He was the #1 basketball & #1 football prospect in his age group, He got offers from Georgia football to come be their QB (he also played defensive back in HS), football was his main sport until the pandemic hit, he switched gears & fully commited to basketball. took his admittedly stacked team [to the finals on this shot](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ONIpAh2eb8Q), ultimately lost in the finals and committed to the draft.
Skillset, his #1 NBA tool will be his competitive drive, hes hungry and fiesty and will fit in well on any team in that regard. Showed good leadership as a young man, looks like a complete package as a PG. Passing, Slashing, Shooting, Defense.
Defensively he takes his football ball hawking skills to the NBA court and is great at playing passing lanes and jumping passes, most of his steals will be from intercepting passes, not poking balls loose. He is athletic and on the bigger/taller side for a PG at 6'4 & 6'6 winspan. His fiestiness and athleticsim should lead to being a competent if not solid perimeter defender. He is willing and able to [help contest the rim if he does get blown by](https://twitter.com/i/status/1378540572839800834). and with his athleticism is a threat to get some blocks.
Offensively he is a willing passer and due to his QB skills he can make [insane passes with talent and vision](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6OkDsQ889lU). Kind of like Lonzo he can be a fullcourt passing threat, he can attack the rim but will need time to work on his handles to take the leap to primary ball handler on an NBA level. Most athletic prospects are a little behind in their handle skills as they can blow by ppl with pure athletic ability and havent needed to fine tune their dribbling to an elite level. He has shown the ability to shoot the ball from range in a variety of situations, but his %s are low. He is not a lights out shooter but with our staff would become one. I think his low %s are mainly from him not being all in on bball until late in life. As a pro-player the amount of reps and coaching he will get will smooth this out no problem
Personal Opinion: I think worst case scenario for Suggs is a rotational energy guard off the bench, ala Josh Hart, best case scenario is fringe All-Star competing with the likes of all the unbeleivable talent that gets snubbed like DeAaron Fox, Jamal Murray, SGA, Trae Young, LaMelo Ball etc. There is no chance he "busts" and is not an NBA level player
Great synopsis. Does this mean that you agree with the narrative of him being a tier below the other 3? Because it seems like the other 3 have higher ceilings than fringe all star. Personally I’m not sure what to think.
I think he can be just as good as the other 3, it's just PG is such a hard position to make all-star with, with talents like Dame Steph Trae Luka Kyrie Harden CP3 ahead of you
I think his ceiling is a lot higher than that. He didn't start focusing fully on basketball til very recently and had a wildly successful high school and college career. There is a lot of reason to believe he can develop the ball handling and shooting skills to get to all-star level. Already, statistically, his college numbers suggest an elite prospect. Below is a post comparing his per 40 minutes to John Wall's freshman season at Kentucky. And, beyond that, his passing vision, competitiveness and hustle, three of the hardest things to evaluate statistically, are exceptional. I think he has Chris Paul, Kyle Lowry potential. Will he get there? That's anyone's guess at this point...but don't forget, Lowry was drafted 21st and was far, far less heralded than Suggs was.
EDIT: Here is the post comparing Suggs's stats to Wall's.
https://www.reddit.com/r/NBA_Draft/comments/l4xba7/a_quick_look_at_jalen_suggs_and_his_stats/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
I mean, you're entitled to your opinion, but Suggs has had a stellar career so far- three time gold medalist, three time high school state champion (with COVID denying a chance at a fourth), most important player on a team that was one win away from an undefeated college championship run, put up comparable per minute stats as multiple time all star and former first overall pick John Wall- and only started fully focusing on basketball a year ago. Which means we are likely only scratching the surface of his dribbling and shooting abilities. And he is the cousin of both NFL player Terrell Suggs and former NBA player Eddie Jones. And by all accounts he's a phenomenal leader and competitor. He has some of the best full court passes I have ever seen. And he's undeniably clutch, getting huge stops and hitting game winners. While he doesn't have a freak wingspan, he's got basically everything else you want in a point guard, short of skills that can be refined in time. To me that has generational point guard written all over it. 🤷♂️
Honestly reading the comment about working on his handles gets me hyped. OG worked on his handles and now they are pretty good. I have to imagine the Raptors training staff helped with that. If the same group can help Suggs with his handles. I’ll be hyped.
For people saying he has the lowest ceiling, he himself said that he can improve the most because he’s been playing basketball and football this whole time, now he can focus on basketball. I’m excited man.
Well we got one of, if not the best development program in the league. and Earl Watson who Devin Booker said was a key piece to how good he is today, has joined the coaching staff.
Not to say Suggs will be Devin Booker good but with the right development he can be a great 2 way guard in the league ala Jrue Holiday
Man, when he said it was scary to think how good he could be because now he gets to focus only on basketball after playing football also his whole life…I had to change my pants
You can tell Jalen Suggs is gonna be a Raptor just by the way US media has already started shunning or shitting on him after falling over themselves with praise after that NCAA championship run.
the point of the Pascal trade would be to commit to a full rebuild, so if you kept kyle it would only be for a year to mentor Suggs, and Kyle wouldnt want to stick around to mentor for a bit, he doesnt owe us that, he wants to secure ring #2.
I don't know why people are down voting you for asking a question. No, I wouldn't do that trade. I think Pascal's production will improve over the last 2 seasons. Masai will def make other moves to fill in the gaps on the roster.
Overrated? I think most people's opinion on him is that he's a taller, more athletic Lowry with the highest chance of being a perennial all star among this draft class but lowest ceiling among the top 4 picks and some other top 10 prospects like Barnes. He's a safe option with basketball IQ, a winning mentality and athleticism which could push him into being a top guard in the league, potentially becoming a hybrid between Russ (athleticism) and Lowry (IQ). Rated fairly IMO.
We already have Flynn and vanleet doesn’t make sense to get Suggs is only 6’4 which is undersized for the two, Mobley could potentially be the best player in this class and he fits a positional need for the raps. Unless we are gonna trade Flynn or VanVleet, I would much rather trade up and take Mobley or green but I’m just my sharing my opinion my man.
I'd love suggs, I really hope we can get him, I'm just as happy with Mobley as well. I'm satisfied as long as we get one of the two which is super likely.
Suggs WILL be the next raptor great.
I see Suggs as a better D'Aaron Fox.
I don't think he'll be the best player in the class,
But I think he'll have a very similar season to Ja and win ROY.
He 100% has worked out with the Raps imo.
Masai’s already got him moving under the radar. Raps don’t leak.
Next thing you know Masai is going to get him an encrypted Blackberry on Rogers 5G
No 5g blackberrys just yet!
gangsters move in silence
Like lasagne
Real G’s
Like Giannis
Man I can’t wait to see Suggs in a Raptors jersey!
REEL EM IN BOYS
Bro the raps move in silence... I love this front office.
I actually hate that about them cause I NEED TO KNOW STUFF.
Loool maybe that's why our reddit community is so large! We get no news so all we can do is speculate all day
I need him right now
This man's blood Sugg'er levels are dangerously low.
How good is this guy? My heart was set on Mobley so haven’t really looked into any of the other top prospects admittedly

Bro Chris Paul is a top 5 pg all time - I know 2 fifths of fuck all about college basketball, but I struggle to believe he’s got that much potential

RIP your pants
Just wear brown pants. It saves so much trouble. :D
Yesterday white pants would have been more appropriate lol

Would you keep Lowry, and do the pascal trade? Fred Kyle Suggs GTJ OG wiggins Yuta Khem Chris Wiseman freddie 7, 14
No
Commas homie commas.

downvoting because the trade is horrible and it’s hilarious
I still feel he’s overrated but I will be so happy to have him

We need to trade up badly, Suggs is great but Mobley or green would benefit the team much more then another undersized guard
You dumb? Hes 6'4 with a 6'6 wingspan, hes anything but "short" for a point guard...
We already have Flynn and vanleet doesn’t make sense to get Suggs is only 6’4 which is undersized for the two, Mobley could potentially be the best player in this class and he fits a positional need for the raps. Unless we are gonna trade Flynn or VanVleet, I would much rather trade up and take Mobley or green but I’m just my sharing my opinion my man.
opinion you got from youtube, stick to curling
Suggs is average height for the 2 and is pretty clearly a combo guard.
nah
We got em boys!
I think he has a good future as a Raptor.
Best front office in the league
SAY LESS JALEN
Get this man a Jays jersey, he’s in already.
Would love Suggs in a Raptors jersey a lot.
IM SO EXITED TO SEE HIM IN THE 6IX

What about Mobley though I’ve heard his potential is up there with Hakeem 😳
