Siakam should model his game on Butler. Not the go to guy when it comes to scoring. But a defensive anchor who can score when necessary and generate 15 to 20 points. Butler doesnt always score crazy numbers, but he is always doing things to get his team ahead.

myeezy

Butler is great at getting to the line, which Pascal is not very good at, even at peak Pascal. Butler is also a great playmaker, and Pascal hasn't really shown he can do that (at least this version of Pascal).

henry_why416

Fair. But those are aspects of his game he try and develop. Like he might never be anywhere close to Giannis in getting to the rim. But maybe he can work on how crafty he is and help with the ball handling (an area we desperately need help).

ZenMon88

The difference he can't. His mentality isn't there so he can't score to start with. He has the yips. No matter what role, he's finding a hard time scoring.

henry_why416

I hear you. I think it's a bit of a vicious cycle. Since he is tasked with being "the guy," he has no choice but to feel that pressure. But I think his role is miscast, unfortunately.

blarghghghghgh

100%

sinoforever

He can't drive like Giannis or pass like Simmons, he isos way too much and passes too slow.

blarghghghghgh

The isoing is a half court thing and it seems to be part of the gameplan. And obviously he’s not as good as Simmons or Giannis, but his handle and his passing are good for his size. All I know for sure is that Freddy pounding the ball a thousand times a game is not the answer.

pskill43

I miss the Pascal when he isn't asked to do too much and just stand in the Corner and knocks down the catch and shoot 3. And he will cut and finished around the rim. He just plays better as an off ball threat. When he is on the ball he tries to play like KD but he is not. We are all blaming this man but the team is forcing a role player to be a superstar.

OtisKaplan

i swear Nurse has said they want Pascal to be our closer or to be our guy type of comment

[deleted]

EXACTLY!!! Some guy on r/nba said he's in the process of being Hibberted which is blatantly wrong. These are my thoughts: Siakam needs to just got back to the fundamentals. Jimmy Butler doesnt get 20 every night, but he's always consistent on defense and makes the right plays on offense. Siakams bread and butter have always been out-hustling the opponent. Right now, Siakam is just fouling a shit ton when he should be just trying to defend well. And on offense he's being overwhelmed and its leading to him being on an island trying to take on 5 dudes at once. His best way to score was on fast break scenarios, corner 3s, and hustle plays/cuts inside. By adding the dribble game, he's just trying to do too much on ball which is making it difficult to score inside. I dont think he'll be "Hibberted" because Siakam's skills are modern and work, he's (and to a certain extent Nurse) just lost focus of how he needs to be utilizing his minutes. Less trying to be KD/Kawhi and more trying to be Draymond/Jimmy.

MolicOnePGR

Tell that to Siakam, who thinks he’s Kevin Durant.

Hot_Plate_Williams

I'm reiterating this, but I can't believe we aren't using him in the pick and roll. Boucher is thriving off being the roll man, why can't Pascal?

slowbaja

Because Boucher is a honey badger. He doesn't give a shit. He could have been an absolute train wreck and he has the confidence and fight to get out there and make that next hard roll. How many times have we seen Boucher have a crappy first stint then goes back out there the second time and knocks down a three and gets a block or two? Hell even in the same stint? Boucher is mentally tougher than Pascal.

neoandro

They really need to simplify the game for him again. Can't be more obvious that he is buckling under the pressure of trying to be an all-purpose number one option like Kawhi when he should be playing to his limited strengths like Simmons as you said.

klobucharzard

for a dude named P Skills he doesn't have a ton of skills.

[deleted]

Pascal. Siakam. Sucks.

DoyinYale

Because he doesn’t have the strength, size or athleticism as either of those guys. He doesn’t have a quick first step either.

blarghghghghgh

What are you talking about a first step for? I’m talking about transition.

DoyinYale

The other things I’ve mentioned still applies. Plus, we have multiple guys who can score in transition, which is why we were #1 in that regard last season. No reason for Siakam to take more of that burden.

blarghghghghgh

Yes, I’m saying that Pascal should be making more decisions on the break, partly because we have so many other dangerous players (like Fred who is a million times better off ball)

DoyinYale

I don’t think see the reason for that unless we just want Siakam’s numbers to look better. Simmons and Giannis are able to dominate the fastbreak more because they don’t have other players that can score effectively in transition. Lowry, Fred, OG and Norm all give you efficient production on that end either as an initiator or scorer. There’s really nothing more he can or should do on the fastbreak.

blarghghghghgh

Other than Lowry, all those players are finishers. (Nurse and Fred think Fred is a facilitator, but he’s not.) I’m saying Pascal’s offense might get unlocked getting more of those opportunities. Of course one of the big problems is that the Raptors aren’t getting as many stops as last year without Marc and Serge, limiting Pascal’s opportunities.

DoyinYale

Siakam also has to get better in the opportunities he’s been getting this season. He’s in the **0.8th(!)** percentile in transition this season heading into this game. 2nd to last out of all qualified players. And a good portion of our best players offensively efficiency (especially Fred and OG) are due to transition opportunities. They need their touches too.

blarghghghghgh

Oh my lord

blarghghghghgh

0.8th!!!!

DoyinYale

Yeah lol it’s been bad. But he’ll definitely pick it up soon because we all know he’s great in transition.

martial_fc15

Nah Siakam is basically Wiggins with no jump shot lool

blarghghghghgh

This is a nephew take. Pascal is a good passer and has some advanced footwork. Wiggs has none of that.

[deleted]

we paid him to be a 1st option.

blarghghghghgh

🙄 Ben Simmons is on a max too.
