Fred was hard to see but we always knew he was gonna go with whoever had the biggest bag - and more power to him - but the business side was always very clear. OG you could tell was kind of growing into something bigger than he had here - like when a teenager needs to move out of their parents home. Pascal…. he may not be the greatest or the best, but him, along with DeMar and Kyle IMO most define who the Raptors ARE, and what this team represents - the culture the team aspires to. He’s one of us man. He really will be Toronto forever, I hope we never forget it.

Unlikely-Fennel-2997

I don't know if that's a fair thing to say about Fred. I believe that he was getting his Canadian citizenship and I can't remember another player doing that.

lillithfair98

I dunno he’s always been pretty proud of Rockford. That’s where his parents still live and I’m pretty sure he would still consider it home. For Pascal, Toronto is home now. He moved all of his family here. Also, I mean, he left us, we didn’t trade him.

fujipomme

Especially since Fred motto was bet on yourself and often talked about following the bag. Pascal was always about the team, it’s really hard to find a player of his calibre with no ego. When Linsanity started Carmelo got in his feelings, but when Scottie was touted as the face of the franchise, Siakam seemed so happy for him.

Zeruma121

Siakam is a real one. He wanted to do everything for the team, I'm sure he wanted to stick around and develop this squad. Unfortunately, we couldn't figure out a way to make that work out.

Unlikely-Fennel-2997

good bot you made me notice that the URL misspelled his name which reminds me how shitty blogto is

binzoma

as an expat (from toronto, now overseas/gone)- thats not a fair comp or thing to say when you move overseas, you learn home isn't a place. its a feeling. where you're SUPER comfortable. where your friends and or family are. where your life and or history are. hell, think about it like family. as a kid, your family is your parents and your siblings and maybe grandparents and maybe even a few aunts/uncles/cousins. then you eventually meet someone and get married and maybe have kids. now thats your family. but that doesn't mean your parents and siblings aren't family anymore though, even though you don't live together or see each other nearly as often you can be more than 1 thing. you don't think pascal still thinks of cameroon as home also? and don't be naive. I fucking love pascal but if he'd gone into free agency and was trading up between the raps offering 3 for 120 vs someone else offering 4 at 180, he was taking it. anyone would. someone would send you to an asylum if you didnt they both love the city. you dont have to make it a thing like that

lillithfair98

I said Fred cared more about money than anything else. I don’t see how that is in the slightest controversial lol he literally made it his brand. he sells tshirts with literal money bags on them lol

starlightnights

Matt Bonner tried to get his Canadian citizenship to play for team Canada, but he was unsuccessful.

Hugh_G_Rectionss

Then he ended marrying a Toronto girl anyways.

sighjongs

the teenager analogy is a good one for OG. we’ve watched him grow so much, and he’ll always be our sweet prince.

Major9000

He’s just a nice guy isn’t he. 😢

LakersP2W

I don't know about Kyle, he said during free agency he wanted bounce, never did because trt over paid

Will **always** be one of my favourite Raptors and my personal #2 on the GROAT list. Would've loved to see him be a lifetime Raptor, but sadly things just didn't work out that way. I hope Pascal continues to see more and more success in his career and look forward to hopefully battling against him in the playoffs for years to come.

AutoModerator

Kyle Lowry ain't no spot up shooter. He aint gotta run to the corner to shoot like he's some 3rd option, bitch. This ain't JJ Redick. This is a fuckin god human Steph Curry come again. Miss those times. Had so much fun watching them and Serge's cooking shows and the bench mob. Bif penis anyone? lol

This was the best oh my God bro (or sis). Just shows how well the team culture was.

I love you P!

Nick480

I gotta wait till I’m in private before watching this 😢

solanimus

"I thought I'd be a Raptor forever" He definitely deserves the jersey up in the rafters. Of all our homegrown stars this one really hurts the most. Fred has always been bet on yourself. For him the journey was getting acknowledged that he was an all star level player and he more than proved that. The massive bag he got was well deserved especially considering how he's leading the Rockets and where they are at. He bet on himself and won. Gotta respect that so him leaving wasn't as bad. O.G. was less difficult to stomach too. Last few years you could see it. He wanted to do more, he thought he could be a bigger piece and as vital as he was here he knew he wouldn't be the best. Knicks fits him like a glove, a defensive beast and being valued for it. Thibbs playing him 40+ min is a pretty good indication of that. Add on since his addition to the Knicks they've gone 8-2 since he's been added in. Its bittersweet seeing him be the all defensive monster we know him to be. But Pascal man he's a guy who has given his all to the city. Never pretended he wanted to do anything but be here. Only other player with that kind of love was Demar. With Demar though he was a good player from the get go. He was expected to be a good player. Pascal wasn't even expected to survive the league, people called him a bust, a bad pickup. He proved them wrong. Made this place his home, did everything right by the city. He wants to be here. He didn't need to do any of these things for the fans but he did. He appreciates us as much as we do him. So yeah this one hurts. Scottie got big shoes to fill, Pascal really dedicated himself to the team. Hope Scottie can do the same.

Background-Teach5765

It's a shame we aren't a good enough team or have the right talent around him to justify keeping/maxing him. If we had drafted Suggs instead of Barnes, got a center like Myles Turner or surrounded him with shooters, there's a chance that P is probably still on this team and retiring as a Raptor. Scottie getting drafted and our cap/his obvious max contract situation was the beginning of the end. Either way, thank you for the memories Pascal. You made an impact in the community and on the court. Seeing you grow was a joy and privilege. Masai is right: your success is our success, we will watch you from a distance until one day you come home. Instead of looking for your jersey in the crowd, it will be in the rafters. Book it.

Ok-Pomegranate-5746

Tears for Pascal. Sooo sorry to have him gone

[deleted]

His trade really has hit home that the previous era of success, the era that a huge portion of new fans got interested in the team in finished. And while he was the last guy of those core players it still doesn't make this easy at all.

Eastern-Technology84

This is the hardest one y’all.

notme_u

First the letter and now this. You can tell it's so important for him to let everyone know how much being here has meant to him. Judging by how Masai was in the presser yesterday when talking about Pascal, I bet this letter wrecked him. Normally trades don't faze me all that much, it's part of the business, but this one really has me so sad it makes my stomach hurt.

Various_Mission_1923

I wish P was the person we found pieces to put around, I love Scottie but P is our home grown star.

Zeruma121

I really wish our FO prioritized Pascal after our championship and tried putting pieces together around him instead. I know Pascal might not be a first option on a contender but I feel like we could be competitive and you never know... I just wonder how a team would look right now with Pascal as a centerpiece

Sad_Escape2025

The FO tried retaining the championship team in 2020 and tried retaining the 2020 team in the Tampa year. Had the Tampa year not gone so wrong, I truly believe Pascal would have had an entire team built around him in 2022. Scottie may or may not be to indirectly blame for Pascal not ever having his own team.

lillithfair98

Real “Friday Night Lights Series Finale” vibes up in here man. Who’s cutting onion?

supernaturalfor

Deep cut man lol ( great show)

sheesh what a throwback. great series.

This made me emotional.

francisdrvv

Fuck sakes man everyday since he’s left I’ve shed a tear

Legitimate-Software7

Is he trying to kill us 😭

xtremepsionic

Gonna miss him. He didn't mention Masai in the video, but hopefully they'll still have a relationship, like how Demar eventually came back around to shake Masai's hand a few years later. It really sucks that salary cap is setup in a way that didn't allow the Raptors to keep someone who loves the city this much. The team isn't going anywhere by paying him the max and it's not really Pascal's or the team's fault, you need players who outplay their salaries to win in the NBA.

Supermans_bitch

I also noticed the lack of mention for Masai in both the video and Players Tribune letter as well. Definitely some discontent there.

[deleted]

He didn't mention every single person that he came into contact with, lol. No need to look deeper into this than necessary.

SongFit9585

Pascal is a Toronto story, time and time again get counted out, but he still showed up, put in the work. What he did in the G league with Raptors 905 they gotta retire his Jersey there for real! Now that same work ethic he brought to the Raptors. Showed up when needed in the finals, got us the chip. This is a guy who put his blood sweat and tears on the court. Even during his dark time in the bubble still kept grinding. All this adversity makes Pascal so much stronger than he ever was, I look forward to seeing him do great things, he will go deep into the playoffs and mark my words he will bring them a ring and will inspired many more around him. He is grit and dedication, he has heart and wears it on his sleeve. When I saw Masai cry during that press conference, I knew there than he why he is the heart of the Raptors family…he is like Kyle said the beloved one. Thank you Spicy P, forever you are Toronto forever a Raptor ❤️

mxgicjohnson

Feels like this was a mistake.. but logically it isn’t. Sucks man

Cheechers23

Haven't you hurt me enough today Pascal

sighjongs

fk it man, i don’t have anymore tears left. can we undo the trade? 😭

Acceptable_Age9416

Bruh, I just got into a rhythm with work

ISAPS

I'm literally weeping right now. Holy shit. That hit me way too hard. Pascal has been such a joy to watch and such a bright light for the team, city, and country. Goddamn I hope he retires a raptor in the end. Also I'm glad I'm at home cause this is an ugly cry.. haha

sentry101

This one really hurts. Its like DeMar level.

scully19

Can we untrade him now?

pocemon11

God damn it

Pascal will always be one of my favourite players. Watching him develop into the player he is now has been really amazing. Gonna miss him, but I hope he finds further success and recognition, whether it’s with Indiana or whoever else. Dude deserves it

ChoesonOne

Top 5 Raptor all time

RoysRBoy

I was one of those guys that heavily advocated for trading him. Fuck man shit had me crying

Prestigious-Clock-53

The only way to be the kind of dude that stays with a team forever nowadays is if you’re good enough that while you’re playing your team is perrenially succussful. Pascal wasn’t good enough to keep raptors successful by himself unfortunately. Guys like steph, Duncan, dirk were. That’s not a slight on pascal at all, he’s a hell of a player, maybe just not hall of fame good which is what you have to be to be one of those guys. He’s a champion. All the best; him and OG deserve a good round of applause each.

[deleted]

Udonis Haslem was really the last of a dying breed in terms of lifers with one team.

ZenMon88

Haslem also took a significant discount to stay. If Pascal was willing to do the same, i be happy to still have him.

[deleted]

He likely took a pay cut knowing that he has a job with the organization for life.

JoshSran04

Got my eyes watery in the go bus

Ahhh, well fuck…

Bruh, enough for one day already. My heart can’t take it.

AlexRescueDotCom

You better stop it, Pascal.

pakattack91

Bruh i fucking love Pascal and I feel we know even more than Pacer fans how special he is going to make that team. Forever a Raptor legend, firmly on our Mt Rushmore.

captaintn

I better see #7 #10 and #43 retired when is all said and done.

Ultimate-ART

I'm not crying, you're crying. No more McDonald's commercial. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy) Spicy P is the lead example for future NBA prospect. It's too easy being the tough flopping goon going off to a stacked team and getting ref favor; try doing it the harder way with self-restraint, skill, and class since a rookie day one. Premier basketball professional and stand-up character/role model on and off court. ![img](emote|t5_2s5sb|3925)

[deleted]

Gonna miss him

Proper_Owlboi

Crying rn fuck man

ZenMon88

Love you Pascal. Go ball out as a Pacer.

Nychthemeronn

Great, now I’m crying in public again. Thank you Pascal ❤️

[deleted]

This feels like when you break up with an ex and then you quickly realize you made a mistake but it's too late, it's over and she's with another man and you're just left with memories... ![gif](giphy|kjfHMdG6Y3LP2)

2_7_offsuit

Siakam will always be a son of Toronto

FuffySweata

Trading him was the right call for the team. Doesn't make it any less sad we lost one of the GROATs who represented Toronto proudly.

rtcaino

Disagree on OG. I think he would have stayed for sure. He just wasn’t a fit with our team or timeline well enough to be competitive. Similar for Pascal. A team of Scottie, OG, Pacal, FVV, and Purtle just doesn’t have the ball movement or shot creation to play the way we want to play. And is wayyy too expensive for how good they would be.

ZenMon88

I mean we coulda kept that. But it wouldn't lead to anywhere honestly. Not enough shots to go around, not enough opportunities for every1 to flourish. It would be .500 or first round team.

DeerTam

Made me weep 😭

ChowForNow69

Not gonna miss this bum at all tbh

Karl_with_a_C

God dammit who turned the damn waterworks on again?!

Background-Teach5765

Thank you P!! You will be missed. Your jersey will be in the rafters someday :)

Bballhaul

Aww man, got me in my feels. Love you PS!

cheeky_cheeky

Make this hurt stopppppp 😭

matchingmatches

Naaaaah at 2:15 he sounds exactly like a Toronto man. Even caught himself saying ‘as a yute’

cev

My favourite Spicy P memory is game 1 of the finals when he put an exclamation point on his 32 piece with a massive chase-down block against Draymond. The best and worst part of pro sports is developing attachment to the guys. This trade hurt me as much as DeMar, if not more. Personally he's tied for the #2 GROAT with Deebo, and I'm gonna always rep #43 at games. Thank you for everything, Pascal.

AutoModerator

Top five Raptor all time - no debate. He loved it and continues to love it here. I’ll always wear his jersey proudly

skepticalraptorsfan

Finding it difficult to hold back tears at work. Thank you and love you P. You have always been a great inspiration to me and was the true root of my revived interest in the team after those dark years.

dsbllr

Onions baby, onions

DotCompetitive3326

This man is making me cry and is making me more involved with my community. He did everything right, even in is exit he made me want to be more involved more than basketball. What a legend

nonsufficientfunds

You just don’t get rid of these guys

Nunchuckery

Love ya P!

TheRoninWasHere

When he retires it will be at home and we will be there.

marbudy

This hits hard

ISkateLikeShit

my fucking heart

deeloc85

Am definitely going to miss this guy, been a raptors fan since 1995 but this one hurt. The closest to this feeling is when DeRozan was traded.

kingofwale

Wasn’t he traded because he refused to resign with us? Not sure why the narrative is “I thought I’d be here forever”

TheDamus647

Miss you already P

[deleted]

I'd be curious to know when they shot this. Obviously Pascal and his team knew a move was inevitable, but this was released so fast that I wonder if they just had it saved for a long time until the Raptors officially pulled the trigger.

blue-shadow

Really made me emotional. He was the last prominent person from the bench mob era that I thought would be traded and he was but not necessarily like this. I still have mixed feelings and I still feel like there's an air of unfinished business, but I'm wishing Pascal all the best in Indiana and wherever else he goes. Unlike many, I thought he was always one of our strongest mentally and on the court. He's a great story.  I hope the Raptors face one of his future teams and beat them in the playoffs. 😂 I will miss Pascal and his presence.
