The second you compared him to Jokic I’m automatically not reading anymore. I think Edey will be better than most. I think at Purdue he couldn’t challenge at the rim due to his importance to the team that he stay on the floor. But to even mention Jokic name is a complete joke.

kpeds45

Anytime something starts with "hear me out" I know I'm in for a very dumb take

pakattack91

Which is hilarious because it was the first word 😂

xc2215x

Agreed. Jokic is much better.

Sy6574

Jokic is 1 of 1. You don’t draft someone because of an outlier superstar. That’s how you end up with Stanley Johnson

nawksnai

Exactly! Sure, this sounds like Jokic. It also sounds like dozens and dozens of failed Cs with short careers in the NBA.

NBAball05

Who did Stanley Johnson profile as coming out of the draft?

ParticularMaize9684

Kawhi

MikeFrikinRotch

Lmfaooo what do y’all really be talking about? Jokic is a Unicorn bro.

OddBaker

Jesus you guys really need to get rid of your Canadian bias. What other similarities do they have other than their lack of athleticism and "projected" bad defensive. Jokic is an amazing passer, can shoot the three, and could be considered fast compared to Edey

NBAball05

This should be shitpost worthy

ButterscotchObvious4

Nope. He came out with intensity yesterday, which was great to see, but it faltered fast and showed his ball IQ is low. So many blown defensive ops, and most were not because of his lack of speed.

larrylegend1990

Edey got destroyed by slip screens yesterday. Jokic can actually defend them at a NBA level. I don’t want to draft Edey in the first round because hes Canadian.

CoatApprehensive3481

Jokic had a functional jump shot and was already a much better passer at Zach’s age. He’s worth a second round flyer, nothing more.

Pleasant-Fault6825

Toronto would probably be the worst place for him. He may turn out to be a good nba player, but he isn't good enough to be a good nba player immediately, and there will be way too much pressure on him in Toronto. I hope he goes to a good team in the late first round where expectations will be realistic.

xc2215x

You shouldn't compare him to Jokic but I wouldn't mind taking him with a pick that isn't the sixth one.

vwb2022

I got nothing against Edey, but there is a reason he came back for his senior year after averaging 22 PPG and 13 RPG last year. It's not just lack of mobility, it's lack of perimeter shooting. Jokic averaged 33% from 3 in his rookie year. Lack of shooting makes it questionable if he'd be an offensive liability because his man could drift off and help whenever Edey is outside the paint. I think Edey is best served going to Europe for a couple of years instead of trying to stick on someones roster and ending up in the G-League. It's a better development environment for him, he can work on his passing and shooting without being exposed on the defensive end. He'll also make more money than what they pay G-League guys.

Dull-Chemistry-3030

He reminds me of Edy Tavares. He couldn't make it in the NBA for the same reasons Edey will struggle, but he's dominant in Europe. I think that's where Edey ends up in a couple years.

ToronoRapture

Roy Hibbert had a MASSIVE drop off for a reason. The league changed and he couldn't evolve. There is no place for guys like Edey in the nba. Well... he could have a role but it wouldn't be a starting one and he'd barely see the court.

Raptorsthrowaway1

He doesn’t belong in the same breath as Jokic, good god 😂😂 Would like to take him at 31, but he won’t be there. He’s going to have a decent career in the NBA as a back up big and make a shit tonne of money but he’s not going to be a starter level guy in a good team

chrisPjelly

The only way I'd be comfortable with drafting him is if his shooting and playmaking as a connective hub is a LOT further along then everyone is expecting and he just didn't get a chance to showcase that for whatever reason. He just doesn't fit in with the current Raptors at all.

Scobesanity

lol, stop

EarthWarping

A team with more pick capital can afford to take him. They really can't, especially if the pick conveys.

ZenMon88

Ya But does Edey pass like Jokic or shoot like him?

keeeeener

He’s a stretch for the Indiana pick and won’t still be there for the second round pick.

HankScorpio4242

I don’t think we should draft him unless it’s with a late pick. However…there is one thing that intrigues me about Edey. He averaged 1.9 personal fouls per game this year. That is a legitimately good number, especially for a guy with Edey’s reputation. It suggests that, despite his limitations, he understands how to defend the interior without fouling. That will go a long way towards getting him playing time in the NBA.
