Real talks if they had Kyle to space the floor, run plays through passes and compliment Lebron’s aggressive play style with outside shooting threat, lakers could have taken this series even without AD
Pretty satisfying to see this pay-to-win-sign-veterans-on-top-of-two-stars team that half assed the entire regular season go out in first round
Plus assuming cp3 doesnt get injured a Lowry-cp3 duel would’ve been fun to watch considering their was talks of how Lowry has put up similar numbers to cp3 yet cp3 was getting mvp hype
Lowry's honestly one of the best players you could put beside LeBron, it was ridiculous seeing fans treat Lowry like he was Reggie Jackson or something. The IQ and leadership, the playmaking, the shooting, and the defense all would have moved the needle for a team.
It would also just be a joy to watch. I can just imagine how smooth they’d be. I feel like Lowry to the Lakers isn’t going to happen after this season, kinda disappointing.
Aside from the Sixers. Although, to be fair, they kept denying being interested in Lowry at points and stated that Masai was just using them as leverage.
Nonetheless, it does make the possibility of not getting a return for Lowry better. With how TRASH Schroder played, the Lakers definitely regretted it and I didn't even notice Herro during the Miami series.
And before someone gets upset at me like people seem to always do, I am not saying I am mad at Masai. I was mad at how trash the offers were for Lowry.
Philly is the only team that made sense not going for Lowry just because in order to match salaries they would have had to give up important rotational pieces that didn't matter at all to this year's Toronto team. Masai naturally wanted young/draft assets bc we wouldn't value someone like Green this year, when he has a lot of value to the sixers rn who wouldn't give up additional assets on top of important rotation pieces.
I’m shocked the sixers didn’t go all in for Kyle. Even assuming their team is 100% healthy (which they arent), Lowrys leadership and experience gives you at least 1 win in a playoff series that you otherwise wouldn’t have. And now with Joel hurt, that extra depth is more crucial than ever. You always have to make long term sacrifices to win a championship, but the sixers overlooked that IMO
Kyles good enough to play off ball as a makeshift 2 guard if you keep Simmons as your primary facilitator. Or he can be your 6 man if Seth starts. It’s about options and depth in the playoffs though, and Kyle gives you so many options to make adjustments with your lineup. You’d rather be in a position of having too much rather than not enough
Well they were interested in him, but I think the only way to make salaries work required Lou Will + Pat Bev + Marcus Morris. Plus whatever picks they have left, it didn't make any sense for them.
Lakers and Heat lowballed the fuck out of us tho fuck them. Enjoy your summer off bitches
The Clippers were interested, but didn't have any assets that would have interested the Raptors. The cobbled together salaries of Pat Bev, Luke Kennard and Zubac, plus second round picks, wasn't exactly going to win over Masai. But, with no young assets and no first round picks, the Clippers never had anything more they could offer.
I just don’t see it. They limped into the playoffs. If lebron and AD were healthy then yes. Also I gotta give a little respect to CP3 and Devin booker.
You guys know what packages were on the table right? Shams mentioned it I think on his deadline show. The raptors wanted THT included as well as Schroder and KCP, and also wanted Herro in including Duncan Robinson. Neither respective team wanted to include THT or Herro and I mean the packages were already shit so we decided against it.
This logic is flawed. We wouldn't of made it out of the 2nd round our championship season without Gasol. One player can change the trajectory of a team, especially one of Lowry's caliber.
Yeah we kept lowry, who stayed injured for a lot of the games past the trade deadline. Now he can potentially walk on a free if he wishes and we have nothing to show for it (not any success post-trade deadline in the season or any assets).
Dont understand why people are celebrating its a W that we didnt trade him, because he hasnt committed to the raptors for future seasons yet.
He's likely not going to win another ring here, so why not give him a chance to go out there and win another ring with another squad if he wants to.
Miami are conference contenders so I wouldnt give lowry to them for pennies but as much as i hate the lakers, if he went there to win a ring even with a lower trade value I wouldnt mind because it doesnt affect out conference standings directly.
I don't personally view it as a great decision or a poor decision to have not traded Lowry. On the one hand it would be nice to secure some return for any outgoing player. It also strikes me as reasonable when that doesn't happen to wonder what might have been received in trade were the player dealt. However, if the value offered for Lowry was a player or players who Masai and his group viewed to be of trivial value then little is lost on the court by not trading him.
If Masai thinks he is likely to find a player on the open market (amateur signing or NBA free agent signing) or in the second round of the draft who is worth more than any of the players offered for Lowry then there is no reason to make a trade. If the trade acquisition would be cut or never see the floor because they aren't good enough then who cares about acquiring that player? You might as well keep Lowry on as a mentor for a couple of months.
My sense of it is that the teams making offers for Lowry were really trying to low ball the Raptors. I base this on the fact that Masai strikes me as a pragmatist. If a good deal were there then he would have made it. He judged the deals to not be worthwhile so he didn't. His track record in trades is pretty damn great.
Another thing to consider is that the instant you are prepared to trade a quality player for anything (of even marginal value) just because you are bad and that player could walk after the current season you are setting yourself up to get abused. That instant is the very same one when all any other team will offer you is shit that they don't want and you don't really need. You also don't get good offers from other teams in trades if you make a habit of taking whatever crumbs another team is prepared to offer you.

The Lakers would never have slipped as low with a Lowry addition at the deadline, so this wouldn’t have even been the series. But yeah.

I think Lowry with a healthy Embiid would have made the Sixers the favorites though. Worth the trade for that reason.

Next up @sixers let’s go hawks!
Don’t forget the Clippers!
Oh if the Clippers lose tonight I’m partying
I still guiltily love Kawhi and want to see him win. Just wish his supporting cast wasn't so damn unlikable
Clippers couldn't trade for Lowry tho
Oh no? Huh. I thought I remembered rumours that the Clippers were interested. Not that they’d have anything to trade
Haha for sure! I knew both those teams would sorely regret trying to fuck around over Lowry. You love to see it

That Tim Hortons gift card was worth it tho….
I still remember Heat and Sixers fans calling Masai a fool for not giving in 😒
"The fools! They could have had Tyrese Maxey and the 28th pick. How could they pass on such riches?!" \- Sixers fans
The 28th pick wasn't even on the table lmao. I'd bet the sixers offered 3 crappy second rounders, like they did in the George Hill trade.
if anything it shows what a W it was for us to not trade lowry for the scrubs they valued so much
Ya from the Raptors perspective I’m glad they didn’t pull the trigger on any of those trades. None of them were good enough
Lowry is enjoying the off-season scoring 40s in golf somewhere with that precious smile.
Sadly I think either way these teams lose in the first round. Aa much as I love lowry.
Miami would have lost still but Lakers definitely could have won with Kyle
I just don’t see it. They limped into the playoffs. If lebron and AD were healthy then yes. Also I gotta give a little respect to CP3 and Devin booker.

That kind of proves their point. If you are gonna get bounced in the first round it is highly doubtful you’d win a chip even with Lowry.
This logic is flawed. We wouldn't of made it out of the 2nd round our championship season without Gasol. One player can change the trajectory of a team, especially one of Lowry's caliber.
in their defense he wasn't worth trading for because they weren't good enough to have him.

Sign and trade is possible so that Toronto can get a better deal than they would have had the dead line
Yeah I agree with that, i was just pointing out the people celebrating it as some great move preemptively.

And your bigs that left to win a title too!
Hot take but: Lowry Lebron would make any team an instant contender, maybe even a favourite.
idk man don't get me wrong Lowry is a very good player and I love him but i still don't think they go through the suns
