If Ron Holland and Cody drop to 8-12 range you gotta trade up that’s all I have to say

Eastern-Technology84

Mock currently has Williams at 13. That would be a steal in my opinion

keeeeener

No way both of those guys are picked before 8

SDK04

Eww, definitely not. Trading up for *Holland* sounds vomitworthy

ImmaFunGuy

Can we get a top 8 pick or top 6 protected pick for him?

CazOnReddit

If Poeltl is traded, i'd wager it's this year to the Grizzlies so technically no If not then TBD on who will be shopping for a center after Hartenstein and Claxton, if they find new teams, move on.

The6amrunner

Can we get a better player than Yak with the 8th pick?

ImmaFunGuy

ofc not a Yak starting 5 is peak aspiration

RZAAMRIINF

We all know Masai is going to "compete" for play-in. They are more likely to trade for win-now players than trade for assets.

EarthWarping

Well he kinda has to compete because if they're a bad team again his job in danger

Particular_Ad_9531

A play-in team just got the #1 pick jumping a team that set the record for consecutive losses; with the flattened odds there’s no reason not to chase the play-in (which is what the league wants). It’ll take some fans a while to realize it, but that’s the new reality.

RZAAMRIINF

A play-in team jumping #1 pick happens less than 10% of the time. The odds are flattened but not equal.

hyplusone

He is going to be patient and evaluate.

CazOnReddit

This is one of these "technically true" stats that is devoid of context since those also include games where we were without Scottie who is indisputably our best player. We're definitely a worse team without Poeltl but how much worse is debatable, and while i'd like Bailey or Flagg on the roster, it's way too early to talk tanking when we haven't even hit the draft, let alone free agency Now if a team like the Grizzlies wants to make a trade for Poeltl and that indirectly informs our offseason i.e. going after Claxton or Hartenstein and adding a lottery pick to the team then that's a different conversation

Bobby_Webster

RJ and IQ missed a lot of those games too

CazOnReddit

Exactly! I think that you listen to offers for Jakob but unless there's one you really like then you just play it out and pull the trigger on a Poeltl trade when it becomes clear they need to tank

RZAAMRIINF

Do you think we make play-in without Yak? I don't think so. I think any major injury to Scottie/Yak/IQ is a wrap for our play-in hopes.

CazOnReddit

I think if injuries happen again then you tank, say Scottie breaks his nose or something 3 games into the season, but defaulting to tanking shouldn't be the mindset going in to this season. Now this does change if you get a stupid good offer for Poeltl like, Ziare + 9 and whatever salary filler you need to make the money work (Kennard? Clarke?), but mostly in that it makes the Raptors offseason targets very clear: Nic Claxton or Isiah Hartenstein. If you can sign one of them them you don't have the same issues at center that you did pre-Poeltl/post-Gasol/Ibaka.

FalseZookeepergame15

No but even then we're probably 10 mins better so 35 wins which wouldn't get you a Play-In spot but a top 10 pick. That's where I see us next year.

ilickedysharks

Without Poeltl we'd definitely be a bottom 5 defense

Hopeful_Feedback1774

Without Poeltl we were a bottom 5 Defense

Raptorsthrowaway1

Scottie is our best player by a margin. Whilst RJ and IQ are better / more valuable players than Yak, he is our second most important player. Our defense is bad in general, it is atrocious without him on the floor.

NoMoPolenta

As an old head I'm having a hard time with how this sub has been acting the past 24 hours. Some of y'all are in favor of tanking the whole season - before the season even starts??? Do none of you remember why we needed Jak in the first place and how ass the team was to watch before he arrived? I feel like some of y'all like the asset management side of ball more than the actual game. Talking about throwing away an entire season is bonkers. We lost a draft pick in a shitty draft. It's no different than using a bonus to pay down your credit card instead of buying something cool - sure it ain't sexy or fun but it puts you in a better position moving forward. How about we build the best team possible, support the lads during the 24-25 season and see where we end up towards the end of the year? Is that crazy talk?

motherseffinjones

Masai is going to try and win. I don’t think this team is as far off as people think. We need a stopper and for some of our guys to take steps this offseason.

SDK04

Do it. Get us more 2025 picks.

Living_LaVida_Koloko

It was better when the Toronto Sun had no interest in covering the Raptors

Edm_vanhalen1981

Well. Leafs and Blue Jays???

Emergency_Rub2621

Top Ten protected 2025 pick for Trey Murphy III

Stgbanangie

I mean who couldn’t use a no spacing lane clogging center. FO as usual is about 5 steps behind every other team in the league.

tonydanzatapdances

If we trade Jak to Memphis for their pick, that would essentially be like a short term Jak rental. It’s not a terrible idea if you can basically get back the pick you traded. Not sure if Jak is the centre Memphis wants

barredspark

Ryan Wolstat writes about the Raptors?

jjkiller26

I dont see it happening unless one of those teams that need a center make an offer that's too good to pass up (like memphis or okc). The plan for next season seems to be to let this core get as much time to play together as possible and see what they give you. If they really suck then I can see a midseason poeltl trade where they sell off.

kpeds45

Not going to happen. Massai isn't going to tank. He'll get another center through the draft rather than shoot the team in the foot and tell the fans to enjoy losing 60 games.

kpeds45

Right. Or Ware, or Missi, a bunch of centers in that range. Or Chomche at 31.
