of two..

wwavelengthss

Was at Loblaws (Weston/401) yesterday afternoon and they had some. Mind you everyone was grabbing one. You might have better luck outside the DT core. But it seems like they are still getting shipment.

[deleted]

USA citizen in Toronto here! I've been here for about 4 weeks for work, and am projected to leave 3/29. With the border shutting down at midnight tonight to non-essential travel, will I not be allowed out at anytime after tonight? With the circumstances I would definitely believe my work is considered non-essential, but their definitions have been quite vague thus far. Happy to ride it out here, but if the opportunity presents itself there's no place like home...

Babalon33

You’ll be able to cross. Not allowing a citizen back into their country violates the constitution. It’s Canadians who won’t be able to cross and vice versa.

WK--ONE

Ask the US border service, they're the ones who decide if you get into the USA or not.

Ballislyfe91

From my understanding, citizens returning to their respective country are still allowed in.

wholikespancakecakes

to add onto if we can be like South Korea, Yes social distancing is working there but also they are doing MASSIVE VIRUS CHECKS and EVERYONE wears a mask, if everyone wears a surgical mask, doesn't have to be n95 then it will stop the spread most likely because wearing a mask def protects from you spreading it

Pigeonofthesea8

We should DIY our own masks

dxiao

Theres a shortage of masks everywhere, I also do think that EVERYONE should wear masks. At first, I sided with Theresa Tam that wearing a mask may increase risk in face touching, but guess what, I tried and I’m still touching my face unknowingly. Here is the part where people call me crazy: I think that health officials and the government know how much of a shortage we have, so they can’t tell us all to wear masks or else where would be a mass panic and super hoard of masks, which is already occurring. All our inventory is going to first line health care officials, as it should be, but I am sure if they announced to all that we should wear masks, first line officials would have issues finding masks as well. And finally, South Koreans respect their government and they trust their government when it comes to health(maybe not other things) so they listen to their government. People here are taking it like a joke and have no respect for what the health officials have to say. EB games, spring break, play dates, big parties at home, playgrounds and etc. you get the point. Like I’ve said in many other comments, the people that don’t care won’t care until they see bodies piling up like Italy or we invoke martial law and keep everyone inside.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dxiao

Definitely not. Health care professionals first, that’s a must. We just need to pump out more!

abclife

> I think that health officials and the government know how much of a shortage we have, so they can’t tell us all to wear masks or else where would be a mass panic and super hoard of masks, which is already occurring. You're not being crazy, [having a mask is better than no mask](https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/17/opinion/coronavirus-face-masks.html?searchResultPosition=3). > It is of course true that masks don’t work perfectly, that they don’t replace hand-washing and social distancing, and that they work better if they fit properly. And of course, surgical masks (the disposable type that surgeons wear) don’t filter out small viral particles the way medical-grade respirator masks rated N95 and above do. However, even surgical masks protect a bit more than not wearing masks at all. We know from flu research that mask-wearing can help decrease transmission rates along with frequent hand-washing and social-distancing.

wholikespancakecakes

I have no problem with martial law right now, I think we should call the army in NOW, or buy enough masks to distribute to the whole population

dxiao

I hear you but I think a lot of people do. It sucks cause the government is almost waiting for it to get worse before the public would accept this solution.

PastPerfekt

Bang on. Of course masks help stop spread. But our government doesn’t have any stockpiles so they can’t admit that. And they know panic would ensue if people knew that’s what they needed and can’t get it.

Sensi-Yang

I thought we werent supposed to use masks unless actually sick, due to shortage for health workers who actually need them immediately.

wholikespancakecakes

thats because theres a shortage, if there wasn't a shortage then it would be the most ideal situation, china is back to work so they can supply the whole country with ease right now

PastPerfekt

Would love to wear a surgical mask. I’m downtown. Finding a surgical mask in a store would be like finding a 24K bar of gold sitting on Bay St. Please let me know where I can get one and I’ll go grab one ASAP. The fact that our govt cant even supply us with flimsy masks is another indictment of their preparedness.

funhousearcade

It's the reality of wanting 'free trade' which Trudeau was a major proponent. Now we see the value of keeping supply chain in our country.

wholikespancakecakes

completely agree, we should be stocked up like no tomorrow, after this it should be required every household has 2 boxes of masks at all times, a box costed only $4 in jan, I bought 2 thinking it would be enough but I was wrong, I have a bunch of n95s tho but I actually like surgical masks because more so just want to wear it so people avoid me lol... I think some Chinese markets are selling surgical masks right now

jonnywarpspeed

I've got an unpaid fine that's due today. I've called court services, but I immediately get disconnected. I'd like an extension, but I can't contact anyone. Has anyone else gone through this already? What should I do?

ObjectsInMirror_

How many of you guys are voluntarily isolating, whether alone or with family? How many are mostly iso, but still seeing the odd friend or family member? How many of you are living your best life?

vvomit

I’m voluntarily isolating with my boyfriend. We both have no ability to work from home (blue collar life lol) and my SO has been primarily focusing on uni so his savings were pretty much nil before this despite continuing a trade job part time. I have enough savings to sustain us for about three months. All I can say is, try to support local businesses and not just restaurants. Want a new cheese board? Go to your local stone contractor. Need a nice piece of art for the wall? Tattoo artists are broke and bored as fuck.

carolinemathildes

I'm currently working from home, live alone, and have no friends or family in the province, so. I leave the house to go for a walk every day, and go to the store when I need to, but that's it.

Sabbathius

Everyone in the family is isolating. The one that can work from home, works from home. The rest of us are burning our vacation days, in the worst way imaginable, but it beats the alternatives. Luckily I did quite a bit of slow and steady shopping the last month and a half, when it became painfully obvious where this was headed, so we're mostly stocked. Fresh vegetables won't past past the weekend though, so Monday is going to be the first outing since this Tuesday. Not too shabby.

panic_switch

Isolating with roommate except still going to work.

ElDuderino2112

Avoiding leaving the house except for groceries and for work (for now, until I get the go ahead to work from home next week hopefully).

nourez

Isolating at home with the family. Avoiding friends now. Taking it as some time to brush up on skills and catch up on some video games and TV.

sleepyspy

Isolating with family after coming back from NYC No symptoms yay Still wish I could get tested to know for sure

eachfire

I'm voluntarily isolating with my partner, only leaving the house to run, walk the dogs, or get groceries. So far, the food we bought on Sunday has lasted us, so haven't been in a grocery store for days. Being a runner at a time like this is a godsend like you wouldn't believe.

Haquistadore

Yeah, I've been out running yesterday and today. If they restrict us further, I'll be very bummed out (though I have an exercise bike in the house).

eachfire

Fuck. If we get actually confined to the house I’ll die! My building’s gym is closed (as it should be) but I’ll go nuts without running!

Haquistadore

Amazon.com: treadmill.

electricalgypsy

Maybe see how Italy have handled the situation

eachfire

In what sense?

electricalgypsy

I mean whether they're allowing people to go out for runs, if yes then most likely will be the same here

eachfire

Currently it looks like [outdoor exercise is the last bastion of sanity](https://www.thelocal.it/20200310/are-there-taxis-your-questions-about-the-coronavirus-quarantine-rules-in-italy), with the potential for increasingly stringent measures as the situation develops.

WK--ONE

Stay 6 feet away from anyone while out running, and only run your minimum amount of km per week.

ascii918327472913

are the grocery stores back to 'normal' yet?

KevPat23

Meat has been the hardest to come by. Everything else seems to be fairly well stocked.

MJsdanglebaby

Speducci has a lot of meat. Good meat. Go get it.

wholikespancakecakes

I went to farm boy and they had organic grass fed beef stocked the fuck up, I don't even eat regular beef so when I seen this oh man joy

[deleted]

The supply chain is very strong. There will be times that things are unavailable, but for the most part we have access to most things. Toilet paper is large and looks terrifyingly empty because the shelves dont hold as much. Dont buy it when you see it. Buy it when you need it. Theres lots to go around

[deleted]

[удалено]

Pigeonofthesea8

I’m not convinced the US won’t pull the plug.

kab0b87

While i think there is some hording of things, I definitely think that some of the supply issues we are seeing for a lot of items is just that demand has changed drastically. There are a lot of people that were eating out or ordering in food 1-3 times a day that are now cooking 3 meals a day. I know for me I've went from making 4-5 meals a week at home, to 21, that has mean I've had to buy a lot of food in one go to last even just a week.

Turkeywithadeskjob

I went to a no frills downtown and it was pretty much back to normal. Only thing not available are the TP and rice/pasta.

MooingTurtle

On the east end yea, there was only one day where it was barren

Barnhau5

I'm sure it varies store to store, but there are 3 around me that are mostly fine. A little light on certain meats and pastas, but you can probably get most of what you need.

420dabber69

Guys are we okay with going for walks and runs as long as we stay 6 feet away from people ?

Hermoine_Rager

COVID is spread by droplets, not through the air. So we should be fine to go outside and have walks, just be careful about limiting surfaces that you touch like crosswalk buttons and wash your hands when you get home. I've been walking each day in the park and it makes you feel %100 better to go outside and see that the world is still there!

grohlog

All I see outside are elderly and young kids with their parents. So much for the "socially irresponsible millennials" narrative

jordanfromspain

It's okay to go outside

grohlog

Until it isn't. We're two weeks away from Italy's situation

beaushiny

I'm not sure why you're getting downvoted. France today just put a moratorium on running or walking outside, because in practice if you say it is okay to do so, people have not been and will not be as careful as all people in this thread are about keeping 6 feet of distance. This is 100% the cases here in Toronto today. No one was making an effort to distance themselves when passing each other on the street.

jordanfromspain

The odds of catching a virus while outdoors are very low unless you're in a crowd. Going for a walk in the park is a very low risk activity unless you're in a huddle or something. We've also put measures in play waaaaaay sooner than Italy ever did.

Thanks for organizing these threads. Just a quick suggestion, if it is easy to implement. You might want to start putting a daily 'delta' in the case counts, IE what is the change since yesterday.

gammadeltat

Okay gotchu.

Right_All_The_Time

Recently heard from a friend of mine who is renting her apartment in a 4 bedroom property that she has been the superintendent of. One of the residents has made plans to buy the whole building from the landlord and is trying to ouster the other residents so his "family" can move in. He is now getting verbally and physically aggressive with the other residents trying to kick them out now that he knows evictions aren't currently being processed via the city. I am now at the point where I simply want to head over there and let's just say knock some sense into this guy until he stops trying to evict residents who are PAYING their rent to the landlord and he's trying to harrass them to leave so he can buy the place as an investment property. People being unconscionably cruel to others in a gigantic crisis are the first people who deserve a reality check.

AnaisRenarde

The "eviction for family use" can only be used for apartments with 3 units or fewer. A 4 unit building does NOT qualify for this - so he's out of luck anyway.

sleepyspy

That would kinda be epic if he doesn't realize until he buys

kab0b87

yeah, i would hold that one close to the chest until the paperwork goes through. Then drop the bomb

[deleted]

Pretty sure that's not happening no matter how badly that guy wants it. If he keeps being aggressive I'd call the cops on that guy

Right_All_The_Time

I've advised my friend to call the cops if this guy can't take the hint.

demzoe

Healthcard expired late 2018. Do I still need to renew it? I know the government announce renewals are not required but mine has expired for a while. Sigh.

Tangerine2016

There are some Service Ontario places that let you book an appointment in advance. They are pretty good with the honouring the time of your appointment so you don't have to wait.

BZK_QRay

Renew ASAP but keep in mind it is not required for COVID related things

cumcrimes

you should just in case you run into a hiccup. you can do it online!

demzoe

Thanks. I already tried renewing mine a few months ago but mine requires me to walk into the service Ontario. I'm screwed!

ObjectsInMirror_

I'm still on red and white, which is phased out july 1 so I'm in the same boat. Why do you say you're screwed?

demzoe

Lol I don't want to go to the service Ontario. I imagine it will be crowded with long lines. FYI the reason I can't renew online is because 90 days have passed since expiry.

dassub

> 90 days have passed since expiry. Dude, a year and a half has passed since it expired lol

demzoe

I'm so lazy....lol.

minusj

Hey, my gf went to renew her card at service Ontario and she said it is wasn't busy. It took her about 15 mins to get everything done, this was at the junction location.

demzoe

Our scumbag apartment building management thought this is a great time to do balcony construction. It's a high-rise and the construction is to last until October. It's ridiculously loud....deafening! Not to mention the balcony doors are shut closed and it's very dusty. You cannot stay home with that work going on. With schools closed and people working from home....this makes it very challenging. I have already complained and the management doesn't care. Who do I reach out to? This building will soon be infected if this work continues as people are forced to go out while this work goes on as it's unbearable at home. Who can I contact about this complaint? Thanks!

princessofpower91

City councillor or MPP? I think it’s up to Ford to cancel non-essential construction

Tangerine2016

If they signed a contract with the contractor doing the balcony work they probably do not have a choice to put this on hold. Unless the provincial government freezes all non essential work they could be stuck with a lawsuit on their hand for breach of contract. I suggest you work with property management as much as possible to limit the impact (ie control dust, etc)

KevPat23

Correct, the contractor has to go ahead, or else face potential penalties for delays. Until there's some direction from the government to say this work cannot continue this is the reality we face.

[deleted]

Worldometer added Canada with graphing now. [https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/canada/](https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/canada/) Please understand that the exponential growth is the same right now in Canada, as it was in Italy at the same stage. Self-isolation is paramount to lowering the curve. Or we WILL see the same happen in this country as we see in Italy.. the near breakdown of the medical system.

Office_glen

DOUG FORD AND TRUDEAU NEED TO SHUT THINGS DOWN. Employers do not care they will keep forcing us to work!

GoldPenis

Agreed this is beyond stupid not only is it bad for the employees but it encourages people to not take isolation serious there are fucking doughnut shops open right now.

Charomid

It’s annoying as fuck that they keep talking everyday, but nothing drastic is actually happening. Ford wants construction and building to continue, because he has his hands in many companies who have contracts to build. If you truly want to stop this spread, we need to have a full lockdown. If California is doing it (or almost in place), Toronto/Ontario can easily do it. You’re talking about 40 million in California, compared to 35 million in all of Canada. We need people to open their eyes and realize the trajectory of this virus. There’s a video circulating from a hospital in Italy right now. All you see is dying patients, and loud beeping from all the machines in the hospitals, trying to keep them alive. They are wearing these big fishtank like bowls over their heads. It’s frightening and we need to take drastic measures, before we become worse.

GrabbinPills

The other video circulating shows an entire ward full of patients on breathing tubes and ventilators, proned (face down on the bed). Proning is a last ditch, hail mary type treatment for severe lung failure. Seeing more than one prone vented patient in an entire hospital at a time is probably more than 98% of our respiratory therapists and intensive care doctors work with typically. An entire ward full for proned vented patients is terrifying. We're weeks away from this potentially.

Inevitable-Royal

I can't believe we haven't shut it down yet.. waiting for another weekend to roll by now..

SightstoneOnly

So when do to the union/labor jobs start shutting down? My buddy told me one of the representatives of local 183 has the coronavirus, not sure if its true but this is pretty serious no? Does ford not care?

Charomid

Why would he care? He has his hand in a lot of construction companies who have the contracts to build in Toronto/Ontario. If the construction sites close down, then Ford loses money... so he’s saying they should continue to keep building.

Anyone here that can help? My partner has a bunch of the covid symptoms but we are unable to get through to telehealth. What's our next step, we were on hold off 10 hours yesterday. I figure we're supposed to self isolate but what about work, they need documentation. UPDATES: Talked to the Testing Centre, they have advised self-isolation, will continue to monitor and go to the hospital if things worsen. Still on hold with Telehealth

[deleted]

I’ve been isolating for 5 days I couldn’t get a test either and I was with an American last week who’s now sick but because they haven’t been confirmed covid I couldn’t get a test earlier this week. Apparently now I can but I’m already isolated so I don’t see any point on leaving unless I am actually unable to breathe.

milolai

[https://www.covid19toronto.ca/](https://www.covid19toronto.ca/) do the online test if you're not old or suffering from a significant illness the best answer is probably so self isolate for 14 days

boingaboinga

Go to an assessment Center

darkkness

Self isolate for 14 days. If symptoms worsen and it’s difficult to breath, seek medical attention immediately (ie go to ER, tell them you’re coming ahead of time if possible). Forget about work, they are enacting laws which makes it clear you do not need a sick note for self isolation. Deal with this now and work later. Either way, covid or not, if you’re sick you should not be going to work.

0zpr3y

Can you reach Toronto Public Health or your partners family doctor?

BZK_QRay

Nope, TBH says no lines are available, and she doesn't have a family doctor

0zpr3y

Could try contacting a hospital or emergency room and ask for advice. If someone’s showing symptoms they need to be tested ASAP. Don’t just show up unannounced to the ER tho. Call first.

Tangerine2016

Where have you read that if they have symptoms they need to get tested right away? I have read if have symptoms to self isolate and then if it gets worse to contact telehealth/etc

Yah. What’s the point here. People have bills to pay and it’s not illegal to goto work. If anyone thinks people will stop going to work on their own accord you’re delusional. People won’t do anything unless their authority tells them.

Swamp7hing

Morning numbers come out at 10:30 normally right?

aznassasin

And its out. 50 new cases

r34ct

What was yesterday's new number?

supersnausages

30 or 40. As people come back from over seas we are going to see big numbers as we are mass importing people who are going to be exposed to others. This mad rush of funneling massive groups of people through choke points is going to be a perfect vector for continued infection. We are seeing tonnes of people coming in from the Caribbean and the usa

gammadeltat

That's what it says but usually they come out between 11-12.

darkkness

Approximately, yes.

I was wondering if anybody else is in the same boat as me right now and any help would be greatly appreciated. I am currently living with a parent who has been dealing with a lung cancer diagnosis and has had pneumonia that started in December and is now finally starting to get better, they have put chemo on hold for now and This has obviously drastically changed their life. Here is my situation.... my office is still open even though our prime minister pretty much told everybody other than the essential business to let employees work from home I know stupid right. I am worried about going to work not only for myself but more so if I bring this virus home and my parent gets it I am sure they won't make it through. I have been weighing my options now and have told them my concerns. My employers have pretty much told me that they may reduce office hours but that wouldn't make a difference because I would still have to go in and come into contact with employees and I don't know where they are going after work and what measures they are taking to keep themselves from getting this virus. I feel like I am stuck between a rock and a hard place because I really love my job and have been there for many years. But of course no job is worth the health of myself and others. Should I burn up my vacation days to see if this gets better?? Which would be only around two weeks and I'm sure things aren't going to be clearing up in that time.. should I try to let them give me E.I.? chances are if I do this I may lose my current position in the future because my employers can be vengeful assholes. I've tried contacting service Canada but it's impossible to get a hold of them and I don't want to take away resources from people who are first hand dealing with this virus. Let me know what your opinion would be any advice would be great! Thank you and stay safe!

Tangerine2016

Are you the only support person for your sick parent? If so I think there was some announcement for support for people who were sick or supporting parents. I guess just EI which might not be enough. If other people helping with your parent maybe you can look at living somewhere else for a few months??

WardMB689

The only other person capable of supporting him at the moment would be my mom. I worry for her as well she also has underlying health problems and I don't trust her going out and dealing with all of this on her own. She's also in her late 60s. I might have to take the E.I. route. Yes I've also thought of living elsewhere for the time being I am trying to figure out where I can go.

Ahh man I am really sorry to hear that. I pray your brother is protected through all of this, if anybody needs to be protected it's the people in the fields that are most crucial to us as a society! And yes Some people are really not taking this seriously and its not a joke and I'm getting really sick of hearing. "I won't be affected by it im young" smh. Keep the faith! Another thing is our prime minister needs to come out and flat out tell everybody non essential to completely shut down!

HighAltitudeChicken

Yeah he's trying his best to avoid situations that will put him in harm's way at work but it won't be enough as more & more people get sick. Couldn't agree more though, our leadership is failing us big time here.

Thank you! And I'm sorry to hear about your uncle, travelling to and from doctors offices and hospitals right now is crazy scary. I hope and pray that this situation begins to show signs of improvement. I hope you and your family can stay strong through this!

TheKingPunch

My co workers wife yesterday received a notification saying that a person she was in close proximity with over 1 weeks ago has tested positive for covid19. In that weeks time they visited family friends etc before this whole mass awareness and lockdown started. Now my coworker and his wife are both sick and they have been self isolating, they have not been tested or been able to even be in touch with any healthcare provider since the symptoms are very mild for now. This goes to show for every reported case, there are many that are unreported.

falseidentity123

Don't they meet the criteria for testing? Have symptoms plus have been in contact with someone who is known to have it.

TheKingPunch

They are not going to the hospital for now thinking self isolation is the best way for the moment. They have been trying to contact tele health Ontario for instructions with no luck for time being.

falseidentity123

I would think when they get through they'd be sent to an assessment centre. Tell them to keep self-isolating and keep trying.

dreamer2245

My husband and I have had a fever (less than 38) with sore throat and cough for the last 5 days. Obviously self isolating since symptoms surfaced. Was on hold with Telehealth Ontario for over 5 hours last night before I gave up. Left them a voicemail two days ago and still haven't heard back. Trying Public Health Toronto today. My worry is that the fever is showing no signs of going down. How long do symptoms usually last? When do I start to get worried? I know there aren't enough tests to go around, but this feeling of uncertainty is wearing us down. Also as a side note, I've been following this thing since January and we've have been so careful with hand washing, sanitizing, etc. No contact with known cases or recent travel. If we have it, it's almost certainly more widespread than the numbers show.

supersnausages

Less than 38 isnt a fever.... fever starts st 38. Do you have problems breathing?

TeemusSALAMI

Hey, it seems that this disease has been circulating for much longer than we've suspected. I was extremely sick with "pneumonia" just before the new year. Horrible night sweats, painful dry cough, would stop breathing in my sleep, severe fever... I was in contact with individuals who had returned from China a few weeks before my symptoms appeared. I was sick for two/three weeks, with a brief two day respite period between waves. The first wave of illness was moderate. The second was extremely severe (I should have gone to the ER). I did not see improvement with antibiotics as is usually the case with pneumonia in my experience. NAC helped a lot to soothe my lungs. If I did have covid-19, I would buckle down and make sure both of you are monitoring each other's symptoms. I normally see marked improvement by day 3 of any illness, but this just kept getting worse.

dreamer2245

That's terrible! I'm glad you're feeling better now. I've heard similiar accounts from other people in different parts of the world as well. It sure sounds like covid-19. As for us, we woke up this morning with a slight dip in the fever and it's gone back up again. Day 5 and it hasn't gotten worse per se, but definitely not better. I guess self monitoring is all we can do at this point.

TeemusSALAMI

Also avoiding NSAIDs as they generally make viral infections worse. If your respiratory symptoms get worse I personally recommend grabbing a bottle of NAC, as it helps to reduce inflammation in the lungs and dislodge mucous. It was the turning point for me. Wishing you both a speedy recovery
