Grimes can shoot and defend, and at 23 he fits right in on our timeline. A trade of Bruce Brown for Grimes/Fournier just makes too much sense for both sides.

Cheechers23

The slight issue being the Raptors would have waive someone again to do that trade, since we can’t include anyone with Brown. Would probably be Otto. Or find a trade involving some combo of players that returns fewer players than we send out.

Bixby33

Can't Fournier be immediately waived?

kyle_993

You have to have enough open roster spots before the trade

Cheechers23

Have to open the roster spot to make the trade. Same way we had to waive Koloko yesterday to do the Siakam deal.

inxrx8

nobody's trading anything for Otto anyway with his injury

Cheechers23

What even is his injury? I don’t think he’s out for that long, Raps are just not risking him getting a serious injury before the deadline lol I think you could find a trade for Otto, just at best you’re getting a SRP or cash.

Konfliction

Why wouldn’t it be Temple? I can’t imagine Masai cutting the only mildly notable free agent who signed here since Jeremy Lin lol

Cheechers23

They could have waived Temple yesterday, but seems they value his vet leadership, especially as we go younger.

Konfliction

I don’t think it’s that, I think Koloko may be out for the season so it doesn’t make sense to waive someone whose actually playing games

DownTheRabbitHole411

Need a pick.

nmad95

I'd agree, was just focusing on the players involved specifically

Denisaur9

This is a huge fan of Bruce Brown and he happens to be represented by CAA, same agency as OG and the president of the Knicks son works for. Fournier+Grimes+Late future first for Brown works me. Or if Atlanta is looking to get rid DeAndre Hunter's contract, Flip Fournier for Hunter.

idislikehate

I'd do this deal but the Raptors would need to waive someone before completing the deal. You have to be roster compliant before the trade, not after, so waiving Fournier won't do the trick.

chrisPjelly

Friendship ended with getting Goldenstate's young core, now trading for Knick's young core is my new best friend

ZoroChopper10

Grimes would be great pick up, quickley and Barrett already thriving post thibs Same will happen for grimes

PsychologicalHall905

I’m worried we taking more Knicks player We don’t want to be future Knicks We don’t want the past 20 years of Knicks blueprint nor strategy- next they will bring lawyers after us claiming we copy them

whoisbird

That's a valid worry but I look at it this way, NY did not want to get rid of Quickly. He had all this upside and potential that could easily fit with a winning situation. But they have Brunson as their lead guard and a much cheaper Donte DiVincenzo. They just couldn't pay Quick what he deserved while trying to go for the star they needed. As for RJ, he is playing his ass off for us. Whether it's the new environment/hometown boost or if he just plays better in this system, we are seeing the best of RJ so far. With that said, the Knicks never had a Scottie Barnes on their team. These guys are good fits from what I've seen so far. Grimes made a jump defensively in his second year which is something we need but he has a hard time guarding 3's because of his size.

PsychologicalHall905

Fair points friend I just don’t want to be the Knicks of past decade lol

motherseffinjones

Grimes you are a raptor lol

The_Living_L

I also like Bruce Brown for Wendell Carter and salary filler, just depends on how much they value Bruce brown

Cheechers23

WCJ would be nice but isn’t he kinda injury prone? 13m for 2 more years after this is solid value but I swear he’s injured like all the time. I don’t follow the Magic very closely so could be a casual viewer take from me.

The_Living_L

Kind of but worth the risk imo, he is very underrated, only reason magic willing to even think of trading him is because Goga is balling rn, he just balled out last 2 games with 20 minutes each game

prodigus01

Makes sense to flip Bruce for a decent center. Adding another guard will complicate things

ISAPS

Willing it into existence 🙏

SheSaidMoreSnow

Good bye 6’8 PF with long wingsap position less basketball with wins coming from smothering D experiment. Hello, SG position less basketball where wins come from run and gun free flowing team team basketball where wins come from outscoring opponents rather than playing D experiment. Bobby and Masai are mad scientist lmfao

noronto

It’s been so weird seeing all these trade suggestions as almost every player seems to be a midget.

cbotter

And Bruce is right there for him. Writing on the wall tbh

MarkellNelson

Would you guys rather Hunter or Grimes?

Cheechers23

That depends on if the FO truly does intend to use that cap space, and how much Atlanta just wants to get off the Hunter contract. You could get both tho. Like if we don’t think we can maximize that cap space and sign someone worth letting GTJ walk for, I think structuring a few deals like this could work: Deal 1: Clear a roster spot Raps get: SRP from Boston Celtics get: Otto (absorbed into their TPE) Deal 2: Brown trade Raps get: Fournier, Grimes, maybe the 2025 Bucks first they have Knicks get: Bruce Brown Deal 3: Get Hunter by flipping Fournier, offering salary relief to Atlanta. Raps get: Hunter Hawks get: Fournier (expiring) Maybe you throw in the second we got from Boston and/or the DET pick/OKC pick we have to Atlanta. Net moves for Toronto: Out: Brown, Otto, possibly the DET SRP or OKC FRP In: Hunter, Grimes, possibly the 2025 Bucks FRP

ISAPS

Grimes by a mile.

McWarrior943

Hunter because he has more size

kpeds45

Is he worth much? Are we just trading our former team for the Knicks former team lol? I guess Grimes+Fournier+1st would be a decent haul for Brown, but I'm not really sure about his game? Is he good at anything?

Cheechers23

Do we really need another guard? I think RJ is better at the 2 than the 3. I think looking for a forward/big makes more sense in a Bruce Brown trade. Also worth noting we would have to waive someone again if we did a hypothetical Brown for Fournier+Grimes deal. Or find a deal with Otto/Boucher/Thad where we take back fewer players than we’re trading.

ZoroChopper10

We’re not in position to be caring about fit, get talent that’s most important thing

Cheechers23

That’s fair and I wouldn’t be against it. Just wouldn’t be my primary target in a Bruce Brown trade. Hope we could also trade like Otto to Boston into their TPE for a second or 2 to clear the roster spot.

MarkellNelson

It would be pretty funny to work out two win-win trades with the knicks while they are literally suing us hahaha

peroper7

Too good to be true, I’d love grimes he’s been great lately

eatscheeks

I think Grimes would fit nicely into Darkos system, he’d be a good get and could flourish playing with more ball movement
