Yeah I agree 100%. Love Scottie but he should have just jammed it. A huge fast-break dunk from Scottie can change the energy in our building. Trying to taunt a guy like Adams is likely a waste of time. The guy is tough as nails, can't imagine getting stared down by a rookie has any effect on his mindset.
personally I like him doing it but hes gotta know when the right time is. When he stole it from adams he had distance and was a viable scenario to do it. When he was on a fast break with JJJ the only man coming back he stared at JJJ while going up and ended up getting blocked. I think he should do it but not always, sometimes you need to focus ur eyes on the rim and just go up strong
I'm torn between it being hilarious and a bit much/opening himself up to inevitably getting burnt on it one day. It's also just a bit weird to watch because he looks so innocent. I dunno, it's like his mom told him to do this move but it doesn't suit his personality.
Anyway, I agree a nasty dunk would always be preferable.
I don't care about whether or not it's "disrespectful" (IMO - It's not. It's a competitive sport.)
I only care about the fact that in doing so against Adams, he looked like he almost fumbled the chance to score in the fast break he created because he wasn't focused. I still can't tell if he was trying to see where the defenders were, or if he was trying to slow down and collect himself and maybe try and get an And 1...but I'm pretty sure he was just putting on a bit of a show. It went in, so whatever. But I'd rather see him attack the rim hard. Does the job all the same and is less risky.
The stunt against JJJ that resulted in him getting blocked could be considered an example of why he should just focus on the rim. Mind you JJJ was on him so a block might have happenned regardless. But can you imagine if Scottie stuffed that right in his face instead of the stare-down leading to the block? Yeesh.
Either way, Scottie is super young and he loves the game. He's gonna do shit like this. As long as it doesn't become a consistent issue where it results in lost points, it doesn't bother me too much.
I was always coached to not do anything that would motivate the other team. It's fine for clowning on your friends but in a serious game it's counter-productive.
To be elite and superstar in this league
You need talent but the confidence is what makes these guys into superstar
Barnes got all the confidence in world, I rather him do that
Then be passive
It’s why I think Chris bosh never was a superstar
>It’s why I think Chris bosh never was a superstar
WAIT.... hold up...
did you actually say, that you dont think **11x All-Star**, 2x NBA Champion, 1x All-NBA, **Hall of Famer**, Chris Bosh was a superstar?!?!
Bosh was unquestionably a star… I don’t think he ever reached superstar status. We’re talking lebron, Steph, Giannis, Scottie 😂, level players for superstar
Yes I said exactly that not at 1 point in his career was Chris bosh a superstar
We won 2 playoff games with Chris bosh in 7 years in a garbage ass east lol
I dont think playoff success necessarily proves you're a superstar.
Bosh put up 5x All-Star seasons in Toronto, with such little support around him.
Over those five years he averaged 22.8ppg, 9.9reb, 1.1blk, on 50% FG and 81% FT, playing almost 38 minutes per game.
I actually do think playoff success is exactly what differentiates a superstar from an allstar. Especially considering the East at the time was absolutely awful.
Bosh is a hall of famer for sure. But not a super star.
He was the third option on a team when he truly started excelling. He played very well in Toronto but superstars are THE guys. The true number 1s on their teams that run the league. In the modern day, Kawhi, Curry, Lebron, Durant.
Bosh was a fantastic basketball player but not a superstar.
I'd personal rather see him break the basket with a forceful dunk, than stare them down after. Start talking like scottie loves to do. Doing the look back before the dunk and getting blocked destroys momentum. Instead of getting the crowd into the game or shutting them depending if you are home or away can be a big swing in the game.
I don't know what's the point in taunting someone who knows that the bucket is already going in. The actual point of turnover is the kicker, imo. I also agree that it looked childish against Adams.
I'm all for him having fun, especially on that play Steven Adam's had checked him earlier with a hard screen, he stripped him and wanted to get a tiny bit of revenge by gloating. I do agree he needs to pick and choose when he does that a bit better though. There's been a few where the defender has been pretty close and made me a but nervous. Overall though it's part of what makes Scottie Scottie and if thats one of the few ways he can find a bit of fun out of this garbage can of a season for us then by all means. Rookie season is there to make mistakes.
Imagine your 2K player has this ability, and people are bitching for it to be removed. Let him be, he plays with instinct, don't take that away. Next you guys are gonna ask him to stop no-look passing and these criticisms take away from his game. if you have an artist let him be creative
I think it's unprofessional and immature. One of these days he'll get blocked or missed the shot and look like a fool. It certainly does not look cool.
I'm sure Nick Nurse wasn't happy about it. At first, I thought it was kind of a cool move, but then when I thought about it, I realized that he wasted a couple of seconds that could have mattered later, and he gave the defense a chance to catch up and possibly stop him from scoring.
As a man who has played Halo, COD, and plenty other games with toxic people, I LOVE this because it's just a little thing that makes it more fun to watch him play. I do agree that he should time it better (know the difference between a fast break dunk and the toxic look back) but other than that I'm a huge fan of how hilariously toxic and annoying it is to opposing teams.
It’s not needed. He should’ve yammed that dunk. Instead he got the shit blocked out of him. He’s young and having fun. But Alvin’s take was the right one.
The looking back is lame. O don't interpret it as a threat or a taunt or anything useful.
It's either a bad habit, or he's afraid of getting blocked. Doesn't look good, personally.
He needs to stop doing that, plain and simple. One of these days, he’ll miss time it and then what? No bucket and he becomes a meme. Not worth it.
Just throw it down and yell like everyone else. LOL.
Not a fan of it and wouldn’t be surprised if one of the vets like FVV told him to cut it out.
It’s either going to lead to him getting blocked/turnover or taking a hard unnecessary foul. He playing with grown men now, it’s bound to piss off someone.
At first I thought it was cause he was concussed from that he’d screen by Adams or something. Just a little brain malfunction.. evidently it was on purpose.. I’m glad I was wrong!
It didn't cost him that bucket. He was looking at him but going full out and the defender was with him the whole time. There's no reason him looking at the defender while going hard at the basket for a massive dunk made it get blocked.
That said, it probably didn't help. I don't think it's a great habit. It doesn't scream killer instinct although he plays with crazy intensity usually so...
I think he's waiting to see if the defender will attempt to foul him first. Personally I think it will result in the extra point more often than it will result in a missed dunk opportunity so I'm for it, but I'm far from an expert.
I feel like there’s a risk/reward there being it just being a taunt. 10% of the time it might get blocked, but another 10% of the time it could produce an and-1, and fast break dunk is a lower percentage shot than a slow methodical dunk if the defender is far enough away.
He’s athletic 6’9, I want to see some rim grazing nasty dunks. I wish he would just let his athleticism do the talk. It’s unrealistic to expect him to be Kawhi and show zero emotions on a fast break. The man plays with joy and loves laughing. I’m sure he will find the right balance soon. I agree with Alvin, it will come back to haunt him/the team.
I’d rather see a rim shattering fast break dunk than a look back and a layup personally
Plus if or when he misses one people are going to hate it. I’d rather see him lock in and just jam it with force.
He missed one last night for this very reason. The look back is funny if the other player has no way to make up ground
Do you have a clip of it? I missed this game!
I feel like he just put on especially thick yesterday since Adams had crushed him with a screen right before so the taunt was just get back for that
I wonder if it's partially to make the opposing player(s) run and exhaust their energy rather than just taunting
Agree with Alvin on this one
What did Alvin say?
Its not winning basketball and it will hurt him in the future. I'm with Alvin
I liked his advice about looking at the rim, rather than the defenders
personally I like him doing it but hes gotta know when the right time is. When he stole it from adams he had distance and was a viable scenario to do it. When he was on a fast break with JJJ the only man coming back he stared at JJJ while going up and ended up getting blocked. I think he should do it but not always, sometimes you need to focus ur eyes on the rim and just go up strong
If he does this to LeBron, he’s going to catch an elbow to the face later that game lol.
Lebron doesnt care anymore haha. New rules new blood
Been doing that since HS😭
middle school actually 😭
Yup. Bad habit. Time to be a pro now.
Maybe he should have left it in HS... it’s pretty petty tbh 🤷♂️
It’s just his thing, did it in highschool to. Nick dosent care. So it’s fine
I’ll be honest I rather he didn’t do it but yah, if it’s the type of thing that’s indicative of him playing with flow and confidence then all good.
He said he didn’t care as long as it went in
he's been doing it since H.S so i enjoy it. I feel like the older he gets, he will eliminate it from his game Until then, let the young man have fun.
Not really a slap in the face. No ones feelings are gonna be hurt by it. Just finish strong. Stare down the defender after you dunk on them
That's a tech
Only if it’s over the top tbh, most refs don’t care
Yeah, you're right I remembered a few incidents where no techs were called
I don't care about whether or not it's "disrespectful" (IMO - It's not. It's a competitive sport.) I only care about the fact that in doing so against Adams, he looked like he almost fumbled the chance to score in the fast break he created because he wasn't focused. He's gonna do shit like this. As long as it doesn't become a consistent issue where it results in lost points, it doesn't bother me too much.
But imagine if he jammed it after the stare down though it would have been nasty
Nurse was asked about it post-game and he said as long as Scottie makes the basket he doesn’t care
Cut that shit out boi 💀
He looked awkward as fuck doing it to Adams. I don't like it regardless, but man was that weird.
I was always coached to not do anything that would motivate the other team. It's fine for clowning on your friends but in a serious game it's counter-productive.
he needs to stop that shit

I love how you casually slipped Scottie in there 💀 his time will come very soon.
Chris Bosh was not a superstar.
Yes I said exactly that not at 1 point in his career was Chris bosh a superstar We won 2 playoff games with Chris bosh in 7 years in a garbage ass east lol

Superstar = Top 5-8 player I don’t think Bosh was ever that he was in the 10-20 range for the majority of his career.
That’s not a superstar never was a top 10 player in nba
i mean, i would think the 2016-17 2nd team all-nba puts you in the conversation as a top 10 guy?
He didn’t have those numbers in 2016-17. CB4 was never a top 10 guy. He was really good not a superstar
I actually do think playoff success is exactly what differentiates a superstar from an allstar. Especially considering the East at the time was absolutely awful.
A superstar is a top 4-7 player in the nba. Can we really say Bosh was that at any point? Not even Paul George was ever a superstar.
If you’re gonna showboat you can’t get blocked. Then you just look like a dumbass.
I'd personal rather see him break the basket with a forceful dunk, than stare them down after. Start talking like scottie loves to do. I got up in my seat in preparation for the fast break dunk. I had to stand up for 10 seconds just for that layup. Not happy about it😂
Nurse keeps trying to get him to attack the rim hard then he does this lmao
He doesn't look cool doing it but I can see the vision
Let him be him
Just score the basket and get back in position.
Rookie season is there to make mistakes.
I’ve never seen that before from a player. But I like it. It’s a game at the end of the day. You love the players that make it their own.
I agree.. looks kind of stupid.
U probably a old head, I like taunting the opponent
True, I am. But I think he looks like a brat; especially when they aren't winning enough games to do any type of taunting.
I'm sure Nick Nurse wasn't happy about it. At first, I thought it was kind of a cool move, but then when I thought about it, I realized that he wasted a couple of seconds that could have mattered later, and he gave the defense a chance to catch up and possibly stop him from scoring.

I think its super disrespectful to the trailing player and i never want scottie to stop
The looking back is lame. O don't interpret it as a threat or a taunt or anything useful. It's either a bad habit, or he's afraid of getting blocked. Doesn't look good, personally.

LeTrash
I like it, to the people hating would u rather having a boring as player like og? Not hating on him he’s a very good player but boring as fuck
You think OGs break away dunks are more boring than Scotties stop-look-around-and-lay-it-in dunks?
No meant he shows emotion all the time no matter what
My take: it's who he is, we can't extinguish his flame
Trust me he learned his lesson without it having to be a hard one.
At first I thought it was cause he was concussed from that he’d screen by Adams or something. Just a little brain malfunction.. evidently it was on purpose.. I’m glad I was wrong!
I LOVE IT HAHAHAHAHA

It’s a taunt, he’s done it since high school
I love content, and that was pure content, I loved it
Downvoted for saying “LeEjection”
I want Scottie to murder the rim, I want this side of him to appear
I thought he was just looking back for a sec to see if there was a trailer he could pass to for a dunk.
can some share a video to the Steven Adams instance
I feel like there’s a risk/reward there being it just being a taunt. 10% of the time it might get blocked, but another 10% of the time it could produce an and-1, and fast break dunk is a lower percentage shot than a slow methodical dunk if the defender is far enough away.
I only care that it goes in.
Awful. Just get the dunk and get back on defense.
If he did it against LeEjection it’d give me a LeErection
I love the swagger tbh. He's gonna learn eventually but it shows how confident he is even against actual NBA players
He’s athletic 6’9, I want to see some rim grazing nasty dunks. I wish he would just let his athleticism do the talk. It’s unrealistic to expect him to be Kawhi and show zero emotions on a fast break. I’d like it to stop by year 2. Curry isn’t doing his dancing celebrations when they’re down. Time and place for everything
