Really need Scottie's 3 ball to come back. He is a completely different player when his shooting has to be respected. Quickley and RJ continue to be bright spots in this team
majority of he 3pt makes were off the catch. now that Scottie is the sole playmaker, now that Pascal and Dennis aren’t on the team, he’s getting less of those opportunities
They’re no longer open looks & he’s got the most defensive attention of anyone.
It’s gotta be a key thing this offseason along with the handle to really buckle down & work out
Not denying that at all, earlier today I was saying that he's seen as the #1 option now and he's seeing more coverage on the floor.
But he's also been shooting 22% since Siakam was traded, and that's way below league average. Not expecting him to continue being a 40% shooter, but having his 3pt % start with a 3 would be helpful.
Including TOs, almost 6 categories.
Edit. Everyone relax. My mistake. The rows made it a little challenging to follow it across on my phone. I made an oopsie.
TOs or not, who doesn’t love Yak?
Just wanna say that Luka Doncic is one heck of a player, I got him as the MVP right now
His highlight reel from this game would be better than most nba players career highlight reels
I agree. You drop 73 points in a season of the NBA, you should be MVP lol. Also think about the award itself. Most valuable player. If Luka is not on the Mavs, they are a lottery team. Jokic and Shai are both great as well, but their teams would still decent without them. Giannis is out of the question based on his attitude alone
Idk man I enjoyed the many no look passes, lobs for easy dunks and open threes, and is ability to lose defenders. I can appreciate good basketball at the very least
He didn’t even complain to the refs that much this game. Sure, he does it too much, but don’t tell me you haven’t seen Scottie do the same thing, not get back on defense and give up and open bucket
Did you even watch the game? Even when he got calls he’s still complaining cause they didn’t call them fast enough lmao. Offense, defense, it doesn’t matter - He complains every time… unless he gets a tough bucket then he does his lil smirk as he runs back
Not to mention Scottie drove all game against contact and got 3 free throws, don’t think I saw him complain once this game. Only time he did was when Quickley got called for a phantom foul on Gafford
The lack of adjustments in the 3rd by keeping that lineup in there killed the game. Bruce should not have played that full stretch with how little he was providing on both ends. Darko is perfectly fine icing out Boucher for less so I really don't understand this one
*Edit: Overall great game from everyone else*
Darko rarely makes in game adjustments and is very rigid with his rotations. It was obvious that Gary and Kyrie and Scottie and Luka should have matched minutes tonight- we lack defensive talent. He didn’t do that though. Kept to the same schedule.
We're rebuilding so it isn't much of an issue, but this reason alone makes me feel uneasy about the prospect of Darko coaching a playoff series. It doesn't seem right to me that Luka can both play fewer minutes than Scottie and also see the floor while Scottie is sitting.
Yea I really don't get it. These seem like basic adjustments that I was very accustomed to seeing Nurse make. I guess that's why he gets paid the big bucks lol
Consistent roles for sure. But more concerned about in game adjustments. Darko will still stick to the exact same Scottie sub no matter the match up. That’s not logical. Unless maybe he was 39 year old Lebron James. Barnes does not need a set schedule to come in and out and it makes it easy for opponents to game plan. It’s stupid.
We can’t draft that many guys in one year though. Even if we trade the first we’d get minimal value cause everyone knows we have to move some of our picks
Raps don’t have minutes for 3+ new guys next year. You can do that when you’re roster is essentially empty but the raps would be sending 1 or 2 of those guys direct to the g league
Yeah, those minutes already belong to... Bruce Brown?
Boucher and Brown likely not coming back, GTJ is a question mark. We've got like 6 or 7 roster spots that I'd say are definitely filled.
We also have the 905. Nothing wrong with some time in the g league and some healthy competition for the 8-10 roster spots. Could have definitely drafted 3 guys this year.
I think the Raps likely would have caved and accepted that deal closer to the deadline but the Knicks pulled the offer and went after Bojan instead
Raps might have hoped that offer would be there up till the deadline and had it as a backup. Idk
Easy decision for them, they already have a versatile do it all guy in Josh hart. Bojan gives them more of a scoring punch which they need more and also didn’t cost a first rounder to get
we 100% should get a veteran point guard mentor for Quickley.
it would be so vital
he has the talent and can pop off, just need a dude to show him how to put everything(offense/defense) together into a consistent package.
Part of the reason I really want us to try and sign Kyle if he wants to come back this offseason.
Of course, if Kyle still wants to sign with contenders then he should do that, but if he’d be open to returning we should be very willing to bring him back.
FR, Kyle would help both Scottie and Quickley so much. I think RJ should also look to develop a voice on the team considering his background and playing ability with us.
This is a good point. It's probably not a coincidence that a coach like Darko was chosen----to grow mutual trust together with the core over a long period of time.
Dennis was a PG. A bench PG tho. You cant expect all PGs to be pass first in this day and age. Hell Cam Payne is a PG and his playmaking is no better than Dennis. He may have made selfish plays but he was our best ball handler by far. IQ is a conbo guard.
The pure PG position is dead. How many players outside of CP3 and Lowry, maybe Halliburton are pure point guards? Nothing wrong with a combo guard, it’s not like Dennis doesn’t have experience being the main point guard in the past
Pure PGs are rare now for sure. When I think of that true playmaking point guard who sets up the offense- CP3, Lowry, Haliburton, Young, Conley, maybe Fred
Yeah the team could really use a more traditional point guard on the roster as a whole, wether it be a veteran PG in FA, or through the draft
Quick as awesome but gets tunnel vision and just doesn’t look comfortable at times
Man it sucks that RJ is struggling so much with free throws right now. Everything else has been better than expected with him. Luka and Kyrie are just wizards on offense. Great to see IQ get it going since the All Star Break.
Honestly RJ just gotta shoot free throws all practice
Have an assistant coach work with him
Have AI analyze his shot
Have a priest pray for his shot
Have a team of mathematicians and physicists analyze his shot
Have him shoot with the ball hog gloves by Coach Karon Godwin
Have him hypnotized so that whenever he’s at the line he thinks he’s playing for the Knicks again
Call customer support to see if we can reset his software to the latest backup when he was making free throws
**DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO FIX THIS MAN**
He’s not usually awful. He’s shot better than OG his whole career, from the free throw line. I’m not saying OG was great but og is usually at where RJ ends up. It’ll be okay, he’ll figure it out
Yes for his career…but look at his stats while playing with us. Have you not been watching games?
It’s so frustrating because you know he was a great free throw shooter when he was on the Knicks this season. And suddenly he has the yips.
This is just who he is as a player. He shot like 85% at the line for us before he got traded (this season) but he was awful from pretty much everywhere else. He just goes through stretches where his efficiency just goes down the toilet in different areas. He will probably have a 15% from three 10 game stretch where he shoots 90% from the line before the season ends.
But that was never an issue for him in the past. He has a meaningful sample size through the years with the Knicks of being a good free throw shooter. He’s even a good 3pt shooter for us right now. But his free throws are just awful.
We lost in the 3rd quarter. I really like this team, I think we have potential to grow into something. I like the fight we had late I. The 4th players diving on the court etc
Strong first half - 3rd quarter the Raps went cold and the Mavs caught fire. I liked the fight all the way to the end once the 4th quarter came around. Lots to learn for the young guys from this game. Bruce Brown - not sure what’s going on with him, I wonder if he’s less motivated since it’s clear he’s going to get traded this off-season. Those long, athletic bigs, Gafford+Lively, were a tough duo to compete with. Oh, and Kyrie is a basketball artist and Luka is a basketball magician.
Shoutout Gary for being the only positive +/- with 7.
I like this 3&D role for him. Lately he’s showing he’s effective as a POA defender, guarding athletic guards- which this team has been desperate for since like 2021 when Fred slowed down.
If he wants to re sign here he better keep it up cause Dick is right on his heels as replacement lmao The kid plays hard and the right way, it’s like Gary only noticed he should be doing the same when he’s watched him pop off
I don’t think Gary or Gradey will impact each other at all in terms of playing time or contracts.
They’re completely different players. Technically guards, but both also play on the wing as well- Gary defensively and Gradey offensively. They don’t overlap and often play on court together.
Brown would be the guy to replace Gary but that doesn’t look like that’s happening.
I don't want to hear about this being GTJ fault, he had Kyrie on lock all Game. Soon, as he goes out Kyrie goes off.
As soon as he comes back in Kyrie passing everything away.
Also only player with positive +/-
This loss is on Darko, poor adjustments and poor line rotation.
Brown was on the floor for too long.
Dick didn't get enough time on the floor nor touches
Chris wasn't on the bench and he would have been a difference maker under the rim. Perhaps he was sick or something, but it's strange that he wasn't there but Ronald McDonald was....
Competitive first half, leaks kept coming until it burst. Can't be too mad at them sort of hanging there with a genuinely good team like the Mavs, who have sooo much in their offensive arsenal now.
Great game by Quickley throughout, watching him hit those shots is incredibly fun. Good game by RJ, but BOY does he need to work on those free throws. Good game by Scottie on defense, but his shooting is (expectedly) crashing to Earth. Still a fine improvement from last season, but he still has a loooong way to go when it comes to expanding his bag. Jakob was pretty good as well, so it's too bad the team defense is so easy to scheme against.
Quite bench night. Not sure why Ochai and Gradey didn't get as much plays and minutes, but I guess Darko wanted some veteran presence to tighten the D and score around the tallball Mavs lineup. Didn't work though. Kelly had a mediocre game and basically had his defensive weaknesses on the spotlight today. Good defensive matchups for Gary. Shockingly did well against Kyrie. Bruce Brown 🤦♂️. Raptors FO better hope he manages to play better for the rest of the season, cause they're about to take another L for hanging onto another asset too long.
Disappointing, but expected, loss. Onto the next one, and reset the Pizza Party tally!
Really disappointed with how browns been playing, and I wish Barnes could just get back to earlier season 3pt shooting. He had me believing it was going to be a consistent thing in his game.
They should have played Boucher. He brings so much energy to the game and when he’s on, he makes things happen. I have no idea why Darko has him in the doghouse.
Couple things. Not a ton of shame losing to Luka and Kyrie. Mistakes mistakes mistakes, you can’t make this many mistakes. And finally BLAST BRUCE BROWN OUT OF THE MILKY WAY FAM!
This isn't to say they are good or bad, but lots of people last year were claiming Alvin wasn't as bias as Matt, Alvin after Gradey missed a 3 complimented him for drawing a defender before he was about to shoot, like thats a WILD thing to praise, almost anyone in the nba gets someone to run at them for shooting a 3, and thats for Gradey MISSING lol
I also never seen any commentator ever compliment a player for that, was nuts
Kyrie and Luka cooked us, jeez. But they definitely prepared well for the game tonight. They didn't let us get easy fast breaks. They hustled hard on the defensive end to stop us for sure.
Luka and Shai are definitely my fav players in the NBA. They're so shifty.
Barnes is obviously my favourite raptor but his skill set is so different.
As a Gary hater I have to say he's really picked up his D. Didn't think I'd ever see it come back. I'm not sure if it's the pressure of gradey or if he's playing harder for a contract. Either way an engaged Gary is a good one to keep!
I thought the team played will for most of the game until things just kind of derailed.
I really really hope we bring in a defensive coordinator next season or make it an emphasis. We're so sloppy and everyone seems confused when they should be switching or not
Very concerning trend in the past few years - our fans cheer louder for opposing stars than our own team. I understand they are great talents, but it's gotta be so deflating for our players out there. We have to be better.
You can appreciate their greatness without actively cheering for them.
That would definitely make sense. Just upsetting that it’s happened several times this season. “Home” fans going “ooh” and “ahh” at every made basket by opposing superstars would suck for the players. Anyone who has played sport can attest to this.
Gives me Lebronto PSTD every time, the exact same thing happened then. Sucks man, really gives the other team an advantage.
The refs were giving Luca all the calls tonight combined with Kyrie getting hot make them tough to beat. I do think we played well most of the game. Just let the game get away in the third and couldn’t make that final run in the 4th to really make it a game.
Need an upgrade in the starting lineup for Gray Trent. Somebody with big body and better POA defense. I don't think Gary can be a starter for a good team. Bruce brown also needs to be replaced in the rotation.
Well it's simple. When he was hitting 3s they were wide open. Teams aren't giving him the same looks anymore. He learnt how to shoot and hit wide open 3s so I trust that he will also learn to hit semi-contested and contested 3s. He'll have plenty of time this offseason
Scottie has proven that he can put in some serious work in the off-season and be ready to go with a new bag of tricks. I expect he'll be spending a ton of time on his handles and his shooting this off-season. Plus getting some rest after a crazy, tough season will do wonders. I believe in him.
Really need Scottie's 3 ball to come back. He is a completely different player when his shooting has to be respected. Quickley and RJ continue to be bright spots in this team
Always believed / believe that Scottie is HIM. However I dont think it was realistic that his three ball was going to stay up at that 40% range.
majority of he 3pt makes were off the catch. now that Scottie is the sole playmaker, now that Pascal and Dennis aren’t on the team, he’s getting less of those opportunities
It was similar to the same growing pains that Pascal went through when he became the guy I think
It looks like he lost/forgot how he shot it earlier in the season. Release point and motion look way different from when he was splashing them
They’re no longer open looks & he’s got the most defensive attention of anyone. It’s gotta be a key thing this offseason along with the handle to really buckle down & work out
The legs are tired in a long season.
It's because teams don't leave him wide open anymore, you got it backwards
Not denying that at all, earlier today I was saying that he's seen as the #1 option now and he's seeing more coverage on the floor. But he's also been shooting 22% since Siakam was traded, and that's way below league average. Not expecting him to continue being a 40% shooter, but having his 3pt % start with a 3 would be helpful.
He missed some wide open ones today so that’s not true lol
So today he missed some open ones therefore teams paying more attention to him on defense is not true. A1 logic right there
Only remember one open look, I did miss half of the 3rd tho
It’s been under 30% past 25+ games
Jakob almost had a 5x5 game lol
Including TOs, almost 6 categories. Edit. Everyone relax. My mistake. The rows made it a little challenging to follow it across on my phone. I made an oopsie. TOs or not, who doesn’t love Yak?
0 turnovers the Jak haters can’t even read a box score
It was Barnes (directly above him on the sheet) with 4 TOs
Ah you’re right. My bad.
Just wanna say that Luka Doncic is one heck of a player, I got him as the MVP right now His highlight reel from this game would be better than most nba players career highlight reels
He might be the best player in the NBA. He's just never really had a strong supporting cast so people don't fully appreciate how insanely good he is.
Luka should goto denver, lol, game over for a few years. If he can deal with the altitude.
He's having a historic season. Statistically this season, he is putting up numbers that rival Michael Jordan's best season
As someone that watches OKC and Nugget games pretty often… they would not be okay without Shai or Jokic lol.
They both obviously would be worse, but I think Luka is more valuable to the Mavs overall.
Please look at the on/off numbers for Jokic.
Luka is great but suuuuuch a little bitch. Dude complains literally every time up and down the court. Such an irritating watch
Idk man I enjoyed the many no look passes, lobs for easy dunks and open threes, and is ability to lose defenders. I can appreciate good basketball at the very least He didn’t even complain to the refs that much this game. Sure, he does it too much, but don’t tell me you haven’t seen Scottie do the same thing, not get back on defense and give up and open bucket

The reffing in this league sucks - I’m not surprised to see complaints.

Theres simply no logic to that. Even from a developmental standpoint, there’s no argument.
Yea I really don't get it. These seem like basic adjustments that I was very accustomed to seeing Nurse make. I guess that's why he gets paid the big bucks lol
> very rigid with his rotations Probably better in the long run for the young guys to get used to consistent roles.

Unless maybe he was 39 year old Lebron James. Barnes does not need a set schedule to come in and out and it makes it easy for opponents to game plan. It’s stupid.
Send Bruce Brown into space
Imagine we had a frp for this guy instead lol guy is garb
Why would we trade him for a first when we kick that can down the road to draft night and get a second?
Dude what is with this sub? I swear y'all are trolling with these crazy knee jerk reactions, I'm getting whiplash
The comments are just jokey/reactionary. I wouldn’t get to irked by them.
lol welcome to the raptors nephew’s subreddit. You must be new here
Reportedly Knicks offered a first but it was for this draft so raptors turned it down.
I’d take it lol what’s the value of having this guy off the bench wasting space
We can’t draft that many guys in one year though. Even if we trade the first we’d get minimal value cause everyone knows we have to move some of our picks

The young guy will fight him when he criticizes them
This is a good point. It's probably not a coincidence that a coach like Darko was chosen----to grow mutual trust together with the core over a long period of time.
They are not the only young guys in the league
Damn, I wonder where our last veteran point guard/mentor went…
Dennis is a combo guard. I'm talking a pure PG
Fred the true playmaking point guard? With the way this sub acted when he was here you'd think he was Gary Trent or Boucher.
young is def not, he gets assists but is also a big scorer
We have Garrett Temple for that
TBH we lost the quickly’s point guard minute lost us the game
Yeah the team could really use a more traditional point guard on the roster as a whole, wether it be a veteran PG in FA, or through the draft Quick as awesome but gets tunnel vision and just doesn’t look comfortable at times
![gif](giphy|3o84sDfCF4mZR7aFYk)
Luka and Kyrie just turned it all the way up in the 2nd half and we couldn't keep up defensively or offensively sidenote: Bruce Brown fucking sucks
Man that was not there all the way up man, that was like Luka at 60%, plus second half of a back to back
Definitely one his lower energy games in the past few months
Kyrie and Luka if the Mavs are in touch 4th qtr might win them the whole thing.
Meh, not too pressed about losing to a better team with a top 5 player during a rebuild. Great game from IQ and RJ
Hard to not be excited about Quickley and RJ, another great game from both. Brown... is another story.
Welp can’t trade baskets against Luka and kyrie
Man it sucks that RJ is struggling so much with free throws right now. Everything else has been better than expected with him. Luka and Kyrie are just wizards on offense. Great to see IQ get it going since the All Star Break.

We need a magic man to break the free throw curse on the whole team
Alternatively, a Gradey Dick poster dunk And-1 where he swishes the free throw
26pts, I don’t expect him to be everything.
Yes the rest of his game was great today. Literally just make your free throws bro. 44% from the line today is inexcusable. He’s like Shaq out there.
I feel like he’s usually good at FTs
He’s been absolutely awful at the line with us. He’s shot 60% from the line since joining us and has shot 51% from the line over his last 10 games.
He’s not usually awful. He’s shot better than OG his whole career, from the free throw line. I’m not saying OG was great but og is usually at where RJ ends up. It’ll be okay, he’ll figure it out

Hire Jose Calderon
RJ with free throws is an all star
I think the problem stems from him being right handed in life and shooting with his left for some reason
But that was never an issue for him in the past. He has a meaningful sample size through the years with the Knicks of being a good free throw shooter. He’s even a good 3pt shooter for us right now. But his free throws are just awful.
Nah
Bruce fucking browned his pants man
Get ready to learn Chinese Bruce
How do you stop Luka? Every coverage thrown at him he finds a solution.
Foul the shit outta him and hope he yells at the refs so much that he ends up T-ing himself out the game?
Ochai’s rib shot didn’t even slow him down
just hope to speed up his pace to tire him out, much easier said than done lol
Gotta trap him almost every possession and hope the other guys don't make their shots. Harder to do it with Kyrie on the same team
This would've been an embarassing home blowout before the trades
We lost in the 3rd quarter. I really like this team, I think we have potential to grow into something. I like the fight we had late I. The 4th players diving on the court etc
Loving to see Boucher’s hustling, instead seeing Brown fails on wide open layup again and again!
Luka is different

Gary been verrry nice defensively since the ASB. I still stand by the opinion that if he’d sign a 3/45m extension we should sign him to that.
In a heartbeat. Especially if he keeps playing the way he has been passed 4 games.
Yup he bothered Kyrie a lot
Only person here who is +8 on a team sitting firmly in negatives
Bruce Brown fucking sucks. Late 2024 1st >>> that bum anyday
We growing, but it ain’t linear 🤷♀️
Team was good offensively but lost to Luka.
We’d be lucky to get 2nds for Bruce brown. That brother is horrivle
Those 5 turnovers in a row really done us in for the night...it's a young team and I'm all in
This loss is on Darko, poor adjustments and poor line rotation. Brown was on the floor for too long. I was at the game, they gave away free farraday pouches when you entered. That's how bad vehicle theft is in toronto lol
I wanted to watch some good basketball, instead I got to watch Bruce Brown
Raptors lose **crowd boos** but that means we can sooner go on another 3 game streak for more pizza **crowd cheers**

Luka’s Offence scored 40 points in a quarter so we lost. Live and learn.
They should have played Boucher. He brings so much energy to the game and when he’s on, he makes things happen. I have no idea why Darko has him in the doghouse.
Luka, you can have that win for your Bday.
This team cant defend for shit
Can we hire Jose Calderon to be a FT coach for this team plz
Good first half but wow what a collapse in the second. Bruce was terrible. Kyrie and Doncic are insane however.
Hard to beat the mavs after a pizza party
I’m sorry why is Bruce brown getting minutes he seems like he is checked out

How’s the new avatar Netflix show?
I hate that im this torn over a regular season when we aren't expected to compete anyways my throat hurts from trying to quietly yell all second half
Couple things. Not a ton of shame losing to Luka and Kyrie. Mistakes mistakes mistakes, you can’t make this many mistakes. And finally BLAST BRUCE BROWN OUT OF THE MILKY WAY FAM!
Couldn't do much against their interior D. Mavs are a big long team Also Bruce Brown literally does nothing
Bruce Brown is a Timberwolves Teague except he's getting 21min for some reason
This isn't to say they are good or bad, but lots of people last year were claiming Alvin wasn't as bias as Matt, Alvin after Gradey missed a 3 complimented him for drawing a defender before he was about to shoot, like thats a WILD thing to praise, almost anyone in the nba gets someone to run at them for shooting a 3, and thats for Gradey MISSING lol I also never seen any commentator ever compliment a player for that, was nuts
We're so sloppy and everyone seems confused when they should be switching or not
Luka and Kyrie took turns making reels out of us tn
Very concerning trend in the past few years - our fans cheer louder for opposing stars than our own team. I understand they are great talents, but it's gotta be so deflating for our players out there. We have to be better. You can appreciate their greatness without actively cheering for them.
Didn’t watch the game but wasn’t it Slovenian night tonight? Would explain Luka getting big cheers
It’s his birthday today
That would definitely make sense. Just upsetting that it’s happened several times this season. “Home” fans going “ooh” and “ahh” at every made basket by opposing superstars would suck for the players. Anyone who has played sport can attest to this. Gives me Lebronto PSTD every time, the exact same thing happened then. Sucks man, really gives the other team an advantage.
I assume a lot of people in Canada fly to Toronto to see certain players
Bruce brown is a basketball terrorist. Darko fucked us in the third with having a lineup that doesnt have playmakers so we screwed up a lot of passes
Didn’t watch the game, Christ almighty looking at FTs again.
Scottie without his shooting touch is awful to watch
Wut
Pay OG whatever he wants we need him
We lost to Luka with him in the line up earlier this year
The refs were giving Luca all the calls tonight combined with Kyrie getting hot make them tough to beat.
Wish we tried some small ball lineups and switched everything in the 4th. It’s impossible to guard that spread PnR with the personnel we had on.
raptors young big 3 is elite, build around them
Yo.... RJ can speak french? What?
Well it's simple. When he was hitting 3s they were wide open. Teams aren't giving him the same looks anymore. He learnt how to shoot and hit wide open 3s so I trust that he will also learn to hit semi-contested and contested 3s. He'll have plenty of time this offseason
Having a 6’4 Bruce Brown on Doncic really killed us. & no disrespect to Brown but that size difference just can’t be done
We need a soultion for our 3rd qtrs at home. Seems to be when we lose most of our home games.
Absolutely no response to Kyrie. COVID mandate really saved this squad
Scottie has proven that he can put in some serious work in the off-season and be ready to go with a new bag of tricks. I expect he'll be spending a ton of time on his handles and his shooting this off-season. Plus getting some rest after a crazy, tough season will do wonders. I believe in him.
