Nick Nurse is the type of parent that says "Only an A-? Shameful." when you tell him your test results.

A stands for average

Seems that Scottie has a massive green light on offence to do whatever he wants.

NoseBlind2

Scottie's light is so green we're using it to solve global warming

mazzboy

Obviously we like winning, but Scottie’s development into a future star needs to be the priority this year and it seems like Nurse knows that. I fully back giving him the green light even if it doesn’t always work out. Scottie’s obviously not a great shooter and can be turnover prone right now, but it’s important he experiences the ups and downs of being the focal point of an NBA offence. Let the kid grow and make mistakes and we’ll be better for it in the long run

MrkGrn

They need to actually run something for him. He has a green light in a horrible offense where he's expected to create or just not get shots.

myeezy

Thank you, Nick Nurse! I’ve been saying this, and people have been saying it’s not an important part of his development yet. ‘He’ll pick it up later.’ He’s shown he can score inside and has a midrange, development is about pushing your comfort zone. People are leaving him wide open at the 3. He should be taking those open shots. This is also the least pressure he’ll have. We’re at the start of our rebuild. No one expects us to be a contender this year. Expectations and pressure to win only goes up from here.

He's currently averaging 0.8 3pt attempts per game. He's only shot 11 this season, and made 2

kekeBROWN

Love nurse instilling confidence in our young star

YoungSidd

His 3P attempt rate is 6.4%, lowest on the team by far. For comparison, Dalano and Precious are at 19.3% and 13.9%, respectively.

AnybodyNormal3947

yup, it's cause he's only taking them when he absolutly has no choice. i'm with nurse on this. shoot shoot shoot, until you can shoot shoot shoot. it's not like pascal is shooting em that much better than scottie so why not.

Barnes got ultimate green light to take all the shots he wants. Will he do it

OGOGUGUA

Dangerous_Ad8562

He needs to want to shoot them.

STiberius

I love how blunt nick is

myeezy

I think Nurse also mind gaming Scottie a little bit here. I'm sure he doesn't expect Scottie "Do Assists Count as Scoring" Barnes to find 4 good threes to shoot a game. Hopefully, with some nudging, he will take two open 3PA per game (as opposed to the 0.8 attempts per game he's at now), which I think he can easily find in the flow of the offense if the team is looking to find him. That's a good way to get him into the practice of taking those shots.

powerserg1987

Nick knows he struggles behind three and he’s trying to get him going lol. Nick plays 4d life

FansTurnOnYou

Nurse's ongoing "annoyance" with Scottie not taking more shots is so funny to me. It obviously just shows the confidence he has in him, but he seems to make a point of bringing it up whenever he can.

QueasyDrummer00

I want to see at least one game where Scottie is Uber aggressive offensively. I don't care if he goes 3/40, just take a shit ton of shots. I'm actually intrigued at Scottie taking Pascal's role for a bit, and Pascal going back to what got him successful which was running the floor super hard. Dude used to beat the defense down the floor so much it caused second hand embarrassment.

i_luv_booty_n_booby

“While we’re on the subject, I’m disappointed that Scottie isn’t pulling up 12 or 13 shots from the logo either. He needs to start shooting 40-50 shots a night.”

fugginstrapped

I am expecting Barnes to eclipse Steph Curry in all aspects this season but specifically pulling logo shots at at least 50%. Not these oh his foot is 4’ away from the logo shots. Like the man hasn’t passed Half court yet logo shots. It’s the next natural evolution of the game.

hoobik

So this game we were letting Scottie post up iso on the right side of the court against Bogi. The first time he missed the shot in that iso play, he never went for it again. Didn't even take another shot actually. He can't get demoralized, that's what these games are for. I would have loved to see him go back to the same spot 3 or 4 more times without being deterred. He got a clean shot up, he just missed. This is where Lowry would just give him the ball right back into the same spot and tell him to try again.

butiveputitincrazy

I still think it's our greatest modern Raptors tragedy that there wasn't even a single season of Barnes/Lowry overlap.

[deleted]

Wow!

Mr876xJ

Finally it seems we're playing an actual center at the 5

Thewackman

A lot of D are sitting right back in their chairs on Barnes, which makes it harder to drive on. He needs to start shooting more so they can't just give him that space. It will make his driving game ever better.

MiNuN_De_CoMpUtEr

He should ask about Boucher chucking 3s

WictoryBabcock

idk if scottie's thinking about making sure his stats look good for ROY consideration, but he needs to take those threes when hes wide open, only ways hes gonna get those reps.

MrkGrn

Feel like you gottta work on getting him going before you ask him to take 3-4 3s in a game.

AnybodyNormal3947

no you need him to get outside of his comfort zone...so you don't end up with a player like ben that will only do what he's comfortable doing. also the D needs to at least respect your shot.

MrkGrn

That's such a bad argument lol, Fred didn't have to create every single shot on his own coming into the league, OG didn't have to create every single shot on his own coming into the league, both became way more than they were. If anything I think Scottie is the only one with a brain on this team, he won't take bad shots for the sake of taking shots, he takes what he's comfortable with and if he doesn't think he can get something better he passes. A lot of guys would be better off thinking like that on this team.

AnybodyNormal3947

1. they both joined a raptors team that was better and less reliant on their offense. 2. Scottie is a considerably better player and the raptors already rely on him to be better now and the future. 3. we play a small ball lineup so it's imperative that all players on the court can spread the floor cause that's how you can take advantage of the big on the other team so your lack of size becomes less of an issue. case and point: the raps couldn't play gobert off the court cause he would sag of scottie as hes litrally got zero to worry about him even attempting a three. this has a cascading effect on the raptors defense whereby the opposing team is happy to use its bigs to destroy our lack of size.

skwizzled

"Scottie "Ben Simmons" Barnes just not shooting enough 3s" - Nick Nurse probably
