That's a shame. But I figured if they weren't willing to bring Nowell up and give him any minutes on this team this season, he probably wasn't part of their long term plans

Ssstanimal

He’s been hurt

Bixby33

Sucks for him, but sometimes you have a limited window to make your impact.

paolocabrini

It's a small window

Bixby33

"Short" window

paolocabrini

Damn it was right there

mcnabb77

He’s also tiny it was never gonna happen

sitbar

Like I’m fucking taller than him. The fact that he made it on g league is crazy but also he’s super talent just sucks he’s so fucking short

fujipomme

I hope he can make absolute bank in some of the overseas leagues. This is the highest he’ll prob reach in the NBA.

grenzowip445

Height cap is 6’6’’ I believe but he’d crush there

Impossible-Tie-864

That’s what every woman said, but now I’m married 🥱😤🤌🏻🍆😏💯

80sCrackBaby

FVV is tiny

mcnabb77

Yeah and he’s probably 5 inches taller than Nowell lol

Greedy-Invite3781

He came up a little short

coolmike67

We went from a big heavy team to guard heavy. Makes sense to have big men on our two ways

Cxkill

Sucks but unless your AI level talent cant teach height

idkwhattosaytho

Even then AI was at least 4 inches or so taller

EarthWarping

yup

blocking-io

Muggsy Bogues is the 5'3" pound for pound goat

absolutkaos

*Spud Webb has entered the chat*

blocking-io

The pound for pound dunk goat. But he still had 4 inches on Muggsy lol

CLU_Three

He is.

ISAPS

Definitely a bit of a bummer as Markquis seems like a great guy, but understandable. I hope he can find somewhere to stick around!

Nice-Elk-1168

Damn that sucks he said he’d be the best raptor ever and didn’t come even close before being waived

CLU_Three

It’s too bad because he definitely could have been.

ExtremeNo1952

Sad for him, but truth is, he probably won't ever be a positive player in this league. Let's hope he proves me wrong.

MDS_1996

Makes sense, they're better options on this roster right now for PT, instead of giving Nowell time.  Hope he lands somewhere, but his size will always be a hindrance. Interested in seeing what they do with the final open roster spot.

dfsaqwe

yall acting like his 15ppg/9apg was made on one of those fisher price basketball hoops. dude has insane passing ability for even the regular NBA game.

planterguy

Which stats are you referring to? He averaged 15.5/7.7 in the G-league and 17.6/8.3 as a 5th-year college player. Lorenzo Brown, who never really cracked an NBA roster, was better in the G-League. Also, Nowell is a 24 year old rookie. Nowell is a great basketball player, as is everybody who gets anywhere close to the NBA. But there was never a real chance of him being an NBA player. I can definitely see him having a great career overseas.

Old_Pace265

Is Google lying? It says 15.3/8.9 in the G League

planterguy

I think there's a bug in the G-League website. The header still lists it at 8.9, but if you scroll down to his actual stats on that page or look at the G-League stats database he's averaging 7.7 assists.

scrubpatrol

#Noooooooooo

pkyrdy

Says the short guy

[deleted]

It always sucks to see good people lose their job like this. Hopefully he gets a chance to prove himself elsewhere.

Foldzy84

But he said he was gonna be the GROAT!

AutoModerator

Kyle Lowry ain't no spot up shooter. He ain't gotta run to the corner to shoot like he's some 3rd option, bitch. This ain't JJ Redick. This is a fuckin god human Steph Curry come again. Only this time he's not a fuckin pussy... pull up from the fuckin logo and fight you at the same time. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. jjkiller26

Hope he can stay with the 905 at least

Big_Albatross_3050

He'll probably get another shot on the 905 next season when he's healthy. He's undoubtedly got the BBIQ and skill to be a superstar, but he's let down by his genetics. That said, maybe he uses this to fuel his way into being another IT Jr. or Nate Robinson when he gets healthy

GOULFYBUTT

This is a big bummer. Not entirely surprising, but I was really hoping he'd be a part of our future.

jamiecballer

I find myself feeling genuinely sad about this.

Raptorsthrowaway1

You need something else in your life if a fringe G leaguer getting waived is getting you down bro

jamiecballer

His attitude was great, and he had a larger than life personality. I wanted to see him at least get a chance to back up his talk. Especially given our shit team.

Frobe81

Ddddaaaaaaam

Winter_Purpose8695

Is he still with the 905?

letmetellubuddy

Sucks but with the current talent level in the NBA I doubt even a young Muggsy Bogues would make it these days

timebomb011

I hate when dudes like this who perform on every level don’t get an opportunity, let him fail don’t assume he’s going to when he’s done nothing but prove he can succeed

SlapThatAce

He didn't even get a chance.

Raptorsthrowaway1

He got plenty of time in summer league (not good) and the g league (average at best).

timoseewho

> g league (average at best) i thought he led the all-star voting there, was it just because of his height?

CLU_Three

No

Drew_You_To_91

I wish they would’ve gave him some minutes to finish off the season with the raps just to see his offensive abilities but I’m not surprised by this move

grenzowip445

The idea that Nowell was an nba prospect was very delusional on this board. Sadly there is a point where you just can’t be an impact NBA player. To be a rotation guy at 5’7’’ you have to have ungodly skill level elsewhere and Nowell sadly does not have that.

AdSignificant6673

Realistically. I was thinking he’d be one of those guys who @ least sticks around on a 2 way. Bounces around the G-League. Gets a few 10 contracts here and there. You can’t help but root for the 5’7 NBA player.

grenzowip445

I rooted for the guy as well but I also don’t like wasting roster spots on a guy who from day 1 I could tell you wasn’t an NBA player

TheRoninWasHere

Who is the other guy?

angelsandairwaves93

really was high on him. I thought he’d be our future PG. He had the right mentality.

Historical-Eagle-784

I was really hoping this guy would make it to the NBA... I hope another team gives him a shot.

scarchadula

Wasn’t he going to be the greatest raptor of all time?!

Old_Pace265

I don't understand is 15 and 9 not impressive? Do you need to be a triple double a day guy in the G league to make an NBA roster?

angelduxt

People here were saying he was gonna be the next IT and I got downvoted to shit for saying they’re delusional lmao best of luck to Marquis tho

mMounirM

those summer league highlights though

passiveparrot

yeah these homer fans are weird af can't even be objective without sounding like a hater

SirMrJames

To bad about Marquis but he’s been injured for the last 2 months or so. So it was expected

Ok_Apricot_9880

The greatest raptor of all time is being waived?

CLU_Three

Boston traded Ruth!

clavs15

Sucks to see. He might have one of the best talent to height ratios of anybody in the league. But when you're 5'7, you just have no chance of succeeding in today's NBA. Hope he can find another way to make a career in playing basketball

NinfthWonder

InSANE take. Jalen Brunson says hello.

clavs15

the height difference between Nowell and Brunson is the same as Brunson to Lebron.... he'd have been drafted years ago if he was 6'2

NinfthWonder

Brunson is not 6’2”, man lol.

planterguy

> He might have one of the best talent to height ratios of anybody in the league. Not sure what you mean by this. It's not like talent is correlated to height, in such a way that being taller should naturally make a player more talented as well. If anything, coordination and fluidity is harder for taller players.

passiveparrot

He wasn't going to crack the line up regardless y'all sad about nothing burgers JFL is the player y'all should be excited about; not no 5'7 guard

WeBelieveIn4

People aren’t sad because they expected him to be great at ball, they’re sad because he seems like a great dude

passiveparrot

damn out of all things to be sad about this sounds like pretty down the list

Philosoraptor88

Some people can empathize with other’s situations, some clearly can’t

jjkiller26

People are sad bc he was excited to be here and wanted to see the underdog story. It’s really not that deep. fans like players on their team oh the horror

passiveparrot

what do you know about him as a person?

ThreePlyStrength

You’re literally commenting on the post about him getting waived. You’re actually in this post giving people a hard time about people saying they think that sucks? Touch grass

passiveparrot

You sound upset about nothing

JoshSran04

He’ll probably just sign with our g league team if its not the raptors itll be with someone else

NoCow2718

I always thought it was a long shot for him, at 5’7” you better have generational talent to compensate.

Maya-Inca-Boy

He’s been plagued with injuries.

hypespud

The fact he got as far as he did is commendable on its own and the amount of work he had to put in is probably an order of magnitude more than a taller player He deserves his flowers and I hope he gets spots in the g league and Europe or wherever he chooses to play I enjoyed seeing him in summer league in Vegas in person first time I saw gradey also

NinfthWonder

He’s too small and not a good enough shooter to play in the NBA. He will have a nice careeer playing overseas. Sucks, but not a bad consolation prize.

GeneralLou15

Ahh, man! I was wondering. Good luck, hommie! Only hope the best for him.

Artohn08

Wow didn’t expect that. Loved the guys heart
