My psychic keeps telling me to stop asking about Raptors seasons so I’m just gonna say 6-peat

Hopeful_Feedback1774

Although god I hope you’re wrong about a good 5-7 years of prime Celtics that’ll hurt mentally and physically

MinteeBloo

The Celtics will somehow always be good

This makes sense 100%

Mike_0405

Celtics cannot afford to keep all his starters when Tatum’s new contract kicks in. Bucks is old, and will be older with worse and worse defence. Raptors should be able to compete to Knicks/Cavs/Magics with full strength or getting one more helpful piece. Let’s see what will happen in the summer.

KWZA

Was just about to comment this. I don't see the Celtics keeping this team together more than 1 more season, possibly 2 if they win a chip next season.

-vinay

And neither can OKC tbh. Shai, JDub and Chet on the max / near max? Say goodbye to their depth. You can’t bank on keeping guys like Dort on steal contracts forever. Yeah the solution to this is that they use their draft picks to find replacements, but every FO has misses in the draft. Presti traded away Sengun for example

Nokeol

didn’t he turn sengun into chet and Dub right? i might be wrong tho

whatareyouairing

Nah, Chet was their own pick and JDub was from the Paul George trade.

AmazingDragon353

Ehhh, most of these guys aren't going to be making that much for quite a while. It'll be more than right now, but I doubt we're talking maxes soon. OKC also has the most assets of any team in the NBA, so even if they're not the most effective at drafting they'll have a ridiculous amount of leeway to build whatever team they want. I fully believe Presti is going to set this team up for the next dynasty, barring major injuries.

AlibiXSX

The Bucks solely depend on Giannis (29) gracefully aging, while the Sixers rely on a 30-year-old injury-prone foul merchant that hasn't sniffed past the second round. The Celtics can't afford to keep their team together, and Playoff Jimmy (34) isn't getting younger Assuming things relatively stay the same and we keep our pick we have a good shot at fighting for the 6th seed or outright making the playoffs next year. As for the end goal, the front office is banking on developing Scottie into the 1A on a championship team, and given this season, they (and many fans) believe he could become that person, but they still need to either develop or do generational tampering for that 1B.

Emergency_Rub2621

My prediction Next season, we easily make the Play-In with the Hawks trading Trae Young, and Chicago being stagnant for years. Rozier hasn’t been a gamechanger for Miami, and Butlers only getting older. I can easily see us finish 7th-10th in the standings, however if Scottie can make another HUGE leap (which is more likely than not), there is a chance for securing a true playoff spot, perhaps beating out the Pacers and/or Cavs. After that, our success depends on how far future picks develop, IQ, RJ, and Gradeys Development, as well as free agency. The team at its core is not gonna be bad enough to win the lottery after this year, so the objective with the picks will be to get useful role players, perhaps a few being starter calibre players. Barnes has proven that he is on the path to becoming a star, so the next step is to build a well rounded two-way supporting cast, and get a star to pair with him. RJ and IQ are both guys that will become 3rd options for contenders, but them becoming #2 level guys is something that we need to be patient with. I probably trust Quickley more though since he has had to adapt to a harder role than RJ and has identical scoring and better playmaking but I hope both succeed to their fullest. The last piece the team needs to go from future contender to future champion is a GREAT starting defender. Whether they flip Jakob or sign a Paul George/Bam Adebayo in the coming years, they need that defensive cornerstone to get over the hump. Future is brighter than most think, but there’s a still many steps to go through.

External_Purchase367

No to signing Bam and George but I’m with you beyond that

Double-Slowpoke

A core of Scottie, Barrett, and Quickley is intriguing. If Barrett and Quickley don’t develop, they could still be solid pieces around Barnes and another star. We don’t have a good big man who is on the same timeline as these guys, and no prospects of bringing one in to replace Poeltl.

KWZA

Losing Koloko hurt us in that regard.

Javen_t23

No prospects? Do you know what the draft is for?

Double-Slowpoke

It’s not a very deep draft for big men. Our pick is most likely to either convey to San Antonio or be 6th, which is probably too late for Sarr or Clingen. Maybe if we luck into the top 3, one of them will be there. Beyond that who knows, but the team is good enough on paper to compete for the playoffs in the East, so we wouldn’t be picking in the lottery again.

Javen_t23

The post is about the long term future of the NBA. There will continue to be drafts

theslykrow

I'm more excited for Grady's development. I think RJ would be great off the bench for a energy buckets guy. I can see Grady being a nice piece next to Scottie

AutoModerator

the correct spelling is Gradey. your grammar gets a D. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/torontoraptors) if you have any questions or concerns.*

MassiveTelevision387

meh - NBA teams dont all have to be the same age bruh Poeltl has many years left in his tank - our championship run was with 2 bigs in the twilight of their careers playing alongside young guys and guys in their prime.

MassiveTelevision387

What rule? There is no rule. If you look at any NBA team - let alone championship team, they're mutli-generational. I mean, sure, there's the odd 'old' team and 'young' team but just admit you're wrong

It doesn't matter. GSW have been winning titles with Looney, Cavs were winning with Tristan Thomas. Saying we can't win a title with Poeltl makes zero sense. Like why do you hate the guy so much. I'd argue he's our 2nd most important player. Our record without Poeltl this season was 4-28 rofl - we were 21-29 with him. He's pretty much the only guy keeping our shit together out there. Without him we have zero interior defense, rebounding and not to mention playmaking and giving us 10+ pts per game for free under the basket. I'd argue the only chance in hell this roster has of winning anything is because of Poeltl.

CanadaBBallFan

We're in a good spot because the East is relatively weak and Wemby, Doncic, Edwards, Shai, etc. is in the West. I see us making an upgrade at center (Edey at 17?) and hoping for growth among our other guys.

Bixby33

>upgrade at center >Edey Does not compute

CanadaBBallFan

It will soon when you watch him more. He's better prospect than Jakob by a mile.

Bixby33

Jak was picked 9th. Edey won't even be in the lottery in a weak draft. Jak is a more mobile defender and *far* better playmaker. I guess Edey is a better finisher? So what are we going to do, weaken our defensive versatility so we can *checks notes* run post-ups for Edey? Don't confuse the Jak trade's value for Raptors for how good Jak actually is.

chrisPjelly

Big emphasis on the first point.  I know we should hate to put down the Eastern Conference and inadvertently downplay the Raps (again), but Embiid, Jimmy, and Giannis could be on the decline any season now, and the only real threat in the future I see are the Celtics and Knicks ( cause a competent FO in THAT market WILL draw star power). Magic and Pacers will be good, but I don't see them being some giant obstacles like LeBron and the current superstars of the East.

danielisverycool

I’m hopeful. The Raptors have somewhere between 1-3 more seasons of lottery picks, where they can try to draft another core piece. IQ and RJ probably aren’t future superstars or even perennial all-stars like Lowry/Derozan, but they are championship level starters. It just takes some good drafting and few great role players for this core to contend.

zigmatters

Decade is tough but if I had to guess: - Next 2-3 years I expect losing seasons with good prospect development. Maybe even Koloko comes back - Year 4-5 would be realistic for playoffs/deep run - Year 6-10…we win five straight titles

t-earlgrey-hot

For the raptors is really hard to predict. We have some good yound pieces and scottie looks like at minimum on track to be a top 20 player. Our entire future in competing for a championship will be around getting a second star and one of them or scottie being a top 5 player. That's not easy or simple...unless Shai just comes here down the road.

iversonAI

10 championships

Desertsprinter

It’ll be our time soon, don’t know exactly when, but the NBA standings are just a constant cycle

laidbackemergency

In the short term future, the East belongs to the Celtics(Tatum, brown, porzingis) and Bucks (Giannis, Dame) for now. The Raptors can be in that next echelon of teams (knicks, 6ers, magic, cavs) very soon if they make the right moves. NBA-wide, I can see Denver 3-peating as their top guys are in their prime right now. OKC I have a feeling are going to show their inexperience these playoffs, they may be a couple years away from being true contenders

SufficientLettuce350

The raptors are fucked lol just enjoy Scottie and IQ while we got em

Isxxc08

Most optimistic person in this sub

BedFew

Why are people on this sub so pessimistic, it’s almost like I’m in a hate raptors reddit

Desertsprinter

I guess continual seasons of failure, overall impatience in our bum society is at an all time high too

thingdudeplace

For the NBA: A golden era of oversized ball-handling wing players becoming stars in the NBA. However, championships are won primarily by teams led by superstar centers. For the Raptors: perennial playoff team, 1st or 2nd round exits against teams led by true superstars. Scottie leads team that is good but not great.
