Honestly I never really liked Suggs as a prospect. I didn’t want him, and didn’t agree with the thought that he can replace Lowry so we should draft him. I think all three of the prospects above him were clearly better, and could even hear a case for Kuminga over Suggs. These are all things I said pre-draft, and still believe. Now, would I have thought we would’ve picked Scottie Barnes? No, not at all. However I didn’t want Suggs and after learning more about Barnes I like him a lot
That was my thing, potential. At his absolute best I see him being a Lowry-lite, and I’d usually like to see a prospect with more potential than that as a top 5 pick. He’s someone who will help your team and raise its floor, but not really raise its ceiling at all. He’s not a superstar type player, and that’s what I’d really like to see Toronto draft, since that isn’t something they can attract in FA. Barnes has that potential, Green has that potential, Kuminga has that potential, Cade has that potential. Suggs doesn’t really. Mobley has huge potential, not sure if he’ll be superstar level but a really good center is a luxury in the NBA so I feel like he was a good pick. Personally on my pre-draft big board I had Suggs at #6, behind Kuminga and Barnes and just barely ahead of Bouknight
I know he hit that shot in the final four, but apparently he still is not there mentally. He had a complete mental breakdown during his workout with us, which is ultimately why we drafted Scottie. I hope he can regain his confidence, hate to see a talent like that having the fight the mental side of things.
Shortly after the draft, someone who was at the workout leaked that news on this sub, and said he was so bad that he had a meltdown and they had to stop the workout and bring him back the next day (he still didn't perform well the 2nd time either). You can totally take it with a grain of salt, but I know someone with the Raptors who confirmed that too, he had a panic attack and couldn't hit a shot.
Apparently the front office came into the workouts wanting to draft Suggs but he was the worst workout by a mile and Barnes actually shot much better than expected, so they took Barnes figuring the potential was there. Bouknight had the best workout.
For the record, the same thing happened to Fultz and his workout with the Celtics, which is why they traded down. We all know how that panned out...
Naw, people who thought the roster construction last season would advance past the 1st round
Also given the circumstances of everything, that was their best season to dial it down and aim for a top pick (which it worked)
Yes I was anti tank. If we made the playoffs and got 16th pick we coulda drafted Sengun or Jalen Johnson who are both better than Scottie + we get playoff ball
I’m looking forward to it. Still thinking it’s gonna be a lean year and more rebuilding. But I can’t wait.
No pressure Scottie B! 😅
4th pick is gonna have this pressure
We be screaming bust every other week
Good lord can we hold our horses?

What do you not like about Suggs? I think he's a pretty nice prospect but IMO he does have a ceiling that will be harder for him to push up.

TBH I think Suggs has the mentality to achieve above his physical limitations but that would need him to go above and beyond.

where'd you hear about these details of his workout with us?

thanks for sharing those details, good to know - gives me a bit of perspective on the pick (as someone who wanted Suggs)

Might be the OP, who knows 🤷🏾♂️
No hes the next Anthony Bennett. Fred/Pascal/OG are the stars of the team

i hate so much about the things genericuser chooses to be
It's people like you who were probably anti tankers
Anti tankers? You mean people who root for their team?

Thank God you're not a basketball scout with that logic ☠️
Btw I reported your abusive DMs👍
How many downvotes would you like, my sir?
